Thanks For Any Help...........

Your slow response of the system could be caused by many different factors. From a corrupted install of the OS to faulty hardware in the system.
The only way to test it is to completely erase the drive, Repartition it, and reinstall the operating system, OS X, and all your programs. If after a Clean install of OS X, and selectively installing your programs one at a time, and testing after each install to find out why the system is running so slow. If right after installing the OS the system is slow to respond then it is likely a hardware problem. If it runs fine then it was a software problem.
If you find it is a hardware problem the only thing to do is take the system to Apple for diagnosis and repair or exchange.
If you find it is a software problem then do not install that piece of software.

  • INSTALL SSD IN MACBOOK PRO LATE 2011

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 15". I would like to upgrade the 5400rpm hardrive for a fast SSD. Is it easy to do yourself or should I get this done in a store?

Sorry - this one slipped past me...
It's easy to DIY. I put a 512GB Crucial m4 into my 15" late 2011 MacBook Pro last April. There are hundreds of videos on YouTube on how to install the drive.
First, decide on which drive you want - there's a good info and buyer's guide here. Although much of the discussion is about drives for Windows machines, most buying advice is good for Mac's, too. You'll also want to get yourself a toolkit and an external enclosure for your old drive - I got both from OWC.
After you have the drive installed, follow the directions here to format the SSD and clone the 'old' drive to your new SSD.
    Any questions? Yell back...

  • Installing SSD on MacBook Pro

So I'm planning to replace my original hard drive off my Early-2011 MacBook Pro with an SSD.
I understand the whole process of replacing it, but I'm wondering on which hard drive to use.
Will a Samsung 840 Series Pro work with it?
    Link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Series-256GB-Solid-State/dp/B009LI7CTY/ref=sr_1_ 2?ie=UTF8&qid=1390162797&sr=8-2&keywords=macbook+pro+ssd
If so, it's a simple job of taking the old out and putting the new one in, then using the OS X install disk?

I know I am late to the party on this subject but... I just recently replaced the hard drive on my Late 2011 17" Macbook Pro. I started researching the process I read all kinds of posts with links to other information on the TRIM utility and KAST signing and everyone talking about how much trouble they were having trying to put an SSD in their Macbook Pro. I almost took the drive back to the store but I decided to talk to one of the Apple geniuses first. I could not believe what he was telling was correct because it was so simple. I pulled out the 750 GB hard drive that came with my Macbook Pro and installed a Samsung EVO 850 128 GB SSD. I booted off the network (press "C") and it went out to Apple and downloaded the OS that came with the Mac afterwards I upgraded to Yosemite. That was all I had to do. No worries about TRIM or KAST.
Once again I am convinced Apple makes the best products on the market. I doubt you can do this simply with a PC and Windows.

  • How to install airport in MacBook Pro

I bought a MBP and Airport Extreme about ten days ago. The Apple store said I needed an Airport Extreme card so I got that, too. The manuals say to install the card according to the directions that came with the computer, however, there were no instructions. Can't find installation directions on the support page. How do I install this card, or where do I find installation instructions?

All MacBook Pros include an AirPort Extreme card. Return the one you purchased.

  • Installing SSD in MacBook Pro

I will be receiving a new 512 gig SSD tomorrow and want to replace my existing HDD in my 17" MacBook Pro.
Unlike most everything else I've read discussing this, I want to load everything fresh on to the new drive rather than cloning the existing drive.
If I simply access the existing HDD, remove it, plug in the SSD and have the OS X in the CD slot, will it boot from the CD and install the OS automatically?
I understand there may be a few steps to that, but I'm asking if the Macbook Pro will simply recognize the new blank drive, perhaps ask to format it and then load the OS from the CD?
It seems to be that easy, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something before I crack this thing open.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Tim

Just an update. The SSD drive arrived early and I just finished installing it.
It is a thing of beauty.  Fast, quiet, awesome. No more clicking hard drive, and everything is much faster. Now on to transferring all my files.
And it was a matter of just pulling out the old one and putting in the new one. I did have to use the Disk Utility to create a new partition, but it was easy.
I didn't buy the SSD from these folks, but their video helped immensely:

I don't think I'll ever be able to have a laptop with a standard HDD again. 20 minutes is all it took to get spoiled for life.

  • How to install software on macbook pro

    Hi,
So I have the Macbook Pro with the Retina display. It does not have a CD-rom slot.
I have a Logic software that I want to install for my laptop. I installed this software on my previous Macbook that had a CD-rom slot.
Does anyone know how to install such a big file/program without having it to do a MacBook Share from another laptop?

If you know someone with one, ask if you can borrow it. Otherwise, using another computer's internal drive is the free way; there is no credit in the Mac App Store for having bought the DVD version of a product.

  • How to install hard drive Macbook Pro 10.6.3

I have a Macbook Pro Os X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard. I was told that I have a failed hard drive. It costs about $195 for repair at my local shop. I read that I can purchase my own hard drive from BestBuy and have geek squad to install it. The guy says it costs $50 for installation but about $180 to reinstall the system. My question is....is there a good link you could give me for directions to how I can install my own hard drive? Also, when he says install the whole system, what does that mean. I already have my installation disks that came with my Mac. The hard drive that's currently in my Mac is a Western Digital 250GB. Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for your reply. I let it run and it eventually said that Mac OS X can't be installed on the computer. And that the installer could not install the necessary support files. This was all done on a brand new hard drive and was the exact error given on my previous hard drive. (The one that  I was told had failed). I tried installing from a clone of the CD on a USB but it stalls at the blue screen and eventually has a rotating cursor. Do you recommend anything further?? I would appreciate your help, greatly.

  • Can i install SSD into MacBook Pro 2012?

    Hi All,
I don't usually deal with Mac upgrades but i've been asked if i can replace the standard Hard Disk which is currently in a Macbook Pro 2012(?) model with a SSD storage?
My thinking is 'yes' as the SSD comes in SATA form anyway and the current Hard Disk is using SATA. So it shouldnt be a problem right?
Just thought i would ask in here as i'm pretty sure someone else has either done this already or confirm yes or no.
    Thanks a bunch!

    Yes.

  • How to install SSD on Mac pro as boot disc

Currently using two WD 500GB HDs, one cloned by Super Duper. I'm replacing these with two Hitachi 1TB (6 Gb/s) and would like to add an SSD for a boot up and app disk. Please help with advice on how to mechanically install the SSD (E.g., is an adapter bracket needed?) and how best to move or install OS X and the apps onto the SSD.

Yes, you need an adapter to convert the 2.5" drive to 3.5".  Here's OWC adapter.  Included on that plage I linked to is a little video illustrating how to use it.  If you buy some other adapter installation is basically the same.
As for how to make it your boot drive, there are a number of ways you can do that.  The procedures make no difference whether is it a SSD or HDD.
The first way would be to do a full clean reinstall of your system on to the boot drive.  Then if you need to, use Migration Assistant to move stuff from your "old" HDD boot drive to the new boot drive.
The second is simply clone your existing HDD to your SSD.
Once you created your new boot drive you can change your Startup Disk system preferences to default to boot from it.
No matter which method you use, always have backups before doing anything, or at least do not wipe out the original HDD until you are sure your system is fully working with the new SSD (wait a week), and then still create new backups of your new system.
Some other considerations.   Persoanlly I recommend OWC for SSD.  It's where I got my 120GB.   Assume an Snow Leopard installation needs about 25GB to work with enough room to expand its vm space, etc.   So depending on what you want to place on the SSD you probably be "safe" with anything from a 60GB to 120GB.  YOu might consider placing your home directory on a HDD leaving the SSD for the OS and what you consider "key" files.  That's how I have my system set up.

  • How to install SSD in Mac Pro

I'm upgrading a Mac Pro 1,1 - My new SSD (2.5") just arrived, and documentation is minimal - not sure if I need a kit or adapter to install into one of the open drive bays. Crucial (usually no complaints with them) isn't very informative.

You'll actually need an adaptor such as the Icy Dock (this is what I use).
Don't forget that your SATA ports are limited to 300MB/s, so you won't get top SSD speeds.

  • Install SSD, running macbook pro with two operating system and two hardrive

I am currently running bootcamp with Window 8 and Mountain Lion. I am about to install a 256gb SSD, replacing the optical drive. The partition on my current setup is 125 gb for window 8 and 125 gb for OSX.  Since this is the first time I am running a computer with two hardrive and two different operating systems, how should I go by installing (software) my SSD. Should I just make one hardrive run window and the other one run OSX. Is it possible to move the OSX partition to the SSD. Should I just install both window and OSX again on the SSD? What are some other options?

  • Install SSD in macbook pro late 2011 15'

    Hello,
I just want to make sure i have the steps right for installing my SSD. I am trying to avoid cloning because my current HDD is faulty which is why i'm replacing it. I have a time machine backed up on an external hard drive. So as far as i know i just need to
              1) Remove HDD and replace with SSD
              2) Boot the recovery drive
              3) Recover time machine
I am just confused with step 2. I thought the recovery drive was just a partition of the HDD so it should not show up with the SSD in. Or is it seperate?

Allow me to make things straight forward.
    Install the SSD.
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
Before rebooting OS X for the first time connect your Time Machine backup drive. Boot the computer and when you are asked if you want to transfer files now use the Setup Assistant to transfer your Home folder, third-party apps and support files, and system preferences from your Time Machine backup to the SSD.

  • Before installing SSD in macbook pro, should I first partition it through USB?

    Hi there,
I've got the Crucial MX100 as an upgrade from my Hitachi HDD. I don't need to copy anything from the old drive, and I will install Yosemite via usb flash.
I did a bit of research and some people (not mac users necessarily) have had problems in partitioning the SSD after attaching it to the sata port. My question is: would it be recommended to first create a GUID partition through USB on the ssd before installing it in? I think I know the answer to that, and my instincts tell me to trust the Mac, but I want to be sure.
    Thank you!
    Early 2011 MBP, 512GB Crucial MX100

Even if you have the same name as Grant Pannell the "pioneer" in the starting period of the SSDs, you can not post your statement as the truth.
And it certainly has nothing to do with data integrity. Can you tell me if Apple has something special in their SSD controller or the standard controller ?
If you refer to old SSDs with controllers of 3 or 4 years old, and a pre_Yosemite OS, Trim may have been interesting to install, I did it on all SSds then, and I am using SSDs already for 5 years. but in the last 2 years the SSD controllers are so advanced that - when overprovisioning is enough, trim does not add anything anymore. In Yosemite it is certainly unrealistic to do because you have to disrobe an important layer of security.
