How to install Win7 on Satellite C870-190?

Hi, I hope I post in the right forum category so...
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite C870-190 and it doesnt want to boot my windows 7 CD.
I tried first with DEL button which open the boot system when I start the notebook and then chose the CD-ROM device and don't want to load the CD and then I chose from F2 the first device on boot section to be the CD-ROM, still don't want to load it..... the final solution I tried to install it from the Windows 8 (current OS) from my computer -> cd-rom -> setup.exe, then click on INSTALL.
My laptop doesnt let me to install it even from Windows.... on the screen say copying files..... and then it give me an error which say the operation failed.... what's going on with this laptop?
How can I format my HDD and then install windows 7?
Thanks

At the start I must say that I hope you have created recovery media (DVD or USB) before you have started to install Win7.
Back to your Win7 installation. Long time ago Ive installed Win7 on friends U940 and the first step was changing secure boot mode in BIOS settings - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2C03F80002R01.htm
After doing this Win7 installation has started properly but in my case SATA driver load was necessary.
Please check this at first and send some feedback.

  • [s205] How to install Win7 x64 from scratch on a new hdd?

    Hello,
I have a little problem to solve...
I own a s205. My hard drive died. I replaced it with a new one. After that I tried to install Win7 x64. During the install it created 2 small partitions. It was strange to me, I saw it for the first time. Later I read that this is because of UEFI.
Anyway, everything installed good, but after installing drivers I encountered few problems. Neither of net card were working. I started to look for some informations and I know that the problem is UEFI.
My question - can anyone write a guide how to install Win7 x64 on s205 in Legacy mode, so everything would work like before? Unfortunately I don't have any rescue dvds or any other source of Lenovos images.
    Regards,
    Daniel

  • How to Install Win7 on a 3TB hdd using GPT

    Hi!
I'd like to change the HDD of my Thinkcentre Edge 72 from the original 500GB to a 3TB HDD.
Can please somebody tell me, how I can install the original Win7 Pro levnovo version (with the recovery DVDs) back on the new HDD (partitioned in GPT)?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Bye

I thought I would post a reply to this older thread as there is a new tip released from our engineering that might apply.  I don't believe capacity points of the drive are a key factor here as much as GPT not working with Win 7 and the recovery DVDs.
The system is installed with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.  When using the Recovery disc set to restore the system to the factory-default settings, when selecting the GUID Partition Table (GPT) partition style, the system cannot be restarted after the Recovery process finishes.  As a result, the system cannot be restored to the factory-default settings.
This happens because the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) of the system does not support the GPT partition style on the Windows 7 operating system.  To solve this issue, select the Master Boot Record (MBR) partition style to restore the computer to factory-default settings.

  • How to install WXP on Satellite P500?

    High @ all,
I have an P500 F1J with Win7 pre-installed. The Point is, that I still have a lot of elderly hardware wich i still want to use. Eg my printer. but when ever I want to use it my Notebook crashes with a bluescreen.
So i decided to install Win XP and want to format the system. But when I even try to start the sytem with the original XP-CD it runs always into a bluescreen without the chance to select anything or event type something in.
Does anybody has an idea how can I delete the win7-installation and install my stable XP?
Thanks for your help in advance

    > oh my goodness, is there really no driver for this modell in XP available?
No , because it supports Windows 7 only.
Why do you need this old OS? Windows 7 is also very fast and the future.
Furthermore there is a compatible mode for applications they require Windows XP. In my opinion there is no reason for still using Windows XP.

  • "Load Driver" error while installing Win7 on Satellite C665

My hard drive in my laptop died on me, so I got a new hard drive (Solid State) and am installing Windows 7 on it on my Toshiba (Satellite C665 model PSC55A)
I don't seem to be alone in encountering this error: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now." However everyone seems to get it for different reasons and I've tried multiple things.
The first obvious one: Use the disk I got with the laptop. I've moved houses since I bought the laptop. Looked through every box in the house and and I think it may be lost to oblivion.
The next most obvious: Load the drivers from the Toshiba support. Tried that. Doesn't work. Not sure why, but I downloaded the drivers from Toshiba, extracted them, put them on a USB. In "Install Windows" in sees a list of all the drivers. I attempt to install all of them, it goes through them all. At the end of it it still doesn't work.
The next: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. I read it would work, so I attempted it, and it didn't.
I've also read BIOS, "Disable AHCI mode for your disk controller in the system BIOS", I'm not the greatest so I may not have gotten this step right, but the only time I found AHCI in the BIOS I couldn't change it to IDE or ATA as was suggested, I could only change it to "Compatibility"
Thank you for your help, I hope I don't sound too hopeless.

    >I found AHCI in the BIOS I couldn't change it to IDE or ATA as was suggested, I could only change it to "Compatibility"
This is right.. you can switch the SATA mode to AHCI or compatible mode.
In AHCI mode the notebook requires the SATA driver in order to see the HDD or SSD drive. In compatible mode the HDD/SSD drive should be visible while system installation but the HDD/SSD drive would operate in IDE mode means the HDD/SSD drive would be slower.
But as I understood the posting, youve got problems with CD/DVD drive. Is this correct?
This really strange because the Windows Setup doesnt need any ODD (optical disk drive) drivers the installation setup contains common CD/DVD drive which controls the disk drive.
I read in other forums that this problem could be related to faulty Windows installation disk. It would be interesting to know if you can use another disk to install the system
I found also this MS knowledge base article:
[A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" or "A media driver your computer needs is missing" error message when you install Windows|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2755139]
The reasons for that might be:
The installation DVD is removed during the setup process.
A low-quality DVD was used to create the installation DVD.
The speed at which the installation DVD was burned was too fast.
The DVD drive cannot read the media.
    The ISO file is corrupted.

  • How to install Vista on Satellite A300 without recovery disk?

Please I'm in desperate need of help,
My brother purchased new Toshiba A300-23E in Saudi Arabia. He has little knowledge of computers.
It was on the display threre.
He sent it to my father in Pakistan but soon noticed that it was full of virues and he fresh installed Windows xp SP2 after formating hard drive.
He gave that to me for fixing the problem. As it is designed for windows vista. I want to install windows vista but i havent got the recovery disk or any operating disk.
How am i suppose to install windows vista?
Somebody told me that i download vista trail version and enter the key which is on the back of my laptop.
    Anybody having any idea. plz

    > He sent it to my father in Pakistan but soon noticed that it was full of virues and he fresh installed Windows xp SP2 after formating hard drive.
This was a big mistake buddy
The recovery disk was not shipped with the notebook because there was an preinstalled tool called Toshiba recovery disk creator which allows you to create an own recovery disk.
But this is not possible since the HDD has been formatted and all files have been deleted.
Now you would not be able to recover the unit even using the HDD recovery since the files are not available on HDD.
You need a recovery disk and you can order it from here:

  • How to install XP in Satellite A300-1BI with Vista

    Hi,
Few days ago I bought a Satellite A300-1BI with Windows Vista preinstalled. I don't like this OS and I want to degrade to Windows XP and install too my Ubuntu Linux distribution but I can't install no one from them because the hard disk appears as "not connected" on the XP and Ubuntu installation men... It seems like the laptop is made ONLY for Vista, and I think is... pathetic...
Someone can help me? I tried to search information on web, forums, etc, but it seems I'm the only one with this problem.
    Thanks!

Sorry estemon but I cannot believe what you wrote here. This is most asked question in last one year and you can find so many threads here with the same question. In just one minute I found, for example, this one http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=35787
It is about Satellite Pro but the principle is the same.
Check please Satellite A category on this forum and you will find answer to your question.

  • Re: Trying to install Win7 on Satellite L350D

    Hi guys
I have a Toshiba Satellite L350D and I am trying to install the Windows7 again cause the screen went black so I decided to format and install everything again but when its finishing the installation the laptop reboots but the screen continues black :(
    Any clews?
Can I do a BIOS update without having Windows working and should this sort it out my problem?
    Best regards
    Luis

If you have recovery disc you can install original image later. Now is important to have well working OS. For this purposes you can use Microsoft installation disc and later install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities from Toshiba support page. I have done this several times on different Toshiba notebooks and every time everything went well.
Back to your original question: it is not easy to say why the screen stays black. You know that after OS installation notebook may restart several times to finish OS installation and prepare desktop for the first use.
Maybe is some external device connected to your notebook? Please disconnect all connected stuff and try installation again.
Before you start it set BIOS to default settings. It must work somehow.
    Good luck.

  • This is a solution - How to install XP on Satellite L40

NOTE: you will need a license for XP Pro SP2(it should work with Sp1 and Home, but runs better on Pro SP2)!
First download and install nLite. http://www.nliteos.com/download.html (Requires .NET Framework 2.0, you can download the .NET Framework from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en
Now download and extract the slipstream drivers http://files.soulpass.com/acer/slipstream_drivers.zip to a folder like C:\Drivers-temp\
Insert your WinXP install disk, cancel out of the autorun if it pops up.
Start up nLite, click next on the splash screen. Tell it where your CD is. It will ask you to tell it where to cache the files at. You can just use a folder like C:\XP-temp\ for that.
On the Presets screen, click Next again. Now click on the Drivers button, as well as the "Bootable ISO" button, then click "Next"
On the Drivers screen, click Insert, then Multiple Driver Folder. Point nLite to the location where you extracted the slipstream drivers, such as C:\Drivers-temp\ and then click OK.
On the Select multiple drivers to integrate window you'll need to highlight the path at the top (such as C:\Drivers-temp\) by clicking on it once, then click OK.
On the Driver Integration Options window under Textmode integration options highlight the whole list by clicking once on the top item, then shift-clicking once on the bottom item. With that list still highlighted, click OK at the bottom.
Back on the Drivers screen, click Next. The Apply Changes: dialog should pop up, asking if you really want to start the process. Click Yes.
After the processing completes, you'll need to click "Next", at which point youâ'll be taken to the final screen.
On the "Bootable ISO" screen, change the "Mode" drop down menu from "Create Image" to "Direct Burn". Eject your WinXP disk, and insert a blank disk into your burner. For safety's sake, put a check mark next to "Verify".
    Finally, click Burn.
Congratulations, you now have a proper install disk for any Toshiba laptop with S-ATA hdd(actually you can use it on any pc/laptop with S-ATA hdd).
Now you'll need to boot your laptop from that disk. In order to be able to boot from the CD, we'll first need to make a couple of quick changes in the notebooks BIOS. In the BIOS you need to make sure that the first boot device is the DVD-RW drive.
NOTE: Make sure to back up all your data before proceding, since the next step will erase everything.
Reboot the laptop with your new XP cd inserted, after it gets started, windows installer will ask you where you'd like to install Windows XP to: follow the prompts to delete all the current partitions, then follow the prompts to create a new partition, and install Windows XP to that. You can chose the "Quick Format" to speed things up.
Follow the rest of the prompts to windows in the usual fashion.
This solution was originally made for an another manufacturer notebook but I have just filled in where it regards Toshiba.
    http://soulpass.com/2007/11/10/installing-windows-xp-professional-sp2-on-acer-aspire-5315-2153-laptop/
You will need the drivers for your systeme ready when XP finish installing, so make sure to download them before starting on all this, and make a CD so you can use them again. Most Intel chipsets has driver for XP on Intels homepage.
Regarding Atheros then you can find drivers here: http://www.atheros.cz/
Many of the drivers from Toshiba's Vista driver package will work on XP, just read the inf file or readme file.
If you have any questions then let me know.
    Regards

  • How to install Win7 if iMac's DVD drive is dead?

I recently replaced the hard drive in my 2006 iMac and am starting fresh with Snow Leopard.  The problem is at some point the DVD drive stopped reading DVDs and will only read CDs...(???)  So when I go through the Boot Camp Assistant it can't read from the internal DVD drive.  I've tried the Windows disc in an external USB DVD drive and also in the DVD drive of my new MacBook Pro in Target Disk Mode.
The problem is Boot Camp Assistant never recognizes the disc.  I can attempt to boot from the Windows disc from inside the MBP by holding option at startup, but it goes nowhere.
So how can I get Boot Camp working with a:
burned DVD of a Windows 7 download (valid license)
2006 iMac Core Duo with broken DVD drive
external IDE DVD drive connected with USB to IDE bridge
2011 MacBook Pro and a Firewire cable.
    Help?

Why not get the drive repaired, things will be much easier.

  • How to install wireless on a Satellite 5200-903?

Due to a very bad virus I recovered Windows on a Satellite 5200-903 of a friendly businessman. But back home he saw: no wireless LAN could be used... It seems, that cause the WLAN-switch was "off" no WLAN-driver was installed/recovered...
Now he wants to come to me again tomorrow or the day after tomorrow - and I MUST know, how to install everything until then... he also will bring me his router, so I can configure everything for him on the notebook AND router (WPA, if possible).
But I found TWO drivers: one was a direct download of a small file of "Agere" - wlesslan-xp-7620390.zip
The other is from "Atheros", and the download is a links to another website "Toshiba EMEA - Wireless LAN Driver Portal" http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads , where I have to identify the WLAN adapter... But: on the first download-site (I mean BEFORE redirected to "Toshiba EMEA") there is at the list "Model" NOT any Satellite 5200.
Which driver is correct? Are there different WLAN-adapters in the 5200-903 series? Is it possible to find out the adapter model BEFORE he gives me the Notebook?
And in the list of drvers for the 5200-903 there was a download "WLAN hotkey" wlkey-xp-2003.zip ? Do I need that too? Do I need any other things?
And does such an "older" WLAN-Access work in another way than the integrated WLAN of a centrino e.g. ? I just know how to log into a WLAN with newer notebooks: button "wireless networks" on the right buttom oft windows, then chose the WLAN name to connect and type in the key, if needed.
Please help me, he lives 100 miles away from me and has not much time, he comes again to me just for that matter, and of course he was not amused when he returned home and couldn't connect to the internet... and he's an ABSOLUTE noob in technical things, so I cannot tell him how to do it on his own and need your help quickly.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello Herb
I just want to make the whole story short and simply. After installing OS install drivers for hardware components. According the notebook specification for Satellite 5200-903 it is WLAN ready model and I do not know which WLAN card is inside. You friend should have info about that.
If there is Atheros WLAN card the right driver you can find HERE
After driver installation install all Toshiba designed tools and utilities starting with COMMON MODULES. It must be installed at first. WLAN-hotkey utility is important because using FN+F8 key combination you can enable/disable WLAN card.
WLAN software (Atheros WLAN client utility) is not necessary because for WLAN you can use WXP WLAN settings. You can use it if the WLAN card is activated properly.
So I hope you will set WLAN properly and if you need more assistance please write again.
    Bye and good luck!
