How to install Reader without AIR

I have to deploy Adobe Reader 9.1.2 to hundreds of PCs through scripts.
I first run "msiexec.exe /i AcroRead.msi /qb /norestart",
then, after a 5sec delay, "AdbeRdrUpd912_all_incr.msp /qb /norestart".
That works fine, except that occasionally, when I start the AdbeRdrUpd912_all_incr.msp a window pops up saying that some other installation is already running. After many tests I found out that after the AcroRead.msi has finished, it starts an installation of AIR in the background (using the system account!) without asking or telling. When that hasn't finished when I run the update, bang ... I don't want to put in a 5-10 minute delay just to be sure. And I hate when stuff gets installed without asking and/or telling.
So my question is: How can I avoid this virus-like AIR installation? (I know what AIR is, but I don't want it to install itself like a virus)

I have a smilar problem . I deployed version 9 using the msi and the mst file created by the custom wizard. I removed all shortcuts and automatic updates etc.
When I apply the exact same settings using verion 9 1  Adobe Air and Adobe Com both install a few seconds afterwards
Did you manage to get a fix for your issue

How to install Xp without the DVD? Is there anyway to get the drivers that are to be installed from the dvd after installing Xp?
I really need to use Autocad and Rhino on my Macpro, so Parallels or VMware fusion is not an option. I am already using VMware fusion on my Macbook pro, but VMware will not use 4g RAM of my Macpro which means it would be hard to run Rhino.
By the way, I am planning to buy Windows (I am sooooo ashamed to install that self-messed up OS on my Macpro. but so what,,, Autocad and Rhino do not run on Mac, and I need specifically the two programs). XP with sp2, sp3, or vista. which one is the best option?
Since my Macpro has only One 2.8GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon, there is no need to buy XP professional? (XP home doesn't support multi-processors, and XP Pro does, I guess?)

VMware Fusion uses only 512 RAM maximum, doesn't it? But you said it will use my entire 4GB RAM but only 2 cores. That's something different from what I've known.
If fusion really uses 4gm RAM of my mac pro, I don't really have to use Boot Camp. But most people who need to run heavy programs in Windows choose Boot Camp because it's the only way to use a Mac just like a PC, meaning that the XP uses the entire RAM memory.
XP will only use 2 GB of RAM, no matter how much the system has.
I just found out that Rhino doesn't really work on Vista. So vista is ruled out.
Only Vista 64-bit recognizes all system RAM.

  • Installing reader without Adobe Air

We would like to distribute Adobe Reader without Adobe Air or
Adobe.com. The command we use to remotely install Adobe Reader is
    "psexec @c:\tmp\systems.txt -u XXXUSERIDXXX-p XXXPASSWORDXXX
    -c -i \\apps\adobe\9.1.0\AdbeRdr910_en_US_Std.exe /sAll /rs /rps"
Is there a switch we could use to only install Adobe Reader?

    Hi alouis,
Sounds like your distributing Flash Player within your org, as such, you'll need to license these products for distribution.  Please see the following links for information on licensing the various products for distribution:

  • How to install thunderbird without Eudora migrations

I have used Eudora since the mid 90s and now wish to switch to Thunderbird. I downloaded TB and installed it, including the option for importing mailboxes (and settings?) from Eudora 7. I'm using Windows 7. It worked perfectly, although it took quite a while to import the Eudora stuff. I then decided the Eudora stuff "cluttered" everything, when learning how to use TB, so I decided to uninstall TB, and reinstall it WITHOUT the Eudora migration option. This time, although the TB install again worked fine... all the Eudora imports arrived on TB again, even though I was given no chance/window to ask for or decline them this time. Please, how can I install TB without the Eudora imports, preferably WITHOUT uninstalling Eudora, as I at least want to keep it to refer to my many 100s of messages there.
Then, one day, I may choose to eventually import the Eudora stuff, but not until I become competent in TB. By the way, TB still imports Eudora stuff when installed, without asking, even when Eudora is "hidden" by PC-Magic Hidden Folders. Any help is much appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Charles

Thunderbird maintains a profile folder in the appdata folder on windows. You can uninstall reinstall and do just about anything you like, but the profile is unaffected by install and uninstall.
    Close Thunderbird.
Type at the start menu search box %appdata% and press enter
the thunderbird folder shown in windows explorer will contain the profile and setting file that points to the location of the profile. Delete that folder and your good to go.
Start Thunderbird and it will be like a fresh install.

  • How to install Reader 4.0 on VIsta 64-bit machine

I have an old program that looks for Acrobat Reader 4.0 under the Adobe programs directory in programs folder.
Anyone have any suggestions to install REader 4.0 so my program finds it?
    Thanks.
AR40ENG.EXE was bundled on the installation disk I received from teh software company which is now out of business....
My program is looking for Reader file named pdf.ocx.
    David Ristau

Well Mike, I appreciate your commennts, however, if I could haul around my old desktop with me and my vista 64 laptop, then problem would be solved.
However, I can't haul the desktop.
And like Linda, I've had a problem installing on XP.
Except, though, I was able to install 4.0 on a Dell laptop with XP pro.
I believe I installed it on the Dell before I installed Acrobat Pro 7.0.
I also believe that since I installed it on the Dell before 7.0, it would explain why I now can't load 4.0 reader on 2 new XP boxes that have Acrobat Pro 7.0 already installed.
Question for Linda: Did you unistall all versions of Acrobat as well as Reader trying to install 4.0?
Thanks for all comments and suggestions. I'll give them all a shot to get the 4.0 on an XP box.
FYI Mike, the old program I'm trying to use is a year 2000 tax prep software from an old company named Tax and Accounting Software. Even after all these years it's been the only program I've found for printing labels that lets me start anywhere on a label page and any quantity or font. Intuit bought out the company in 2001 and continues to sell a bookkeeping package that uses a similar labeling process that does work in XP and Vista 64. If I could figure out how to export the 400+ label file I have in that old tax package in a format the bookeeping package could read, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
I'll be calling Intuit next week to see if they have any suggestions other than re-typing all that label information.
Again, thanks for any help and suggestions

  • How to install Reader X onto D:/

Previously Adobe Reader version 9 was installed on drive D:/Program Files/Adobe/...
During upgrade to Reader X, Adobe DLM did not offer option to select location.  Installation went to C:/Program Files/Adobe/... and all of version 9 was removed from D:/ in the process.
How can Adobe Reader X be installed on D:/ rather than on C:/?
Is it possible to download an installation file for Reader X onto D:/, and install onto D:/ with help of appropriate switches for the .exe file?
I would also like to install all other Adobe programs onto D:/ as well, and have uninstalled all of them at this time to avoid potential conflict.

Try Downloading Reader build from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
then double ckick the installer (it will install in UI mode) and click on "change destination folder" button to browse in my computer. From this button you can change the path of installation. Let me know if you face any problem in doing this.

  • How to install Quicktime WITHOUT iTunes?

It seems that there isn't a Quicktime installation kit, just an "iTunes with Quicktime" kit. That can't be right. I don't want to install Apple bloatware that I'm never going to use and would just uninstall right away just to get a simple video player.
Seriously, iTunes includes DRM (Digital Restrictions Software) of the sort that you often can never get off of your system without crippling it in some way.
All I want to do is watch movie previews. I shouldn't have to install 35 MB of software (compressed) just to watch movie previews.
So please, tell me how to install just Quicktime, or tell me about a Quicktime 7 compatible media player I can use as an alternative.
    Tony
P.S. Why are so many movie previews available only in Quicktime format? Does Apple pay the studios to get a monopoly in this area or what? You can usually can get around this by going to Canadian sites, for example the US site for Imagine Me and You has only a Quicktime format preview, but you can go to a Canadian site, http://www.icinema.ca/movie.php?movieID=51628, and they have the preview in Windows Media and Real formats ONLY (Quicktime isn’t even available). But that's an inconvenience. Why can’t we get to choose our media format in the US?
    Alienware something-or-other   Windows XP

Thanks for the link. That's exactly what I was looking for.
I went back to the "Quicktime Download" tab and I still can't see a link to the /standalone page. It must be hidden somewhere, but Real does the same sort of bait-and-switch thing, except they are trying to trick you into paying for their product, which is even worse.
Also I apologize for the attitude. Just kind of frustrated, having spent too much time trying to solve this very minor problem.

  • How to install itunes without cd/dvd rom support?

    Hi,
Everybody knows when you install iTunes to any windows device, you will have a problem with your dvdrw afterwards. Till day, every installation i made end up with losing my dvd-rom.
There is 3 solution to this problem, but those solutions never worked for me and last time i used my company notebook without it's dvdrom for over a year.
Now, i reinstall my notebook with Windows 8.1 Update 1 and i want to install iTunes for my music but i can' let iTunes do the same thing again.
Is there anyway install iTunes without cd-dvd 3rd party/usb/firmware driver support?
I search on net and i found this link but it's way too old
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA44491?viewlocale=en_US

QuickTime is required for iTunes to run. You can think of iTunes as a media manager "front end" to QuickTime which handles the actual playing of the media.
Safari was an optional install when I installed iTunes on my Windows system. I wasn't forced to install Safari. MobileMe is also no longer automatically installed, though it will update if it finds an existing installation. I didn't get it forced on me when I installed on my Vista system.

Use the installer provided here to install reader:

  • How to install Aperture without original dvd

I lost my Aperture 2 installation and Aperture 3 upgrade disks. How to install Aperture in my new Macbook ?

Do you still have the Aperture 2 and Aperture 3 registration codes? Then you can download the Trial installer and use that to install Aperture on your new Macbook.
You can download the Aperture 3 trial installer to reinstall Aperture from this webpage - there is a link to the trial and instructions on how to reinstall - don't let the title of this page distract you :
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating
The Aperture 3 serial number will be available in the about panel, when you are running Aperture on your old mac (from the main menu bar: Aperture > About Aperture).

Hello everyone. I've just bought IdeaPad Y530 and I want to remove Vista from it. I would like to remove both Windows partitions and leave only this hidden one.I would like to install as well GRUB linux loader as a default loader (MBR). My question is : Is it possible to do those things without losing possibility to install VISTA from the hidden partition. IF yes then how to do it? I've got several doubts. Changing partition size, removing VISTA loader from MBR. Even I dislike VISTA, I paid for this soft so I want to keep it. Can I ask a little help?

Hi, I'm not sure but I think Windows Live One Care has a Firewall. Do you know how to disable it and also WLOC? I'm not sure if you need to. Some Anti-Virus can block the Install of that ActiveX Control (Shockwave Flash Object)
On the Help section, I use XP and IE8. I have a Help at the top of the browser but nothing about Windows Help or support. I'm not sure what you mean exactly. If Flash Player was not working, then any Flash Content would not have been able to be seen, or videos, etc. Any website with Flash generated pictures, etc would not be able to be seen without Flash Player.
You must use the Administrator Account to Uninstall/Install Flash Player since this account gives you the permissions needed to Install that ActiveX ContTTrol into the browser and write to the Windows Registry.
The easier way is to download the Uninstaller and SAVE it to your Desktop. And download the FP Installer for IE and SAVE it to your Desktop. Then you would disable the Firewall and Anti-Virus(if needed),
disable any apps (check system tray) for messenger services, yahoo, msn, etc. since they use Flash. Then you would close all browsers, Run the Uninstaller and when it is finished, Reboot. Then Run the Installer and when finished Reboot.
    The Uninstaller:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
    The Installer:  http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe
Before you start, you may want to review the Revised Troublshooting Guide. Read it over to check settings etc.
If you have any questions after reading that let me know. It is getting late in my time zone, so I'll check your thread tomorrow.
