How to install System Centre Service Manager Console on any PC

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and am trying to get SCSM installed into the organisation for Servicedesk purposes.
According to several pieces of documentation, I should be able to "manually install the Service Manager console as a stand-alone piece on a computer". However, I am unable to find any documentation or instructions on how to install a fat console on a PC.
Can someone help me with the instructions.
I understand that future versions could well include an  Analyst Webportal, which hopefully will mature the Analyst environment significantly (currently with CR support on portal only, and having to use console is far from ideal.)

We had created a SCCM package to deploy SCSM 2010 SP1 console to user's PC. I also found someone post the following URL for SCSM 2012:

  • How to check System Center Service manager 2012 R2 license version

    Hi,
I have installed Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Service manager 3months before but do not have remember whether I put permanent license key or evaluation, can anyone please let me know how can I check whether this is evaluation or permanent license?
Warm Regards, Pramod Kumar Singh Manager-IT

    Hi,
During setup of the retail edition of System Center 2012 – Service Manager, you have the option of performing the installation without a product key and instead installing Service Manager as an evaluation edition. The evaluation
edition times out 180 days after installation. If you start with an evaluation version of Service Manager and you rerun Setup and install the retail edition or select edition, and you decide to use the existing databases that you created originally,
your installation will time out after the original expiration date.
I summarize the following steps and hopefully it will help you.
You could find the install date on :HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\System Center\2010\Service Manager\Setup"
Try to change the system time from install date to install date + 180days.
If you can't open the console again, you are evaluation Edition.
Rerun Setup to install Retail Edition or Select Edition.

  • Installed System Center Service Manager 2012 R2 and it crashes if I want to do any useful work with it.

    Hi,
I installed SM Authoring Tool 2012 R2 on my laptop allong with Visual Studio Shell 2008 SP1.
After the installation, I tried using the Authoring Tool and when I try editing a class created by SM Authoring Tool 2012 RTS (e.g. the first version) it crashes -- or an entirely *new* class, the tool crashes and reboots itself.
Any idea how to even diagnose the problem, or what the cause is?

the first thing would be to turn on the output window in the authoring tool, and see if there is anything interesting or useful in there before your crash. with the tool open, go to View, Output window. this shows a running log of actions the authoring
tool takes inside visual studio shell and the responses.

  • How System Centre can manage Azure ?

    Hi
How System Centre can manage Azure in better way?
Is there any better tool available in market, which can manage Azure.. ?
    Thanks, Kk

only two possibilities i see here
make these VM part of your network so they are visible to the System center, this can be done by creating a vpn or use system center that allow you to manage cloud VMs without having them in vpn, which i believe is called "System
Center Management Pack for Windows Azure"
The System Center Management Pack for Windows Azure enables you to monitor the availability and performance of resources that are running on Windows Azure. The management pack runs on a specified resource pool and then uses various Windows Azure APIs to remotely
discover and collect instrumentation information about a specified Windows Azure resource, such as a Cloud Service, Storage or Virtual Machine. The Management Pack for Windows Azure provides no functionality on import. For each Windows Azure subscription that
contains Azure resources you want to monitor, you must configure discovery and monitoring by first using the Windows Azure wizard in the administration section of the OM Console, then the Windows Azure Monitoring template in the authoring section of the OM
    Console.
    you can download it from
    here
    Hope this helps

    Hello
One question you have the website installed on the same
server on which you have the Server Management
    Server, so if you can
    not make your upgrade to
    SP1, this changed because
a prerequisite of System Center Service
Manager 2012 SP1 in which you can not have
    the server Mangement and
website on the same server they have to be
    separate.

Application Name: System Center Service Manager 7.5.2905.0
Issue: This applications has a shortcut named as "Service Manager Shell" which will launch as shown in screenshot below,
The same shortcut will launch as shown in screenshot below with Sequenced Application,
Please let me know how to make this shortcut launch same as source.
    Regards,

I would check the package for any reference of the specific path to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 path. Also have you run a ProcMon trace to see where the app is looking for the files? The certificate may be pointing to the C:\Program
Files Directory rather than the App-V path..

Someone sorted out this issue by installing API 1.2 and copying the dll files to the service manager server ,service folder and replacing it with API 2.0 dll files.

We have a four server set-up where SCSM, SCDW, and sqls for both are on different servers. Also I have red that this could be a SPN problem, but this has  been worked on last week without the SPNs.

On the computer you get the "SQL Reporting Services server is currently unavailable" message please open the Internet Explorer and try to connect to the URL <a href="http:///reports">http://<NameOfReportingServer>/reports
This should open the reporting website in IE. If this isn't working you should check the proxy settings in IE. If the URL doesn't work in IE it won't work in the SCSM console as well (and vice versa).
Andreas Baumgarten | H&D International Group
Actually I can't access to the reporting website. It asks me credentials 3 times and then return a blank page. Also error message comes to the EventViewer System log with id 4 and source Security-Kerberos.
The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server "accountname".
The target name used was HTTP/"reporting services fqn". This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client.
This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using.
Ensure that the target SPN is only registered on the account used by the server.
This error can also happen if the target service account password is different than what is configured on the Kerberos Key Distribution Center for that target service.
Ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both configured to use the same password.
If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (domain.com) is different from the client domain (domain.com), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains,
or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.
I can access the website directly from the server which hosts Reporting Services.
Also I query "setspn -Q HTTP/"reporting services fqn" whit result NO SUCH SPN FOUND.

  • I can't see the Reporting Workspace in Service Manager Console PLEASE HELP

I can't see the Reporting Workspace in Service Manager Console PLEASE HELP

    Hello,
If you don't have an entry like "SQL Server Reporting Services (InstanceName)" in Windows Service Manager (Services.msc) then because SSRS service not installed on that machine. Install it, then you will see such an entry.
    Olaf Helper
This is not an SQL issue it's a SC Service Manager issue. Reporting Services is installed and running on the SQL side. The problem is that as I am now aware I cannot get the Data Warehouse Server to register in the Service Manager consoles to connect that
with the canned reports and turn on Reporting Workspace. Any thoughts?

More info:  This thread suggested that fully patching their server resolved their issue, but I can confirm my server was fully up to date with all critical, security, and updates for Server 2008 R2 SP1 through 04/2014.  I have .Net Framework
4 Client profile and Extended installed with their patches current.  I wonder if upgrading to .Net 4.5 would have prevent this?

I also found a this article that talks about deploying the .MSP without the Patchwizard.exe wrapper, so sounds like I should be good.
The *Patchwizard.exe file is just a wrapper, so if you have a tool like Configuration Manager you can use the .MSP file directly for deployment and skip deploying the executable. This is a fully supported scenario so if that better suites your needs
then feel free to deploy the update using this method instead.

  • Remove items from the Tools menu in the Service Manager console

    Hi.
I know I have see a post regarding this before, but just wanted to put it out these once again.  I'd like to remove items from the Tools menu in the Service Manager console - specifically My Notifications and Create Change Request.  This is because
the former allows a user to create notification subscriptions in incorrect Management Packs, and the latter because we are not using Change Management yet.  Does anyone have any information on how to achieve this?

    Hi David,
Thanks for your reply. I have gone through the links which you have mentioned. As per the Overview of Operations Manager 2007 R2 section in What's New & Improved in Operations Manager 2007 R2 document it is clearly mentioned the below points:
Delivers monitoring across Windows, Linux and Unix servers–all through a single console.
Extend end to end monitoring of distributed applications to any workload running on Windows, Unix and Linux platforms.
The Cisco Servers are also Windows and Linux Based.
