How to keep my iPod from breaking

I bought a 40gb (4th gen) iPod in Feb '05. I just recently received my 6th replacement for it. Yes, it's broken 6 times. Always hard drive problems and this most recent break, a complete break (wouldn't do anything other than sad iPod icon, all diagnostic tricks I know failed).
When I was at the Genius bar for the 5th replacement, the "genius" treated me like a criminal. He lobbed accusations at me fast and furious, convinced that I was doing something to keep breaking my iPods. After all, it's impossible that so many replacements would break for one person, right?
But I don't mistreat my iPod. I don't jog with it. I've never dropped it or spilled liquid on it. I keep it in a protective case and I only use it for listening through my car stereo.
But now that I've gone through 6 previous iPods, I'm really concerned that maybe I am the cause of the problem. But I can't think of why or what I can do to avoid this repeating problem. Of course the "genius" didn't offer any ideas either.
A friend thought perhaps the vibrations of my car are causing failure since I mount it on my dashboard. Anyone think there's any merit to this idea? If that's the case, I'm more than a bit ticked since what good is a portable music player if it can't even survive car travel (I don't even go offroading)?
Can anyone else suggest anything I may be doing to break these iPods? Or is Apple just taking broken iPods in at the service center and resending them as "refurbished" to schmucks like me who get a few months of life out of them before they go kaput again?

Hi, have just joined this forum since receiving my 4th Gen Ipod back from apple - unfortunatley my warranty expired last Nov -so I had to pay to have it repaired £79.95 (new battery) they telephoned to say it was a hardware problem and I needed to send another £166.00 which I did and they have sent me back a replacement (which is obviously one that has been repaired). My son has just bought himself a new colour video ipod for £249.00 - I should have just done the same - I feel cheated

How do I stop iTunes from breaking out all the songs in one album into multiple albums when the artist has many collaborators on the different songs, for example Timbaland?  I want to just listen to the full album with all the songs, instead of having to play every song separately.

  • How to keep homesharing active from iTunes on Lion OS?

I have 4 Macs (w MBPs, 1 iMac, 1 Mac Mini) and 2 Apple TVs (latest). Only the Mac Mini is on Lion OS (10.7.4) since that is what it came with new. I use it to serve my media to the Apple TVs, but they can also get served from the other 3 Macs (all on Snow Leopard 10.6.8).  Only the Mac Mini on Lion drops homesharing when not in use - the other Macs on Snow Leopard keep homesharing alive. While it is actively streaming, the Mini does not drop the feed.  I have the Mac Mini set to never go to sleep or or to screen saver, so it should remain accessible via homesharing.  But if I don't use it for an hour or two, it drops out of homesharing - and it is the only Mac to do so.  I can get it back by quitting then restarting iTunes or by shutting down homesharing and restarting it while keeping iTunes open.  Of course, a restart of the mini would also bring back full functionality.  None of these are acceptable when you are sitting in another room trying to access media via Apple TV.  As a result of the above, I am assuming that the problem is isolated within Lion OS and how it supports iTunes.
I have seen other discussions claiming Apple TV drops out, but my problem is definitely the Mac Mini on Lion since at the same time I can see it drops from the other Macs and not just from Apple TV - all homesharing devices lose sight of the Mini but keep seeing each other.
I'd love to downgrade my Mini to Snow Leopard but apparently can't. I'd buy an older used Mini, but I need HDMI - so, I'm stuck until this is fixed. My other devices will definitely stay on Snow Leopard until I see this problem resolved by Apple.
Any suggestions on how to keep homesharing alive with iTunes on Lion?

Everything that is on your ipod should also be on your computer.  is it not?

  • Keep Korean font from breaking up in game

I have tried EVERYTHING, and I just can't figure out how to keep the Korean font from breaking up when I'm playing a Korean game. I tried to change the encoding over and over again, resetted safari, and even looked for a korean language pack but nothing works. I can read Korean fine on websites but the font breaks up into jibberish when I start playing the game. Is there a solution to this? It's driving me crazy. I'm using a Macbook Air 2011 with mountain lion.
    Thanks.

You cant delete an Apple ID permanently, you can just stop using it. Your GameCenter is linked to the Apple ID that your phone uses to download stuff. So whatever ID is linked to your phone when you download things from th AppStore and iTunes is also the account that is linked to your GameCenter. if you keep switching accounts thats why the random accounts keep popping up, just stick to one and you should be grand.

How do I upgrade iPod touch from 4.3.5 to 5.0.1

Okay First you have to have the latest version of iTunes witch is 10.5.3. Then connect your iPod . Go to your Itunes bar on the left and click your ipod. Then click update as long as it is a 3rd or 4th generation.  Then when you get it updated you can update right from your ipod in settings

  • How to keep a subject from being affected by a mask

i have a shot in an office where i have a subject walking in front of some really bright windows.  i added an adjustment layer and made 6 mask squares over the windows and brought down the brightness a bit.  of course when the subject walks in front of those windows you can see the shaded mask on him.
im not sure what you call it but what do i do to him to keep the mask from showing on him?
not sure if i should make another thread but ill ask this as well in here...in the same shot because of the bright windows originally the rest of the scene inside the office is dark.  how do i brighten the rest of the scene without affecting the windows?  i tried duplicating the adjustment layer with the 6 masks and inverting them so i can brighten everything but windows but no matter what i did i couldnt get it to work.
    TIA

think layers... you need to separate the person from the background on another layer with an animated mask. This is called Rotoscoping. RotoBrush is a tool that may work.
Same thing for your second question, LAYERS, not duplicate adjustment layers, but duplicate your scene, do your masking, apply adjustments and you will be OK.

  • How do I keep my iPod from deleting emails on other devices?

My wife and I share the same POP and iCloud account. When I delete email from my iTouch it deletes emails on all of our Macs. How do I keep this from happening?
I have my iPod set to delete on iPod only. Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendar> my POP account or IMAP> Out going Mail Server, Advanced> Mailbox Behaviors, Deleted Mailbox> and I have selected the setting: On My iPod.
I've been trying to find a way to change this behaiveour with out any luck. I have some friends with the same problem.
    Thanks!

A POP account does not syncronize the account among messages.
Could it be that your are deleting the messages from the server when you get the mail on your iPo
in Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendar> my POP account or IMAP> Out going Mail Server, Advanced> Mailbox Behaviors, Deleted Mailbox> set it to nerver remove messages from the server.

  • How do I keep my ipod from doing this?

My iPod touch is at its latest firmware, 5.1.1, and it is glitching all the time. These photos happened within a week of each other. Sometimes you have to notice where the status bar is. The simple passcode that I had for all of these was 3278. Sometimes I couldn't type the 7 or 8. The first two screenshots, I just unlocked it, but all the others, I had to restart the iPod.
Right here my password was "Apple." I typed A, then I realized that I couldn't type P. Somebody told me it is fixed in iOS 6, but my iPod, a 3g, has no more updates. Apple has even told me that the iPod 3g can't support any more updates. I don't believe that. My computer, from 1999, was updated to an update that it really shouldn't work, becuase it is too slow.  I don't like Apple's ways. If you buy a 3rd gen and they come out with a 5th, you should be able to upgrade. Like the AT&T videos. Upgrade when you want, not when you're told. If there is no solution, and my friends iPod I'm buying does this too, 4th gen, then I'm just going to switch to Android or Kindle or whatever. Apple just wouldn't be worth my time. Too confusing. I get an app on my iPad, plug it into iTunes, and it says it isn't autorized. I have my iPad synced with my mom's Apple ID and I used mine to get the app. So yeah. If it does this again, I'm switching to android.

I would just try restoring it in iTunes on a computer http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
You can create a backup in iTunes beforehand if you're concerned about losing any data other than applications and music (which can just be resynced to the iPod).
If there's something you don't like about Apple software or procedures you can always go to apple.com/feedback in stead of venting on forums where nobody can acutally do anything about it.
