How to install leopard from a DMG file instead of DVD

How to install leopard from a DMG file instead of DVD, When i open this file, click restart, NOTHING happened!!!!!!

Use Disk Utility to restore the DMG to a blank partition, then use the Startup Disk preferences pane to reboot from that partition. Why not just install from the DVD, though?

  • How do install Leopard from intel to ppc by Firewire?

    Can anyone tell me how to install Leopard from my intel macbook to my older ppc? When I try to install from firewire it says that the drive is going to GUID and non-bootable. My DVD drive on the PPC isn't good enough for the Leopard DVD. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    I'm not commenting on whether the type of Mac is compatible with the Leopard install.
    I'll offer suggestion for the firewire install. The objective is to take the Leopard DVD and transfer in some way to a firewire drive to be able to boot a PPC Mac and complete a Leopard install to the PPC Mac.
    How? Take a firewire external drive and partition it in two. One for your data and the other (7.2 gigs) max, for the ability to restore the Leopard DVD to that smaller partition. Once restored you'll be able to boot(using system startup control panel) and install Leopard to a PPC Mac.
    The rule to follow is to use APM ie Apple Partition Map to boot PPC Macs. GUID mapping is for intel Macs. You use options within Disk Utility ti select which way to go. You cannot have both on one firewire hard drive. I use two firewire hard drives: one APM and the other GUID.
    How to setup the small partition? Connect firewire drive to your PPC Mac. Open disk utility. Create your two partitions(remember when you do this the drive is formatted and all data is gone, so backup first). Remember to use option and select APM, although on a PPC Mac it should be by default and ditto if on an intel Mac for GUID. Once the partitioning is complete, select Restore and while using the left hand column(just read the instruction in the disk utility window) and assuming you now have the Leopard DVD on the desktop , drag the install OSX section from the left hand column to "source" and then drag the Leopard small partition from the left hand column to "destination." Wait 20 minutes and you are completed. Now you can boot from the firewire drive and install Leopard to a PPC Mac.

  • How to install Leopard from an external DVD reader?

    Hi,
    I've bought Leopard today. unfortunately, it's not yet installed on my PowerBook. As my SuperDrive is dead, I use now an external DVD (Lacie Portable DVD-RW), but it doesn't work. I can read the Leopard install DVD, but when it reboot, it reboot on my current installation.
    I've tried the following during the boot sequence:
    - alt pressed, but I can only see my main HDD
    - c pressed, but I boot on my current installation
    Can you tell me if it is possible to install Leopard from an external DVD, and how can I do that ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Emmanuel Di Pretoro

    Can you tell me if the same problem occur with a FireWire external DVD ?
    It does not occur on your model of Mac.

  • Install Leopard from a .DMG on an external drive?

    Hey guys, last night I got my copy of Leopard, and then the SuperDrive on my 17" 1.33 GHz PowerBook decided to take a dump. It doesn't read anything anymore - not a brand new Leopard disc, a Tiger disc, the System Restore discs, or the Transformers DVD. I used it about two weeks ago to run the Apple Hardware Test from the System Restore discs and it hasn't moved off my desk since, so I have no idea how it died (unless it simply died).
    My brother has a MacBook and I'm planning on getting a triple-interface 1TB drive from LaCie. My question is: can I create a .DMG of the Leopard install disc with my bro's MacBook, move it on to that external drive and install it on my PowerBook from there?

    The guys at MacFixIt have a guide for doing this. It looks like the biggest things are (a) making sure you pick the right partition map for the external (Apple Partition Map for PowerPC, GUID for Intel) to start up from, and making a "CD/DVD Master" image.
    Obviously, installing Leopard isn't going to fix my SuperDrive, but at the moment I only need my SuperDrive to install Leopard (the last time I used it was about two weeks ago to run the Apple Hardware Test and everything checked out, before that I can't remember). I was going to purchase the LaCie Big Disk anyway for Time Machine and storage and to have a bootable Tiger install, so if I can use that to install I can hold off on replacing my SuperDrive. If I can't install it from the external, I can throw my PowerBook into Target Disk Mode and install from my brother's MacBook.

  • Error installing CS4 from downloaded .dmg file

    I work for a company that receives upgrades from Adobe and most recently was given the downloadable CS4 upgrade from our IT department. When I went to open up the DesignPrem_CS4.dmg file it gives an error of "The following disk images failed to mount" reason "not recognized." Have you heard of this happening before?
    We are currently running CS3 on Mac OS 10.5.6 which was installed from a CD. I've done some searching on this error, but the only thing I have found is that the file might be corrupt. We had IT download it again, but had the same issue. I've also tried to run the .dmg file through Disk Utility and tried to repair it without any success. Any thoughts on fixing this? Should we download directly to our Mac desktop? Could a file become corrupted by downloading to the Windows environment and then transferring over a network to the Mac?
    Thanks

    Hi Buko,
    If it is a corrupt file, what steps can we take to insure that it doesn't happen again? Our IT department has downloaded it twice. Could it be the method or program in which they are downloading? What causes corrupt downloads?
    Thanks

  • How to open or install fonts from a .suit file under Lion?

    How to open or install fonts from a .suit file under Lion? Thanks!

    although I believe I *have* used the .suit extension when I was creating suitcase files for TrueType fonts.
    You can get away with that because you haven't really changed anything. It's already a suitcase file, with a Type code of FFIL (the Creator code is mostly irrelevant). Adding .suit still tells the OS it's a suitcase.
    However, if you do something silly like change the Type code to LWFN (the outline portion of a PST1 set), then neither Font Book, or any other font manager knows what to do with it. It's recognizing the LWFN code, but the data structure of course doesn't match. The file is still a Mac legacy TrueType font. Suitcase Fusion 5 tosses this on the screen when I change the Type code to the wrong one:
    Changing the extension to something obviously wrong, like .otf produces the same message. It's trying to parse the data according to what the extension says it is, and nothing lines up.
    Trying to use .ttf or .ttc also doesn't work. A Mac legacy suitcase TrueType font is not built the same as a .ttf or .ttc font. Either is technically correct (it is a TrueType font), but that's the only similarity. What's happening in that case is Mac legacy TT fonts have all of the data in the resource fork. When you add .ttf or .ttc to the name, the OS and any font manager then tries to find the data in the data fork. Nothing there.

  • How do I reinstall an Adobe application from its .dmg file

    I have inadvertantly deleted the icon to open Adobe Dreamweaver, however I do have a .dmg copy of the application. How do I reinstall Dreamweaver from the .dmg file?

    Steph44 wrote:
    I have inadvertantly deleted the icon to open Adobe Dreamweaver
    Where? From the Dock or the Applicaitons folder?
    The Dock icons are "aliases" or "shortcuts" to the original files  or programs, in this case in your Applications folder.
    Just drag the Adobe Dreamweaver icon out of the Applications folder and position it on the Dock in the old location, it will make another "alias" and the original returns to the Application folder.
    If it's gone from your Applicaiotns folder, look in your Trash can and put it back in the Applicaitons folder
    If not there then open the DMG by double clicking on it and double clicking on the installer file to reinstall it.
    You'll have to update the program and likely enter your serial again.

  • How to install Leopard in my iMac if it has no DL-DVD player?

    How to install Leopard in my iMac if it has no DL-DVD player?
    My eMac is:
    eMac G4/1.25 (USB 2.0) with 2GB RAM

    Most PPC Macs cannot boot OSX from USB, they need Firewire... that being said, out of 13 PPC Macs I had one that booted from USB Drives, including Flash Drives, it was my eMac/1.42GHz as a matter of fact, USB drives would show as a boot choice if I held the Option/alt key at bootup, (nowhere else), but It lost that ability when I reset the NVRAM.
    The USB boot workaround that works for some is...
    Connect the drive to your machine, and find out which partition the OS X system is installed on. I usually find this by going to Disk Utility and looking at the info for the partition on the USB disk with OS X. That is, disk2s3 is usually for a USB disk with no OS 9 drivers installed that is the second disk disk. disk3s9 might be a USB disk with OS 9 drivers that is considered the third disk. There are other ways of finding this out, but in my case, my disk is disk2s3 (the 3 on the end will come into play soon).
    Start up the machine in Open Firmware (this is the fun part). Hold Command-Option-F-F right after the machine is turned on.
    Here is the moment of truth. If this step does not work, I have had very limited success getting a machine to boot off USB2. In Open Firmware, type devalias, and you should get a list as output. In this list, look for ud, usually below where you see hd (ud is "USB Disk," I presume). If found, it will usually have beside it /pci@f2000000/usb@1/disk1, or something similar. Again, if you see this, I have not had this fail yet.
    Now type printenv boot-device, which will usually get you output of boot-device hd:,\\:tbxi. (See where this is going yet?)
    Type setenv boot-device ud:3,\\:tbxi where the number after the colon corresponds to that partition number we found in step two. You should get an ok back.
    Type printenv boot-device, and you should see the change displayed already. Something like:
    boot-device        ud:3,\\:tbxi        hd:,\\:tbxi"

    You'd need to clone the Install Disc to a Flash Drive, or make a DMG of it then Restore it to the Flash drive.

  • Installing Leopard from USB flash drive

    Basically i need to install Leopard from a USB flash drive on my Macbook, but i will sum up my issue: (I'm afraid i'm not a computer-"geek", so bear with me when i try to explain the issue :-))
    My macbook hdd recently died on me, so put in a new, clean hdd. I now need to install Leopard on the new hdd from a DMG-file.
    So, i have an 8GB USB flash drive and DMG-file of Leopard.
    I formatted the USB flash drive to NTFS, and copied the 6+GB DMG-file onto the flash drive.
    I tried booting from the flash drive by holding down the option key, but a blank screen shows up with a mouse pointer. There is no Flash drive or install icon to select.
    Can anyone tell me, what i'm doing wrong?

    Hi Dweepe;
    On top of everything else the other posters pointed out, I would suggest that formatting the USB flash drive to NTFS is not doing you any favors either. NTFS is a propriety file system from Microsoft which the Mac can only read with special software install.
    My suggestion is to replace your optical drive. A new one can probably be purchased for much less then the problems you are creating for yourself in your attempts to work around replacing it.

  • How to install leopard again after formating hd and now it just allows me to download yosemite.

    how to install leopard again after formating hd and now it just allows me to download yosemite. When i insert the original cd of leopard it doesnt restart from it!!!
    I made a mistake formating hd without creating a bootable disk... So i started the process to install yosemite, then i formated the hd and forgot that the installer was no more in  applications because no more applications forlder!!! after the format it just allows me to install directly from app store which is taking 18 hours to download.
    I tried to restart with original leopard cd but it didnt recognize it and jump back to yosemite install from app store..
    What should i do?
    Can anyone help me please? thanks

    How did you even manage to start installing Yosemite? What operating system did you have before you upgraded? It wasn't Leopard, since you need Snow Leopard (10.6) to get to the App Store.

  • How to boot leopard from cd?

    Hey guys,
    Maybe a silly question, but I need to know how to boot leopard from its insallation dvd, is that possible?
    I would like to boot my mac from dvd, so that i can then use the disk utility to partition my internal hard drive, and i think this is only possible if you dont boot from the hd it self.
    Obviously I am able to boot from the dvd in the way that it starts the leopard installation, but thats not what i need i guess? at least when the installation start, i dont see an option to start disk utility from there?
    so i need to actually boot the system from the dvd, in order to partition "on the fly" without losing the data on my disk.
    I hope someone knows.
    thanks in advance.
    cheers,

    Hi,
    Boot from the Install disc. Select the Language. Then as soon as the menu bar appears you'll see a Utilities Menu. Select Disk Utility from there.
    cheers

  • How to extract text from a PDF file?

    Hello Suners,
    i need to know how to extract text from a pdf file?
    does anyone know what is the character encoding in pdf file, when i use an input stream to read the file it gives encrypted characters not the original text in the file.
    is there any procedures i should do while reading a pdf file,
    File f=new File("D:/File.pdf");
                   FileReader fr=new FileReader(f);
                   BufferedReader br=new BufferedReader(fr);
                   String s=br.readLine();any help will be deeply appreciated.

    First, you set i once, and then loop without ever changing it. So your loop body will execute either 0 times or infinitely many times, writing the same byte every time. Actually, maybe it'll execute once and then throw an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException. That's basic java looping, and you're going to need a firm grip on that before you try to do anything as advanced as PDF reading. the case.oops you are absolutely right that was a silly mistake to forget that,
    Second, what do the docs for getPageContent say? Do they say that it simply gives you the text on the page as if the thing were a simple text doc? I'd be surprised if that's the case.getPageContent return array of bytes so the question will be:
    how to get text from this array? i was thinking of :
        private void jButton1_actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {

                int i=0;
                while(i>-1){
                    buff.append(data);
    i++;
    String str=buff.toString();
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("D:/test.txt");
    Writer out = new OutputStreamWriter(fos, "UTF8");
    out.write(str);
    out.close();
    read.close();
    } catch (Exception f) {
    f.printStackTrace();

  • How to load data from a  flat file which is there in the application server

    HI All,
              how to load data from a  flat file which is there in the application server..

    Hi,
    Firstly you will need to place the file(s) in the AL11 path. Then in your infopackage in "Extraction" tab you need to select "Application Server" option. Then you need to specify the path as well as the exact file you want to load by using the browsing button.
    If your file name keeps changing on a daily basis i.e. name_ddmmyyyy.csv, then in the Extraction tab you have the option to write an ABAP routine that generates the file name. Here you will need to append sy-datum to "name" and then append ".csv" to generate complete filename.
    Please let me know if this is helpful or if you need any more inputs.
    Thanks & Regards,
