Assuming you are on Windows, you can download the client installable from
http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/oracle10g/10201/10201_client_win32.zip -- for Oracle 10g client
http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/oracle11g/win32_11gR1_client.zip -- for Oracle 11g client
If you are looking for any other version, please mention the same.

  • Install sql*net

    Hi all
I need install sql*net as client
on personal laptop, trying to connect to oracle instance from server
(ip address server oracle xe instance is 10.0.0.2 and ip address laptop have 10.0.0.9)
Where can I download this sql*net and how I can configure it?
    regards
    Gordan

Hi, Usually if you want to install any specific components, choose customs in the installation screens and you can select which tool you want to install.
But I guess you cannot install sql*net alone. Try it out.

  • How to Install SQL Enterprise Manager ?

The standard installation file which sap gives sql4sap.vbs doesnt install the Enterprise manager.
How to install SQL Enterprise Manager (ECC6+Win2003).
    regards,
    dev

    Hi,
Server type is normally "Database Engine". You can use the Dev. Studio to connect to various other types (e.g. Reporting Services, Analysis Service etc.)
The Servername is the instance name you want to connect to. For a default instance it is your machinename, for a named instance it is Machinename\Instancename.
Authentication can be Windows Authentication if you are logged on as a local Admin. For an ABAP System only Windows Authentication is possible, for a JAVA System the SQL authentication is necessary, so that you can logon as 'sa' with the password you provided in the setup.
    Regards

  • How to decipher SQL*Net protocols/packets?

    hi,
we have a customer that sells compliance solutions that basically track and audit information at the packet level. in order to expand their customer base they would like to offer their solutions to customer that have business systems built on Oracle Forms 6.x and Pro*C. to do this they need to understand how our network communication works. is this something that is generally available? here are some details for what the partner wants from us ...
Their product intercepts the communication between a typical Db client and Db server at packet level, performs analysis on the packets and extracts the information required for SOX compliance. It's been successfully installed and working for various versions of Oracle servers and Clients, however it does not handle Oracle Forms and pro*C clients.
It also wrks for pro*c client except for bind variables and arrays.
We need information on packet formats during communication between Oracle database and Forms and pro*c clients. This will help our product to work for SOX compliance for the customers who have FORMS and pro*c clients without replacing them
I know that form Forms to DB its SQL*Net, not sure what the protocol is for PRO*C to DB communication but do we have documentation on both?

Assuming you are on Windows, you can download the client installable from
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/oracle10g/10201/10201_client_win32.zip -- for Oracle 10g client
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/oracle11g/win32_11gR1_client.zip -- for Oracle 11g client
If you are looking for any other version, please mention the same.

    Thanks in advance.
So, I can reproduce this problem.
By default windows have not .Net 3.5 installed, but SQL Server tools need it.
When I run sql setup on fresh windows it started normally.
If run .net setup when sql setup already running it's OK.
But if you exist from sql setup (or not run it) and install .net in Windows Components it's impossible to run SQL setup.

  • Need to install SQL*Net?

I am being told that I need something called SQL*Net to get a front end working to access a remote (like 1/2 way around the world) database. I do have the most recent Oracle client tools installed and it seems like it has the necessary networking configuration tools. However, my contact in Denmark is saying to get SQL*Net, the client tools won't cut it and I need to download a full 9i database. Is there any reference out there stating what I'll need and how I configure it?

Generally Oracle client software is installed on Windows, if it is your case these books can be very useful.

  • How to install SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.1.1 for Mac OS X?

How do I install SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.1.1 for Mac OS X? I downloaded the file "datamodeler-3.1.1-703-macosx.gz" from OTN, but there is only a single file inside this archive - "datamodeler-3.1.1-703-macosx". What am I missing here?
    Thanks in advance...

Extract that file and then run it.
Once you installed the tool to your Applications folder (if you choose to move it to Applications), you'll need to install Java (maybe).
What version of OS X are you on?
In a command window/terminal, type 'java -version'
If you get something back like 'java version "1.6..." then you're all good.
If you're on Mountain Lion, then type 'java' instead. That should download java for you.
Once you've got java available, then launch SQL Developer Data Modeler.
The installation notes are here if you want the official list of instructions

  • How to install SQL in an existing Azure VM?

    Hi,
I have deployed an Azure VM, with a base operating system. Now I wish to install SQL Server on it, but cant find any proper how-to guide. This link to "SQL Server Deployment in Azure
Virtual Machines" no longer works: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn133141.aspx (it is a link from this root page: https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/azure/jj823132.aspx)
Most of the other URLs point at installing a SQL VM from scratch, not about adding SQL to an existing Azure VM. Is this true?
    Thanks,
    SK

    Hi Shim,
Yes, the guide is all about  creating a SQL Server virtual machine in Azure. eg:- SQL server 2014 RTM enterprise. This image contains the full version of SQL server . The platform provided SQL Server virtual machine image.
With SQL Server in Azure Virtual Machines, you can still use the same development and administration tools that are available on-premises. In addition, you can provision or deprovision virtual machines to achieve elasticity on demand and connect them
to your on-premises infrastructure by using
    Azure Virtual Network.

  • How to secure SQL*Net over firewall?

A client application is in an insecure network. It has to connect via SQL*Net to a database server in a DMZ behind a firewall. The client application uses a database user with read-only permissions.
What measures are available, to restrict the client permissions?
It shall not be possible to authenticate as DBA from the insecure client.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards,
    D.

Depending on what it is you are trying to secure, you can use Oracle Advanced Security to encrypt all the traffic to and from the database, so no one can evesdrop on the traffic to the client machine. To get through the DMZ, you would probably need to install and configure Oracle Connection Manager. Some firewalls will proxy the Oracle connection through the firewall, as well.
Can you connect as sysdba from machines other than the database server today? I don't believe there is a way to restrict connections from a particular user to coming from a particular set of machines, though you can lock down a database so that only local connections can be made AS SYSDBA.

  • How to check sql*net version

    Hi,
I've read a support note that reports instructions and differences between SQL*Net 2.1 and SQL*Net 2.2.
How can I check the SQL*Net version implemented by my databases and clients ?

The database view v$version would obviously only report data for the database version in use and not the client.
If the client has sqlplus then the sqlplus banner should show the client version (SQL*Plus: Release) before listing the target database release information.
The view v$session_connect_info is know to report the database version rather than the client version.
Reference Note: 1419025.1 Wrong Value For CLIENT_VERSION in V$SESSION_CONNECT_INFO
See the first note I posted a reference to.
