How to keep ical alarms displayed after restarting

I notice that my iCal alarms disappear after quitting iCal or restarting my computer. For example "Call Doctor" shows up today at 8 am when I start work. I shut down for a meeting. I restart and the alarm message is gone. The event is still there. But I might forget to call unless I see the alarm again. I remember Microsoft Entourage did this and I found it very helpful. Is there a way to get this same effect with iCal?

Hi, This is not related to your question about ical alarms, but to a previous post you made when your iweb crashed when saving. I also had to use time machine to transfer all info to a new computer and I am having the same problem when I try to save. I did not completely understand your solution because I am not very savvy with computers. I did go in and change all the permissions to read and write, but I still have the problem. I don't know how to "add my account name to the File Info"-
I just spoke with a supervisor from Apple for two hours and who did not solve the problem. (He thought he did, but he did not and he has not called me back).
If you could give me an explanation of your solution, it would be very helpful and immensely appreciated.

I figured it out. It was those permissions. I simply added my account name to the File Info. For some reason the Time Machine restoration did not copy the permission for the package (however the contents had the correct permissions.

my mac mini is just used to be connected to a videoprojector. so i don t connect a screen or mouse, keyboard or else.
i have access to it through the wireless network i created on the macmini.
but if i restart the macmini, the network is gone and i have to connect mouse keyboard, sceen, to re create the network!

Do you keep other settings (e.g. in Options) that you make in Firefox?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

Nokia 2720 fold, How to keep the front display all...

Hello,
I bought a Nokia 2720 fold. This phone has two displays. One inside, you see it when your fold the phone out. And on on the front. You see it when the phone is closed.
My question: How do I keep the front display allways on. I want to see the time immediatelly, when I look on the folded phone. At the moment the light fades out after 10 sec.

How to keep all my itunes after install of leopard?

Assume I am not all that when it comes to macs. Not new but rusty.
I have tiger with itunes and it has loads of podcasts/albums(rips) etc, and also on my ipod touch. I would like some help as to how do I keep all this after I install leopard. I think I am going for a full install rather than an upgrade.
The mac is an imac with pre-installed tiger. I am sure there is some way of keeping my itunes folder after i wipe the drive but have never done anything beyond fill up ipods with stuff.

I would suggest backing up your entire iTunes Music folder to an external hard drive or disk if the folder size is practical. To retain your playlists for reimport later on, open iTunes, select the Music Library and choose File->Export Library then save it off system along with the back up.
I recommend using Terminal to back up your iTunes Music folder because Finder's drag and drop can sometimes corrupt copied files, particularly when the directory is large. Suppose you've connected a firewire or usb external hard drive and you can see it mounted on your Desktop, here's what I would do using Terminal (/Applications/Utilities):
Open the directory ~/Music/iTunes/
Open Terminal and type the command scp -r. Now drag in the folder iTunes Music (your copy source). Next drag in the external drive mounted on your Desktop (your copy destination). The Terminal window should now read something similar to this, press Return to start the copy process:
scp -r ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Music /Volumes/External HD
When the process is complete the command prompt will return back to you. If you want to see the copy in progress change scp -r for scp -v -r. The -v makes the process verbose.
I'm with you on choosing a clean install, i choose this method every time for upgrades. Archive and Install presents the possibility of dragging old conflicts back into a clean system.

Lion: how to keep apps from reopening after I restart

How can I keep previously opened apps from reopening every time I restart. I close the apps before I shut down, and then they reopen after I restart.

The following works for me.
One time only.
Quit all apps before shutdown.
Click shutdown.
Uncheck the reopen box and click shutdown.
From then on.
Quit all apps.
Hold the option button while clicking shutdown.

Daily Repeating iCal Alarm fails after 4/1/06. DST related?

On two separate machines I maintain, a repeating alarm stopped working after April 1, 2006. The machines were both running 10.4.3, but are in different locations. Each of them has a daily repeating alarm that is set to open an Automator action at 11:30pm daily. Neither machine had the iCal application actually running (they are automation machines...no user), and iCal application probably hadn't been run for some time.
I realized today (April 4) that the last time the event ran was April 1. I opened iCal on each machine, and each case the Automator action immediately ran (even though it was nowhere near 11:30pm).
Hopefully the alarm will work again now. I wonder if this has something to do with the DST change. Any thoughts on what might have happened? Anyone else experience unreliable alarms after the DST change?

Welcome to the discussions Jennifer.
It sounds like you have more serious problems than a missed alarm!
To establish whether your problems are user-based or system based, you could make a new user, log on as that user, and run iCal. Add a few events, set a few alarms, make an extra calendar or two (but don't subscribe to any) quit and restart iCal a couple of times and let us know how you get on.

My MacBook Pro X.6.8 NO DISPLAY after restarted during software update.

My MacBook Pro X.6.8 after I did software update for 2 files, then restart/rebooted and when it resume back NO DISPLAY, totally black screen. I believed It's working in the background coz when I pressed buttons it makes sounds, so that's good but how can I see and bring back the display? I didnt so anything special. Prior to software update I did update my Adobe Flash for the latest version..
Please help anyone, I need my MacBook Pro to resume back to normal, I have many pending job to finish.. I hope the problem is only the display screen and not worst, coz I can't see and verify.

Oh No, still the same.. I follow exactly what you said, still no display.
I hear rebooting sound, like its normal, just missing my screen.
How come this happen, it works perfectly fine, I just want to update coz I had a message prior, so I did, but I just check first what are those needed to update. I saw Itunes v.11 and security patch update, something like that..
Then when it rebooted no more display.

I've just brought my first ever parts for my first ever computer build.....fitted everything perfectly and booted....
1st: logo screen came on
then another screen came saying low battery, thunxsomething...IDE, bios clock unset...."hard drive not detected"
3rd: screen came up asking either f1 to go into bios f2 to load defualts
i pressed f2 little dash flashes in the top corner
rstarted with second {the same procedure as explained }try ubuntu live usb loads......
after shutdown and installation of OS
i attempt to troublkeshoot the issue of bios time, IDE, and no hard drive detected
by going into the bios... which was totally from whats expected i.e. in colomns instead rows
i was expecting bios style shown below however after thought i got adjusted to the new rows one

How to keep items on ATV after deleting them on iTunes library

does anyone know how to delete movies/tv shows on the computer's hard disk/i tunes library without loosing them on the ATV after the next sync. My problem is that I am only using a Laptop and my HD is already full and I want to delete some of my movies/tv shows on it and I want to keep them on the ATV. However even if I go to manual sync and uncheck the specific items ATV will delete these movies from its storage upon the next sync process. So is there a way to keep items on the ATV after deleting them in the iTunes library?

Unfortunately, that's not how it's supposed to work.
The important thing to appreciate is that AppleTV is not like an external storage/backup device as you cannot ordinarily get files from it should you need to transfer them elsewhere or you lose the originals. You must back up anything you'd hate to lose in some other way.
Many of us attach an external USB drive to the computer, migrate the iTunes library to that, and stream most content, however that is less practical with a laptop if you need the laptop to be mobile and to use AppleTv when it's on the move.
One thing you could try is to test delete a file from the iTunes library manually. In that way iTunes still holds a reference to the file but complains it can't find it. Not sure if this still causes file deletion from AppleTV as the item is still referenced in the database but you could try it and see (make sure you copy the file somewhere safe first!).

[SOLVED] how to keep urxvt / xterm scrollback after ssh exit

Hey Guys,
Would really appreciate some help. How do you keep the scrollback history in urxvt after exiting a ssh session? After closing the SSH session it appears to do a reset (the inital ssh command is not even shown, but all command prior to ssh are still in scrollback). xterm does the same thing, but terminator keeps the scrollback after exit.

How to control detail records displayed after requery

I have a master/detail form. I did not like the behavior of the screen clearing after I did a save so I added code to requery the master/detail records. There is still one behavior which I need to fix -- after I requery the master and detail records, I always get the first set of detail records, not the set of records displayed on the screen when I did the save. So if I have detail rows 40-50 displayed on the screen and do a save, the master/detail rows are requeried but I see rows 1-10 on the screen, not 40-50. Any ideas how to code around this?

This is due in part to the fact that detaching the detail object from its master and actually deleting the detail object are two different things. To work around this, add the following in your session bean, where Departments and Employees are your master/detail objects, respectively:

E72 keeps ringing at display after answer button i...

I have a problem with my E72.
The phone keeps ringing in the display for about 20-30 sec after I have pressed the answer button. The phone call gets connected but not in the display. I also have the bluetooth headset BT-215 with vibration and that also vibrates during this period but I can speak and hear as normal.
Does anybody have a solution for this problem?
I´ve tried the do a hard reset and upgraded the firmware but it doesn´t work any better.

I got the issue solved - I turned all devices off, then on again. Turned FaceTime off (then on) on all devices. FaceTime and call sync working great.

MiniDVI with Dual Link won't display after restart

I have a bizarre problem I can't find and hope to get some help.
I have a brand new late 2009 Mac Mini 2.53Ghz with 4Ghz of RAM running OSX 10.6.1 and Vista Ultimate 32bit via Bootcamp 3.0 drivers.
I have the Mini DVI Dual Link adapter so I can use my 30" Apple Display.
When I run Vista Ultimate, the display works fine, unless I run a restart to reboot Windows. When that happens, the mini seems to cycle just fine, but there is no video on the monitor. Sound works fine, and nothing seems amiss with the Mac Mini except that there is no video.
If I then cut the power to the Mac Mini (not a nice thing to do!), when power comes back it reboots and the display works fine with full video.
This must be some foolishness associated with the use of the Mini DVI output into the Mini DVI Dual Link adapter, but there is no other choice in the matter with the latest Mini.
Any suggestions?

I purchased the same computer: 2009 Nov 16, Mac Mini, 4GB RAM.
Computer runs great with the dual-link video adapter connected to my 30" Apple display.
I installed Boot Camp 3.0, Windows 7 32 bit (Business).
The video driver (by default is a 2006 Microsoft version) and only support a max resolution of 1600 x 1000 (aprox - sorry not in front of it at the moment).
I downloaded and installed the latest Windows 7 driver from nvidia to hopefully correct the problem, but matters worsened, with the max resolution dropping to 800x600. I backed out the latest Nvidia driver and am back to the Windows default - which is OK, but not nearly the resolution that I paid for and presently enjoy with MAX OS X.
Does anyone have a solution?
