How to Install Office for Mac ?

I am so new to Mac I don't even know what I'm doing wrong. I bought a new MBA yesterday, AirPort Extreme and a MS Office for Mac on a DVD I guess. I set up the wireless base station from my Dell Windows 98 work station. I can get the internet on the MBA and can also see shareable files on my windows machine. I copied the DVD files and made them shareable. Then I copied them to the MBA. I tried copying it to the desktop, then applications, but could not get it to install. I read that it has an installer so you should just double-click on the box icon but nothing happens, it tells me it can't open the file.
Am I just doing this all kinds of wrong? How can I install Office for Mac on my Air?
BTW I don't have an external optical drive attachment for the MBA.
Thank you so much.

This guide will help you set up DVD sharing on your Windows PC:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1777
Once that's done, pop in the Office installer DVD.
On your MacBook Air, open Finder, then choose Remote Disc from the Finder Sidebar.
Double-click the icon for your PC, and the Office for Mac installer will appear.

You could purchase any commonly available external USB DVD/CD writer, such as the excellent LG brand units sold on Amazon, for about $30 US.  I've used an LG writer for years to save wear and tear on my older Superdrive.

  • How do I stop parallels and windows 7 preventing me from installing office for mac 2011 on my new iMac?

I am trying to install office for mac 2011 on my new imac which I have already installed parallels and windows 7.  On inserting the office dvd the computer defaults to windows.  Parallels support suggested disabling the dvd drive in parallels.  I have tried this but still the computer wants to open the exe file with windows.  Any ideas please?

  • How to uninstall Office for Mac

I installed Office for Mac using the wrong product key and need to uninstall it. How do I do that, and how do I not uninstall specific files that have been created already (e.g., word documents).
    Thanks

If you just want to change the product ID:
Close all Office apps and daemons:
    1. run the Office Removal tool, you will find it here:
    Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office/
    RemoveOffice
    2. When the first screen appear "Welcome to remove office" hold down
the option key and you will be given button "remove license info only"
    3. Click that
    4. next time you run office you will be promted for new licencing info.
If you want to completely remove it, follow Susan's advice. You may need to log in as Administrator for it to complete the uninstall properly. During the install, it will prompt you to save your data (documents, spreadsheets, etc.).

  • Error Msg when installing Office for Mac 2008 on New Mac Book Pro

Why Am I getting the message "Classic environment no longer supported"  when I try to install  Office for Mac 2008 install on a Late 2011 Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
    Here is a screen shot:

And for what it's worth, my choice would be (and is) LibreOffice, which I've used for about a year with nearly complete satisfaction. Last time I tried it three or four years ago, OpenOffice had the ugly, unrefined appearance of a Windows application; it had no Mac interface at all. That might actually be comforting to someone coming to the Mac from Windows, but as a 27-year Mac user, I hated it. I don't know whether OO has gotten a facelift in the intervening years.
The intermediate step between OO and LO was NeoOffice, which I used for several years. It was OpenOffice with a Mac face, and I liked it well enough. LibreOffice is its further evolution, more compatible with the latest MS Office files.

Can i install Office for Mac on my IPad ??

Sorry, no. Different operating systems. You'll need to look in the app store to find an office program.  If you already have a mac, then you may want to look for Pages, or I have a PC and use office and like Documents to go.

    Karam

You will have to reinstall OS X. In the future ignore such things. Don't click on any links or dial any phone numbers. They are all phishing scams.
Deleting Safari was not a solution.

  • Help with installing Office for Mac 2011 when I do not have the disks on another machine

I have a purchased legal version of Office for Mac 2011 on my personal laptop, and I just purchased one for the house (kids).  I do not have the original product key.  How do I get it registered so I can download a version to install on the laptop?
I have also logged in (or created accounts) with my two e-mail addresses, but it says neither is associated with Office.  I am not sure what to do.  Thx!!

    Hi,
This forum is to discuss problems of Office development such as VBA, VSTO, Apps for Office .etc. But I find your question is related to the installing of Office for Mac 2011. So I suggest you posting it in Office

  • HT2476 how to avoid office for mac from opening at startup

In spite of not having the Office for Mac apps selected in Login items they keep opening at startup. How can get that to stop and open only manually?

Right-click (control-click) the Office for Mac apps and select Options. Un-check "Open at Login".
Next time you restart your Mac, also un-check the "Reopen windows when logging back in" check box. Make it look like this:

  • Installing Office for Mac 2008

I have the opportunity through work to purchase a full download of the above for a very cheap price. I currently have Office for Mac 2004 installed.
    Questions :
    1. Should I uninstall my current version or install over the top ?
    2. Does 2008 run natively ( I think that's the expression ) on Intel chips unlike 2004 ?

On both the Office 2004 CD and in the folder it was installed to, you'll find a program named Remove Office. That will delete everything on the hard drive related to Office 2004 and any tryout version it finds.
Make sure to backup your Office data first!. That would be any Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents you've created, and your Entourage data. In your user account, your Entourage data is in a folder named Main Identity. Back that up!
When you install Office 2008, it will create the same folder structure as 2004 for Entourage (except the folder Main Identity goes in will be name with "2008"). You can then put your Main Identity folder in the same spot it was before and Entourage 2008 will pick it right up.
It's good to remove Office 2004 as 2008 uses a new Normal template for Word and new preference files. If the 2004 versions are still present, Office 2008 will run very slow.

  • How to install Firefox for Mac on an external USB 3.0 drive and run Firefox portable?

I recently acquired a new MacBook Pro 10.9 Mavericks laptop and, I would like to to install Firefox for Mac on a Mac-compatible external USB 3.0 HD, and import my 16MB of legacy bookmarks from a PC-compatible USB 2.0 HD and, run Firefox as a portable application, as I did for years on my 7-year-old EOS'd Dell Inspiron XP laptop.
    Do-able?
If so, I would like to do the same with Thunderbird...

    Hi,
There are portable versions of Firefox and Thunderbird but Mozilla doesn't offer them directly. You can get them from PA.com. Links are below:
    *[http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable Firefox 28.0]
    *[http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/thunderbird_portable Thunderbird 24.4.0]
All you have to do is open it, and point the installation directory to your USB Stick
