How to install Windows 7 on 3 new Macs?

Hi.
I have three Macs I want to install Windows 7 Home Premium on. Never had Windows install on any of these Macs. This will be the first time. Which Windows 7 do I purchase?
1. Home Premium Family Pack Upgrade
2. Home Premium single use
The reason why I ask is...Isn't single use Windows 7 only allow one computer installation? However, if I get the Upgrade, then I have licenses for 3 computers, but I have to have a previous version of Windows installed for it to work...no? I'm so confused!
Z.

Robert has some ideas that truthfully, don't know where he got them.
You can upgrade the upgrade (reinstall twice) but that is stretching the limits of law. But it will activate and no, you don't have to worry about using one computer at a time.
You could buy 3 copies of System Builder @ $99 each (Newegg, Amazon, etc) in either 32 or 64-bit. Can be reinstalled on same machine but not moved to a new machine or motherboard.
There is 3-pack Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium which is what I would go with and use that on all three, as found here:
http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Home-Premium-System-Builder/dp/B002NGJO7E/
I had numerous copies of Vista, one had a free upgrade, but I used Windows 7 RC and Beta for a year and Vista was too much trouble to install. In the end, way to activate an upgrade: just install over itself again. Works fine. I've got three computers with Windows, one had two versions, and more licenses than I need or use - so I don't have any qualm, I've more than paid my dues.
I would only buy retail if you may plan to get a new Mac and reinstall again. System Builder version are what a lot of builders and users purchase.
There are some disadvantages of the upgrade packs but handy for a family with multiple PCs already running Windows.

  • I have Macbook Pro 13" mid 20012. How to install Windows 8 onto the mac using DVD? 10.8.3

    the title says it all.
i have windows 8 DVD and i would like to have a clear instructions on how to install windows 8. I dont understand the need for USB

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You need a USB drive to install the Windows support software. It contains all the drivers that your MacBook Pro needs, and you will have to install them after finishing the Windows installation. If you don't install them, a lot of things won't work: the wireless card, the sound card, the brightness, the trackpad gestures... Apart from that, you don't need it for anything else.
Apple has released the official steps to install Windows 8 on a Mac, so if you want, print this PDF > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

    1. How do I install Windows 7 on new hard drive?
    2. My laptop was pre-installed Windows 7 Pro, but all the DVD kit (Application & Drives Recivery Disc + Operating System Revocer), which was provided (by Lenovo) for the laptop is in the Windows 8 Pro. So how do I install Windows 7 Pro, in my laptop while all DVD kits are in Windows 8 Pro?

    * Note *
I plan to install Windows 7 Pro in my new hard drive using another Windows 7 DVD (Not DVD provided by Lenovo), but how do I get all the Leveno program which found within the 'Application & Drives Recivery' disc (such as ; - Lenovo System Health and Diagnostics, Lenovo Power Control,Lenovo's Fingerprint Reader) to install in that hard drive? (as I tell you before, all the DVD kit is in or only for Windows 8 Pro)
I hope somebody will help me answer my question,
    Thank You
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I got the solution;
Answer to question 1 ; using a backup & recovery software to clone my current OS, then transfer to my new hard drive.
Answer to question 2 ; download all the Drivers and software ( all the application that located on the DVD kit that I have) on Lenovo Official Website.
or other solution, send it to a computer service shop and let the experts ( the workers) install it for me ( the most simple and safe way).

  • How do I install Windows on a new Mac Mini (w/o optical drive?)

The new Mac Mini does not have an optical drive and I would like to install Windows with Parallels Desktop 6
Any ideas?  Can I put the iso on a USB drive or mount a NAS?
    Thanks for ay help!
    Enzo

You can burn an ISO of a bootable disc back to a DVD, but not to a USB device. I don't know if Parallels is able to install from an ISO, but it may install from an external drive. This is why you should read the documentation for Parallels or ask at their tech support site.

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. For Boot Camp 4.0
and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • How to install Windows XP on new iMac - Bootcamp or Parallels?

    Hi
I'm very new to the Mac world. I just purchased a lovely new iMac.
I would like to install my Windows XP Professional (SP3) on to my iMac.
I purchased Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac and before I do anything, I want to know what I should do first.
Do I install the Windows disk through bootcamp first and then install Parallels Desktop 5?
    or
Can I bypass bootcamp all together and install Windows through Parallels?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    amatxilinda

Parallels 6 comes out on the 14th.
    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/09/09/parallelsdesktop_6_for_mac_to_launch_sept_14_with_80_newfeatures.html
If you will never want to run Windows natively, then you don't need Boot Camp. Otherwise, install first on its own partition, get it setup, then Parallels, and only then activate. Or reactivate. After you have Parallels Tools installed.
Really ought to check on Parallels forum.

To get the hang of OS X, no matter level of expertise, even though Apple has their 101 Help and Switching, "Missing Manual for OS X" is excellent 900pg reference to get the most out of it.

  • How to install windows on the new SSD

I am planning to buy a SDD.
    However, how can I use my Windows Product ID for installing a new system on the SSD;
Is there any recommendations for this situation. I want to keep all lenovo functions in the new SSD.
    BTW, it is T420.
    THX!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi.
did you make the Lenovo recovery dvd set from your original factory windows installation?
    if so, then:
    - simply swap out the platter drive for the new, blank ssd.
    - make sure that your optical drive is listed first in your bios boot order.
    - boot disk #1 of the recovery disk set and follow the prompts.
    - in short order you'll have the ssd set up with "all lenovo functions" as you've described you wish.
    - you won't need the Windows key from the sticker on the bottom of your machine.
if you didn't make the set, then it'll take more work. once you've installed Windows on the ssd, you'll need to get Thinkvantage System Update from the driver matrix here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77167 and install it. you'll be able to update hardware drivers and Thinkvantage apps from it. once you've completed that, you can double check the matrix to catch anything newer than offered by TVSU.
    hth a bit.

  • How to install windows 7 in my Mac Mini

    Hello Folks,
I am having a Mac Mini (Mid 2010) model. I have Mac OS 10.9 installed. I am trying to install Windows 7 using boot camp. I am getting only 2 options in BootCamp.
    1. Download the latest Window Support software from apple.
    2. Install Windows 7
I am able to complete step 1 but when I try complete step 2, it always says "The Installer dick could not be found".
I tried with bootable pen drive but I didn't get any success, it says comes up with the same issue. When I try to insert windows 7 installer disc the disc comes out automatically.
I searched over the internet and I found there is one more option which is missing with my Book camp assistance is "create windows 7 install disk". I followed Create Windows install disk option in Lion Bootcamp? this discussion but by doing this I am not able to open boot camp. It get crash. I undo the changes from boot camp's info plist. Now I am able to start Boot Camp Assistant, but not able to install windows. I have ISO file for window 7 too.
Please help me to install windows 7.
    Thanks

Unless you have a 2010 Mini Server model, your Mini has a built-in Optical drive (Mac mini (Mid 2010) - Technical Specifications).
Can you read the Windows Installer media when booted on OSX? Your DVD media may be corrupt.
If your Optical Drive is functional AND the Windows DVD is readable in OSX Finder, then your installer should work. You will need a USB2  for BC drivers as well.

  • How to install Aperture in a new mac?

    Hi,
I've been using Aperture for a few years in my old Mac. Originaly I've downloaded Aperture 3 Trial and I've bought the license key to unlock it.
Now I've bought a new Mac, but I cannot find any place to download Aperture again and of course I don't have any backup of the original download of Aperture trial with me. I only have my license key.
Does anybody know how should I proceed?
    Thanks in advance,
    GA

    GA,
Try if this download link for the trial version still works: if yes, you can unlock it with your serial number:

P.S. If you can download it, save a copy of the installer. I am not sure, how long this link will be available.

  • How to install windows support software without mac OSX install cd?

I want to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 10.6.8 via bootcamp. I have a windows 7 install cd and I havn't got past the stage of installing the windows support software. I lost my mac osx install cd a long time ago so I can't install the software that way, but if i try and download the support software from bootcamp, I keep getting a notification that the windows support software is unavailable. What should I do?

Call Apple for replacement disks.  The Boot Camp drivers for OSX 10.6 and earlier were not available as a download.  Or upgrade to Lion, which you do download the Boot Camp 4 drivers.

  • I have CS6 on my old pc which I will remove if I can find out how to install  CS6 on my new Mac.

I bought CS6 for my pc a little over a year ago.  I just bought a Mac computer and would like to install it on the Mac.  Is there anywhere I can down load CS6 (not CC) for my Mac?

Your CS6 Windows serial number is operating system specific: it only works on Windows.
Downloading the Mac version from Download and Installation Help and entering your Windows serial number will not work.
    You have a few options:
Install Windows (Bootcamp, Parallels etc) on your Mac and install CS6 in the Windows virtual machine on your Mac
Do a platform swap to switch your Windows version to a Mac version
Order product | Platform, language swap
Buy CS6 for Mac (then you'll have a Windows serial and a Mac serial)
Join the Cloud. The CC version can be installed on Windows and/or Mac.

  • How can I install Windows on my new Mac?

This question sounds simple, but I am going nuts. I got this MacBook Pro recently, and I need Windows (to run ArcGIS 10). I know it can be done, and in fact is very common. However, I'm stuck.
    Here are the problems:
    - Only Windows 8.1 is currently available from Microsoft
    - According to Apple, 8.1 cannot be installed on a Mac
    - My download from Microsoft included only a small .exe file, not an ISO
    - I don't have a CD drive. Just an 8 gigabyte USB thumb drive.
    - I don't care what version of Windows I get. If there's some way to get 7, that's fine.
So what do I do? How do I buy a copy of Windows that will work? How do I download it so that Boot Camp can use it? Hasn't this been done millions of times? I was on the phone with Apple for over an hour, and with Microsoft three times. No one can help. Can you?
    Thanks!

your best bet is to download virtualbox and install it that way
though if it's an exe it's not a full version but and upgrade so you need to install a full version in the
    virtualbox first

  • How to install windows xp on new imac (late 2012)

I just bought new 27 IMAC (late 2012) and want to install my Windows XP. Is it possible??

I don't think so: I used Win XP on Parallels Desktop in an iMac late 2012 21'. I wanted to use video editing programs, because I have severals old video projects to finish them. I used Pinnacle Studio 9 and 12, I wanted to get out the results and it was an horror: Those programs need competent videocards and no a virtualization of anyone. So all the time I've lost editing my videos I'm afraid is lost time of my life . However, for lighter tasks, Virtual programs are appropiate to use.
I hope this information be useful for someone.
