How to install optional plug-ins

I just read in the March issue of Photoshop User magazine about optional plug-ins you can download from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4048. It includes the Contact Sheet II plug-in among others. The article described how to install this plug-in but there are other things included in the Goodies folder that I'd like to install but not sure how. For example, there are textures but I don't see a textures folder where PS CS4 is installed. The readme file doesn't tell you how to install the features. Any help would be appreciated.

most things like textures, actions, brushes etc. can be loaded via the flyout menu in their respective palettes. the little triangle in the upper right corner? click that, you'll see "load textures" or "load brushes" etc.

To add to Mylenium's reply, here's how to do it on Windows and this is what microsoft website says:
Why do I have to be an administrator to install a program?
Only administrators can make changes that will affect everyone who uses the computer, such as installing software and hardware and changing security settings.
If the program you are trying to install or run says you  must have administrator rights, but you are already an administrator on the computer, right-click the installation icon for the program, and then click Run as administrator. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
If the program installs but does not run, right-click the program icon, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, select the Run this program as an administrator check box, and then try to run the program.

I have downloaded the Optional Plug-ins for Photoshop CS5 but when I double click on the zxp file I get a message:
"There is no application set to open the document “CS5 Optional Automate Plug-ins.zxp”.
I have tried selecting "choose application" in the same message window and navigating to Applications>Utilities>Adobe Installers but the only option there is greyed out.
I am using Mac OS 10.6.8.

An extension package (ZXP/MXP) file is compressed installation file containing the extension(s) to be downloaded and installed by the Adobe Extension Manager. Note ZXP format extension package can only be installed by Adobe Extension Manager CS5 and later.«

  • How to install "goodies" plug-ins?

On the CS4 Extended DVD there is a "Goodies" folder that contains many many many plugs-ins.  How do I go about installing them?  And, why are they not part of the normal install process?
    Thanks, Rob.

    robains wrote:

There are various reasons.  Some of those plug-ins are considered redundant or obsolete, or too uncommonly needed, or downright dangerous (e.g. the Twain plug-in).  Install only those you know for sure you absolutely need.

  • How do I install NIK plug-ins into Lightroom?

I'm trying to install NIK plug ins into Lightroom 5. How do I do that?

I just ran the Nik installer. After the plug-ins were installed they were accessible from the "Edit in" menu in Lightroom.

  • How do I install my plug-ins in Photoshop CS5 64bit

Can't seem to install my plug-ins that I have been using in Photoshop CS3 and CS4.   Mediachance, Nik, onOne,  Alien Skin, Photkit, Fluidmask, Fred Miranda, etc.  They all work in CS3 in Win 7 Pro 64bit, but do not show in CS5.

I tried CS4 and CS5 on my old Hp (32bit).  CS4 was OK, but nothing to write
home about.  CS5 could not support my plug-ins as well as CS4, actions did
not work well in CS5.  I ended up having to keep CS3 extended active.  When
all else fails I use PS 7.  Ended up dumping the entire CS4 Design Suite
Premium.  As it turns out I should have dumped CS5 and Kept CS4 Active.  I
do not like having to use the automate menu to access plug-ins that were in
the Filters Menu or added pull down menu bar (extensis/onOne menu bar).
Also do not like the very small text for the Pull Downs. CS5 apparently does
not support the onOne menu bar.  I dumped CS5(64bit) later today.  Installed
32Bit CS5.  It’s a real shame I can not use the full performance features of
this performance laptop (Quad Core, 2GB discrete graphics, 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz,
SSD/Hybrid drives) with CS5.  Had to process a photo shoot today and ended
up using DXO Optics Pro.  Really very unhappy with CS5.  The few
enhancements vs. the dysfunction of CS5 are not worth the cost.  Sure glad I
did not go for the full Design Premium upgrade this time.  The accumulated
cost/value of all my plug-ins by far exceed the value of the CS5 upgrade.  I
just may go back to my Corel Apps on my MAC.  Can not afford to purchase
(once again) all my Plug-ins.  Nik , Alien Skin, and onOne are grossly
    overpriced.
Sorry to RANT.  Just not happy with CS4 and CS5.  I have been using
Photoshop since the version 4 release.  The best releases were PS7 and CS3

  • I can't install "Contact Sheet II" from the optional plug-ins

I went to this page to download, install and most importantly of all use the "contact sheet" feature (a feature that was - for some mysterious reason - "removed as an update" on CS5!)
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4965
When I tried to install the plug-ins, however, this message came up :
    http://www.solidfiles.com/d/6eb800b218/
This is a perfectly fine example of a feature that was great and was removed during an update. What is really the point of an update that removes features, I don't know... surely it's not the weight of the script! (900ko)

PC users can install CS5 Contact Sheet II plugin into CS6 to get Picture Package back there are 64 bit and 32 bit versions for the PC. Mac users can not install CS5 Contact Sheet II plugin into CS6 for there is only a CS5 32 bit Contact Sheet II plugin for mac and there is only a 64 bit CS6 Photoshop for a mac.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4575734#4575734
Mac users can use my Photo Collage Toolkit to get the function of Picture Package but it will be slower and use more resources. http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/PhotoCollageToolkit.html
Paste Image Roll Script and Picture Package Support

  • Optional plug-ins for CS5

I downloaded the optional plug-ins to get the old-style Web Photo Gallery. I then copied this folder into (Windows XP) Program Files/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Plug-ins as well as /Plug-ins/Automate and also /Presets, and when I open CS5 it is not under File, Automate. Any ideas welcome, please.

By the time, why it's excluded from base package? It is simple and weigh only less then 10 megabytes, is any reason to delete it from main installer?
Only Adobe can answer that for sure, but we users can guess that it's because they've judged that installing the software on every system would increase support cost, and/or perhaps they're trying to phase out support for those plugins, in which case they probably won't even be available for CS6 or some future release.

  • How to launch photoshop plug-ins under Lightroom?

Do Somebody know a way how to launch Adobe Photoshop plug-ins under Lightroom?
Especially the case is interesting when there is only Lightroom and there is not an installed copy of Photoshop.
There are some 3th party favorite Photoshop's plug-ins (some may be commercial)  which I would like to apply on picture into Lightroom. But Photoshop arent more used. And even arent installed. How is possible to use photoshop's plug-ins into Lightroom?

Thank Misterretro! You are bet! This tool is indeed the answer on my needs.
Jim, fortunately, you were wrong. As I can see now there is a way how to launch Photoshop plug-ins under Lightroom, (and also iPhoto, Aperture and etc). At last, the link above promises it, To say it exactly it needs to try.
PS. As I can see, not all Photoshop plug-ins are supported. (But my favorite it should be hosted) This tool "LaunchBox" can integrate into Lightroom only 3th party filter (like AlienSkin, AutoFX, Topaz and etc..) plug-ins but not standard Photoshop filters because obviously what standard Photoshop filters arent plug-ins but these are a part of Photoshop binary code.

    2. Create back-end adapters
    3. Create associations ,
    4. Activate the data objects and the back-end adapters in the DOE ,
    5. Create a distribution model and Assign this distribution model to your test device
The tutorial discribes in the below shown manner .
          1.      Create an SWCV called ServiceOrderManagement.
          2.      In the ServiceOrderManagement SWCV, create the standard data objects: Customersand ServiceOrders.
The Customer data object must have the following attributes:

           3.      Create back-end adapters for the data objects.
           4.      Create associations between the two data objects: the CUSTOMERID attribute of the Customer data object must have as association with the CUSTID attribute of the ServiceOrder data object.
           5.      Activate the data objects and the back-end adapters in the DOE.
           6.      Create a distribution model for the data objects and activate them.

how can I delete plug-ins that I do not use anymore?

Uninstall them by deleting them from the Library:
The plug-ins usually are installed in the Applications Support Folder -> Aperture -> Plug-Ins, either in your your User Library or in the System Library:
    your home folder/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
