How to Install Win7 on a 3TB hdd using GPT

Hi!
I'd like to change the HDD of my Thinkcentre Edge 72 from the original 500GB to a 3TB HDD.
Can please somebody tell me, how I can install the original Win7 Pro levnovo version (with the recovery DVDs) back on the new HDD (partitioned in GPT)?
Many thanks in advance!
Bye
Chris

I thought I would post a reply to this older thread as there is a new tip released from our engineering that might apply.  I don't believe capacity points of the drive are a key factor here as much as GPT not working with Win 7 and the recovery DVDs.
The system is installed with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.  When using the Recovery disc set to restore the system to the factory-default settings, when selecting the GUID Partition Table (GPT) partition style, the system cannot be restarted after the Recovery process finishes.  As a result, the system cannot be restored to the factory-default settings.
This happens because the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) of the system does not support the GPT partition style on the Windows 7 operating system.  To solve this issue, select the Master Boot Record (MBR) partition style to restore the computer to factory-default settings.
Best regards,
Mark

  • [s205] How to install Win7 x64 from scratch on a new hdd?

    Hello,
I have a little problem to solve...
I own a s205. My hard drive died. I replaced it with a new one. After that I tried to install Win7 x64. During the install it created 2 small partitions. It was strange to me, I saw it for the first time. Later I read that this is because of UEFI.
Anyway, everything installed good, but after installing drivers I encountered few problems. Neither of net card were working. I started to look for some informations and I know that the problem is UEFI.
My question - can anyone write a guide how to install Win7 x64 on s205 in Legacy mode, so everything would work like before? Unfortunately I don't have any rescue dvds or any other source of Lenovos images.
    Regards,
    Daniel

I know this is very old but I’m trying to clean up old posts. Did you ever solve this? If so it would be good if you could post the solution to assist others. If not, at this
stage, as nobody has answered, I would recommend that you call Intune support.
You will find your local Intune support number here

    I need some recomendations plz.

    Hello,
you don't need OS X install-disk, but I strongly recomend to burn a Win 7 disk. You may have some problems with installing it from a USB Flash :)

  • How to install ios6 apps on ios5,  iam using ipad1

how to install ios6 apps on ios5,  iam using ipad1

You don't.  You need to get iOS 5 compatible Apps.  You can however try to get older compatible versions of apps that currently require iOS6.
Download the App you want to a computer running iTunes or an Apple device that can support the new version using the Apple ID from your iPad.
Then go to the Purchased tab in the App Store App and look for the App there.  You'll get a prompt that the App is not compatible, but it should offer to download a compatible version.

  • How to install Win7 on Satellite C870-190?

Hi, I hope I post in the right forum category so...
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite C870-190 and it doesnt want to boot my windows 7 CD.
I tried first with DEL button which open the boot system when I start the notebook and then chose the CD-ROM device and don't want to load the CD and then I chose from F2 the first device on boot section to be the CD-ROM, still don't want to load it..... the final solution I tried to install it from the Windows 8 (current OS) from my computer -> cd-rom -> setup.exe, then click on INSTALL.
My laptop doesnt let me to install it even from Windows.... on the screen say copying files..... and then it give me an error which say the operation failed.... what's going on with this laptop?
How can I format my HDD and then install windows 7?
    Thanks

At the start I must say that I hope you have created recovery media (DVD or USB) before you have started to install Win7.
Back to your Win7 installation. Long time ago Ive installed Win7 on friends U940 and the first step was changing secure boot mode in BIOS settings - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2C03F80002R01.htm
After doing this Win7 installation has started properly but in my case SATA driver load was necessary.
Please check this at first and send some feedback.

  • Installing Win7 on a macbook pro using a mac mini as external optical drive

    hi everyone,
My 2 year old son watches movies on my macbook pro. He stuck something in the optical drive making it unusable. Repairing it is 200 to 300 euros (ouch).
I want to install win7 via bootcamp and I'm using my mac mini (october 2009) as an external optical drive. These are my steps:
1.hold the "t" on the mac mini
2.connect it to the macbook with a firewire 800 to firewire 400 cable
3.Power up and hold the "alt" on the macbook
4.I see the optical drive on the boot screen and I choose it
5.Then I get a blank screen and a few seconds later the "missing operating system" message appears.
Am I missing something? Is it possible to install win7 using a mac mini as an external drive?
PS1:I already have partitioned the HD with bootcamp.
PS2:I've upgraded the hard disk drive of the macbook with a seagate momentus 500GB hard disk. Don't think this is the problem, thought I should mentioned it.

    Hi Mike,
For reference it is called "IP over Firewire".
Connect the two computers with a fire wire cable. System Preferences > Network > Configure IPv4: > Manually > IP address: 192.168.3.1 (and .2 on other) > Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0. Leave the other fields blank. Do this on both computers on the computer you want to allow access to or both for two way access go to System Preference > Sharing > Select a service to change its settings. Turn remote Login on.
On the MBP go to the Finder Menu > Go > Connect to Server > Type in the IP address of the Mini 192.168.3.2 (Whatever you gave it)
With this configuration you still have full use of the Mini and certain apps can use Xgrid and use the processor of the mini when it is not doing anything. I would keep the Mini as 10.4 unless you really need both machines running Leopard. As noted before you cannot boot the MBP from a HDD that is Apple Partition Scheme and vice versa you cannot boot the PPC from a Guide Partition Table.
    Sweet Polly

  • I have Macbook Pro 13" mid 20012. How to install Windows 8 onto the mac using DVD? 10.8.3

    the title says it all.
i have windows 8 DVD and i would like to have a clear instructions on how to install windows 8. I dont understand the need for USB

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You need a USB drive to install the Windows support software. It contains all the drivers that your MacBook Pro needs, and you will have to install them after finishing the Windows installation. If you don't install them, a lot of things won't work: the wireless card, the sound card, the brightness, the trackpad gestures... Apart from that, you don't need it for anything else.
Apple has released the official steps to install Windows 8 on a Mac, so if you want, print this PDF > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

  • How to Install an APO Livecache on Windows Using Virtual Host Names

    Hi,
How to Install Live Cache on windows using Virtual Host names?
we are using SCM 4.0 with  live cache build 7.4.3 on two differnt servers.
I have checked the Live cache CD (7.4.3) is with setup.cmd, where as it need use command sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=Virtual hostname.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Anil

a possible workaround (that I have no tested) is to temporarily name your server with the same of the virtual name, install. when completed, rename server to original name.
This is not a proven method, but it might work.

  • How to install os x in new HDD

Hello.I am from India and have bought my macbook pro around 1 and a half year ago.Now my hard disk crashed and bought a new one.So how would i install os x on it without disk.As old HDD is not working and i have downloaded os x from mac app store..Please help
My old HDD is not working at all so how would i download mountain lion from another machine (with my appleid) and install it in my new HDD

At some point it will ask you to select a WiFi network name, if you have WiFi, and the password for it or you can Wire the Mac to your internet router with an Ethernet cable.
If you have no internet access at all you are, what they call, SOL. You'll need to get an internet connection to reinstall OS X.

  • How to Install OS X To New HDD?

    Hi,
I just bought a new SATA 500GB Seagate HDD and want to replace my current primary HDD, which is the default HDD for Mac Pro.
But how am i going to install an OS X into a blank HDD?
I need a step by step instruction which could direct me how.
Is it the same way to install OS X 10.5 Leopard into a blank hdd?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I admit it's been awhile since I added HDs to my MacPro.
As I remember I didn't got any message as to how to proceed with the new HD.
I booted my MP from the original internal HD and then used Disk Utility to prepare the new HD.
    1. Run Disk Utility
    2. choose the new HD from the left pane
    3. choose Erase-Tab, click on Options to ensure that GUID partition scheme is set
    4. choose HFS+ as file system
    5. choose Erase to start the process
when you want to partition the new HD
    5. choose Partition-Tab
    6. choose number of partitions, size of each partition and file system
    7. choose Partition to start the process
When you want to start your MP from the OSX-DVD 1 you must hold down the 'C'-key at startup and have the OSX-DVD in the drive.
    Regards

  • How to install WD hard drive 3TB onto my new mac?

    Hi there,
I have purchased a 3TB WD external hard drive for my new mac:
    Software OSx 10.8.2
    Processor 2.6GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 8GB
After the first few steps of installing it, it bugs and the last window says:
I have tried to contact WD directly, and they are pretty much ignoring me.
Next i have looked around their website on their forums and F&Q and it seems that there is a need for some kind of formatting of my computer to be able to read a hard drive of more than 2 TB.
    Can you help me out?

I'm not sure how it would have copied anything from your hard drive unless you told it to; in any case, if it did, then yes, the external hard drive will be erased if you use the erase tab. You will lose the content of the external drive, but since you have not backed it up, I would not worry about that. You do not need the software the drive came with.
The software on that external hard drive will occupy some of it; as I said, you do not need it. When I purchase a new hard drive, I immediately erase and format the drive. I usually choose the Partition tab, choose 1 or more partitions, name them, make sure they are Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and GUID partition scheme (under Options) and hit apply. At that point, I get a popup telling me that this will erase the drive and I click ok.
After you have formatted it, you can then decide what/how you want to use for a backup.

    Hello!
I'm no good at Linux, there muste be better people coming along later, just two questions:
Doubt VIA (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=610&kind=1 ), have support for Linux? Check http://www.viaarena.com!
Everything is alright in BIOS, SATA enabled and so on?

  • How to install 10.5 if erased HDD with 10.4?

I wanted to install 10.4 fresh so I erased the HDD with a program I use on my PC all the time to do fresh installs of XP (formats the drive). I stupidly thought the 10.4 disk that came with my mac was a full install. I soon found out that wasn't true. I decided to go buy 10.5 not just for the upgrade but to have a disc to use if I ever needed to reinstall the OS. Well, turns out that doesn't want to install either. The only thing that happens when I put it in is a screen comes up saying there's no bootable device or CD and to press any key when there is one. Pressing anything on the computer doesn't work. I now realize that it's not a full version like I thought it was (I asked the guy at the counter if it would install without 10.4 and he said yes. Now I can't return it because it's software).
Can anyone give me any advice on what to do? I don't have another mac or an iPod so any ideas with those are out of the question. Thanks for reading.

    Welcome to the Forum!
It sounds like you bought an upgrade version of Leopard rather than the standard installation disc. Yet, the guy at the counter led you to believe it was the latter. If that has turned out not to be the case take it back and get him to confirm that you have purchased on his advice the wrong disc for your system. I am surprised though as there should be a clear distinction between upgrade and install discs.
