  • How to install Oracle 9i on redhat 9

    i have installed 4-5 times oracle 9i on linux ...but the thing is ..as soon i restart my pc..the SQLPLUS doest not start from the redhat 9 terminal
    ...So plz tell me the step by step procedure how to install Oracle 9i on linux ...
    .... What & where is .bash_profile file is located ...???
    How to create system shareable memory ...??? without this SQLPLUS is not starting ...
    how to modify the kernel variables ..???
    ..

    What & where is .bash_profile file is located ...???The file exists under oracle home directory.
    # ls -l /home/oracle/.bash_profile
    -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle dba 328 11? 2 15:35 /home/oracle/.bash_profile
    How to create system shareable memory ? without this SQLPLUS is not starting.Append your shareable memory parameters to /etc/sysctl.conf, You might want to change these values if you have more RAM:
    kernel.shmmax = 536870912
    kernel.shmmni = 4096
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    REBOOT the system so the kernel changes can take effect, or if rebooting is not an option, you can change the kernel params at runtime by issuing:
    # echo 536870912 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
    # echo 4096 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmni
    # echo 2097152 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmall
    how to modify the kernel variables ..???method 1:
    To modify kernel parameters a common way is to change /proc file system:
    1. Log in as root user.
    2. Change to the /proc/sys/kernel directory.
    3. echo <desired list of values> > <group of parameters>
    But this update is not permanent and after system reboot, your kernel parameters's
    values will be the same as before.
    method 2:
    setuping permanently kernel parameter values ,is to use '/etc/sysctl.conf' file.
    Every time the system boots, the '/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit' script is executed
    by init process. This shell script contains a call to sysctl command and
    reads the values from /etc/sysctl.conf file as the ones to be set Therefore, any values added to /etc/sysctl.conf will take effect after the system boot or without downtime using "sysctl -p" command

  • How to install iAS 10g on RedHat ES 3?

    Hi all
    I'm quite a newcomer to Linux and Oracle iAS, and I got the task to install the iAS 10g on RedHat ES 3.
    But I don't have a clue how to start and do that. Can you give me some hints?
    I have the RedHat ES 3 CD's and two HP Servers (P4 with 1024mb RAM and a lot of diskspace). So I think I have got everything I need to install the iAS.
    I think the first step is to install Linux on both Servers, right? But what components will I have to install?
    Thanks very much for help.
    Joshua

    Now I found this sentence on http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleAS10gInstallationOnFedora2.php:
    The AS10g installer checks for required packages. It will produce the following list of missing packeges:
    Package gcc-3.2.3-20 is missing
    Package compat-gcc-7.3-2.96.122 is missing
    Package compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.122 is missing
    Package compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.122 is missing
    Package compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.122 is missing
    Package setarch-1.3-1 is missing
    Package sysstat-4.0.7 is missing
    Package gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-34.1 is missing
    Package libstdc++-3.2.3 is missing
    Package compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.122 is missing
    Package compat-glibc-7.x-2.2.4.32.5 is missingYou can either quit and install these packages or continue with the installation as we've installed newer versions of them.
    Should I just continue with the installer?
    I tried "/media/cdrom/runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs" but the terminal tells me
    The user is root. Oracle Universal Installer cannot continue installation if the user is root.I guess I have to create a non-root user, right? Is there a document about that?
    Sorry for these really stupid questions, but I'm just not into linux yet...
    Greetings, Joshua

    Yes 'fight'.
    Take RH9. Upgrade the compiler, the standard libraries, the binutils, etc. Remember that many, many, many of the packages that are installed are dependant on the standard libraries. Either you upgrade in a way that the base packages are protected - making the Oracle install painful but possible - or you upgrade to make the Oracle install easy and possibly break some/many of the other installed packages.
    The solution is to use a certified version, or a clean clone.
    http://www.centos.org provides free clones of RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4 (RHEL), and the RedHat Enterprise is certified. For demonstrations and classes where RHEL is not available, I personally use CentOS 3 for Oracle9i and CentOS 4 for Oracle10g. Both install EXACTLY as Werner describes at http://www.puschitz.com
    Ubunti, while nice, also provides some challenges with Oracle.
    You see, it ALL depends on getting the supporting packages installed. Look at the Oracle Install for Linux documentation to determine the packages that are needed. Then do what it takes to get ALL those packages, at those versions installed. You can go somewhat higher, but not high enough to change the API.
    Remember that the Fedora series is the 'public proving ground for new features in future versions of Red Hat Enterprise' ... a polite way to say 'public beta test'. If you chose Fedora, plan on upgrading often and pllan on having typical beta-test challenges.
    And remember - it's not Oracle's fault if you decide to use a distribution that does not include Oracle's prerequisites.

    How to install d2k release 6i on redhat linux version 7.3?

    have you tried using open motif 2.1.30?
    the open motif version that comes with the redhat 7.3 is 2.2 and is not compatible with 6i. Once I used open motif 2.1.30 it worked fine. The environment variable setting is very similar to any other unix version. Ensure that you are also intalling the latest patch (10) for 6i (fixed lots of problems).

  • How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server

    I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
    How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    or this method:
    Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
    Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:
    After
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-3,SuSE-9,redhat-4,UnitedLinux-1.0,asianux-1,asianux-2,redhat-5
    also, make sure you have these packages installed:
    # rpm -ivh gcc-c++-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm gcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
    libstdc++-devel-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm glibc-devel-2.5-12.i386.rpm

  • Linux, Netscape 7.01 and java plug-in how to install?

    I have J2SE v 1.4.1_01 SDK installed in /usr/java/ directory. Some days ago I installed Netscape 7.0.1 on my RedHat 8.0 Linux. Now if I try to run my simple html page which calls simple java applet, I get message to install proper plug-in. "OK" button directs me to SUN's page where I can download J2SE. But I have one.
    I still don't know how to install plug-in. Trying to create symbolic link:
    ln -s /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji.so
    in /root/.netscape/plugins and /root/.netscape6/plugins does not resolve the problem. As You see I work as root.
    My Mozilla 1.3a browser works fine. It has java plug-in installed.
    I saw Netscape uses /root/.mozilla directory for storing some information rather then /root/.netscape.
    Could You send me any suggestion? Thank You.

    Thank You leukbr.
    Unfortunately, this not resolved the problem.
    More info about configuration and my activity:
    I start Netscape by clicking on Netscape icon on my gnome desktop.
    The icon has its file in /root/.gnome-desktop directory. File name is Netscape 7.01.desktop (like title under the icon). Line to launch executable has following contents:
    Exec=/usr/local/netscape/netscape
    I changed it to:
    Exec=/usr/local/netscape/set_plugin_start_netscape.sh
    and wrote set_plugin_start_netscape.sh file.
    File /usr/local/netscape/set_plugin_start_netscape.sh has the following contents:
    NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610
    set |grep NPX > /root/diag.log
    /usr/local/netscape/netscape
    Second line is used for diagnostic purpose.
    I closed all Netscape windows.
    After launch of the icon /root/diag.log file is created and looks as follows:
    NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_01/jre/plugin/i386/ns610
    If I start my html file (which calls java applet), Netscape still displays message:
    This page contains information of a type (application/x-java-vm) that can
    only be viewed with the appropriatePlug-in.
    Clisk OK to download Plugin.
    Hm...

  • How to check My linux is Redhat linux  or OEL linux

    HI
    How to check My linux is Redhat linux or OEL linux
    THANKS
    SIMHA

    So what about /etc/oracle-release? Is thought this is always installed when installing OEL or OL?Depends on the O/S version. You get better information by:
    $ rpm -qf --qf='%{NAME} %{VENDOR}\n' /etc/*-release
    enterprise-release Oracle America
    oraclelinux-release Oracle America
    enterprise-release Oracle America
    Regarding the kernel revision numbers, that interesting, but if I take Oracle Linux 5.6 for example:
    2.6.32-100.0.19.el5
    I think the revision is 32-100.0.19 - Is this correct?Nope, it's *100.0.19*
    CentOS seems very similar: e.g.
    2.6.18-53.1.21.el5It happens.
    Based on the number of digits I could not tell the difference between OL and CentOS.The best way is to ask RPM as I showed earlier.
