How to install Windows 7 in Mavericks on my Mac mini Late 2009.

After I upgraded to Mavericks from Lion, I can't edit info.plist file to enable the 'Create Windows bootable USB flash drive' feature in Boot Camp 5.1. Who can help me, please?

  • How to install windows xp on bootcamp on new Mac mini?

How can i install windows xp on bootcamp on new Mac mini?
I know that i should get an external usb optical drive, but buying such hardware for one use is a waste of money. Is there any other method?
I currently own a MacBook white, and really like the configuration. I it possible to copy the image of bootcamp to new mac mini? If so, what will happen to hardware and drivers?

    Let me get this right:
1- copy the exact image of the winxp installation dc to USB
2- start bootcamp assistant, go through everything, till rebooting
3- boot from USB (hold ALT and select the USB volume)
4- go through winxp setup and done!
    Am I missing anything?
I think that USB would be readable only on Mac os or winxp, but will the winxp installer read from USB?
    Correct me if wrong.
Having read further websites, I am now a bit more dubious you can do this, at least with an XP installer.
However if you have a USB memory stick and an existing Windows computer (even a Boot Camp one) or can borrow one you could try using the free WinToFlash utility to make a supposedly bootable USB memory stick of the installer. See http://wintoflash.com/overview/en/
The problem is XP predates EFI firmare and XP only really knows BIOS firmware. As such (supposedly) XP would have problems booting from a USB device fully - it might lose connection part way through. Windows Vista and 7 do support EFI firmware.
The other approach I mentioned of temporarily moving the hard disk from the Mini to the MacBook so you can use the MacBook internal CD/DVD drive would work - be careful of the cables. Fortunately a new Mac mini and an old MacBook are two of the easier models to get at the hard disk. See http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook-Core-2-Duo-Hard-Drive-Replacement/514/1 (they also list other MacBook models) and http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-Mac-Mini-Mid-2011-Hard-Drive-Replacement/ 6422/1
Regardless of which method you try, the first step would be on the Mac mini to run Boot Camp Assistant and to create the partition for Windows. Then via either method try booting from a Windows XP installer.
As I have taken Macs apart many times, I personally might go the swapping the hard disk over route.

  • Can I install windows home server 2011 on a mac mini?

    Hey guys and girls...
Can I install windows home server 2011 on a mac mini? If so how?

WHS is 64-bit. Genius are really not versed in Boot Camp or Windows, let alone anything not on the "approved" list of Windows versions.
Most of the problems are with burning ISO, or the SuperDrive. It should have seen the NTFS partition. Disk Utility is known to be trouble, burning it on your Mac Mine but iwth Windows 7....?
Seeing you have Windows 7, format the partition to NTFS 160GB you want and then exit and boot WHS installer.
Or run the install from Windows 7.
In past, WHS supported TimeMachine, streaming video, supported iTunes (that was broken/disabled it seems by Apple with 10.0), as well as even SuperDuper backups.
Main idea is to have some network attached drives.
    Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra2 Review
Newegg - HP StorageWorks X310 Windows Home Server
I have both a ISO and Burned it to a dvd useing windows 7 built in ISO burning software, Its a 64 bit copy (got from microsoft download website from my dads microsoft account).
It is enouth for the OS but it runs slowish on the mac mini (latest core 2 duo 2.4ghz model) The Idea was to have it backup my pc and laptop to a usb drive and act as a media centre pc (connected to av receaver and tv and on a gigabit network with a 2TB nas)
Since it looks like this may not work, whats the best way to make it into a media centure? mac osx? windows 7? plex? whats best and good?
I'd avoid USB like the plague. Why not use your PC instead? If I was going to use a Mini for WHS, I'd just use the Mini solely for Windows and not have OS X (you can boot OS X off an external drive anyway).

  • Install Windows 7 on a Mid 2010 Mac mini using USB or SD media?

Is is possible to install Windows 7 on a Mid 2010 Mac mini using USB or SD media?  I have not figured this out.  Here's what I have observed:
I can install OS X Lion using USB or SD media. Both are detected in the boot menu, and will boot.
An SD card with Windows 7 installation files formatted MBR/FAT32 using diskpart appears (with an SD card icon) in the boot menu but when selected as a boot device, the boot fails and the existing OS X instance on the Macintosh HD starts.  A USB stick formatted as described does not appear in th boot menu at all.
An SD card or a USB stick formatted as described will boot on a Mid 2011 MacBook Air, and can be used to install Windows 7.
Is this due to EFI differences between a Mid 2010 Mac mini and a Mid 2011 MacBook Air?
    Thanks.

The Mac Mini Mid 2010 has a DVD player built in, you can startup and install from a Windows 7 DVD. The Mac Mini Mid 2011 does not have a DVD player built in. I am happy that in new computers I can make use of an USB-stick to install Windows 7. Windows 7 uses MBR and Mac OS X uses EFI and that is why it was not possible on a Mac Mini Mid 2010. I think the EFI on a Mac Mini Mid 2011 is different.
I should like a firmware update on my Mac Mini Mid 2010 if possible. In that case I could choose between DVD or USB stick if I want to install Windows 7.
I also have a FireWire CF Card Reader. I think it is not possible to install Windows 7 via FireWire too.
I do have an external USB HD with 2 partitions: Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7, but is is not possible to start up Windows 7 from the external HD.  It is possible to start up Mac OS X 10.6.8 from the external HD on a Mac Mini Mid 2010.

  • Problem installing Windows 8 via Bootcamp on MacBook Pro 13 (late 2009).

    Hello,
I've installed Windows 8 Pro on my MacBook Pro 13 (Late 2009) which does not support Windows 8. I've started installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp, then interupted the installation and pluged-in the Windows 8 Disk, and after formating the partition, I've installed Windows 8 64-Bit.
Here is the problem. The Windows works fine, BUT after restart when I hold 'Alt' and choose EFI Boot (Windows 8's partition), Windows 8 starts loading but then suddenly there is a white flash and it restarts again. So after shut down or restart I cannot boot it.
Do you think that this is because I do not have Bootcamp installed on the Windows 8?
I've downloaded the supported software for Windows 8, but when I click setup.exe, it is giving me the following error:
This version of Bootcamp is not intended for this computer model. I've been trying to install it for more than 78 hours, so I'll be extremely gratefull to whoever help me. Thank you in advance.
P.S. Mac OS X partition boots fine.

If it is really not possible, I get it. But there are plenty of people that are running Windows 8 on the same model, that is powerfull enough to run Win 8. I'm actually running it, but until shut down or restart . Can't I edit Info.plst file alternative for Windows 8 like I did to allow BootCamp to image burn my USB on my model? I mean my model is same as the next one. I can't see why the drivers for mid 2010, won''t work on mine...

  • Trying to install windows 7 64 bit on a mac mini

I'm trying to install windows 7 64 bit on a mac mini, via boot camp. Install hangs at about 10% while files are being loaded from windows disc. I'm using an LG USB 2.0 Super-Multi DVD Burner. What's the fix for this.

Check this out: Boot Camp- Macs that work with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7

  • HT3986 Mac mini later 2009-- can i install windows 7 -64 bit on it?

    hi there,
can i install dual system on mac mini later 2009?
    windows 7 32bit or 64 bit?
    thanks

Although I have the "Early" 2009 mini, I believe they're close enough.
I have a dual system installed. Mac OS X Mountain Lion and Windows 7 64 bit. I have 8GB of RAM.
You should be aware though that Apple does not officially support the 64 bit version of Windows 7 on this machine, although it seems to be working for the most part using Boot Camp 4.0 drivers.
My only complaint is about the nForce Ethernet Driver. There seems to be some problem with it. Whenever the nVidia Control Panel for video is launched, there is an error reported:
The ethernet itself appears to be working fine using some driver dated back to 2010. While I can go to nVidia's website and locate an updated driver for the GeForce 9400 GPU, I cannot seem to find one for the nForce Ethernet. Honestly, I am not even interested in the Network Control panel, but I get another error when I try to uninstall it.
Would be nice is this could be fixed. Windows 7 32 bit didn't have this issue but I want to run the 64 bit version so I can see all of my RAM.

  • How do I remove a disk from my mac mini (late 2009)?

I am trying to regain my mac mini (late 2009) which came with OS X Snow Leopard.  WHY?   Because, after spending quite a few bucks, I have tried and failed to find a suitable substitute for APPLEWORKS.  (I still have the disk)
I erased the Mac Mini's memory, so it is blank READY FOR me to install Snow Leopard. I still have 10.6.3 install disks.
    HA HA.   That's a laugh.
    1) After I put it in the MM,& started it up using my 10.6.3 install disk. The install app told me I couldn't install this system on this computer.  WHY WHY?
    2) Now I have a 10.6.3 disk stuck in the MM and I don't know how to get it out.
    Anybody PLEASE PLEASE !!
(Normally I use a MM (mid 2011) but I want this other MM available to me.)

Dear Allan,  Very interesting solutions to a stuck disk.  I'm going to keep it for future.
I finally did get my disk out - because I started up using my Mtn.Lion BU (it's a Firewire) which I connected to my old MM late 2009.  There she was & I ejected it.
And I did finally get my MM  2009 working again with Snow Leopard - with the great help from ds store.
So now I have my Appleworks back too.   YAH!

After I upgraded to Mavericks from Lion, I can't edit info.plist file to enable the 'Create Windows bootable USB flash drive' feature in Boot Camp 5.1. Who can help me, please?

I've been trying. I've created a USB bootable drive with Bootcamp, and I am still getting "No Bootable Device."
    This is annoying.
I've read so many things. From "If you don't have an Optical Drive, can only do it from USB." to "You need an Optical Drive."
My computer is the newest Mac Mini with zero Optical Drive. So USB is the only option. Still Stuck. Still Sad. Still Wondering.

  • Want to be sure it's OK to install Windows XP Home on my New Mac mini

Last night I bought the Mac mini with DVD SuperDrive, 120GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and Leopard. At the Apple Store. Got an adapter so I can hook the mini up to my 23" Cinema Display (1998 vintage). Also got Fusion.
At another electronics store, I got Windows XP Home. I want to be sure the "home" version is OK on the mini. I have Windows XP Pro on a Dell laptop, but it came pre-installed, and I don't have a copy. I am told the Dell version wouldn't work on the mini anyway.
I got the mini because I rely on Adobe FrameMaker to make my living. Adobe has chosen not to upgrade Frame for Mac OS X, so I've been using it in Classic mode on my G4 Cube (currently running OS X, v 10.4.11). But Frame is seriously misbehaving now, and Apple no longer supports OS 9 Classic, even though it's associated with OS X. So my brilliant solution to the Adobe Frame problem is to RUN the Windows version of FrameMaker 7.2 (which I own) on the mini in Windows.
I'm looking for advice, if any, about what to do first, second, etc. And an answer about Windows XP Home being OK.
BTW, I have skimmed through this forum about 20 pages, and it's great. --Spot

That is a very good question, Dino, and I don't know the answer. This thread doesn't seem to be getting much attention and you might have better luck posting your question at the boot camp forum. I'm sure one of the veteran members will have an answer for you any time now.
Of course you could experiment and just try installing it; if your computer is relatively then it's not a big deal; you can back up your files on a flash drive and reconfigure you machine quickly. Reinstalling OSX takes awhile if you FUBAR your mini but I've done it once already. Still I wouldn't recommend anything that risky until you've got an answer from someone who knows.

  • Can i install Windows 8.1 on a 27 inch, iMac late 2009 model? Is this supported by Apple?

Hello, before i start this endeavour is it supported by Apple to install Windows 81. on a late 2009 iMac 27 inch model? I get confused by all posts out there including on Apple's website. I'm happy to try it out but want to be sure that if i create a second partition for windows, my primary partion with MAC-OS does not get impacted in any way.
    Thanks,

  • How do I restore Mac Mini late 2009 to factory settings. Error occurs.

I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 2.26 ghz core and 2 GB memory running Lion 10.7.4. I wish to restore my computer to factory settings but when I put in my Snow Leopard disc I continue to get an error message that reads "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X. You have Install Mac OS X 23.1.1."
I wish to restore my Mac to Snow Leopard and then redownload Lion from the App Store and start fresh with 10.7.4 on my restored Mac but I am finding it incredibly difficult.

You might have to erase the Drive first, but did you try reinstalling Lion from the Restore Partition?
    Hold CMD+r keys at bootup?
    Otherwise...
      1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
       3. Click the Erase tab.

  • How can i share folders at Mac mini late 2009 with Apple Tv 3?

I'm using Mac mini 2009 and I can't share any folder with Apple tv 3...anyone managed to get a way to do so, so far?

I have a WLAN at home conneting Mac mini (late 2009), PS3 slim and xbox 360 in the living room and I would love to share whats on the Mac mini with AT3 in the guest room upstairs, physically it wont be possible to control both screens at the same times. The files I have are on external HD connected via firewire + USB to Mac mini and they are a mix of avi, mp4, mpeg etc. I'm talking about 3 TB of movies and series (its still legal here in Dubai to download ;-)). starting to convert such amount of files its not an option. AirParrot is a good option when I have media stored on my MacBook pro and would like to play it no AT3 but I used Beamer it works great for such function.
    any ideas folks ?
