How to install Flash 10.1?

Question

Any idea how to install this for FF without Adobe's accompanying ****ware? I tried a manual install using install_flash_player_ax.exe (whatever the **** "ax" is supposed to mean) with no visible results.

The file "install_flash_player_ax.exe" is the ActiveX version (as noted by the "_ax" at the end of the file name) used by IE; Firefox and most other browsers do not use ActiveX, but instead they use a Plug-in version. See: [[ActiveX]]
