How to install parts of TM backup OSX 10.8?

Hi!
Becaus of Seagate HD crash (late 2009 edition iMac27) I had to do a fresh OS install.
Mountain Lion is noe installed.
Now I want to install old settings and documents, and some of the old programs from a Time Machine backup.
It is located on a Time Capsule.
How do I pick elementys and copy them over to my new install?
Is it possible to connect via ethercon, and will it go faster?
Thanks!
Best regards?
KIS

Use Migration Assistant to transfer the files > http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html It will create a new user with the transferred files.
Ethernet will make the transfer a bit faster, but it will still be slow.
If you are using OS X Mountain Lion and the backup you made was created with OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend you to erase the hard drive and restore the whole backup, being a more reliable and cleaner way of transferring your data. The only thing you have to do is to start up your iMac holding Command and R keys while your Mac is starting. Then, choose the option to restore a Time Machine backup and follow the steps

According to Mactracker, given the size of the screen and the CPU speed your MBP could be one of these models:
    - MacBookPro5,1, which originally shipped with OS X 10.5.5
    - MacBookPro5,3, which originally shipped with OS X 10.5.7
Since they originally shipped with OS X 10.5, the system disc that came with your MBP may have 10.5 on it. If so, you should be able to do a reinstall from the original disc. If you do a full backup to another volume before you do that, you can recover your data from the backup to your MBP. However, some migrating some of the data (such as Mail messages) may be tricky due to format changes.

  • How to install OS X from backup disk image?

I created a disk image of my OS X Leopard disk as a backup, but later discovered that I could not boot from the mounted disk image, nor could I use it to burn a new bootable OS X disk. What did I do wrong?

    Welcome To  Discussions alansky1!
Did you use the procedure posted below to create the Disk Image of the Leopard 10.5.x install disc?
Insert the DVD that you wish to copy.
Open Disk Utility, from the Utilities folder.
From the list on the left side of the window select the original DVD that you wish to copy.
From the DU contextual File menu select New: Disk Image from Disk....
Name the disk image and choose Image Format: DVD/CD Master.
    Save to the Desktop.
When the Disk Image is finished, you can eject the original DVD.
Back in Disk Utility, from the list on the left side of the window select the new Disk Image. This may be a .cdr or a .dmg.
From the Images contextual menu, select Burn.
Insert a new blank DVD and click Burn.

  • How to install Photoshop CS2 on (Mac OSX) Yosemite 10.10.2

is it possible? please help me

CS2 will not install or run on modern Macs with Intel chips running OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).
CS2 is an old PowerPC application written for older Macs with PowerPC chips (incompatible with Intel chips) running OS X up to 10.3.8.
Modern Macs (all have Intel processors) running OS X with Rosetta (which enables Intel chips to run PowerPC software) will run CS2 but Rosetta was discontinued by Apple in OS X 10.7.

  • How to install Classic on 800MHz SD eMac w/10.4 w/o wiping entire drive??

I've been trying to help out a friend who bought an 800MHz eMac (SuperDrive) used on Craigslist. Machine is in great condition and came with Tiger installed and working fine. She has since installed many of her own OS X apps, but finds she needs to run a few legacy apps and needs Classic installed.
She has a 4-CD set of eMac Software Restore discs, which contain OS 10.1.4 plus OS 9.2.2. These are not standalone installers, however. After mounting Disc 1, she is able to reboot from that CD (into an OS 9 interface), but is only presented with a single option, and that is to erase the hard disk and do a complete restore of the original OSes and apps that shipped with the computer. Since she has spent weeks installing apps and configuring the computer just as she wants it, she does not want to have to wipe the entire drive just to be able to add Classic at this point.
I can think of two alternatives, neither of which will work for her because she does not have access to an external firewire drive, either with or without a bootable system on it. My two methods would be to either:
    A. Boot from an external FW drive in target disk mode and then use a standalone OS 9 installer (which she does have) to get Classic on the eMac;
    B. Clone the entire hard drive to an external drive and then run the 4 eMac Software Restore discs, update to the latest version of Tiger, and then add back all her additional installed apps and utilities, etc.
    1) Am I correct in assuming that method A would, in fact, work?
More importantly, though, can anyone suggest a simpler way to install OS 9 on this machine which would not involve using an external drive? It's so frustrating that the Software Restore disc is bootable (whereas the standalone OS 9 installer disc is not!)...yet there is no apparent way to access just the OS 9 installer on these Restore discs and to run just that installer and not have to reformat the entire drive.
    2) Any bright ideas on a relatively simple workaround would be greatly appreciated!
Additionally, it is unknown whether or not OS 9 drivers have been installed on this eMac. I assume, though, that if they had not been installed, then an OS 9 installation would balk and not go through. It would be worth taking that chance, though, as the worst that could happen is that OS 9 would not install. Then there would be no other option but to do a full erase and install from the Restore Discs.
    3) Is there any way of ascertaining in advance whether or not OS 9 drivers have been installed?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    PowerMac G4/867   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Your initial post notes that OS X 10.4 is installed but 10.1.4 is on the actual restore discs that you have. My recollection is that Apple switched from 10.1.4 to 10.2 late in the production run of the 700 MHz model eMac (specificaly, they upgraded two weeks after I bought my 700 MHz eMac), so a 800 MHz model should have shipped with OS X 10.2, not 10.1.4. There are significant differences in the Restore disc sets between the different OS X versions. In any case it's clear that the discs you have do not include a retail Tiger install disc. You'll eventually want to pick up the retail black-lable Tiger 10.4 Install DVD in case it's ever necessary to reinstall the OS (if the eMac is one that doesn't have a DVD-ROM or DVD-RW drive, the Tiger DVD can still be exchanged for a set of CDs for a nominal fee).
From your later posts, it appears that you do have a separate OS 9 install CD but that the emac won't boot from that OS 9 disc. It rather sounds as if the disc set you have is actually from an earlier 700 MHz eMac model. Open System Profiler and check the video hardware; if it shows ATI graphics rather than nVidia graphics, you definitely have the wrong set of discs. While there's no online link for this, you can call the Apple Store and ask about purchasing a replacement set of discs for the Mac model you actually have (have the info from eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model handy if you call).
The OS 9 installation method you need depends on the set of restore disks and the original OS X version that was provided with those discs. Since you have 10.4 installed on a 800 MHz eMac, you'd nominally start with Mac OS X 10.4: Restoring applications from a Mac OS X 10.2 Software Restore disc rather than the older Using Restore Discs with Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.3. Unfortunately, reinstalling Classic following that guide does invovlve erasing the HD, which you want to avoid.
Given the discs you do have is for 10.1.4, you can check the later part of Using Apple Software Restore to install or reinstall parts without erasing (Mac OS X 10.1.5 or earlier) for the steps on how to install parts without erasing. However, if I'm picturing the correct set of Restore discs that you have in hand (there have been enogh different sets of resstore and install discs to make that a royally confusing morass), OS 9 is not on the Restore disc set in versions prior to OS X 10.2; rather, there should be a separate OS 9 Install CD in the set of discs that came with OS X 10.1.4 Macs.
Under the circumstances, unless you acquire the correct Restore discs for that model eMac, your best chance of getting Classic installed would on first thought be to take up Chopsuey's suggestion about dragging the OS 9 System Folder from the OS 9 Install CD onto the eMac's HD, then try to use that to get a hobbled form of Classic open well enough to use Tome Viewer to extract the full OS 9 System onto the HD. Although the OS 9 CD you have from a OS X 10.1.4 disc set would be for an nVidia graphics eMac and your appears to be an ATI model, the actual graphics hardware is driven by OS X, so having the wrong graphics drivers in OS 9 may or may not actually limit Classsic to running in a 640x480 pixel window.
I'm pretty sure you'd find it easier to call the Apple Store for the correct set of Restore discs for that model.
Installing the OS 9 drivers on the hard drive is required to boot the nVidia graphic model eMacs into OS 9 from the HD but is not required to use the OS 9 System Folder to run Classic. Later ATI graphics eMacs won't boot into OS 9 regardless of whether or not the drivers are installed on the hard drive. Either way, if you only want to run Classic, you don't need to reformat the drive to install the OS 9 drivers (nor search for the Terminal hack to put OS 9 drivers onto an already-formatted HD).

Mac OSX 10.6.8 running Photoshop CS5. My hard drive went belly up. Installed a new one and then tried to install Photoshop from my backup. I get an error message 6 telling me to uninstall Photoshop and then reinstall from the original software. But I bought from Adobe online. How do I go about this?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • How do I install Mavericks without invoking the OSX Server Plugin?

How do I perfrom a clean install of Mavericks from the Recovery Partition without it automatically installing, and then invoking or executing the OSX Server Plugin that ultimately results in rendering open directory operable as well as the server.  I have ignored this continously, but the other day I went into the terminal and typed ARP -s that lists the shortname for the host of my MacBook Pro and it gave a totally different name than what I had given it in the wi-fi network interface under the WINS tab. More importantly, I do not want to install open directory nor the osx server plugin as it opens up more complexity than I want to deal with.  Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.  BTW, below are the steps I performed for installing Mavericks.
    1. Powered on the MacBook Pro and then hit the Option key.
    2. This took me into the Recovery Partition, whereby I went into the Disk Util and erased or formatted the hard-drive.
    3. I then clicked out of the Disk Utility and went into the Recovery Mode by clicking on reinstall the current OS.
    4. I went through all the prompts and the system downloaded a current version of Mavericks.
    5. After completion, I turned on my Macbook Pro and went through the prompts to install Mavericks.
    6. This is all I did, and I didn't download the OSX plugin nor invoke it in the new version of the Operating System.
I just assumed that it was a standalone version until I found the server for osx running with open directory invoked, the server invoked, along
with other components relative to a new standalone version.
Again, my question is simple: How can I reinstall Mavericks without it downloading and automatically
iinvoking the components as described above?

Hi. Because both Mavericks and Windows 8 are still new, they may not be free of error. Apple needs more time to perform more tests to ensure that these two different OS's will work properly without getting in conflicts. If it's posdible, I highly recommand you to downgrade back to Lion or Mountain Lion and install Windows 7 (if you have a copy of it). In my experience, all advises from Genius Bar members and computer articles confirm that  Windows 7 will work on Macs with Lion OS. It should also work on Mountain Lion. Besides Boot Camp, you could try to virtualize Windows OS and its applications by using VirtualBox, CrossOver and other VMs. I already have an Oracle VirtualBox but I would like to try Boot Camp since it allows me to enjoy almost all Windows features that may be limited in VMs.

  • Full backup ( ~ 1 TB ) using external HD - speed USB vs. Firewire vs. eSATA  - what are relative speeds - how to install eSATA on mid-2010 Mac Pro desktop ( dual hex-core processors)_

        Hi All,
I'm trying to resume regular scheduled Full backup ( ~ 1 TB ) of drives using external HD (to allow off-site redundant backup storage) .
What are relative speeds of USB vs. Firewire vs. eSATA ?
I suspect eSATA connection may be considerably faster … how to install eSATA on mid-2010 Mac Pro desktop ( dual hex-core processors)?
( The quicker and easier backup protocol is, the more likely one is to use it to backup on a routine repetitive basis.)
    Thanks

Adding a USB 3.0+eSATA PCIe card, which The hatter mentions, is the best solution that I've found. See http://eshop.macsales.com/item/CalDigit/FASTA6GU3/. The card is not cheap, but the USB 3.0 works flawlessly (which can't be assumed; ask me how I know) and the eSATA connection allows booting from the connected drive. Grant Bennet-Alder's point about HD speed is important to consider; in addition, the size of the individual files being backed up and where on the backup disk they're going will affect overall transfer speed. For example, using the USB 3.0 connection on that CalDigit card going to a Toshiba 3TB external, the transfer rate for a big file (say a virtual machine file) from an internal SSD boot drive was about 145 MB/sec while a bunch of little files might drop to 30 MB/sec and both rates decrease as an inner partition on the external is used. All told, a nearly 700 GB backup took under 1.5 hours. Using a HD as the source added almost an extra hour, though a WD external was used for that. Using a WD green drive plugged into this http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/FWU3ES2HDK/ with an eSATA connection took about 2.5 hours also, but that was bootable whereas the USB 3.0 connection is not.
Another point to consider is that USB 3.0 is ubiquitous on PC's now so there's lots of price competition for externals; not so much for eSATA externals.

  • How to install and configure oracle secure backup(osb-10.4.0.3.0_linux.x64) in linux

    Hello,
We are planning to install and configure Oracle Secure Backup Version 10.4 in Linux server. I had searched documents and i have not find any relevant steps to install and configure in OEL 6.2.
Can anyone please suggest me how to install and configure OSB.
    Regards,
    Anil

    Hi
Installing OSB on Oracle Linux is just the same as installing on any other supported linux and is described in Installation and Configuration guide. Just stick with the directories and procedure described in install guide and you should be fine.
For media server choose a physical host due to performance considerations. I think it is mentioned in docs somewhere.

  • How to install all the drivers for the MacBook with Windows 7 or 8 without the disk from OSX Lion? Where can I find the drivers?
