How to keep 2 macs synced

I have a Macbook Pro that I use for my home & office computer.  I am thinking about purchasing an iMac for my office so i do not have to lug the laptop back and forth.  My questions is: is there a way to keep the two computers synced?  Same apps, music etc...  Any solutions and/or suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you

Most stuff can be synced via iCloud.  Music can be synced via iTunes Match.  I use DropBox for files and passwords (1Password).

  • TA21087 Link to how to keep Mac printer sharing on, please?

This must have been answered many times: How to keep Mac printer sharing on?
Brother MCF-7340 drivers have been installed from original DVD.
Turning on printer sharing remains easy. But sharing goes away by itself.

The iPad uses AirPrint for printing.  AirPrint uses Bonjour data.  Some WiFi routers do not handle Bonjour data correctly.
    Two options:
    1.  New WiFi router.  Apple's AirPorts and Time Capsules are known to work.  My Cradlepoint MBR900 works.  There are others, but I do not know of any compatibility list.
    2.  iPad App such as Print n Share.
(The option to run a program on your desktop computer that will share the printer over WiFi, may also require the router to pass Bonjour data correctly.)

  • How to keep mac at its best condition

My mac have been overheating quite easily and battery is running out quicker than before so im wondering if anyone can tell me how to keep my mac at its best condition. My mac is 2010 mid mac book pro

Overheating, is it the 13" model?
Is the fans racing even when your not doing much of anything?
Do a SMC Reset if it's that

I can't do anymore without some more detailed information, your Mac's model, the size etc.
If you installed 10.7 that would explain a lot, what's your RAM?
What programs did you install? Anti-virus? MacKeeper?

  • How to keep Mac files secure during repair at Apple Store

I will be taking my MacBook Pro into an Apple Store to have a Genius diagnose a persistent hardware problem. I am very concerned about my files and info being stolen or tampered with if a I have to leave it there for repairs. I am especially concerned about Keychain. What is the recommended way to keep the contents of my Mac secure in this situation, since I assume I will have to give them my Administrator info? Thanks

I'd recommend against FileVault if you have a lot of data, especially media files that are one singular file in excess of several hundred MBs (or more). Someone got a client of mine to configure FileVault (first time) on her MacBook Pro that had about 180GB of movies, music, pictures, etc. While it enabled FileVault in about 25-30 minutes on the initial sparsebundle image creation it took over 37 hours to remove the sparsebundle image when she turned FileVault. It wasn't even corrupted... I couldn't imagine how long it would have taken if it was.
I vote the temporary relocation of files, it's quicker and easier.
Also, while I can't speak for all Mac Genii that do repairs, having served as one for a while I honestly say that I never "snooped" around a user's machine. Unless they explicitly asked me to verify something, I never clicked anywhere that wasn't System Profiler, Activity Monitor or System Preferences. Honestly, there was just never any "free time" during a repair to be digging through your documents or pictures and the risk of termination or something worse was not worth the "thrill."

  • How to keep playlists synced between all devices

How is the easiest way to keep all music, playlists, etc. synced between all devices (computer, iPhone, iPad).  Isn't there a way without connecting via usb or wifi?

As Bob says, any iMap service can do this. GMail can, iCLoud mail can too.
Both of these can be used with Mail on any device.

  • How to keep Mac's clock very accurate ?

Some people I communicate with suggested a certain latency with connected equipment "might" be due to my clock not staying "accurate" ... mind you, they are all on PC's
I have the time set preference set to use tick.usno.navy.mil
How often does the Mac verify the time?
Is there an built in function in the O/S where I can tell it to check every minute or two?

I had about a dozen of these from today, no other entries. "Might" have been when I switched from Time-Tick to Apple time server...
3/14/2010 8:18:40 AM ntpd[619] configure: keyword "burst" unknown, line ignored
3/14/2010 8:18:40 AM ntpd[619] configure: keyword "minpoll" unknown, line ignored
As for compare to Naval time, it seems to my eye they toggle each second together.
Should I expect to see many log entries of time-correction? If so, what is the process controlling that and where can I get to the parameters?
thanks for the help so far

  • How to stop mac sync from other computer that is not authorities

administactor at LAN has sync my computer with his computer without my permisssion, how can i stop or delete this setting?

Take a look at this -> Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Short version: iTunes will transfer the purchases made from the iTunes Store on your iPhoneh to your computer. It treats all other music and video syncing as a one-way street, to comply with copyright laws (wont sync stuff not purchased through iTunes from your iPhone to your computer).

  • How to delete iCal sync in .Mac

I want to delete my iCal info (from my syncs) in .Mac. I created a mess and I want to start over. Problem is when I sync I retrieve the messy info saved on my .mac???
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    fredericlang,
Follow the procedures list in...How to reset .Mac Sync: If your .Mac Sync begins to behave oddly, resetting the sync is a good troubleshooting step. It's essentially a "do-over," in case the computer got confused.
If you are going to reset the sync data, make sure to reset it from the computer that has the most up-to-date information on it. If you sync between computers with different versions of Mac OS X, try to reset the sync data from the computer with Mac OS X 10.4, if possible. Here's how to reset .Mac Sync....;~)

  • How do I remove an entry from my .Mac Sync list?

I use Soho Notes and even though I've instructed it (through their own software) not to sync their Notes and Keywords with .Mac Sync, those items continue to show up as choices. I've un-checked them of course, but how can I remove them completly?
    Thanks,

    HI John,
I just found this: Instructions on resetting data:
    How to reset .Mac Sync
If you are going to reset the sync data, make sure to reset it from the computer that has the most up-to-date information on it. If you sync between computers with different versions of Mac OS X, try to reset the sync data from the computer with Mac OS X 10.4, if possible. Here's how to reset .Mac Sync.
To reset your .Mac Sync data in Mac OS X 10.4:
Make sure that all your data is correct and current in Address Book, iCal, Safari bookmarks, Keychain, Mail, and other applications that use .Mac Sync, and make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
Open System Preferences and click .Mac.
Click the Advanced tab and then click Reset Sync Data.
From the Replace pop-up menu, choose the information you want to reset, such as Bookmarks, Keychains, or all data.
Click the right arrow button so that the orange arrow flows from the computer icon to the .Mac icon in the window, and the text above the icons says "On .Mac with sync info from this computer."
Hopefully this will help you Remove or Add items to the list. I just tried it on my own and it worked like a charm.

  • How to Keep Three Macs in Sync ?

I work with two Macs (Mac BookPro and MacBook Air) and about to buy a new iMac. Now I want to keeping the SAME data on the three machines in sync, means when ever I open any of the Macs to find exactly the same Data, files, documents etc etc.
Is this possible ? and if yes how can I do this ?
This question might have been asked before so excuse If I might have been repeating it again !
    Thanks allot in advance....

Apple believe in Cloud to do this kind of stuff..
The TC was never designed as a file server.. and Time Machine is not SYNC software.
However you could do this.. with some trepidation.. because the TC has no way to back itself up and Time Machine cannot backup the TC.
You could setup folders of files you need in sync.. on the TC and I would buy SYNC software.. there is such a category.. and run it on each Mac.
OR a better solution is to use a computer as server.. and run OS Server extensions on it.
I cannot advise on Sync software.. as I would never use it.. and without direct experience it is hard to know.. but you could do this very cheaply or even for free with a few simple rsync scripts.. rsync being built into every Mac. Mind you keeping files in the correct place and update.. can be a bit of fun.

  • How do I set up pages for mac and ipad to share a document and keep them synced.

How do I set up pages for mac and ipad to share a document and keep them synced.

You can upload them from Mac to iCloud and then download on the iPad. They only directly sync between iOS devices. The Mac version of Pages has more options that are not available on iOS. If you use a font that is not available on iOS it will change the font. Some layout options aren't available either.

  • How to keep synced library on Apple TV but delete synced items from iTunes

I use a Macbook Pro and space is limited, so does anyone know of a clean way to break the sync connection without deleting the existing synced content on Apple TV? I'd like to move items over, and then delete from my iTunes library to save space. I will also later want to add new items to be streamed, but without causing any past synching to be lost.
Can this be done by simply unchecking the "look for Apple TV" box in iTunes? If so, how can I then stream new content from the same Macbook Pro without causing past synced content to be lost? Since the syncing is quite slow over wireless network, I want to maintain commonly watched items on the apple TV but still ave the ability to stream a new item, from the same macbook pro if possible.

Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Thanks for the information. Just to be sure I'm clear: after I synch the one library (which I'll keep on an external hard drive where I have more space), is it OK to keep it around and make future changes that I want synced (and then just connect that library for synching whenever I want to change what is synched)? When I change back to my on-board library (on the Macbook pro), will that library not be synched automatically? Must I do anything on the Apple TV or in iTunes, other than start up with the different library, to ensure that my previously synched changes are not superceded?
Are you effectively saying that the synching of Apple TV is specific to a single iTunes library, even if different libraries are successively used in iTunes on the same machine? The manual has basically no information on how to preserve things synced, once synced, unless you're using the simplest model of wanting your iTunes library to be actively mirrored on the Apple TV. It is very painful to see things inadvertently deleted from Apple TV, given ow slowly things move over wireless g networks...

  • Two macs, two itunes, keep in sync?

I have a macbook pro with its own itunes library. I'm buying a mac mini which will also have its own itunes library (ie wont be sharing the macbook's one).
Probably a stupid question but I'm wondering how to keep these two separate libraries in sync. Assuming I authorise both macs to play itunes protected content, if I simply do a regular Duplicate of the itunes and itunes music directories of one mac to the other (using Retrospect Backup software) will that be sufficient, or can that in any way corrupt the data?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Daithi

Ok great. Well that's what I meant - the whole folder including library files, itunes music, movies etc.
My concern was that this might in some way corrupt the way iTunes runs on the Mac mini (what with it keeping its own library organised etc) but obviously it's just ok to transplant them (the setting on Retrospect overwrites everything ensuring the two folders are exact copies of each other) so I guess it's all fine!
    Thanks for the help

  • How is it best to keep files synced between iMac and Macbook?  I work from home on my iMac and then out in meetings on my Macbook and need to have access to the same files on both.

How is it best to keep files synced between iMac and Macbook?  I work from home on my iMac and then out in meetings on my Macbook and need to have access to the same files on both.  The folders are using Microsoft programmes as this is compatiable with 90% of my colleagues, therefore I can't use the Icloud service.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

  • How do I only sync the last 18 months of emails to my mac mail on the macbook?

How do I only sync the last 18 months of emails to my mac mail on the macbook? It is currently retrieving all emails from the four accounts I am syncing to and filling up space on my macbook.  I can't work out how to set a limit.
    Any help appreciated!

Imap is designed to synchronize your mail client with the mail server, this the normal result.
Switch to POP access if you want it to work asynchronously
