How to install man pages

I recently installed Solaris 8 but did not install the man pages. Is it possible to install them now. If yes, then can I get from the install CD or can I download from sun's website.
thanks for your help
SG

yes, you can install manpages after the installation is done.
in the admintool you can choose software, then add.
now you must specify your media (cd) and choose the software to install.

  • How to install ONLY Pages 09

Since there is no methodology by which Numbers 09 can be disabled without uninstalling the whole thing, what would be the procedure to install ONLY pages 09 out of iWork 09? Or, can I uninstall ONLY Numbers 09?

YES! the question of INOPERATIVE formula elements (there are several) between numbers 08 and 09 has been dragged into the ground. The majority of these concern use of the NEW definition of date and time however there are many that give error messages because the formula does not recognize a blank cell as being Zero.
    *Perfectly RIDICULOUS*
I would be glad to see this thread. I guess that you read it wrongly.
    (1) *_The definition of date_time values didn't change. The application just offer a new type of item : duration._*
Only the internal way to store the date_time values was changed but this change has no impact at the user level.
    (2) The changes about the treatment of blank cell is logical and as I requested it I feel that it's welcome.
If you have formulas broken by this change it's easy to edit them.
Now, if you don't want to run Numbers '09, just use the Finder's Archive menu item.
You will get a file named Numbers.app.zip
    Then, trash Numbers.app
Numbers will no longer run and, if a new update surface, it will be time to unpack the archive to revive the app to make the updater happy.
An alternate scheme is to create a disk image and move Numbers.app in this one.
Same scheme : as long as you don't deliberately open the disk image, the app will not run. If an update surface, drag the app from the disk image to its normal location.

  • Man pages in other languages

    Hi,
Is it possible to install man pages in other languages (i.e. Spanish)? Bash shell seems to be working in Spanish but not man pages. I have checked and it only comes with some languages (Russian, German, etc.) Could it be possible to install them from any source?
    Thanks in advance

Open Dictionary.app in the Applications folder and go to its Preferences.  There you will see what Apple provides and you can check the boxes to activate it.  If you want something more, you will have to find it on the internet and install it.

  • Man pages Help Mr. Wizard!!

I read some discussion from last summer, and I think that I did learn something, perhaps, maybe. . .? manpath is not an environment variable path sort of thing, but an executable designed by those who know better than us ordinary mortals? When I entered the command, I got this lisitng:
    /usr/share/man:/usr/local/share/man. . .
from what I can tell from some books that I have been reading, it looks like the man pages are getting buried one directory, share, deeper than what is normally expected. Is that correct? If so, that might explain why installations such as Lua, Fink, Links or other Unix applications man pages are not showing up when one calls up a page for them.
Am I anywhere in the ball park?
Thank you for your time oh great and wise one.

    Hi danuke,
In some systems man pages are in /usr/man/ and /usr/local/man/. But on MacOSX (and many other systems), pre-installed man pages are in /usr/share/man/, and the default location of man pages for user-installed commands is /usr/local/share/man/. But, some Unix apps will install man pages in /usr/local/man/ by default.
When I entered the command, I got this lisitng:
    /usr/share/man:/usr/local/share/man. . .
What command did you enter? "echo $MANPATH" ?
If your MANPATH environment variable is set to the above value, do you know where MANPATH is set to the value? In your shell startup file?
On MacOSX, MANPATH is not set at all by default. Instead, default location of man pages are listed in /usr/share/misc/man.conf. If you look into this file, then you will find the default locations are /usr/share/man, /usr/local/share/man and /usr/X11R6/man. If MANPATH environment variable is set, however, the locations listed in man.conf will be ignored.
If you have already installed many man pages in /usr/local/man/, then
    (a) add /usr/loal/man in /usr/share/misc/man.conf, and remove the definition of MANPATH in the shell startup file (such as .bash_profile) or wherever it may be set.
    (b) or set MANPATH in your shell startup file
    export MANPATH=/usr/share/man:/usr/local/share/man:/usr/local/man:/usr/X11R6/man
If you are installing a new Unix app from source and want to install its man page into /usr/local/share/man, then
    ./configure --mandir=/usr/local/share/man
will work in most of the cases.

  • Problem reading macports man pages while SSH'd in

For some reason when a user SSH's in to one of our systems, they cannot read macports installed man pages. If I'm logged in on directly on the server - meaning I'm at the console - I can read the ports man pages, but if I SSH in from remote system, I can't.
For example, locally on the server both man port and man doxygen produce man pages. Whille SSH'd in, those commands return: No manual entry for [command issued]
Is this potentially a pathing issue where, for example, local (console) bash pathing gets set, but doesn't get passed when a user comes in via SSH?
Honestly, yesterday we upgraded to 10.7.4. so I can't say for sure whether this is a 'new' problem or a known problem.
Thanks much in advance - this is driving us nuts.

In what way does that other process expect its input?
    My guess was
that it expected a newline (\n) after every input
field. The spawned application is not written by me but it puts the string to enter the username and waits for username, then password and does some validation check and asks again for directpath. Yes the it expects newline after every input.

    Your process has
to write exactly what that other process expects.
Of course you can close the writer when you're done.
    kind regards,
    Jos
ps. what happens if you change that 'flush' to
    'close' in my example?flush hangs.
close works but the spawned app says invalid input.

  • How to install package's man page

    Hi all!
I'm the maintainer of pcsx2-svn in AUR and currently the installation process doesn't install the man page automatically. In the source code I have a "pcsx2.man" file, that I'm gzipping and moving to the correct man folder. See command:
    gzip -9 "${pkgdir}/opt/pcsx2/docs/pcsx2.man"
    mv "${pkgdir}/opt/pcsx2/docs/pcsx2.man.gz" "${pkgdir}/usr/share/man/man1/pcsx2.1.gz"
Is there a more proper way to do this in Archlinux?
    Thanks in advance!
p.s.: `make install` will not install the man page, only the translation files.

Ah, simple as that? I didn't how this works until now... Thanks, falconindy!

  • Core install - no man pages & can not eject cdrom solaris 10

I did a custom core install for solaris 10. I thought I installed all the packages needed, as well as all the dependacies.
    I have no man pages!
I can not eject cdrom, I get an error:
    "No such file or directory"
When I type vold I also get an error:
"fatal: vol-init failed (cant communicate with kernel)
I can not start in services by:
    svcadm enable vold
    How do I fix?

I have fixed the vol_init error
    touch /reconfigure;init 6
What cd is the man pages on for solaris 10
would it just be pkgadd -d /yada/yada...

i just had my old operating system reinstalled after a breakdown, and now i can't save pages documents. i don't know how to install word.

    What was your old system?
    What is your new System?
    What version of Pages?
    How did you install it?
I don't know if you can see what's on my screen, but I definitely can't see what's on yours.
To Install Word, buy it and follow the instructions.

  • Makepkg: How to include source-bundled 'man pages' in the package?

I'm trying to create a PKGBUILD for my own Python program.
The source code has been packaged using Python's distutils.  Now, AFAICT distutils do not help you in any intelligent way to include a man page, so I just used a MANIFEST template to add the file to the source package.
As for the PKGBUILD, I'm currently using an 'install -D -m0644' command (in the 'package' function) to copy the page from a directory under $srcdir to "${pkgdir}/usr/share/man/man1/${pkgname}.1.gz".
However, seeing that makepkg has some built-in functions for compressing man pages, I figured that maybe it could deal with the proper placement too? My manual approach works nicely, but well, I figure the less of a hack job, the better.
Thanks in advance - this is my first program and package build so I wanna get it right :)

Thanks joyfulgirl - I guess I hadn't really thought through what kind of a deal makepkg is.
At any rate, I figured I wouldn't have been the only Pythonista dealing with this issue and starting reading other people's setup scripts and according to Mutagen's setup.py putting desktop software man pages in 'share/man/man1' under the 'installation prefix' (a local variable, usually '/usr' or '/usr/local') can be considered a POSIX universal. Don''t know if this is reliable or just one hack replacing another, but it would mean being able to let Python's setup script take care of pretty much everything.

Yes Pages 5 is very different and has many features and templates missing.
You do not install fonts in Pages, you install them in the System. Purchase/Download them and double click on them to install.
The manual for Pages 5 is online. Click on the link under the Help menu.
