I am new to unix.I need to connect Ultra 10 with Disk array D1000. I want to install x6541 375-0006 (VHDCI 68 pin) Dual Diff SCSI card on ultra 10.I can't find any DOC to configure this card.

Just insert the card into a slot. If the system automatically boots, login as root and issue the command devfsadm.
If it stops at the ok-prompt, issue (after attaching the D1000) the command probe-scsi-all. Does it display the disks in the D1000 ? If successful, boot the system with boot -rv (tells the Solaris that the configuration has changed and displays verbose messages during boot).
How to attach the cables and terminator to the D1000 is described in the D1000 documentation under Related Documentation.

Is there a way to tell if the system already see's it. What would I look for.

SCSI Card in Ultra-5_10

Hello All,
I have an Ultra-5_10 box. I had to order for an external storage box. The storage capacity that I am looking for is 2 * 72GB. I want to know what is the type of SCSI card the system will be having ? What is the option to find it.
From dmesg output I could find the following message. "glm0: Rev. 5 Symbios 53c875 found." From this can anybody tell what is the type of SCSI card.

That's a single channel, Single-Ended SCSI adapter.
The card will have one and only one external SCSI connector on it.
(If DMESG had reported a 53C876 chipset, then there would be two connectors.)
It would be fine for use with a disk pak.
You should be able to confirm what you have by a visual inspection.
It is a simple SCSI-only card, # 375-0097 card. [X5010A]
If you inspect the card itself, you'll find the 375-0097 part number on a barcode label.
BY the way, the "Sunswift" combo SCSI/Ethernet card does't use that 53C875 chipset.

How to install the driver for Airport card in a mini

In a post regarding trouble with wireless connections some suggested...

well I did it and now my system is telling me there is no Airport card installed. How can I reload just the Airport drivers? I have my 10.6.3 OS X disk. Can I do it with that?
I tried running Disk Permissions with no change. I have since renamed the file back to what it was. The I started getting pop ups telling me the kernel file was improperly installed.
I just don't want to reinstall my complete OS.

I've already put it back to the original file name of IO80211Family.kext. I've run disk permissions too, in fact I've run it several times.
It keeps repairing a bunch of java stuff but that's all.
I've set the permission on the file to what I believe they were before I ran the mv command.
It was after I restored the file name, that I got the popup saying it was installed incorrectly, but, it's not saying it now.
And I have rebooted too, still no Airport.
Oh, I never replaced anything with earlier version, I just renamed and renamed back.

Now i have OMNIKEY CardMan 5121 card reader with some sample cards(i dont know the type for cards), i just want to install the sample programs given along with the kit into the real card, what should i do? can i do it with tools in the kit itself or have i to use any tool?

How to install firmware onto my SD card

Hi y'all!
Running a mac with 10.8, and trying to update my SX280 HS so that the video lasts longer than four seconds. I have my SD card in my computer showing up as "CANON_DC", and I downloaded the firmware, but it won't let me drag/drop the firmware into the SD card file. Does anyone know a workaround for this? What am I doing wrong?

G-4 tower, PPC,10.4.11 and Classic 9.2. I have been trying to install a new Adptec SCSI card. From what I understand, this card should work??
I keep getting the "grey vail". The fix is to remove the PCI card.I have tried USB and network PCI cards. Both create NO problems. Is there a good reason I cannot install the SCSI PCI card??

PCI scsi card for ScanMaker 4

Hi every one!
I have G4 running Mac OX 10.4, I'm able to scan from the ScanMaker 4 in Mac OS 9 into PhotoShop or using the scanning software, however if I try to scan in OS X there is not communication between the computer and the scanner.
I have installed a " PCI Adaptec SCSI" card ( which work fine in OS 9x), so far no luck in Microtek web site or Adaptec trying to down load a driver, a patch or something that allow me get my scanner to work in OS X.
Any help on this will greatly appreciated!

I have had the same problem with an Epson SCSI scanner. Either there is no driver or it does not work. The solution is shareware "VueScan" which worked presto. You can download a free trial version before buying.

Sorry rakman2, but your suggestions will not work with that system.
A Sun V20z is Intel Xeon based.
No OBP, and therefore no OBP commands or utilities (such as probe).
Let's just wait for hero to provide more information.

Adaptec SCSI card

I've had a back-up tape drive working (just fine) on a G4 400 running OS X 10.3.9 for a couple of years. I want to move this tape drive to a newer (old) computer, a G4 1.25 now running 10.4.11. I dug around and found the Adaptec driver I apparently installed to enable the SCSI card 2906 on the G4 400. On the newer computer with the newer OS, though, I'm getting kernel attacks.
I searched the Adaptec site for a newer driver, and there are none. In fact, they indicate "the version 1.1 driver is embedded in Mac OS X 10.2 and later, there is no need to download and install this driver if you are running Mac OS X 10.2 or later."
I guess my question is, does anyone know if this driver is still embedded in Mac OS 10.4? If so, do you know what it's called - where it's located, so I can make sure it's there. (I actually installed the driver I had from several years ago, so if it wasn't there, it should have been then, but I still had kernel attacks.) Any other ideas on this problem?

Thanks, all, for the suggestions. I'm totally flustered with this issue. Been working on it most of the day! According to what BDAqua found, I see that this card may not work with OS 10.4, but kind of hard to believe it wouldn't. (Hope that's just a post that was only current up through the 10.3 era.) The "Ask Adaptec" site Michael found does include 10.4.
I did find that 1.3 driver, and it is designed for Classic - not OS X (as is the SCSI probe). Fact is, this computer also runs an old (but still good) scanner booted in Classic mode, and everything is working great from that side. (Only use the scanner 4-5 times a year - hate to buy a new one when it still works.)
I do seem to have all the possible, appropriate extensions in OS X. In fact, I dumped all and reinstalled them through Pacifist. Still have the problem. This tape drive is accessed only through Retrospect, and I'm wondering if something in Retrospect is causing the problem instead of the SCSI connection, but I thought kernel panics were generally hardware related. When I access the drive in Retrospect (like to configure it), even if I don't "use" it, I get a kernel panic when I close Retrospect. If I try to restore a file, as it searches a tape, I get a kernel panic.
I examined the kernel panic log. Obviously, it doesn't mean much, but the text on every crash ends with:
com.apple.iokit.SCSITaskUserClienp
or
com.apple.iokit.SCSITaskUserClient(1.4.9) . . . and some numbers/letters.
I also see "SCSI" in a couple of other places in the report, so I do believe it's a SCSI problem, but I'm baffled.
I might reinstall Retrospect and see if it helps, but I'm not optimistic that it will. Guess I might also try installing 10.3 in a partition that already exists on the drive, boot in 10.3 and see if the SCSI connection starts working. (If it would, guess I'd have to reformat the drive, reinstall everything and stop with the 10.3 install.)
Any other ideas?

How can I re-install my old SCSI card (2906)?

I think I should have asked for guidance here first but...
I'm trying to re-install my old SCSI card in my G4 (Dual 1 GHz - 1.5 GB Ram, 10.5.8), it worked fine a few years ago (under previous OS) but I can't seem to get it running now. The Profiler sees the card (Adaptec 2906) but says there is no driver. So I downloaded a driver from the Adaptec site (2930 - they say its the same as the 2906 driver), installed it, connected an old ZIP drive as a test - and yes I set the auto termination. Restarted and got a Kernel panic! - retried and got another panic!
Un-installed the driver, cleaned the cashes and reset permissions with Onyx, so I appear to be back to a stable system.
Anyone have any experience with SCSI cards? I would greatly appreciate any/all suggestions. I do have some experience with computers [Apple II+, SE30, IIFX, 8500 PowerMac, but this old head just can't get this figured out.

I thought I'd post this as an update and general information for others who might have a similar problem.
I have my old original Scsi card installed (Adaptec 2906), and it does work under 10.4.11 (my alternate/back-up system). I installed just "Adaptec78XXSCSI.kext" in the system/library/extensions folder and as long as I start my scanner before I boot into 10.4 everything seems to work just fine.
It's a bit of a pain to have to switch systems whenever I need to scan something, but I can live with it.
I tried to install the drivers in 10.5.8 but that doesn't work at all. If I install the whole Adaptec2930 package, I get a Kernel panic almost immediately. If I install just the "Adaptec78XXSCSI.kext", the card is not recognized. From what I've read on various sites is that 10.4 is the last OS that supports SCSI cards (or at least this Adaptec card). If someone has better/more information, I would appreciate hearing from them.
I contacted Adaptec tech support, but I have not as yet received a reply
In the end, things have worked out reasonably well. I have the use of my old reliable Agfa Scanner (Vuescan is great!), and my old Powermac 8500 is still functional enough for me to recover all my ancient tape archives.
An interesting little twist: Part of my incentive to re-install the old SCSI card was to recover my tape archives via Retrospect. But I discovered while searching for the drivers that Retrospect no longer supports the Adaptec cards, and hasn't for some time, so I could not have used it on my G4 anyway!

The Apple website makes it seem like you have to have a BA in computer science to do it, and provides no instrutions. I'd like to see what's involved before attemting the install myself. Mind you, I've built computers from scratch so I'm inclined to believe I can do this myself with a little help.

I was told that they wouldn't sell it to a third party. But if you got it, Apple installs it without charge so I'd let them do it and insure that your warranty isn't voided. Get to know the folks at the apple store near you (if you have one). They're really helpful and do things "gratis" on occasion. This is one of the reasons I usually try to "buy locally" for everything. It may be cheaper online but the personal relationship often helps out in the long run and the cost winds up being less. fwiw, my 2¢.
