How to keep many apple computers updated?

As time passed, we have many, many computers around our institution. At some point, users were able to update their individual software without admin assistants. However, we have changed the policy, and users can't do this anymore. Therefore, is there an easy way to push updates to multiple apple computers?
The apps that need to be updated include:
1. Apple OS
2. Individual Applications
3. Apple Firmware
4. etc.
If you could list what product works best, and if Apple does have a in-house solution.
Thanks

HI,
I use ARD to ''sofware update'' all my macs with a unix command line.
But I try to ''batch'' update all the applications ( like FinalCut, Compressor, ILife etc ) in the AppStore  ?
Have you been able to update all the applications in the AppStore ?
thanks

ONce you hit play, press either Start Main/Cyl UP button on the front panel,
once you start observing the waveforms, you can press the Cyl_Dwn button on the front panel... You can observe that the state changes to Start Counter state,
and the waveform chart also stops updating... I would like both the waveform charts to conitnuously show the data even if the state is changed....

  • TA24326 How do you repair Apple Software Update in Windows 7?

When I open iTunes it says a new version (10.6.3) is available, and I click on "download" but nothing happens.  I then go to Apple Software Update and no updates are found.

After a month of waiting & having same problem as you, today when I turned on my computer an Apple Software Update appeared right on my desktop telling me to download the new update.  I did & it downloaded just fine.  I assume it should be coming to your computer soon also.
Yeah ... it's a bit "patchy" though, Sassy. It can come right for some people and yet not for others ... and there's been a few reports in some of the bigger threads of it coming right for some folks and then going silly again (for the same folks).
A good rule of thumb with this one is that if you do get a "window" where ASU seems to work fine, get as many updates done as you can (just in case the window closes again).

  • HT2305 how do I download apple software update for windows 7?

I somehow lost the Apple Software Update program on my Windows 7 laptop. Is it needed? if so, where do I find it to download it?

It's possible to keep up to date by downloading installers for new versions of software from the Apple downloads site:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/
... if your ASU has just been uninstalled, an update using one of those installer bundles would most probably also reinstall ASU.
If your ASU is damaged in some way, however, that can lead to some troubles using the installers downloaded from the downloads site. For example, see the following user tip:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." error messages when installing iTunes for Windows
... so it might be worth investigating a repair install of ASU (as per the instructions in that user tip), if you've got iTunes installed and want to keep that up to date.

  • How can I remove Apple Software update from Programs in Control Panel. I grt a message that there is an error in Windows Installer Package?

I get this message: "A program required for this install to complete could not be run.
There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package". OS, Windows 7-64

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • How do I get Apple to update timezone quickly?

    Hi all.
How do I make contact with the appropriate team at Apple to have the timezone data updated as soon as possible?
The local time law has been change (actually, twice this year). The old law indicated that DST was to be changed back to winter time on September 8th. The newest law says it will change on October 27th.
I checked on the Mac, first in Terminal and then figured out a way to check this in the GUI. My 10.6.8 will switch the clock back (or rather, change the UTC offset from 3 hours to 2 hours) on September 8th. This is not good, and it's very soon.
I'm not sure what the situation is with the newer systems - Lion and Mountain Lion.
On Linux machines, this situation is corrected by updating the tzdata package. The tzdata files have already been updated and are now at version 2013d which reflects the correct time law. I believe Apple is using the same data, but I'm not sure what will happen if I compile and change the files manually. And anyway, it's not just my problem - it's every user (who still uses 10.6.8, assuming the problem is fixed in newer versions) here in Israel and everybody who sets meetings etc. with people in Israel.
To check whether the zone is correct in Terminal I used:
    $ date -v +1m
    Thu Sep 26 21:57:01 IST 2013
(This reflects what the time zone will be a month from now. It's IST and it's supposed to be IDT)
    And also, this:
    $ zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2013
    /etc/localtime  Thu Mar 28 23:59:59 2013 UTC = Fri Mar 29 01:59:59 2013 IST isdst=0
    /etc/localtime  Fri Mar 29 00:00:00 2013 UTC = Fri Mar 29 03:00:00 2013 IDT isdst=1
    /etc/localtime  Sat Sep  7 22:59:59 2013 UTC = Sun Sep  8 01:59:59 2013 IDT isdst=1
    /etc/localtime  Sat Sep  7 23:00:00 2013 UTC = Sun Sep  8 01:00:00 2013 IST isdst=0
The date on the last two lines should be October 27th rather than September 8th.
In the GUI, what I did was create an event in local time in Calendar, and then change its time zone to UTC. The event jumps 3 hours before September 8th, and 2 hours after it.

These timezone definition changes are fairly common, when viewed world-wide.
For notifying Apple, contact the folks at the Apple Support Center or (if you have access) log a bug report.  (The folks at Apple might or might not notice any postings made here.)
For the immediate case, updating the timezones yourself is straightforward; the sequence is basically the same on Linux, OS X, Unix and even OpenVMS.  Ugly, but it works.  (The US folks got to see this mess first-hand a few years ago, but there are other locations that see these sorts of timezone definition changes far more often.)
For those following along that aren't familiar with this sequence, this old posting should get you close when rebuilding your definitions, though the timezone database has moved to IANA.

  • HT1600 how long does the apple tv update take

How long does it take to download the update for Apple tv?  It has already been 2 hours and it has not moved.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't do much else besides pull the plug. If it causes further problems you should be able to restore as below:
Get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
On the other hand you may be able to simply start the update again. If however the update continues to fail, you should try the restore routine above.
