  • How do I switch iPhone/iPad's "master" syncing computer before iCloud

I have a Mac Mini running Lion and a Macbook running Snow Leopard (until I have time to upgrade it to Lion).  Up until now, I've been syncing both my iPhone and my iPad with the Macbook.  I've had it much longer than the Mini and it's always synced to it.  However, now the iOS 5 will allow wireless over-the-air syncing, I'd like to switch the syncing over to the Mini since it's "always on".
Ideally, I probably need to make this switch before I turn on and set-up iCloud.  Then when I turn on iCloud/over-the-air syncing, it's already set up for that computer.
How do I go about doing this?  I already have the same content on both computers due to Home Sharing.  However, the phone has always been synced to the Macbook, thus it uses it's iPhoto library.  It also has the backups, sync settings/preferences/playlists, etc.
I can easily make a copy of my current Macbook iPhoto library and move it over to the Mini so that the albums match with what's been previously synced to the iPhone/iPad.
How do I copy over iTunes smart playlists/regular playlists, etc. so that what's currently on my Macbook will be mirrored on the Mini?  I have many smart playlists that I sync with my iOS devices and I don't want to lose those on the devices.
Can I just copy over the iPhone/iPad "backup" file over to the Mini and restore the phone from there so that it will then be associated with the Mini instead of the Macbook?  I definitely don't want to lose any of the data associated with or saved in any of the apps.
Or is there an easier way to deal with all of this?  I want the over-the-air sync with iOS, but facts are that the Mini will always be on and the laptop often is not.
I know that I can also have the iPhone/iPad "PC-Free", however, I'm assuming that I'll lose some of my current set-up/smart playlists/photo albums, etc. if I don't have it working with my Mini.
Any ideas, suggestions, feedback, etc. would be helpful.  I know that this post discusses many different issues, but they're all related to mirroring my current iOS syncing setup and content from the current Macbook over to the Mini.

  • How do you view iPhone/iPad Notes on your Mac laptop?

How do you set up to view the Notes on your iPhone or iPad through iCloud on your Mac laptop?  I'm unable to figure it out.  I am running the latest versions of OS and IOS.  I would like my Notes to always sync through iCloud.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  - Terry

On your iPhone and iPad, go to Settings>iCloud, sign in with your Apple ID to create your iCloud account and turn Notes to On (you will also need to set up an iCloud email account in order to sync notes with iCloud, even if you don't use it).  Confirm that in Settings>Notes that the Default Account is set to iCloud.
On you MBP, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign into your iCloud account and check Notes.  Open the Notes app and confirm that Notes>Default Account is set to iCloud.
After that new notes should sync between your devices using iCloud as long as you haven't selected a different account to create the note in.  If you have existing notes on your iOS devices that were created prior to setting up iCloud notes syncing, you'll have to copy and paste the text into new notes created in the iCloud account in order to sync them with iCloud.  Any notes on your Mac that are not in the iCloud account can simply be dragged and dropped to iCloud within the Notes app in order to add them to iCloud.

Please, I need help, I cant share reminders with other people.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You aren't supposed to, other people don't want your reminders, if they do then you are using reminders instead of calendar, which can share calendars.

  • HT4972 I am unable to download apps because my iOs is not up to date. No update shows up in my General settings, how do I update my iPad?

I am unable to download apps because my iOs is not up to date. No update shows up in my General settings, how do I update my iPad?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • How do I back up ipad to external hard drive?

I want to back up my IPad (without the cloud) to an external hard drive that also will back up my IMac using Time Machine. How can I do this? Thanks!!

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
