How to install yosemite on lion server without server application

I have osx 10.7.5  (that's all it says when I click about this app, but I know the computer was installed with lion with server app originally).  I don't need nor want the server app, and am happy to remove it one way or another.  Server is currently disabled.  I want to know how to upgrade to mavericks or yosemite without any server aspect at all.  Can it be done?  I have googled until my head has exploded and am none the wiser.  Most people seem to be unsuccessful.  I did previously try to install mavericks when it came out but it came up with some random scary message and I cancelled it.
Both my mac mini 2011 disks are in use  for different reasons - one tends to be more operational such as the operating system and apps, the other to save all my photos, videos and files mainly.   I have a separate ext hard drive for time machine back ups.
I have no tech skills whatsoever, so baby language please.  Be specific.  Outline EVERY step in simple language.  Or I will cry!
Thanks!
Jodi

There's nothing special you have to do. Just upgrade. The Server app won't come back.

  • How re-install OS X Lion fresh without disks?

Something is wrong with programs or something on my Mac and I want to completely wipe the hard drive and start over with a fresh copy of Lion.  I did a Time Machine backup last night and will then just bring over files one at a time from that external drive as needed.
On someone's suggestion, I held down the Alt/Option key when powering on and chose the option to re-install the OS.  It said it would take 5+ hrs so I let it run through the night.  But this morning I still saw all of my icons, settings, etc.  I want to COMPLETELY start fresh.
How can I do this, please.. especially with no disks?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi rcook349,
id suggest doing as Colin mentioned, and then some:
    1. Using the reformat the drive option
    2. Installing fresh from your original OS disks (you mention you want to install without the disks, but the Lion.app upgrade file is an application which requires a base install - Im not sure how to make this install file bootable)
    3. Running the Lion upgrade
    4. Running the TimeMachine restores

  • Can anyone tell me how to install a network printer driver without having the network printer online?

Can anyone tell me how to install a network printer driver without having the network printer online? It doesn't matter what manufactors make the network printers. Is a netwaork printer(with network card) has to have that printer on line to be able to install
the driver? This is the point of my question!
I've ask a same type of question previously, but I can't either get good answer nor reply on the response.

    DP
The computer (and driver) have to handshake with the printer, QED it has to be either online or physically connected and if it is physically connected it wont work on the network so yes it does.

  • How to install mdk in nwds for creating mobile applications

    Hi experts,
how to install mdk in nwds for creating mobile applications?
    reward points for appropriate answer.
    Thank you,
    G.V.K.Prasd

    HI,
MDK is already integrated in NWDS. Separate MDK download is only necessary in case you want to use Eclipse as single DEV environmant without the full blown NWDS orwant to develop for earlier versions like MI7.0.
So very important: separate MDK does only support MI7.0 and earlier versions. If this is your intention, simply download MDK plugin, extract the folder, have a look into the download subfolder and you see the ECLIPSEPLUGIN.ZIP file in there. Unzip this as well and then put the related stuff into the FEATURES and the PLUGINS folder of Eclipse. After restarting Eclipse open the settings and add the buttons to the view and configure the correct settings for your system. This is the normal stuff like for every Eclipse plugin. Not 100% sure if this is not included in NWDS as well already.
If you are not sure about PLUGINS and FEATURES stuff and the configuration - the MDK itself has a great documentation that shows the steps you need to follow.

    Oliver

  • HT5678 What the important thing we need before we can setup The Mountain Lion Server application

I want to set up mountain lion server application on my mac osx 10.83 , may i have some suggestion before i set up it to my macBook .

I'd ask what requirements you're looking to fulfill by using OS X Server on a MacBook system, as that's not a typical hardware configuration for a server.
OS X Server and most other server operating systems expect static IP addresses and full-time availability, where a MacBook tends to be mobile and to thus have a variety of dynamic DHCP IP addresses and networks, and MacBook systems also tend to be closed and hibernating at random times.
It's certainly possible to use this hardware as a server (and it can be useful when you're learning how to manage a server and have a "scratch" MacBook available), but the hardware is not necessarily a good fit.
As you add services, you'll want to have DNS services established and verified, and — on a typical NAT'd local area network with no other LAN-local DNS services — that involves configuring DNS services on OS X Server itself.  DNS is a prerequisite for various other OS X Server services.
But yes, do have a disk backup, either Time Machine, or as an external disk backup, or however you preserve your data.  Skimming the OS X Server manuals can help save some time figuring out the platform, too.

  • HT203421 Since installing Yosemite 10.10 the Apps Store application on my iMac does not work

installing Yosemite 10.10 the Apps Store application on my iMac does not work properly. Applications show up in the App Store window to be updated but in fact most of them do not download and install. Some 3rd party software does download and install but most Apple and HP Applications do not. They appear in some cases in both the Ready to update or install list and in the "Installed in the last 30 days list". In some cases when I click on "Update" it shows in the "Installed in the Last 30 Days list" but it is not installed.  In the case of the latest Yosemite 10.10.3 beta down load, it momentarily show up like it is downloading but then disappears and does not install.

I am now using Yosemite 10.10.2 and am trying to install the beta Download Yosemite 10.10.3 hoping it will resolve my problem but starts to download from the App Store snd then quits.

  • How to install or replace lion on Mac OS X Leopard simultaneously reinstall time machine backup of  OS X Leopard

Hi, I am new or know nothing about Mac Mini which I received from relative as gift along with few software including lion OS.
I want to install lion after time machine backup of current files Mac OS X 10.6.8.
MY question is that backup of Mac OS X 10.6.8 can be installed or copied on newly installed Lion software.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Raj

Only third-party applications and the user's admin folder. Since Lion succeeds Snow Leopard, you cannot restore the system software without first erasing the drive. That means you must have the Snow Leopard installer DVD.
I would simply upgrade the Snow Leopard system with Lion:
How to Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Successfully - You must have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Installed
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.3.) if DW cannot fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
      1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
      1. If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before
installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the
update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is
          complete and you've restarted.
      2. You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-
party system software modifications, or if you have modified the
operating system through other means. (This does not apply to
          normal application software installation.)
      3. The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or
other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone
installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the
installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade to Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks:
      1. Purchase the Lion/Mountain Lion Installer from the Mac App Store.
The download should start quickly. Lion is nearly 4 GBs so a fast
internet connection is essential. Download time could run upwards of 4
hours depending upon network conditions and server demands at the
time. Note that Mavericks is FREE.
      2. The installer will run automatically after the download is completed.
Click on the Install button to begin the upgrade.
      3. Follow instructions for installation.
    Also see:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • How can I make my Lion Server into a Lion Workstation?

How can I downgrade my Mac OS X Lion Server to just a standard Mac OS X Lion machine?
I've tried everything including re-installing Lion. When re-installing Lion, it seems to automatically pickup on the fact that this is a Server OS & installs Lion Server OS.
I want to simply downgrade my Lion machine to be running the standard Lion OS instead of Lion Server.
In case you're wondering, this is on my iMac 27" which I originally upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, then from Lion to Lion Server.

    @Chris BeHanna
You were right for the firewall Issue. I was also running IPSecuritas and I installed Lion Server and the traffic stopped responding on the tunnel, although it connected well.
I figured out that, for some reason, even if the ServerAdmin indicated that the server firewall (my local "new" server, my own machine) was inactive, some rules must had been set during Server.app installation.
Anyway, what I did was activate the firewall, and then, allow all traffic on every ip. You can do that in the ServerAdmin app.
And then the traffic turned back on, on the IPSecuritas tunnels.
The next step would be to be configure rules precisely, but since I am already behind a firewall, I prefer using a "transparent" setting.

  • How to install a new hard drive without bootable disc/usb

Hi- my hard drive has totally failed and although I can get into disk utility it won't let me create images and keeps coming up with input/output errors when I try.
I don't have another mac to work from and have no discs whatsoever even for older OS versions
I've ordered a new hard drive(a seagate 750GB 7400rpm one) but how do I get mountain lion on the new hard drive without any discs? If I just put in my new hard drive will it come up with an option? I have a mid 2009 MBP if that helps

I have a mid 2009 MBP if that helps
    Here is how it helps:
You need the Utilities from Recovery_HD. Your broken Mac can boot from a Thumb drive.
Use this article to download this Utility to copy the Recovery_HD from your older, working Mac to a minimum 1GB USB thumb drive:
OS X: About Recovery Disk Assistant
Then boot the new mac with the thumb drive by holding down Alt/Option, wait wait wait while it draws an Icon for each bootable Volume, choose the Recovery_HD, choose proceed arrow, and use Disk Utility to erase the drive and create GUID partition Map, 1 partition, Mac OS X Extended (journaled). Then install Mac OS X by download.
