How to install Firefox 5.1 in Ubuntu 11.4

How do I install Firefox 5.1 into Ubuntu 11.4 using a terminal window.

I want to thank you for your time and trouble, however, I had already reviewed the documents you provided links to. I am not versed in Linux and there are details left out. I will return to this when I have more time. I just thought I'd give Ubuntu a try see. I prefer the way Windows installers work - they do the work.
Again thanks.

  • How to install firefox 4Rc in linux (ubu) .I need help

I am using '''ubuntu''' os .
    I already have''' firefox 3.6.'''
I have '''firefox 4RC file''' but I don't know how to install that file
help me to install that .

I suppose that you downloaded the tar.gz file from Mozilla's .com or ftp site. I don't think that it is packaged with an installer. There are several ways to run FF4RC depending on what you want if for. Several of these options can be found in this thread:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=330386
If you want daily builds you should add the repository to synaptic (although I heard that this can be unstable). You can find discussion in Ubuntu Documentation here:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxNewVersion
I don't really want to fool around with daily builds, and am OK running 3.6 as my default browser until FF4 comes out with its final release. For now, I just extracted my tar.gz file with FileRoller and created a launcher for 4RC on my desktop. This launcher is linked with the ''firefox'' file found within the extracted folder. This isn't much of an answer, but I hope that these links help you get this great browser working on your machines.

  • Installing firefox 4 in Linux Ubuntu

    Downloaded Firefox 4 beta3. I'm on Linux (Mint-ubuntu).
I am assuming it detected my OS, because it offered no choices.
    (got a .tar.bz2 file)
I was expecting a self-installing file (like Chrome and Virtualbox provide) where one can just click on the file and it installs (just like in windoze). (you guys really should make it as easy as for chrome - not everyone on Linux is a geek).
I have no idea how to install this. If it's just to extract, I don't know the conventions on where to send it, and have it add the program to the Mint menu.
Could you please provide with detailed instructions or point me to the correct file for download? Thanks very much.

    Hi,
This is really easy using PPA. Just copy 'n' paste these two commands into a console/terminal shell.
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa && sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install firefox-4.0

If the installation progress stalls, try the offline installer instead. Actually, if you don't have a copy of Firefox installed, best to just get the offline installer from the start.

  • How to Install Oracle developer suite in Ubuntu

I'm using Ubuntu hardy 8.04, and I have to use oracle developer suite to create some report. Does anybody know how to install the thing in Ubuntu. The documentation mention that I have to use Red Hat Enterprise, which I don't have.

No Oracle support for Ubuntu is disappointing.
Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) desktop is more robust than Redhat.
I prefer using Ubuntu to Windows and will move everything to Ubuntu when I can get my applications installed/supported. I already have SQLDevelper running under Ubuntu and it works just fine.

  • How to install firefox instead of explorer on a freash win xp install

I am rebuilding my win xp pro pc after a trojan horse killed it (it was ugly!). I want to avoid installing Internet Explorer at all and install Firefox as my only browser. How can I get a complete installation file so I can run it from a disc and get on the web without any other browser installed on my computer. I don't know if this is possible or not, but I hope it is. The only other computer that I have is a MAC portable and I can't get to Windows possibilities on the Firefox site. Any one got any help for me? thanks, Michael

Open this link in your File Explorer: http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.15/win32/en-US/ This is an FTP link and it doesn't require a web browser to work. Once you download the installer ''Firefox_Setup_3.6.15.exe'', you can launch it to install Firefox. See also [[Installing Firefox]] for more details.

From where did you download what you have? What format is it in? If you got it from Mozilla, it will be either in 'tar' or 'pkg' format.
See your system documentation on how to manage these formats.

  • How to install Firefox for Mac on an external USB 3.0 drive and run Firefox portable?

I recently acquired a new MacBook Pro 10.9 Mavericks laptop and, I would like to to install Firefox for Mac on a Mac-compatible external USB 3.0 HD, and import my 16MB of legacy bookmarks from a PC-compatible USB 2.0 HD and, run Firefox as a portable application, as I did for years on my 7-year-old EOS'd Dell Inspiron XP laptop.
    Do-able?
If so, I would like to do the same with Thunderbird...

    Hi,
There are portable versions of Firefox and Thunderbird but Mozilla doesn't offer them directly. You can get them from PA.com. Links are below:
    *[http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable Firefox 28.0]
    *[http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/thunderbird_portable Thunderbird 24.4.0]
All you have to do is open it, and point the installation directory to your USB Stick

  • How to install Firefox 6 for MacOS?

I MUST have my favorite Add-On "1Password", but the latest version of 1Password only supports Firefox 6+. If I could find a Download for Firefox 6, I could install it, but after searching the Firefox web site the only older Firefox version I found was 3.6(?). I'm currently running Firefox 5.0.1 and I'd like to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox 6. I'm on a MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.6.8 (the latest Snow Leopard). Thanks for any help I get.

You're right! I was able to install the latest 1Password extension 3.8.2 in Firefox 7.0.1. Silly me, I thought the 1Password "6+" meant anything from 6.0 to 6.9. And BTW, Firefox never checked for nor gave me an Upgrade option for the 1Password Add-On which further confused me. Now I don't "need" to install Firefox 6. I'm still curious about it, but it's not worth spending time on.
    THANKS!!!
