How to install Solaris from a Windows computer

I have recently received the Solaris operating system on DVD. The only computer that I have that has a DVD player is my laptop. It is however connected to the desktop that I wold like to install the system onto by a switch. I am not sure how to go about installing solaris over the LAN onto the desktop. This is the current setup.
The desktop has Ubuntu with no direct connection to the internet. The Laptop has a wireless connection to the net with Internet connection sharing enabled. The two are connected via a switch and the laptop acts as a router to assign the ip address for the desktop. I would like to know how I can Install Solaris to the desktop over the network from the windows laptop.
Please help!
Thanks.

Yes it does. I did that before but I could never get the image to boot after recording it to cd.
Thanks for the reply by the way. I actually found some articles that I am reading through at:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-5504/6mkv4nh3p?a=view
This seems to be going in the right direction. My next question I guess will be how to boot the client from the network. I am not sure how to map the boot procedure to the server. Any ideas are welcome.

  • Installing solaris from a windows xp computer over a network

Hi, I just received the solaris 10 dvd from sun. I have the sparc and the x86 versions. The problem I have now is that I need to install it onto a computer that does not have a dvd drive. Here is the current set up of the network:
I have three computers connected by a switch. Then I also have a laptop which has a wireless connection to the internet. The laptop also has a cable connection to the switch which allows me to share the internet connection to the other three computers. Not the best setup, because when I leave with the laptop the desktops have no internet. Anyway, the laptop has Windows XP microsoft internet connection sharing enabled so it acts as the router. The desktops, one has FreeBSD with DHCP enabled, another has windows xp and the third has Ubuntu. The LAN is working well so far as all can connect to the net.
So now I would like to know if I can and how to install solaris onto the Ubuntu desktop with the dvd inserted into my windows xp laptop over the network. This will be my first Solaris install so I really appreciate all the help and pointers to any tutorials on the net.
    Thanks!

  • How do I move large files from a Windows computer to my MacBook Pro? There are a lot of photos (tiffs

How do I move large files from a Windows computer to my MacBook Pro? There are a lot of photos (tiffs, jpgs, some photoshopped files), iTunes library, word docs. Is there a particular type of external hard drive that can be used or am I limited to copying stuff onto z-drive and moving that way?

If both computers are on the same network, you can share the files from the Windows host using SMB and mount the share on the Mac. Otherwise, the Mac should be able to read (not necessarily write) any storage device formatted in Windows.

You don't. Platform swaps only apply to current versions. You need to buy at least the CS6 upgrade and make the switch.

I already have the photos transfered into a photo stream file.
How to activate the transfer ?

    Hey Juergen119,
I would recommend syncing your photos from your computer to your iPad by using iTunes:
    iTunes: Syncing photos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
First, if you want to set it up to work via iCloud, I would check and make sure My Photo Stream is set up correctly on your devices:
To use My Photo Stream you need an iCloud account, compatible devices, and up-to-date software:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.1 or later
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and iPhoto 9.2.2 or Aperture 3.2.3 or later
Apple TV (2nd generation) with Apple TV Software Update 5.0 or later
PC with Windows 7 or later and the iCloud Control Panel 2.1 or later for Windows
For complete iCloud setup instructions, visit How to set up iCloud.
Then, once it is set up, you can upload your photos to My Photo Stream by following these directions:
PC with iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later: Open a Windows Explorer window and under Favorites select iCloud Photos if you are using iCloud Control Panel 3.0 (or Photo Stream if you are using 2.0 to 2.1.2). Open My Photo Stream. Click the "Add photos" button. Select the photos to import to My Photo Stream, then click Open.

  • How to install Solaris 8 as the third OS?

    Hi all
I'll appreciate anyone who could guide me how to install Solaris 8 in my PC which runs on an Intel Pentium III
Currently, I've installed Windows 2000 on the first partition, Red Hat 7.2 on the second partition. Only the first partition is primary, the second is logical partition. However, I don't use LILO as the boot manager. I use Window's boot manager instead.[I modified the boot.ini a little bit]
Now, I want to install Solaris 8 which can be installed on a Intel processor, on the third partition. However, I heard that it's very difficult to install Solaris so that I really need your advices from all of you. Thanks a million!
    Best regards,

    Hi,
I am also dealing with the same. For these three to sit, in your case, create a partition from fdisk of Linux which can be identified by solaris8. Then when you startoff installing solaris8, the OS should be in a position to capture that partion. If that won't happen, using Solaris8 fdisk is very dangerous. You can not preserve your old data. Try this way.

    what can be wrong?

I recommend you do as LexSchellings and I are telling you to do. If you have uninstalled iTunes and the reinstalled it from Apple's website and it still does not work, you will have to contact the Apple Technical Support section for them to guide you through steps to try and get it working.

  • How to install SOA 10g on Windows 7 64-bit platform?

    Hi Friends
How to install SOA 10g on Windows 7 64-bit platform ?
I've downloaded the 64-bit version downloadable from OTN and able to run the irca.bat on DB 10.2.0.3 however the SOA Installer fails at BPEL Config Assistant step with errors :

This is typically the result of an invalid deployer URI format being supplied, the target server not being in a started state or incorrect authentication details being supplied.

    Hi,
We know now why SOA Installer fails...
Now we need to know why you can not start OC4J properly. What do you see in the log files?

  • How to Install or Run on Windows Xp/7

Hi, I just see the bin/kvctl for Linux.
How to Install o Run on Windows ?

The actual command to invoke kvlite is pretty simple. From the bottom of the kvlite script:
    java $LOGGING -cp $LIBDIR/kvstore-1.1.100.jar oracle.kv.util.kvlite.KVLite -root $KVROOT -store $KVSTORE -host $HOSTNAME -port $REGPORT $ADMINPORT
Here is a .cmd file that you can use (it's not supported). Some of our developers run on Windows but it is not a supported platform since we don't run our qualification tests on it. It's Java code, so in theory, "it should just work".

My client is a billion $ top 10 Fortune 500 multi-national company that has been in business longer than Microsoft AND Oracle put together. The VAX 6630 has been running over 20 years and the disks have been spinning just as long. This is a lot better than Microsoft can do considering they can't even put together an operating system that works for more than a couple of years. Welcome to the REAL world, pal.
I am currently connecting to the VAX with Oracle 8i installed on Windows XP. Works great! So, putting aside all the snickering, can you answer the question or not? No time to laugh here. We have REAL world problems to solve. The VAX was a great machine with a great OS. I'm not surprised it is still humming along. Perhaps, from a pure business standpoint, this reliability is what led to the demise of DEC ... once you buy their equipment, there's little reason to spend more money with them. But all hardware fails eventually. Where do you get hardware support for this setup?
What do you do with your real world, Fortune 500 problem when you have to ask for help from Oracle? What is their response?
