How to Keep Albums Separate

When I have albums that appear the same (same title, artist, etc.) but one is low-res (MP3 or CD) and one is high-res, they both get imported as the same album with the tracks intermixed. How do I keep the albums separate?
I'm using iTunes 12.0.1.26. The get-info doesn't seem to let me edit the album title when I select the multiple tracks for one album (that was suggested in some of the threads, but doesn't seem to work for me).

In iTunes each album is a set of tracks with the same Album title and the same Album Artist or Artist. If you want to separate them you need to give them different titles. Sort on bit rate so the tracks of one version are grouped away from the other then select and change one or both album titles, e.g. Album becomes Album [HQ] for your high quality versions.
You should be able to edit the album title for multiple tracks in Get Info as long as the tracks are not marked as read-only.

  • 2 iPads in one house how to keep them separate?

Currently I have an iPad 3 wifi.  We have a refurbished iPad 3 with 3G being delivered Monday.  I need to know how to keep these two iPads separate and keep them from syncing with the wrong account information with the computer.  The reason I ask this is because my husband and I both have iPhone 4s and even though he has his own iTunes account, somehow after syncing his phone with the computer to transfer music onto his phone, every so often during an app update my email will show up on his phone and ask for the password associated with it.  But sometimes it show up with his email, it's never consistent.  I don't know how to correct this and don't want this same mess to happen with the iPads.  The iPad I currently have will be my husbands when the new one gets here.  I need to be able to get rid of some things he doesn't want and make sure the things I want to keep I can put on the new one.  Anyone know how I can make all this a smooth transition??

One iTunes on one account on one computer can support multiple iPads (and other IOS devices).  The sync characteristcs (that YOU configure) can be completely different for each device.  iTunes keeps track of which is which by serial number.  You keep track of them by the names that you give to them.
Similarly, one iTunes on one account on one computer can support multiple Apple IDs and, of course, your ID is identified (no pun intended) by your email address.  HOWEVER, if you are using multiple IDs, there is a minor PIA when you need to update apps.  If you're logged in to the "wrong" ID, it's necessary to log out and back in again.  This problem does not exist if you update the apps from the iPad as the iPad handles that for you.  You must, of course, enter the correct password.
ALL purchases are permanently associated with whatever Apple ID was used to originally obtain them.  Apps can not be updated without knowledge of that ID and, more importantly, its password.  Apple IDs can not be merged and purchases can not be transferred from one ID to another.

  • How do I keep albums separate?

I have an auto with a 12 GB hard drive as part of the music package. I am trying to download from a USB stick into the drive. I pull the songs from iTunes to the USB drive, then plug the drive into the car and download. It downloads, but the album separation is lost. All the albums get dumped into one album. Is there someway to do this that preserves the album separation? I have an early 2009 iMac with 10.8.4 and the latest iTunes.
    Thank you
    Carl

Diane's method is the way I do it for the few duplicate album names I have. You could also be more subtle if you wanted and add empty spaces at the end of the different album titles.
    Anthology
    Anthology<blank space>
    Anthology<blank space><blank space>
That way you would effectively only see "Anthology" as the album name but itunes would seem them as different albums.
I haven't tried this but it is also possible that if you set an album artist (even if a bogus name) for each album that that might cause them to group together album by album.

  • Ipod Mini - my daughter & I both new, how to keep lists separate for itunes

We both have new Ipod Mini - and we've gone in and downloaded from our CD's to put on Ipod, (had trouble but done) - but when we want to play different songs on our different ipods, it automatically wants to put all songs on both. How do we keep our lists separate? and do you wipe them off the list each time you've finished to Ipod? so that next time they just add the new songs on top of the others or what?? Help please !

  • 1 address book 2 users - how to keep things separate?

    Hi
I have 1 address book 'file' separated into two groups - my contacts and my wifes contacts. The 'file' is in icloud and thus syncs between our iMac and our iphones. Generally this works fine but there are a couple of drawbacks -
    1. obviously both of us have both groups of contacts on our phones (I have mine and hers and she has hers and mine); not a huge issue but not perfect. Is there anyway of automatically syncing just individual groups so I can sync just mine and she hers?
    2. a bigger issue is that when you create a new contact using the iphone there seems to be no way of specifying which group you want to add it to and it just gets created in 'all contacts' - I'm assuming this is a limitation of the contact app on the phone?
    3. as a result of the issue above I have a bunch of 'orphan contacts' that I need to locate and move to the right group. Using Address Book I can not figure out how to tell what group a contact is actually in (other than looking at the list of contacts in a selected group obviously) - is there a way of seeing what group a contact is assigned too?
I've tried making a smart group specifying the contents should be cards not in any group but as I've seen in other postings here that simply doesn't work with iCoud storred files - any ideas?
    Many thanks

    Thanks Barney.
You have helped me understand my requirements more clearly but I don't think I'm explaining my self very well.
I think ICloud is great  (I was one of those that paid £70 each year for mobile me) - My issue is with groups on address book.
I now understand that iOS devises just don't do what I'd expect which is to allow me to add a new contact to a specific group (shame as it is kind of a basic function)
What I don't understand is why, when back on my Mac, I can't find out which contacts need to be moved to a group. Smart groups plain just don't work and there seems to be no other way of finding them other than totally manually.
Either I've missed something it's a poor design - any ideas?

  • How to keep artboards separate???

I'm pretty new to Illustrator and am taking a course on it however we've run into a problem that even the teacher doesn't know how to solve...
when working with several different artboards that are next to each other shapes that are meant to go off the artboard (and therefore not be seen) are visible around the artboard and on top of the adjacent artboard. Is there a way to turn this off??
    Thanks!

You could only create a clipping mask on the objects. Or put everything that belongs to one artboard on it's own layer and clip the layer with a clipping mask.
Artboards aren't pages, they just define an area that is to be printed. They don't cut or clip on their own.

  • 2 iPod touches, one computer. How to keep music separate?

My daughter and I both have a ipod touch. When I sync I get her kid stuff on mine and I have to remove it, and she gets my adult stuff on hers and I have to remove it.
Can I create a profile for her and one for me so I can put kids stuff in her profile, adult stuff in mine, and some stuff in both?
If not is there an easier way to sync them?

  • Does anyone know how to keep all songs in the same album when they say featuring someone?

Each time I load a CD onto Itunes that has an artist who features another artist on that particular song, it puts it in my library as a separate CD even though it will have the same album listed.  For instance Lady Gaga's song just dance features Colby O'Donnis that song is in its own spot while the rest of the cd is together that one song is separate and I don't know how to keep them all together.  Someone help.

Get the Informations for that song and have a look in the "Sorting" area if there is something different. The data inserted there is just for how iTunes will order the songs.
If the Interpret in the general informations is "Lady Gaga" and in the sorting area is "Lady Gaga feat. xxxx" than you'll see Lady Gaga as the interpret but it's sort to a second entry "Lady Gaga feat. xxxx".

Could you tell us a little more about what you want to do. Bear in mind that iTunes has nothing to do with your iCloud account.

  • I just purchased a new ipod touch so now I have two. I do not want the second ipod touch to sync the same as the old ipod touch - 2 people with 2 different music preferences. How do I keep them separate.

I just purchased a new ipod touch so now I have two. I do not want the second ipod touch to sync the same as the old ipod touch - 2 people with 2 different music preferences. How do I keep them separate.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

If it's not too late, see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. As long as you have a backup of the device when the device still held your photos you should stand a chance of recovering them using a tool such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

  • How to import 2 separate audio tracks and keep them separate?

I need advice about importing two separate simultaneous audio tracks and keeping them separate. I am importing footage from my Sony PDX-10 DV Cam.
In the field I had wireless microphones on two people, a man and woman. I interviewed them separately. The man was on channel 1 and the woman was on channel 2.
While shooting the man, for example, I could also hear the open mic of the woman who was maybe a block away talking to some friends. But her distracting sound was on CH 2 and in playback on the camera, if I dial down the volume of CH 2, I no longer hear the woman and I have a clean audio track, Ch 1, of the man who is being filmed.
I'm trying to import the interviews into iMovies with only the relevant track turned up and the distracting track turned down. When I listen to the audio from the camera on my headsets, I can get clean sound of just the person who is on camera. But the FIREWIRE seems to grab both tracks, even though in playback i'm listening only to the clean track.
Does anyone know how I can send just one audio track to IMovie? Any way to prevent the Firewire from importing both Ch 1 and Ch 2 at the same time?
I only want the sound that's relevant to the person who is on camera. And I know that in the camera, it's possible to listen to just the track from one channel. I'm hearing just one track through the headsets, because I can sucessfully dial down the other track. That's the way I want to import the footage to iMovie. But the FIrewire seems to grab all the sound it can find and carry over both CH 1 and CH 2, which means I'm left with a jumble of sound that is not useful.
And finally, if the firewire needs to grab both tracks, is there a way to assign them to two separate tracks in iMovie, so I can then simply turn one of the tracks off?

    nope.
iM handles the two stereo-channels as "one track", and offers 3 tracks of stereo.. (the one inside the video, 2 additional tracks...)
    I would... :
    * export clip(s) share/Quicktime/Expert Settings/aiff..
    * in a designated audio processor (Garageband, Audacity, ...) seperate the two channels, creating two "new" ones, stereo, where one channel is located in the stereo middle..
    * import these two "stereo" files into iM, into Track2 and Track 3 ...
    .. boom!done
