How to install Sun solaries 9 or 10.

Hi,
I am trying to install Sun solaries 9 or 10.over AMD 64.
Please guide me to install sun on AMD.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chandan.

The very first thing you should do is go over the HCL or Hardware Compatability List. The most likely problems you will run into are the show stoppers, first and most likely will be the network card, if you have an onboard card that is part of the mainboard find out what kind it is and then check the HCL, if it is not there then pickup a PCI network card that is on the HCL list. Second will be the video, again find out with the HCL, worst case is you will get it installed and the X server won't work right. Again you may end up picking up an AGP or PCI video card that is supported.
As far as installing it's just a matter of booting of the installer CD and following the directions, take all the defaults first then do a bit of research on drive slicing and install it a second time.
I have not had good luck with the DVD's no matter whether they are going on a Intel, AMD or a SUN platform.

  • How to connect sun solaris 10 on sparc to the internet?

hello all. i don't know anything about sun solaris 10.
after installing sun solaris 10 into my sparc pc, i need to register it through internet.
but i don't know how to connect to internet through LAN at my campus. =(
Please help me & give me details how to connect to internet?

Go to docs.sun.com and get the "system administration guide: IP services". This will give you info on how to configure the network card and tcp/ip config files. Since you just installed this, you must have told the install process that the system was not connected to the network, otherwise it would have asked you for name service, hostname, etc. and configured this info for you.
First you need to get info from your network/lan admin on an ip address, netmask, gateway, NIS/NIS+/DNS server, etc.
If the LAN uses DHCP, then see the "DHCP" section of the IP Services guide.
If the LAN uses issued IP addresses, then with the info provided by your network admin in hand, you can do 1.) sys-unconfig to force the system to return to the part of the install where it will ask you for the info and configure it for your -OR- take the info provided and configure the appropriate files specified in the IP Services guide.

How to setup Sun Solaris 5.7 to perform routing and how to setup as a bridge.

    Hi,
1.You will have to have two interfaces
    Interface1      should be from network1
    interface2      should be from network2
2.will have to create hostname.interface files for each interface
    hostname.qfe0 hostname.qfe1
3.type hostname and ipAddressof each interface in /etc/inet/hosts
4.create /etc/defaultrouter file for static route
use "route" commands to create routes for the other interfaces.

  • How to install sun studio 12 under Centos 5???

    HI, all,
I am trying to install Sun Studio 12 into Centos 5. The followings are what I did:
    1. Download sun studio 12 package by selecting Linex (x86) for Centos from web site and save this package under /var/tmp.
    2. I used bzcat to unpack this package by:
    bzcat < SunStudio12ml-linux-x86-200709-pkg.tar.bz2 | /bin/tar xvf -
    3. I did prepare_system before installation by:
    ./prepare_system [-d /opt/sun/ ] [-R /var/tmp/ ] [-C | -s netbeans | java | patches | all_patches | jdk_patches | all | print_needed_steps ]
where [-d /opt/sun/ ] is the directory where all missing softwares will be installed, [-R /var/tmp/ ] is the directory where unpacked programs are saved.
After running prepare_system, the resposes are:
    bash: -s: command not found
    bash: patches: command not found
    bash: all_patches: command not found
    bash: all: command not found
    bash: print_needed_steps: command not found

  • How to Restart Sun Solaris SunFire V445

    Hi all,
May i know whether this command "shutdown -g0 -y -i6" is for restart server? Normally our practice is to physically press the server 'start' botton and the server boot up everything such as Oracle, Tomcat, Mount Point and other Scriptings automatically.
I'm wondering above command is having the same function with the press 'start' button. Also how about "init 6" command?
    Thanks.

Well, the -i 6 flag tells you that shutdown will call 'init' with the argument '6'.
Since you use -y (yes) and -g0 (wait for 0 seconds before calling 'init 6') the only difference between shutdown and init in this case is that shutdown will wall out a message to the connected users before running init 6.
The command is equivalent to shutting down and power off the system and pressing the 'start' button.

    Thansk,
    Selva

The SUNWfoo and SUNWfoox packages were generally merged for Solaris 10 SPARC packages. The foox would represent 64-bit binaries/libraries and may be left out of a 32-bit system install.
Since Solaris 10 only runs a 64-bit kernel on SPARC, there's no reason to supply both packages and they were merged.
For x86, 32-bit kernel mode is still supported, and the package separation exists.

I had similar problems several months ago. I suspect this happens when host pc does not have floppy drive(or bios somehow misreports it) as it was in my case. Solaris 8 seems to work fine in the same environment, so I keep using it for now. Possible workaround might be to use DCA from Solaris 8: Installation of Sol9 started just fine after I entered Sol8 DCA and asked it to boot from Sol9 CD.
Hope this problem will be fixed in subsequent Sol9 releases.

There is an example here:

In your case Tier 2 would be inside the DMZ (private network) and Tier 1 outside the DMZ (public network).

I found the directory with java.exe on my XP client. After updating my Path and then typing 'java -versions' I still see a 'java not found message'. No problem though - a README.TXT says that I have JRE 1.1.7B.
One final question - a co-worker who also has XP just starting seeing a pop-up window saying 'Runtime' error when running a Java applet. His java.exe is in a path that includes the sub-directory 'JRE' On my XP client, java.exe is in a path which includes a 'JRE11' sub-directory. We therefore seem to have different versions of the JRE. Since I don't see the Runtime error when running the same applet, should my co-worker try upgrading his JRE?
