How to install oracle 9i on Windows XP

Could someone please tell me how to install orale 9i downloaded from oracle site on windows-xp for home. Could not find setup.exe file in any of the three downloaded files. I am new to oracle. Thanks for any lead or suggestions.

Unzipping gives you three disks worth, inside disk1 there should be a file 'setup.exe'.
If not you could try using a download manager like 'getright' to make sure you've "really" got what was posted (windows isn't so hot at getting it right) - getright is so good I paid for the shareware :-)
Hope that helps
Jason.

    The argument would be who wants to install Oracle database on Windows 7. I think most probably by the developers who wants to "Try" something prior deal with a production database, right?
    For a developer, installing database using the hack is more than NOT having a local database running from the local system. I installed all the products mentioned with windows7bugs post and used the following tools to successfully connect and retrive data from the database instances.
    Toad 9.7.x.x
    SQL Developer
    SQL/Plus
    Developer 6i (Another hack, please check this link http://windows7bugs.wordpress.com/2010/03/01/installing-oracle-developer-forms-reports-6i-on-windows-7-64bit/).
    I think the discussion about whether all the features of client/server are still available with such a hacked installation is meaningless as far the information requested was strictly for Windows 7, not for a Server OS.

    Hi Everyone, this is Abhinay here i am a Graduate Student from Electronics and i am planning to shift to CS background the main thing i want to know from you guys is " A structured procedure of Installing Oracle 10g on Windows Vista"- So can any one of you guys help me out??????????

    Hi, how are you doing ?
    Just one advice about it. If you want to work with Oracle databases, it will be better to install it on certified OS's. Doing so, you will get better experience and more realistic experience on it.
    Following the Oracle database documentation, you will get all that you need to successfully install the database in the certified OS.

  • How to Install oracle 8i on Windows Vista Ultimate

    Hii,
    I want to install oracle 8i in my laptop. I am using Vista Ultimate OS.
    I am getting a java runtime error.
    why is it happening ?

    Install Personal Edition or Express Edition.
    You can still install EE or SE, however, you need toLOL.
    Given that Personal Edition IS A SUPERSET OF Enterprise Edition, what is that going to buy the OP?
    Reference: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/editions.htm#CJADFHGH from which we read "
    Oracle Database Personal Edition Oracle Database Personal Edition supports single-user development and deployment environments that require full compatibility with Oracle Database Standard Edition One, Oracle Database Standard Edition, and Oracle Database Enterprise Edition.
    Personal Edition includes all of the components that are included with Enterprise Edition, as well as all of the options that are available with Enterprise Edition, with the exception of the Oracle Real Application Clusters option, which cannot be used with Personal Edition. Personal Edition is available on Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 (32-bit and 64-bit versions). The Management Packs are not included in Personal Edition."
    <sheesh>
    This myth has been around for years. And this one doesn't even need an install to verify or debunk - just simple reading. You'd think it would be gone by now.

    please if any one can give me any solution to run my database console. i don't know any method. i'm new to the oracle.
    Thank you

    I have checked that. but i also say that oracle 10g (10.2.0.4 ) support for windows server 2008 r2 X64.
    Windows Server 2008 x64
    Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4 or later) for Windows x64 is certified on Windows Server 2008 x64 (all editions). 32-bit Oracle Database Client (10.2.0.4) and higher versions are supported on Windows Server 2008 x64.
    I don'y think it's problem of os version or oracle version. Because when we purchase we asked from them what is the recommended version for our os. they told that 10g 10.2.0.4 is ok. previously i have installed this successfully. But now i can't.
    however thanks for tried to help me. if u can find out any other reason\s please late me know..
    thank you very much.

    regardsHi,
    You might find some interesting things in this thread
    Oracle 9i Release 2 Windows OS support
    But the bottom line is that 9i is desupported, and Windows 2008 is not certified for 9i.

  • How to install Oracle Instantclient on Windows Server 2008 Web Edition

    I am trying to install the Oracle Instantclient on our Windows Web server (x64).
    * I downloaded instantclient-basic-win-x86-64-11.1.0.7.0
    * Extracted to c:\instantclient
    * appended the directory to the path
    * created system variable 'SQL_PATH' with same path
    * gave everyone all rights to the instantclient folder
    * gave network service explicitly all rights to the instantclient folder
    * rebooted IIS
    * rebooted the server
    But still my application keeps returning with System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.
    What am i missing/doing wrong? It seems i have mixed and merged all possible solutions which Google would return.

    Since System.Data.OracleClient is a Microsoft library, you'd better ask them.
    Or use Oracle's provider:

  • How to install Oracle 9i on WIndows XP 64-bit?

    I downloaded Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal/Client Edition
    for Windows XP 2003/Windows Server 2003 (64-bit) from the web site.
    I run Windows XP Professional x64 version 2003 Service pack 1.
    When I am trying to run setup I am getting message "The image file is valid but not for your type of machine".
    Please help!

    64 bit Oracle (9.2.0 and 10.1.0) on Windows is for Itanium only. AMD64 and EM64T are not supported for 64 bit Oracle on these releases.
    With 10g release 2 (not yet available last time I checked) there will be support for 64 bit Oracle on AMD64 and EM64T. Until then the only Oracle supported for your platform is the 32 bit version.

  • How to install Oracle 10g on windows

    I'm an oracle Student, I've just started.
    I bought the 10g book and a cd was included, I tried installing it at home for educational purpose, and I'm having trouble installing it, specially to log on the SQL DB, any help from you?

    You said you have bought a book with a CD in it, is it a 10g Database Disk? Or is it the developer disk?
    You require a database that's right. In case your CD is not a database CD, I suggest you do download and install the Oracle 10gXE from otn.oracle.com, you can find it here > http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/index.html
    Installing it is very easy (practically next next) you have to define your administrator's password (SYS password) and keep it in mind.
    Once installed, you can access to it using the http://localhost:8080/apex url.

  • Needed steps for installing oracle 10R2 on windows server 2003

    Hi to All,
    Can anybody give me steps for how to install oracle 10R2 on windows 2003 server in production environment and what is the preinstallation task and postinstallation task.
    Thanks and Regards
    Mohd Khaja

    There is one pre-requisite that is missing from the documentation - ensuring that the administration team is adequately trained.
    Since you are asking this question, I wonder whether your team is properly prepared for, and aware of, the possible nuances or changes from default that might be relevant to your environment.
    For example, is your team familiar with the concept of Flashback Recovery Area and how it may fit, or conflict with, your production needs? Use of RMAN? Location of Oracle software Inventory and implications in your OS-level backup? How to configure both the software and the database to meet your Service Level Agreement requirements.
    The referenced document is an excellent first step, as it asks some of the questions. If you are serious about production stability, you want to go through that as well as get appropriate level of expertise in your shop.

  • Installing Oracle 9i on Windows 7

    Hi Experts,
    Can Oracle 9i Server or Client be installed in Windows 7 Enterprise - 64 bit version ?
    If so, Can anyone help me how to install oracle 9i in windows 7 ?
    Any suggestions would be helpful....
    Regards,
    Anup

    Why do you ask?
    Obviously, 9i is not supported on Windows 7. You may be able to get the install to mostly work. But you will undoubtedly find that some functionality doesn't work as expected. You might be lucky and find that none of the functionality you care about is broken. But that would require a lot of testing and validation.
    If you're going to use a new version of Windows, why wouldn't you use a new version of Oracle? If you're going to use an old and unsupported version of Oracle, why wouldn't you use a similarly old (and likely unsupported) version of Windows?
