How to keep drivers current for optimum preformance?

Win7/64 bit, 8GB, GTX260, Dual Core 6000, Crosshair I
Next undate when I get the funds: Crosshair III, 12GB, Quad processor
Three internal HHD's two external HHD's
All this and when trying to find a fix in PP Hunt asked me what driver my mouse was using. Heck I don't know.
As I begin to search for the answer I can across a site called "Driver Fetch". For $29.95 they would install the latest drivers on my system for one year.
Is this the way to go to keep all my drivers current?
So as 2 not Harm my system, the Hunt is on.

I agree with Harm.
I get new drivers, when I find some issue, and seldom before. While new drivers can fix a lot of issues, they can also cause myriad problems. Case in point: nVidia had a whole series of video drivers, that contained some extreme gamer-only modules. These wrecked many Adobe products! The answer was to roll-back to previous drivers, or manually disable those particular modules. In time, nVidia made some changes, and released new "Adobe-friendly" drivers. For my workstation, I think I have only upgraded my nVidia Quadro drivers 3x in 4 years. I also keep the old driver versions handy.
Every program on all of my computers is set to NOT update automatically. I want to be notified, if there is an update, but then I will decide when/if I update. Every time that I forget, some program auto-updates and I have issues. I had forgotten to set Java to manual update, and it did its thing, when I was in the process of Saving a big image file in PS - it killed PS and for the first time in 20+ years, I had to trash my Preferences file!
Now, two thing to become familiar with are Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager. You can gain a lot of knowledge about current drivers there. Next is a little built-in utility, Start>Run>dxdiag. Plenty of tabs and info there.
I'd not go with any auto-updating program, and for most of the reasons that Harm states. I also only want to change things, if the cease working. As Harm states, "if it ain't broke... " I also do not want any updating, while I am working. I'll do it on my own time.

ABAP runtime errors (also known as short-dumps) are kept in the system only for two days, mainly because every short-dump can use a lot of disk space depending on short-dump type. Problem is that this reduced time frame (two days) is not allowing us to focus in solve the more frequent ones and we do not have any statistic about:
    how many are we getting
    how often
    repetitive ones
PROPOSED SOLUTION
We need a program to be executed in a daily job right after midnight which will take the basic information of all todays short-dumps and store it in a custom table.
Information to be kept:
      DATE
      TIME
      HOST
      USER
      SYSTEM
      CLIENT
      ERROR ID
      TRANSACTION
      PROGRAM NAME
      PROGRAM NAME VERSION (TRANSPORT REQUEST NUMBER)
      PROGRAM NAME VERSION TIMESTAMP (transported to PPx)

      SCREEN LINE
      MAIN PROGRAM NAME
      MAIN PROGRAM NAME VERSION (TRANSPORT REQUEST NUMBER)

The program must have archiving capabilities implemented. In the month end run it will also perform the table house-keeping accordingly with a parameter like this:
     ERROR-ID
     MONTHS TO KEEP
We need to have the possibility of defining different retention periods for different kind of errors, for example our friend GETWA_TOO_MANY_SEGMENT could be stored for a year and a simple CONVT_NO_NUMBER only for a month. One of the parameters should be the default one, something like
        ERROR-ID **************
        MONTHS TO KEEP 01.

Following may be the action points for your requirements.
1. Create Custom table with all fields you required.
2. Create ABAP program to extract the data from SAP standard table where runtime error information is stored.
Like: select * from snap_beg into wa_snap_beg
          where seqno = '000'
          and   datum in s_datum
          and   uzeit in s_uzeit
          and   ahost in s_ahost
          and   uname in s_uname
          and   mandt in s_mandt.......
So SNAP_BEG is a table where you can find dump information.
After extracting the data from this table insert it into a Custom table which you have created in Step 1.
Use INSERT statement for this.
3. Create transaction for this report.
4. Schedule this program every day so that you will get all data into custom table.

How to keep fields enable for Inout on ALV Header

I have a requirement where I have Material and plant Number of selection screen.
I have to display the ALV GRID report keeping Material and Plant in its header details.
I need to put a "CHG MAT/PLNT" button on the report output screen. When user presses this button Material and Plant fields on ALV header should become enable to Change. User given new selection criteria there itself and presses ENTER, the report output should be refreshed on the basis of given new selection criteria.
Can anyone please suggest me how to put a BUTTON in ALV display and make these two fields open for INPUT once this button is pressed.

How to keep aspect ratio for different sized resolutions?

If I have a 1280 x 800 resolution widescreen moniter, and I have this fullscreen game that likes to run in 800 x 600 but I don't like the way that the game stretches across the whole widescreen moniter. The only way for me to keep everything in a good aspect ratio is to put my resolution at 1280 x 800 but the game doesn't like that.
Would there be a way to set it so that the 800 x 600 resolution is set to have the correct aspect ratio rather than being stretched across the widescreen? ie, so it looks like a square with black spots on both sides.
I heard that a modeline generator would be the thing I want, but I'm not sure how I should go about this stuff. If you have any reading on it, please give it to me.

There wasn't an option to keep aspect ratio and stretch but I was able to center it rather than stretching.
Now my framebuffer boot up got centered, I need to find out how to make the framebuffer bootup be 1280x800 rather than 1024x768. This should be simple, but the guide in the sample menu.lst only gives square-y resolutions.

Now the problem I am facing is :
When I select a row, the make current property of table gets fired. This will call executeQueryForCollection with an additional param (bind variable) with name "fbkKy__0" (i believe it is find by key) and value : my current row's key value.
Since my executeQueryForCollection is called, the procedure gets executed again(This is also not required because, the procudure does takes time, and is not required to re-execute always).
The UI table will show the selection, but my iterator is pointing to the first row. And as a result am not able to get the current row in the bean.
I developed the above VO based on below link and the fusion middle ware developer's guide.

executeQueryForCollection can be executed because of passivation/activation process. When you're selecting a new row in the table, the AM is going to be activated and VO instances are going to be refreshed. So, in case of passivation/activation, it's ok if your executeQueryForCollection is being executed again. But the strange fact is that you loose the VO's current row. The current row should be passivated as well and after the activation process the VO instance should have correct current row. That's why I asked about primary key. Actually, I emulated the situation and everything works fine, the current row is correct after the activation.

I just did what mentioned in that link, i was able to create an image with links..
BUT my requirement is quite different: Iam using Nivo Slider JQuery Plugin in which Iam thinking to place an Images in which it displays some 3 products in each images.. so If I place 3 images, it means it displays 9 products (3 products in each Image).. that means, there should be 3 differnt anchor links in each image and total 9 anchor links for 3 images.
I guess iam clear.. BUT iam not sure whether this is POSSSIBLE practically or not..
COuld you please suggest whether this is possible or not..?

Is there a general strategy/best practices howto for keeping linux current?

We are an hpux shop currently thinking about oracle databases on linux.
If we do that ... well for me at the moment the strategy and tactics for applying software maintenance on a linux server is unclear at the best.
There are some hints from the linux oracle site about using up2date and yum repositories but ( probably missing several good sources ) I don't see a step by step discussion about goals ( how to keep system current and runable and patched appropriately without jeopardizing oracle database stability ) and tactics.
Could someone please point me in the right direction or steer me toward docs I have missed so far?

I do not see any difference in keeping an HPUX and a Linux environment in a healthy state. Oracle Enterprise Linux is not a linux distribution specially designed to host Oracle databases or run Oracle software in general.
As soon as Linux updates/patches are available, they can be downloaded from the Oracle Enterprise Linux up2date/yum server. Which patches to install etc is up to sysadmin and dba,
and which package versions/updates/patches should be installed and which shouldn't with respect to run Oracle software is to be found in port specific Oracle Documentation
