How to install Serial # on replacement hard drive in orig. computer?

Hard drive failed, replaced and program installed on new drive. It is stating that the program is already installed on two computers. The program is only installed on my laptop and the original failed hard drive of my home computer. How do I correct this problem????????

I have a late 2012 iMac 21.5 inch. I boot from an external solid state drive. However there are apps I would like to install to the internal hard drive. Whenever I install an app from the app store it by default installs to the boot drive. I am slowing running out of room on the SSD. What packages to install, and how to install in an USB hard drive

Hello.
Well, as I said in another thread, I want to install in an USB hard drive. But I don't know how, because it hasn't graphical installer, but text installer. I tried in a virtual machine, and it was fine, but when I want to start it, an error appears, "Was not found a bootable system" or something. Maybe a VM is not as a computer, but... well. I didn't change anything while I was installing GRUB, and I know that I've to install it in /dev/sdb.
And I want to know too, what packages to install and what packages don't (the ones which are neither "base" nor "base-devel"). But I'll install sudo, links and ndiswrapper (for wifi).

Macbook screen cracked. How to transfer files from old hard drive to new computer?

I had a 13" white macbook, but the screen cracked, and the computer wouldn't work anymore. I took it to be fixed, but they weren't able to fix it, so they gave me a macbook pro. I asked them to try and transfer the files from my old macbook to the old one, but they said that they couldn't, and gave my the hard drive and said I could have someone else try to fix it for me. How do I connect the old hard drive to my new macbook to see if I can get the files off of it? I don't have the old computer anymore, just the hard drive itself. Thanks!

I have successfully installed Snow Leopard in an exterior Hard Drive. But iLife is not installed. How do I installed iLife in my secondary Hard Drive?

I have a MacBook I am currently running Liuon but have previously installed Leopard and Snow Leopard without clearing the hard drive first.

How to install Leopard to external hard drive & boot the eMac from it.

I am attempting to update my mom's eMac so she can use her new iPad and have discovered it would be best to install Leopard onto an external firewire hard drive and boot from that. I want to be sure I'm doing it right. So, I attach the drive to the eMac, partition and format it (I did find some instructions in the forum) and then how do I load Leopard on the external drive. Would it be best to do all the formatting and installation from my own MacBook Pro? After Leopard is on the external drive, how do I cause the eMac to boot from it?
Or would it be easier to return the iPad, buy the basic Macbook and shine the eMac? Can you tell I'm frustrated?

Yes you can use a 320GB SATA Hard drive with no problems whatsoever on the Notebook.

Installing Vista after replacing hard drive in a Toshiba Satellite L45-57423

The hard drive in my old Toshiba laptop went bad and had to be replaced. I no longer have (and am unsure I ever had) the Windows recovery disk. Do I need to purchase a new Windows Vista recovery disk for this computer or is it better to buy a Windows Installation disk?

How to transfer history from old hard drive to new computer

So my motherboard on my old PC died. I therefore pulled the hard-drive from my old computer and patiently waited on my new toy to come in. Problem is, I didn't have a chance to do my weekly synch before my old system crashed. I'd like to get the history/favorites off of my old hard-drive, but I'm not sure how to go about it. The OS are also different - old PC was Windows 7, new is 8.1.

You need the places.sqlite file to restore history.
Note that this file stores the bookmarks as well, so you will lose bookmarks that you already have created.
The file structure in Windows 8 is the same as in Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

I am selling my broken Macbook for parts, how can I erase my old hard drive without the computer working?

I destroyed my Macbook in a car accident and have found somebody to buy it for parts. To be safe I want to make sure the Hard Drive is void of all personal information before I hand it over. What are my options?

they do sell them at best buy. I just went to the best buy website and searched for "external enclosure". Make sure it is 2.5" as that is the size of laptop hard drives, not 3.5" as that is to hold desktop hard drives.

Last Friday apparently one of my raid drives started failing.
As I mentioned on this forum I started getting continous beeping.
I was finally able to get the raid working at a degraded level. I ordered a replacement hard drive which is arriving today.
(In the meantime I made twice daily backups of my work.....)
Below was the message I got from the browser based raid software:

At one point when I did the checked the browser interface I saw the message Failed and Degraded
As I said, I was able to work over the weekend on the degraded system.
This morning I got the beeping again and did the rescue and now I am running a "full raid" without the notice that one raid was "Free".
In any case, the new hard drive is arriving today.
What steps should I take to incorporate the new drive into the raid system.
I have one OS drive
and 4 tb raid drives.   One needs to be replaced with the new one that I am getting today.

Please tell me how to read the serial number from an individual drive rather easily, without un-installing them:
If you select the proper drive to change out, you only need to remove one drive and look at its serial number...
Step 1: Identify bad drive serial number using Areca's tools
Step 2: Turn off the computer
Step 3: Remove what you think is the bad drive based on following your numbered cable method, marked hot-swap bays, whatever
Step 4: Verify that the serial number matches the "bad drive" serial number from step 1; if it does great, proceed; if it does not match, go back to step 3
Step 5: Change out the CORRECT drive - that's the bottom line for this whole procedure
