  • How to install Mavericks on MBR partition (or make GUID)

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro running OSX Mountain Lion, and on a separate partition, I have bootcamp running Windows 8. I went to install Mavericks today, and I was greeted with an error message saying that I could not install Mavericks on my Macintosh HD partition (or any other partition) because they are all MBR partition map schemes instead of GUID.
I really don't want to delete either my Macintosh HD or my Windows partition in order to make my hard drive have a GUID scheme, and googling this issue, I've only found out how to do this by backing up my computer and resotring it, which again, I don't really want to do because I always end up losing data that I want to keep.
As a note, I am using rEFInd, and previously rEFIt, in order to boot my Windows partition easier since it makes a pseudo MBR (hybrid MBR/GUID). I think the problem may be that rEFInd made my disk "think" that it is an MBR partition in order to make Windows boot, when in reality, it's GUID. I have no clue how to fix this though. From what I know, I don't believe OSX will even run or install on an MBR partition, so why it says my Macintosh HD is an MBR partition, I have no clue.

Winclone 3 will clone the Windows partition.
I don't know why you think you need rEFInd or rEFId (not being updated), since Windows 7 and 8 are GUID aware and supported with bootcamp.  Just hold the option/alt key down for Startup Manager, no third party EFI firmware program needed.
If you had a triple boot system with Linux or Windows XP, then I could understand why.
My advice is to clone both OS X and BootCamp Win 8 to external drives, uninstall the EFI software or preferably erase the entire drive, reset the NVRAM, reinstall OS X, then reverse clone OS X (while booted from the clone), then setup Bootcamp and then Winclone that back on.
Only by erasing the ENTIRE disk0 can the GUID be reset.

  • How to install Mavericks onto non-internet connected iMacs

I have a small network of imacs that I need to upgrade to Mavericks. I have mavericks installed on the admin computer. How do I get it onto all the other machines, which are not connected to the internet ?

Your best method is to make an installer disk onto an 8 GB USB disk. You need to have the Installer app downloaded from the App Store.
There are lots of web pages devoted to the instructions, but in essence, you need to run the following command:
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
The createinstallmedia command is inside the Mavericks installer app; the untitled volume is the USB disk.
You'll need to download the installer again if you've already run it, as installed Mavericks deletes the installer app. If you keep the app on an external disk, it wont get deleted, and will get updated if you download a newer version at a later date! You will of course have to change the filepaths in the command above if you move it.

  • How to install Mavericks onto a new SSD

    Hi,
I have just purchased a new Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD, I want to replace my existing HDD with the new SSD and install Mavericks straight onto it. I do not need to keep any files from my existing HDD, I just want to clean install Mavericks, how do I go about this?

    Has_Ozi wrote:
Do I need to erase the SSD first?
Yes, you will need to initialize the SSD.
First, back up your system before you install the SSD.
Download and run the OS X Recovery Disk Assistant. You will need a 4GB USB thumb drive. This will ceate the Recovery HD currently on your Mac to the thumb drive. I'll assume you currently have OS X Mavericks installed.
    Install your SSD.
Boot from the USB thumb drive by restarting and holding the Options/Alt key to select the USB drive.
Open Disk Utility and format your SSD as Mac OS Extended-Journaled with the GUID partition table.
Quit Disk Utility and Reinstall OS X (you should see the X logo to the left of this option). Make sure you have an Internet connect as this will download OS X Mavericks before starting the installer.

  • How to install MAVERICKS on Mac Mini 2014

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a Mac Mini (late 2014) and I tried to delete yosemite and do a clean install of Mavericks with a pen drive.
Unfortunately when I try to start my Mac mini from the Pen Drive with mavericks installer it gives me a white page with a ACCESS DENIED symbol in the very center.
Is there a particular way to install mavericks on the newest mac mini, I really need to do that cause I'm working with softwares that works only on mavericks for now.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alessione

Unfortunately, that is only allowed if Mavericks is already installed:
(iii) to install, use and run up to two (2) additional copies or instances of the Apple
Software within virtual operating system environments on each Mac Computer you own
or control that is already running the Apple Software, for purposes of: (a) software

  • How to install Mavericks virtual machine in Parallels Desktop 10

Can somebody point me in the direction on how to create a Mavericks VM in Parallels Desktop 10 running on Yosemite?  I've upgraded to Yosemite with the thought that Bento would work just fine (based on a small amount of research) until I can get fully migrated off it.  Upon firing up Yosemite, Bento is unresponsive.  I know Bento is dead, but I still have data I need to reference for another month or two.  Setting up a VM of a known OS that works seems like it'd be a quick fix...

    Hi Király,
I can't find a copy of the Yosemite SLA on the Apple site using Search functions in the Support section of that site.  I tried all sorts of things including just a general "Software Licensing Agreement".  Got a list of sorts, not including Yosemite.  Do you have a URL?
    It's here: OS X (Yosemite)
The link can be found here: http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/
The SLA that applies in the OP's case, though, is the Mavericks SLA, since that's what he wants to install in a VM.
I don't want to confirm your comment re VMs, though, as an aside, I'd point out that Apple "invited" me to upgrade after I correctly made a Mavericks VM while running Mavericks.  I do want to read what the ruling would be on having Yosemite on an external bootable drive, given my internal drive boots Mavericks.
There are no licensing restrictions against having different versions of OS X on external bootable drives. That's fine. It's running OS X in VMs that is restricted. "The Apple Software" as defined by the Mavericks license, can be run in a VM, as long as the Mac computer that is running it is "already running the Apple software."
If Apple had allowed 10.9 to be run inside a VM with a different OS X version as the host, the license would have said this:
(iii) to install, use and run up to two (2) additional copies or instances of the Apple Software within virtual operating system environments on each Mac Computer you own or control that is already running the Apple Software, for purposes of: (a) software development; (b) testing during software development; (c) using OS X Server; or (d) personal, non-commercial use.
But that's not what it says, of course.

  • I erased my main drive: how to install Mavericks?

I was running Yosemite Beta on my iMac, but it was acting funny. A dialog told me to back it up and erase and reinstall. I copied the internal drive to a FireWire drive as a clone. Then I booted from the firewire drive. Then I did something very stupid. I erased my main drive, my internal Macintosh HD. I thought I would be able to reinstall the Yosemite beta on my main drive after I booted But now I can't boot up all the way from either of my FireWire drives, which have the proper software on them; they were cloned from the original drive, and worked until I erased the main drive. The boot up process stops about a minute into the process. So how do I get a copy of at least Lion or Mountain Lion or Mavericks on to the main drive? I'm stuck. I don't know how to do that.

Oh, they're clones. Made them with SuperDuper. They boot, but they stopped after I erased the Macintosh HD.
I've found a way to make them boot again, however. I tried safe boot, single user, netboot -- no deal. I found a cd copy I made of Lion, way back, and tried to see if it would mount -- of course it didn't -- but I just tried one more time, went to make coffee, and returned to my first computer screen in two days. It's still kind of working. I wonder if the ROM in my 24", 2.66 Ghz, iMac 9,1, just can't accept a bare drive on the internal bus. Or, it seems that there is something wrong with the drive. I get this message in the Crash log every minute or so.
Oct 15 15:11:35 James-Hassingers-iMac-3.local coreduetd[45]: CoreData: error: (11) Fatal error.  The database at /var/db/CoreDuet/coreduetd.db is corrupted.  SQLite error code:11, 'database disk image is malformed'

       NSFilePath = "/var/db/CoreDuet/coreduetd.db";
       NSSQLiteErrorDomain = 11;
Doesn't sound very good. I'm wondering if I've just gotten a lot of bad sectors. But I'd love to just do an iFixit on it, put in a new 1 TB drive -- I'm not bad with these projects -- and then go from there.

  • How to install mavericks from scratch

    Hi
I have just upgraded my imac with an OWC Mercury 120 Gb SSD and increased ram up to 12 Gb.
The upgrade was made by a service where I sent the mac with OSX Maverics and a few apps previously installed. Everything runs fine (no more tha 3 secs to start PS Elements) and I started to reinstall apps from my time machine hd, but later noticed that the Applications folder exists both in the SSD and Macintosh HD wich makes me think that osx resides in Macintosh HD. Now, as my iMac is middle 201, it seems I have to start the install from DVD Snow Leopard and not Maverics directly. Before the upgrade I tried as an exercise to install Maverics from an USB stick as suggested in a forum, but when the progress timer said 1 second left, no further progress and had to reinstall SL, then Lion and later Mavericks, quite a long procedure if there is not a shorter way.
    Thanks

You would have to install Snow Leopard (10.6) first. You can get SL for $20 from the Apple Store here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard..
Then Mavericks (or Yosemite, which is supposed to come out in a few days) would be a free download from the App Store.

  • How to install Mavericks on Macbook Air

    Hi,
I bought a second hand Macbook Air:
Processor  1.8 GHz Intel Core i5,
    Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Now I have problems installing OS X Mavericks on the computer. It just doesn't download.
    What is the problem?

You apparently have filled your boot disk to a point where the remaining space is below Mavericks installation requirements. It is implying that you need to review your login directory for very large files, or folders.
Open a new Finder window. In the left nav, select your short login name. Then change the View to list view. If the Size column arrow is pointing up, click it to down and your folders and files will be listed in descending storage use. The folders with an engraved emblem on them were created by the operating system, so do not remove them. Also, resist removing Apple applications found in /Applications.
Top candidates would be huge iTunes Music or applications content, iPhoto, or video collections. Whatever is taking up your storage will stand out. Generally, you should stay out of your Library folder.

  • How to install Mavericks offline.

    Hi,
I have a very bad and unstable connection, is there any way to download the Mavericks and install it offline?
    Thanks.

To download it you need a Internet connection. Once it is downloaded you can make a USB thumb drive of the install App.  Google Make USB Thumb drive of Mavericks.
But as first stated you still have to download it and to do that you need a good internet connection.

  • How to install Mavericks 10.9.2 drivers for Samsung ML-2525W?

I just downloaded the lastest drivers from Samsung for the ML-2525W B/W laser printer.  They don't work.  And, I can't find my installation CD that came with this printer.
I see lots of other sites in Google with drivers for this printer.  I'm a little skeptical to go to those sites and to download their drivers.
Anyone have success with downloading and installing drivers for this printer.  I want to use it on WiFI as an Internet printer shared by two different MBPs running Mavericks 10.9,2.
    Help please.

    Maybe this will help.

  • How to install Mavericks on a Macmini that shipped with Yosemite.

Just purchased a new Mac mini and I need to load Mavericks on it. This is not for personal use and security software doesn't allow to run Yosemite yet. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

You could try & get a 'new-old-stock' model, at times recently there had been a few
on the Apple Store (US) refurbished and clearance web pages, in online store only.
They come and go. There were none day before yesterday in Mini, in either page.
If there aren't any listed in the Clearance section, where the original kit would still
have the included version of software (10.9.0 w/ Mini 2.3GHz quad-core server)...
You could see if this product, new stock, from another vendor could work. This
is a Server version quad-core from Late 2012, and so did not ship with Yosemite:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/897214-REG/Apple_md389ll_a_Mac_mini_Deskto p_Computer.html
They had the regular Mini for sale (Late 2012) some time ago; these both are the ones you
can add RAM & upgrade to 16GB, unlike the newest Oct 2014 model where you can't.
After Oct 2014, the MINI in the Apple Store online was the newest, with Yosemite...
A few real stores may have had a clearance, on say, black friday sale, etc.
{The Late 2012 MINI originally shipped with Mt Lion 10.8, in Oct 2012; the ones you
may see now were built in 2014, and shipped with Mavericks 10.9.0. There is a slim
    chance these may work with 10.8.5, though they had 10.9 installed. But maybe not.}
I'd considered one there, and looked into RAM upgrade, plus AppleCare at the same time.
At a fair discount, when available. The quad-core server had 4GB RAM, two 1-TB HDDs,
was 2.3GHz per core, and shipped with display adapter, power cord, in little box w/ Mini.
So maybe you could get a different computer, as you have up to 14 days to change your
mind; & if you do, contract Apple directly (main 800#) to get return authorization set so they
know you've considered a return. -- Even if you change your mind, this works to advantage.
In the US, you get 14 days after you get a return authorization if you contact Apple main.
Be sure you clarify details with Apple main/online store, not a local one in this matter.
That may be the only way you could still get a New computer that would run Mavericks.
Not sure if you could count on any official Refurbished model to ship with less than 10.10.
On that matter, you'd have to call Apple Store (800#) and maybe they can't tell you either.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Need to know how to install mavericks

I deleted my mavericks and can't reinstal it (a blinking folder always shows up).

Unfortunately not - your friend's OS is tied to his Apple ID and you need to download it using your own.
Have you tried yet with these key commands: Command + Option + R - it is a different recovery method; you should see a spinning glove for a while and then get connected to Apple's servers. If you're having a problem with WiFi, attach the Mac to the modem or router via cable. Ethernet works fine with recovery.
