  • Installing Grid Control Agent  and GC repository on UNIX

    Hello,
Could You please explain me If I should install Grid Control Agent as separate OS user (different than existing oracle database), or should I place it in ORACLE_HOME of oracle database . I'm not sure how to separate binaries of Agent and Database server.
Moreover same goes to GC repository, should I install it as separate user or in ORACLE_HOME of existing database.
I'm looking for best practise suggestions.

All Is about the newest versions of the software.

    Hello,
Could You please explain me If I should install Grid
Control Agent as separate OS user (different than
existing oracle database), or should I place it in
ORACLE_HOME of oracle database . These are two completely separate things. You o not need to use a new OS user to use a different ORACLE_HOME.
I'm not sure how to separate binaries of Agent and Database server. If you install the whole grid control setup, you put it into a new ORACLE_HOME and the install will give you separate OMS, Agent and database subdirectories.
Make sure the new ORACLE_HOME is from any existing ORACLE_HOME.
Moreover same goes to GC repository, should I install
it as separate user or in ORACLE_HOME of existing
    database.Why?
I'm looking for best practise suggestions.Given the special DB initialization parameter requirement, and assuming you do not want to put the repository on a RAC database, I think the best practice is to
    1) install Grid Control on it's own machine;
    2) install it using the 'complete OMS and Repository' default install
    3) add OMS on additional machines as needed for the load.
    4) Follow the suggestions in http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/e10953/toc.htm

  • Install grid control agent 10.2.0.5 on VM Server?

    Hi:
I'm using Enterprise Manager Grid Control 10.2.0.5 with the Virtual Server extensions and it is working fine. However, I've noticed that my Virtual Server machine (dom0 -- not the guests) does not show as a host on my Targets tab.
One drawback to this is that I've tried to import the templates that already exist in my Seed Pool into the Software Components tab of my Virtual Servers tab. It has an option to find a Host, but the only hosts lists are those that have Grid Control agents on them.
    Is this expected behavior?
Would it be beneficial to install the Grid Control 10.2.0.5 agent on my VM Server 2.1.5 so that I can load the templates into the Software Components tab?

    pasinc wrote:
Thanks. I do have all of the Templates under Resources in my Virtual Server Pool. However, none of them appear under the Software Components tab. Should they? Not necessarily.
If not, what is the difference between the two? Why don't they appear as Software Components?Software Components = stored in the Grid Control Software Library
Server Pool Resources = stored in the Server Pool's /OVS/seed_pool
So, the Software Components shows you templates that have been stored in Grid Control and these templates can be deployed to any of your server pools (you can have multiple server pools). Once this happens, you'll see the template in both locations. It's a little counter-intuitive, I admit. If you're used to VM Manager, then the Server Pool Resources is the same as what you'd see in VM Manager. Then Grid Control adds the central Software Components option as well.
    Does that make sense?

  • How to install Grid Control 10g Release 3?

    Hello,
I need install Grid Control 10g Release 3 for Linux x86_64 on SUSE 9, and I need some tips about this instalation.
I need registry 3 database, 1 DB is 10g and the others are in 9.2.
    Can I help me?
    Thank's

If you installed the 64-bit SLES-9, you are on the only platform that has a full install of 10gR3 Grid Control available:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/index.html
Everyone else must install 10gR2 fully, then patch up to 10gR3.
    Run runInstaller to start installation
    - When asked for "install type" option, choose "Enterprise Manager using New Database" option
    - Complete installation as per install guide
    - Install the 10gR3 agent install on any additional servers that require monitoring.
Load and execute orarun to enable the correct kernel options if you not done so already. It can be downloaded from www.suse.com/oracle. Comment out any IPv6 entries from /etc/hosts. The O/S should be setup similar to the AS 10.1.2 install doc for SLES9:
    http://ftp.novell.com/partners/oracle/docs/iAS10gR2_sles9_install.pdf

  • Question about Grid Control Agents on a Veritas Cluster (or any cluster)

Hi, I'm seeking advice on how to setup Grid Control agents on a Veritas Cluster.
My cluster is made up of two Sun M4000 servers running Solaris 10 x64 (node1 and node2), and 8 virtual hosts setup to fail between the nodes. Each of these virtual hosts has several mount points from a SAN, and contain Oracle 9 and 10 homes as well as databases. The versions are 9.2.0.8 and 10.2.0.3.
I have a full grid control agent install on each node to mount points that don't fail over to the other nodes. These agents monitor the nodes themselves.
Now for my question, is it better to do full intalls of the grid agent in each virtual host or to use the "emctl deploy agent" from the full installs already on node1 and node2 to the virtual hosts? Or is there some other, better way to do this.
Either method results in 9 grid control agents on a node if all the virtual hosts are on that box. I've experimented with both agent deploys and installs a bit and found that the cpu usage goes though the roof with that many agents on one server. Maybe I don't have them configured correctly, but every now and then they spike cpu usage to 100%, and these servers have 8, dual core processors in them with 32GB of RAM.
    Thanks for any tips!
Currently, my setup looks something like this, if it helps:
    ORANODE1...........................................ORANODE2
    user: oracle..........................................user: oracle
    full agent install....................................full agent install
    VirtualHost1
    user: ora_user1
    Oracle 10G Home
    repository database
    OMS install
    full agent install
    VirtualHost2
    user: ora_user2
    Oracle 9i Home
    production database
    full agent install
    VirtualHost3
    user: ora_user3
    Oracle 9i Home
    production database
    full agent install
    VirtualHost4
    user: ora_user4
    Oracle10g Home
    production database
    full agent install
    VirtualHost5
    user: ora_user5
    Oracle10g Home
    production database
    full agent install
    VirtualHost6
    user ora_user6
    Oracle10G Home
    production database
    full agent install
    VirtualHost7
    user: ora_user7
    Oracle10G Home
    production database
    full agent install
    VirtualHost8
    User: ora_user8
    Oracle10G Home
    production database
    full agent install

Will the agent 10.2.0.3 work with Grid Control 10.2.0.1
    Yes.

  • Security concern about grid control agent

I am planning for grid control rollout. Our system administrator is concerned about
security of grid control agent. For example, I do not know the Oracle password,
I sudo to Oracle after login as myself.
What are the options do I have ? I have told my system admin that
other companies use "oracle" - the database sysdba/software owner as agent owner.
But my system admin think this is a big security risk since he has to tell me the
    oracle password

In more explicit terms, what is the security concern you have?
Specifically, I do not see what you mean by the sentence:
when I install grid control agent as "oracle", I provide "oracle "password in order
to run job on our unix server.By "oracle" are you referring to the Oracle Software owner account, by which the Database and/or EM software was installed?
Please explain how the job is related to installation of management agent. If you are talking about running jobs after installation, when agent is configured and running, where and how exaclty are you required to enter "oracle" password?

  • Reinstall grid control agent, db agent, weblogic agent

    Hi,
I installed oem 11g in testing environment. However, I reinstall the oms due to wrong operation. For agent side, I installed grid control agent, db agent, weblogic agent. Any official document can follow to re-install the agent...or I just re-install it by using "fresh installation". Many thx!
    Gil

if you want just to reinstall the agent you could delete the $AGENT_HOME directory and cleanup the file "inventory.xml" ($ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory/ContentsXML).
But you could use the GUI of the installer as well and delete the agent the "official" way...
If want to reinstall the OMS, GC repository and/or the WLS as well I would suggest that you take a look into the documentation
    under http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11857_01/index.htm

My /tmp has 1.5 GB of free space so that's really not the issue here. I know that the installation goes well if I use the Universal Installer that comes bundled with 10G RDBMS, but on machines with Oracle 8.1.7.4-9.2.0.5 I wouldn't like to update OUI's because of this issue. Anyone having this problem/solution?
    Br,
    Anssi

The issue is not about silent install or temp or root.
I have installed Agent on Linux without issues after I read closely the oracle requirements on linux.
Make sure you read oracle linux requirement, there is a patch you need to download that will create proper setting for oracle on linux.
Try look for Application Server 10g installation guide, this patch is documented for Application Server 10g on linux.
The patch will create oracle.sh file that linux will run each time user oracle is activated.
If you still get problem let me know through forum or direct.
    Thanks

  • Installing Grid Control and its agents in RAC

    Hi
I have a RAC of 2 nodes in 10.2.0.5 . I need to install Grid Control in another server to manage the RAC.
    I have several questions....
The agent and grid control to be install has to be in 10.2.0.5 as well ? or must be higher...
I have to install the agent in all nodes of the RAC ? and after the grid control in another server ?
    Thanks

    WAIT...
I was thinking same that Grid Installer will create the databasse or you can use the one if exists..
but when I was reading a similar thread.. The Grid control installer has inside an Oracle Server ?
someone mentioned that Grid Installer will not create repository database.
It is better if you refer the document before make any further comments.
