How to:  ITunes on iWeb blog

it appears that I can't actually post iTunes for the general reader, but must authorize (5) computers to hear what I post. How do I post iTunes so whoever reads a blog entry can also hear the tune? Even a portion of the tune would be better than nothing. Do I need to pay some kind of royalty? Is there a work around? And if not iTunes, then what?

You can't:

◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search

I suggest you use one of the established blooging sites for your blog and embed your blog page into one of your website pages like in this demo page: Embed a Site Within an iWeb Page

  • How can I redirect iWeb Blog to Wordpress

Hi - I'm looking to redirect my iWeb blog to a temporary WordPress blog and was hoping there was some code I could use to do this? Or can I do this directly in iWeb?
    * Would I download the Index.html file to do this to add code? Then reupload to iDisk when finished?
Is there a standard redirect code for me to use? I'm looking to have readers type web.me.com"username" - and be directed to a Wordpress blog site.
Thanks in advance for any help -

You can add the following code to an HTML snippet on your iWeb blog page:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO PAGE ON SITE YOU WANT TO REDIRECT TO"; </script>
When someone lands on your iWeb blog they will immediately be redirected to your other blog.

  • How to Publish old iweb blog saved in pages?

I have a series of blogs created in an early version of iweb. I saved them to my desktop in a folder in a Pages format. If I want to export them to iweb 09 to eventually publish them to machighway (since mobileme is "dying").  There are two choices from which to select:PDF and one other the name of which I forget. What is my best choice? In order to publish I need to get these files into iweb (I believe). They also exist as a web archive, which I can open but which I do not know how to handle beyond that. I really want to preserve (maybe share) these memoirs. Any ideas? I am running snow leopard on my imac and have pages 09.

You could export them as PDFs and make them available for download...

  • How do I move my blog posts from iWeb to Wordpress?

I want to move all my blog posts from iWeb to Wordpress. Is that possible and how?

Depending on how many posts you have, it may be best to copy and paste them into Wordpress. I don't know for sure, but I dought if there is any process that will do that automatically for you. I would have your iWeb blog (edit Mode) window open and then Create a new blog in Wordpress. Copy the iWeb title/paste into Wordpress - Copy the iWeb blog text/paste into Wordpress. It should go fast once you get the first one done because you'll do the same for all.  Hope that helps.

  • IWeb blog - How much to upload?

I have an established blog on my iWeb created website, in my own domain. http://www.cuppa500.com/CCC/CCC.html
To add a new entry to the blog I complete the following procedure:
Compose update & save in iWeb
Publish to a folder (on my desktop)
Transfer the updated material to my web site using FTP (Fireftp in Firefox).
This works ok ...BUT... each time I have uploaded the entire blog even if only correcting a previously uploaded spelling mistake! With the increasing size of my blog, this is becoming quite a lengthy process.
    QUESTION
Is it possible to upload individual blog entries, & if so how?
Very soon, I will wanting to update my blog more regularly whilst travelling, Mobile broadband is expensive so a method to cut back on the amount of data I upload is pretty essential.
    Thanks

If you update/correct a previous entry you can upload the files for that page only. If you do this for a new entry you will break the file structure.
I don't use the iWeb blog because it is restrictive and soon becomes unwieldy as you have discovered.
Consider starting a new blog for your "travels".
You can publish several blogs as sub sites and upload them to your server as separate entities and link to and from your main site.
Using a better FTP application will help. I use Yummy which has a ton of options.

  • IWeb Blog Theme, how increase number of entries shown

iWeb , Blog Theme, number of entries is 5 only, the rest spill over into archive. How do I change this?

Click on Inspector (bottom left in iWeb). In Inspector, click on RSS (fourth from left on top). Click on "Blog." Under "Blog Main Page," you'll see "Number of excerpts to show." Adjust the number and Voila!!
Good luck and Happy New Year.

  • How to copy iWeb blog to new iWeb site?

    Hi Folks,
I am able to successfully move, via drag and drop, my blog from an old iWeb site to a new one in iWeb.
However, what I want to do is to preserve the old blog as a backup, and them start updating and chagging the blog contet in the new iWeb site. I actually use the blog on my site as a way to list courses.
I've tried to copy files in the iWeb site files, and then reopen iWeb, and I can't see the blog page listed.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Inoshi

To be able to drop and drag from one site to another in iWeb, you firstly need to have iWeb 09.  You then need to open the relevant domain.sites file and you need to have the sites underneath each other, so Site1 above and then Site2 below and all you do is just click on the Blog page on Site1 and just drag it over and down to Site2.
You can't do it individually, but you need to drag from one site to another.
I would also advise that you don't use the iWeb blog, as it is not that good and there are better alternatives out there.
You might like to look at some new software too such as EverWeb - http://www.everwebapp.com.  It is very like iWeb, but is actively supported and developed whereas for the last 2 years, iWeb has not been and has not been sold by Apple either.
If you wanted a better blogging system, you could transfer your whole website into WordPress.org.  You need to install it on a server at your web host, but it might serve you better and you can create a blog it you want to and you can extend it with the use of plugins.  Would not take too long to re-create depending on the size of your site and it is relatively easy to use compared to the other CMS's.
Think about changing before iWeb becomes unusable.

  • How do I open my Blog on another computer?

I have created an iWeb blog on one computer. But now want to edit it on my other Mac. How do I do that? I have iWeb on both.
Also - where is my Blog saved on my Mac? What's the default iWeb websites folder?
    Thanks,
    - Greg

    Hi Greg,
Your question of where iWeb saves its information is exactly the answer to your first question of editing from multiple computers.
iWeb saves all information about your website in a file called Domain. This file is located at the following folder pathway: Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ This is the file that needs to be copied to the other computer that you want to edit from. It's probably "best" to have one computer where you will do your iWeb work from. Otherwise, you will need to become familiar with methods of copying this Domain file back and forth so that you make sure you are always editing using the most recent Domain file (copying to iDisk, flash drives, FTP, etc).
Don't forget to always backup this Domain file!!!

  • Iweb Blog ftp or mobile me?

I have just designed a website in iweb that I ftp through godaddy. Took a while to make that decision, but at least I have complete design control! I am doing pretty well and now at the search rankings stage and realize that iweb isn't great at that. Read some of the articles here on search rankings and downloaded the SEO guide and going to take actions with that, and also bought the godaddy search optimisation pack and intend to place the metatags/descriptions etc on my pages.
BUT, I now want to design a second site which is just a blog, which obviously isn't showing up through godaddy, so need to mobileme it. But, with a blog, how do you add the metatags etc to the pages, and are their individual pages for each blog posting? Does mobile me make it easy to go into each file and make the blog searchable? Just not sure whether to just design blog pages myself in iweb rather than their formatted ones, and use godaddy instead?
So, in short - mobile me with formatted iweb blog? or design own blog and ftp with godaddy - which makes the pages more searchable?

Welcome to the discussions. You'll probably have better luck making your blog pages more searchable if you use a dedicated blogging platform — most of them allow tags to be specified.
MobileMe is slow and problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums. For a success story with a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:
To blog or not to blog
And to link to an external blog from iWeb's navbar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (Actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).
SEO is important to you, but iWeb is designed for personal sites and, as such, Apple apparently thinks there's no need for Google. Web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate SEO — Sandvox Pro is an example:

  • IWeb Blog to non-.mac Domain

    Hello good folks,
I have my business Website at its own (non apple) domain. I would like to use iWeb to create a blog, and then attach that blog to my business Website. (Therefore, it would be an alternative to wordpress, blogspot, etc.)
    Is this
    -- possible?
    -- advisable?
    -- easy?
    -- pain?
A secondary question: If those answers are a reasonable "yes," then is it possible to update my blog from both my Mac Pro and my PowerBook, and still keep everything reasonably organized?
    Many thanks, as always.

    Mireille,
The helpful tips and product review 'blog' is an 'add-on' to our online store which has a shopping cart and it's SEO set ups that work well. It was made from a template in GoLive. The store is the primary concern and the blog is intended to be a convenient format to provide useful dynamic content to drive search engines and customers to our store.
If I could figure out to use something besides a frame I would as I understand the frames are not search engine friendly either. After submitting the sitemap for the blog, it was interesting to see that only the apparent entries get listed in Google. So, it appears that it is dependent on how many 'excerpts you show' in iWeb and not the archives and it's content.
If there is a sitemap generating app that will point Google to the content in the archives, I'd be very interested to know about it and how effective it is. I've found site search options I can add to the blog content if I load it directly to the site and set up pages versus frames....if the content can be searchable and generate the proper site map.
Here's an interesting page from Rage: http://www.ragesw.com/blog/2008/04/12/seo-for-iweb-how-to-get-your-iweb-websites -into-google-other-major-search-engines/ (which I notice you responded to....:-) )

  • Search field - how to display in iWeb on Lion 10.7.4

Hi, in my iWeb blog, I have the Search field (that a viewer would use) visible. When I upload it to my FTP server, the Search fiels disappears. While MobileMe was around, this was enabled when u had an MM account. Now that MM has gone...how does one make the Search field active in a new iWeb upload?

You can use a Google serach of your webpage by adding the code from this Google webpage, Google Custom Search, to an HTML snippet on your iWeb page.

  • Google Analytics Automator breaks iWeb blog comments

    Hi
I added a blog for our Small Business site that I created with iWeb. We used Google Analytics and the Automator script add the HTML snippet to track visits on our site. Since I added the blog I realized that after running the GA automator script the "Add a comment" link disappears.
Kinda defeats the purpose of the blog. I have to choose between tracking how many visitors have been on the blog, or visitors posting comments, but I can't have both. How can I fix this and track how many visitors were on our site, and have a blog where visitors can leave comments? Any ideas and solutions would be most welcome. Thanks,
    Zoltan

Unfortunately, as you have discovered, inserting Google Analytics into your site requires post editing. This means that you cannot just publish directly to MobileMe from iWeb - to insert the analytics you need to publish to a folder, insert and then place the Blog directly on your iDisk - unfortunately, this way you loose the features that your iWeb blog provides when published directly to MME - i.e. Blog comments.
Do you have an ordinary website too or is it just a blog? If you have an ordinary website, what some people do, including myself, is set up a blog with WordPress, E-blogger, or http://www.posterous.com and link to it from your iWeb site.
If you are just after setting up a blog on its own without a site, then I would suggest you look at http://www.wordpress.com, http://www.eblogger.com or posterous (link provided). You can set up a blog with any template you like and can add entries on line at any time, rather than being limited to updating with the domain.sites file as you are with iWeb.
In WordPress, you can also add as many pages as you like, so you can effectively have a website as well as a blog, so the other alternatives might be a better bet than iWeb and I think they have their own built in analytics too.
