How to install MS Windows in a Solaris 10 Zone (Container)?

Hi:
I am a Windows expert because of my work but I am trying to get away from it at home while still being able to run Windows Applications in their native environment. So I read somewhere that is possible to install and run Windows in a Solaris 10 Zone (Container). Since I am not that experienced with Solaris a How-to guide to perform this task is greatly appreciated.
Regards

This is impossible. containers are only paravirtualization which is essentially
a solaris kernel pretending to be two machines.
You need a true virtualisation solution like vmware.
I don't vmware supports using solaris as a server. Only a client.

Assuming your rig can support virtual machines, you can use Hyper-V and run another OS there.
Better practice however is to use a dedicated machine and use remote desktop to the server.

  • Where to download and how to install X Window System for Oracle Linux 5 ?

    Folks,
Hello. I am using Oracle Linux 5 and Oracle Database 11g for PIA.
Before install Oracle DB 11g into Oracle Linux 5, we need to install X Window System according to the document page 2 http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32285.pdf
But I don't know where to download and how to install X Window System for Oracle Linux 5.
Can any folk provide a link to download X Window System and tutorial to install it for Oracle Linux 5 ?

You can address the problem in a number of different ways.
You can install X-windows from the installation DVD or setup access to the Oracle public software repository as described in http://public-yum.oracle.com. In which case, the command to install X-windows is: yum groupinstall "X Window System"
Or, you login remotely and and use SSH with X-forwarding, in which case the software on the server will use the X-Windows server on your client system. This is probably the preferred way since you do not have X-windows installed on the server. For more details about SSH forwarding and howto, please see Install Oracle 11gR2 on Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (64-bit) Howto part 2 Oracle Universal Installer.

  • How to install a network print on solaris 10

How to install a network print on solaris 10?
    Thank You!

    Thank you Zettabyte!!
Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

  • How to install only windows 7 on macbook 4.1?

how to install only windows 7 on macbook4,1?
i have windows 7 dvd, i want to install windows 7 only and does not want to keep  msc os 10.5.8. currently i do not have any cd or DVD which came with my macbook. So i need to know:
    1- how i install windows 7?
    2- 32bit or 64bit windows?
3- after installing how to get drivers of my macbook?

There is no disc of Mountain Lion, and if there were it would not contain drivers, those  are on your original OSX disc (the one that came with the machine) or you can download them using Boot Camp Assistant.
You will need a 64 bit copy of Windows, OEM or retail.

  • Who knows how to install small windows on DVD?

Hi Guys I can't remember long time ago i saw a CD preinstalled windows within ready to launch on empty computer.
that was very helpful to sort out my data when my windows failed to operate and i used it before i install new windows on it.
Does anyone know that prog or help me to remind how to do it please .. I highly appreciate your help
    Solved!

Yes, Neihn is quite right about BartPE being a useful Linux self-contained boot up CD that can help troubleshoot. It is a good tool, but if you're not afraid of a screwdriver a computer user would be well-advised to buy an external drive enclosure matching your type of hard drive for your laptop or PC. When things go bad, even Bart may not boot your PC. So slide that drive out and put it in the case and you have an new big USB drive ready to retrieve your data to another machine. Even better is to buy another barebones hard drive the same as your drive so you can immediately switch out and reinstall Windows in the crippled machine and then bring back the data (hopefully) from the enclosure drive. Just remember that external drives (whether you buy one or make one) will die eventually just like any hard drive...typically 3-5 years, although some last longer and some die very soon. The best backup bet is putting your eggs into many baskets, online storage, relatives computers, external drives, and best of all multiple copies of burned DVDs or CDs you create with your data. Put those in a safe place and you will always have them in your lifetime. DVDs supposedly last 100 years, but I won't be around to see if that is true. *;-0
    Take care,

  • How to install 64bit Windows 7?

Related to my other thread but a separate question (if I could delete the other thread now I would).
    My question is:
How can I install Windows 7 64bit on my new 27"iMac with pre-installed snow leopard 10.6.2?
What I have tried so far:
Tried to install 64bit Windows 7 using bootcamp. After the computer restarted itself a couple of times during the installation I got the black screen of death. I eventually had to force shut down and when restarted it said 'windows was not shut down properly'. I tried to start windows in normal mode but it didn't work (black screen of death again) I then tried to boot in safe mode but that didn't work either, the error message said it couldn't boot in safe mode and needed to restart. Went round the same cycle a couple of times but eventually I just had to hold the option key down to choose to boot from macos.
    Thanks in advance.

Here is the apple thread that i used to get past the "black screen of death".
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2207823&tstart=0
Specificly what mpuck972 says. He gives a link for the how to and he tells you what ati file you will have to delete, as the link gives you the nvidia file, which is wrong for the 27" iMac. As for the mouse and keyboard, when i first did windows 7 i had a wired keyboard and installed bootcamp 3.0, after that the keyboard and magic mouse worked fine in both windows and OSX, Its the same bluetooth chip so you shouldn't have to re-register them in either system. the only thing is you have to click the mouse once to get it to turn on in windows 7. I hop this is helpful.
P.S. in windows 7 after you get it installed there is an updated display driver available through Windows update that will give you the correct resolution, however don't do anything in fullscreen mode in windows 7 as on occasion when yo exit your video or game from full screen the screen becomes "cut" in which the top 1/4 of the screen is at the bottom, but this is fixed by a simple restart.

  • How to install BootCamp5 (Windows) on Mac?

    Hi everyone
I want to install windows on my macbook and I found these instructions from Apple:
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it,  if it is not automatically uncompressed.
              • Double-click the Boot Camp5 folder.
              • Copy the entire contents of the .zip file to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system
              • When running Windows, locate the Boot Camp folder on the USB media you created in Step 3 and double click to open it.
              • Double click on setup to start installing the Boot Camp Support Software.
              • When prompted to allow changes, click on Yes and follow the onscreen instructions.
              • Installation can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. When installation is complete, click Finish in the dialog that appears.
              • A system restart dialog box appears.  Click Yes to complete the installation.
Can someone explain me point number 3 and 4 in a practical way? I have no clue what FAT file system is and how to continue with the installation.
I downloaded the folder Boot Camp5. Now how do I continue? Do I have to copy all files in a normal USB stick?
    Many thanks for your support.

Many thanks for the links. I will read the manually carefully and see if I am able to installt it.
