How to install Final Cut Express on a different mac

Hi everybody,
my dead iMac is under repair. Now, I need to install Final Cut Express on a different machine but I don't understand if this is possible. I mean, at the end of the process the installer will ask me to register the product, but the product is yet registered. And i'm not going to torrent final cut studio... I bought the original sw!
Any suggestion?
Thanks everybody
Luca Lazzari

Thank you, Ian. It's not a laptop, just the mac of a friend of mine, so i'll have to uninstall it AFTER a good restore from Time Machine...
Thanks

  • I installed Final Cut Express in new I-Mac OSX Lion 10.7.2 and it won´t start

    I just installed Final Cut Express 4 on a new IMac with OS X 10.7.1 and can´t get it sto launch.

    It's an accomplishment that you were even able to install it on Lion (normally it won't even install on Lion).
    But as you have already found out, it won't start, and even if it does it is not likely to run properly.  Apple discontinued FCE and do not support it on Lion.  You should get Final Cut Pro X instead.

  • How I Install Final Cut Pro 6 on my Mac Pro with Final Cut Express 3?

    Any recomendations with the data, previous edits etc?

    I think he's asking about problems one might expect when installing both Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express on the same computer. I assume he's also asking if he'll be able to move files from FCE to FCP without problem. And maybe move them back?
    That's my guess.

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

    I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

    Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
    Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
    Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

  • Installing final cut express on a e-machine, osx 10.4

    when installing final cut express on my e-machines, a error comes and reads,
    "unable to start final cut express. You must have at least 1(one) setup file. please re-install final cut express and try again. the frustration I'm having is trying to install this program on 4 e-machines in my classroom.

    e-machines ... tell me about your e-machines ... are you referring to Apple eMacs or eMachines PCs? FCE won't run on a PC
    If you meant your eMacs, when you install FCE it will ask you to select an Easy Setup. In the US you normally select the NTSC-DV Easy Setup. I suspect this is the setup file the error message is referring to.
    What model eMac do you have, how much memory, how much space is avaiable on your HD? What version of FCE are you trying to install?

  • Just installed Final Cut Express 4 but doesn't open

    Hey I'm a dummy but....Just installed Final Cut Express 4 but doesn't open tells me I don't have the AGP graphics card,my ATI Radeon X1600?Do some imac 1.83 Intel Core Duo come with out it?I'm freek'n stuck!!Any help would be Greatly appreciated!!

    Al's suggestion should solve the problem.
    However, if you get fed up with hitting the esc key every time you open FCE you could try this permanent cure .......... it's nowhere near as frightening as it sounds and only takes a minute !
    For a permanent cure edit the info.plist like this:-
    1. Right click on the FCE icon (in Applications NOT the Dock) and select "Show Package Contents".
    2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn't, choose TextEdit manually.
    3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
    4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.

  • Installing Final Cut Express

    Here's the deal, a friend installed Final Cut Express onto my iMac for a short time for me to test the application. I liked it a lot on decided to buy it. Here's the problem, after I deleted the old Final Cut Express (registered under my friends name) from my applications folder and the icon on my dock, and then reinstalled Final Cut with the my new version it doesn't ask me for my new password.
    As it boots up, I see that this latest version is still registered with my friends name. I can play around and make a few movies but every time I close the program or put my computer to sleep, and then try to open Final Cut Express at a later date, it asks me for all my info and password. I enter all the information that came with the application but it says, "Invalid password" not allowing me to use the program.
    Am I uninstalling the old program wrong? Is there a process I have to do to wipe the memory of the old application off my computer before I install the new program? Do you think its a bug?
    Thanks. Newman

    Hello, thanks for your guidance but it didn't work.
    I followed the instructions from the link you provided and reinstalled FCE but it still started up with my friends name as "licensed to", without asking me for the serial number.
    So, I tried again, only this time I deleted all the packages and files from both the HD library and my User library. (I found that there was still FCE files in my "User" library as well) I emptied the trash of all the old files and installed the FCE disk, reinstalled it and started up FCE once again. And again, it was licensed to my friend's version instead of recognizing my new version.
    Im kinda loosing it, because every few days, when FCE is updated I go to launch the application (still licensed under my friends name) but it asks for the serial number and all my info - which is says is invalid.
    Any idea what is happening here? Should I delete all FCE files and then archive and install? AHHHHH!

    OK, supports recommendation works. He told me the App Store version has some issues with writing the pro files out (where the retail version does it correctly).
    He had me uninstall (move) the app to my desktop, download and install the trial with the trial key, then replace the file with my App Store downloaded one.
    It WORKED....for the first time I've got Aperture and Final Cut Express loaded together and working.

  • Problem Installing final Cut Express HD 3.5

    I am presently using Final Cut Express 2.0. Trying to upgrade to Final Cut Express HD 3.5. After the installer asks for the Product Serial#, it stops installing for lack of Hard drive space (never see a Custom install window where I could install Livetype, templates, loops, etc) on a separate disk.
    I cloned my OS on a new drive. Tried to re-install Final Cut Express HD, The Installer never asked for the Product Serial # as before. It only loaded the LiveType, loops, templates, etc. The Final Cut Express HD option was blanked out. It never got loaded. Need Help. What am I doing wrong.? It seems that once you try to load FCE HD once, it won't let you do it again

    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Dual 500MHZ CPU

    Thanks Tom. I did call Apple last night but they kept me waiting for so long that I gave up. I will try to call them again. But, I don't think any of the FCE HD files were loaded since that option was grayed out (could not be selected). The Re-install was on a new Hard drive and I could select only loops, templates, etc. for loading. It's like the old FCE 2 could not be upgraded at all. Could that be a possibility ? I thought one could upgrade from FCE 2 TO FCE HD. Am I wrong?
    by the way, I read your book on FCE and I think it's great.

  • I have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

    i have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

    FCE was discontinued nearly 3 years ago and is no longer supported.
    I don't know whether it's possible to install it on Mavericks and if you do it may not perform properly.
    Final Cut pro X and iMovie are the only Apple apps that are supported.

    Coyboy,
    Welcome to the forum.
    One of the great things about this very active forum is that first time users almost always are asking about well known problems. This is to your great advantage.
    There is a search function located in the upper right portion of the window that works quite well. Had you typed in AGP installation error or something like that you would have hit upon dozens of threads that are all about your issue.
    For example this one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=411833&tstart=0
    Come often, learn to search, read the threads, learn lots.

  • Can I install final cut express 2 on Panther 910.3.4

    Hi there,
    Long time, Can I install final cut express 2 on Panther 910.3.4
    Thanks
    Fabricio

    Hi Fabricio,
    I assume you have 10.3.4 and not 910.3.4 on the machine you want to install it on? If so, here are the system requirements I see for it:
    Final Cut Express 2.0.2
    System Requirements
    * Macintosh computer with a 350MHz PowerPC G4 or G5 processor and AGP graphics card.
    * RT Extreme requires a 500MHz PowerPC G4 (550MHz for PowerBook G4) or G5 processor
    or any dual PowerPC G4 or G5 processors.
    * Mac OS X v10.2.5 or later.
    * QuickTime 6.4 or later.
    * 384MB of RAM (512MB required for RT Extreme).
    * 40MB of available disk space required for installation.
    hope that helps some,
    LS

  • Can I install final cut express on a second computer?

    Can I install final cut express on a second computer?

    The FCE license permits you to install FCE on 1 Mac desktop + 1 Mac laptop provided you own and use both computers.  You are not permitted to install on 2 laptops or 2 desktops.
    From the FCE license:
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you.
    If you are not the owner of the second Mac then an additional license is required for it.
    The fact that there are 2 stickers means nothing.  It's just 2 stickers.  The intent was for you to put them in different places so that you hopefully don't lose both stickers.

    I am trying to install final cut pro 6 onto my mac but a message keeps coming up saying its doesnt support a powerpc, anyone have any tips please?

    If you have an Intel Mac and have recently upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion; here is a post I made in another similar thread:
    I do not have any experience with Final Cut, but if you have existing projects that you MUST access; then you are in need of a solution on your new iMac in Mountain Lion!
    Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
    However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between Final Cut Pro or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Purchase a used Mac that will run Snow Leopard (with the optional Rosetta installed) and continue to run FCE on that Mac (you can actually use Screen Sharing with a "headless" used Snow Leopard Mac Mini and use the screen from your other Mac to view and work FCP in the Mac Mini environment);
    2.  Upgrade to an Intel compatible version of FCP (such as FCP X) and hope it converts your existing projects to its newer format correctly.  There is much debate that the newer version of Final Cut are eliminating many needed features; for example Final Cut Pro X vs. Final Cut Pro 6 -- many users are staying with version 6;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels and then install FCE in the Snow Leopard environment:
                                  [click on image to enlarge]
    Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
    NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
    NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.
