How to keep Preview from crashing in Lion?

I'm really frustrated with Lion on many counts, but today it has stopped my workflow completely.
I'm doing simple crop, resize in Preview.
Because of the idiotic elimination of "Save As" and the default change of JPG to PNG, I do this:
1. Open original jpg.
2. Duplicate (feel frustration at no "Save As"....wonder why Apple did such a stupid thing)
3. Open Adjust size.
4.  Set size to standard inches, in this case "8 inches" from appoximately 50 inches in jpg.
5. Set dpi to 200 from default 350.
6. Try Export (feel frustration at no "Save As...wonder why Apple did such a stupid thing)
7. Crash.
Do 1-6
Crash
And so on.......
I am using brand new $2400 iMac 27 with completely stock software and all current upgrades.
Any insight?
Does going back to Snow Leopard really work?
(.....when store opens, going to buy Adobe Photoshop Elements.......and will replace Aperture with Lightroom, and will buy Premiere......because may need to migrate away from my 8....hear that Apple?......eight Apple computers)

Apple does not "hear" here.   This is a user to user forum.   Call Apple Support by phone if you want to communicate with them, or post to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ if you just want them to know what you think about certain products, or sign up for a free online developer account http://developer.apple.com/ and submit bug reports to http://bugreporter.apple.com/ if you have a detailed reproducible bug with the operating system.
Have you run the hardware test that came with the Mac?  See this link.
If you have a brand new Mac, it likely can't be downgraded to Snow Leopard.  See what I have to say on the Snow Leopard tip at its bottom.  If it is over 2 weeks old, you are beyond most store's return/exchange policy, but you should check with the store you bought at, if it is withing that range.    If it is outside that range, but less than a year old, you can buy AppleCare, for both hardware and software coverage within 3 years of date of purchase for anything that is not an accident or user caused, to deal with Apple hardware and software.  Otherwise it is first 90 days for software and phone, and first year for hardware as far as free coverage.
Define "crash?"  What do you see happen on screen?  Is there a four language screen saying you must restart your machine?  Do you just see a spinning cursor that is rainbow colored?  Have you tried the command-option-escape if it is the spinning cursor to see if you can force quit the application?    Do you see text with black background come across your screen?   Or do you just see applications quit on their own and it says: "this application has unexpectedly quit, other applications are not affected, report to Apple?"

  • How to keep Safari from crashing?

    1.25Ghz Powerbook running Panther 10.3.9
Safari "unexpectedly quits" - a polite way of saying a crash - never under the same circumstances. Never the same site, or the same page. 3 to 5 times a day.
I've removed and rebuilt the com.apple.safari.plist, and rebuilt permissions as well. No change
do I need to do a clean install of the OS to fix this?

    My victory was short-lived.
Safari no longer crashes all the time, just on certain websites--and systematically so.
One such site being http://macrumors.com. I've been using Safari on that site for ages, so I know this is a new issue. http://www.yahoo.com also makes Safari crash.
I've tried uninstalling SpeedDownloader (then reinstalling it when Safari would still crash anyway), using Onyx to clear the caches, reinitializing Safari, turning autofill options off, replacing the Safari on my computer with the one from my Power Mac (which is working fine there), deleting com.apple.Safari.plist in the Preferences folder, and even tried to reinstall Safari 1.2 only to get an error message saying Safari can't be installed on my operating system.
Here's my crash log. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

You can upgrade to Mavericks free, just run the App Store program and search for Mavericks. But before you do upgrade I recommend the following:
    1) make sure you have a recent backup. TimeMachine is fine.
    2) Mavericks is somewhat more memory hungry than 10.7 was. You will need 4 GB of RAM and I strongly recommend 8 GB.
Go back to the Apple menu and select About this Mac - look under the OS info you just looked at. You'll see how much RAM your computer has now. Then click on the More Info button. There you will see your computer info listed as in: iMac, 21.5" mid 2010, for example. Return back with that information and we can tell you how far the computer can be upgraded.
If you decide to procede and you have enough RAM upgrading to Mavericks is quite simple. Click on the download button and let it do its job.

  • How to setup Notifications from iCloud in Lion ??

How do I get Notifications from iCloud into Lion?  There seems to be no option for it.
From my iPad (IOS 5) I have selected iCloud for Notifications.
Whats the step for Lion ?
    Thanks for your help!

  • How to keep songs from the same album together in the Walkman app?

How do I keep songs from the same album together in one album instead of it being spilt up into three different albums? Is there any way to keep this from happening? I have all of the correct album information, but it still happens. I thought I would use Media Go and see if it helps but it never works properly.
Any suggestions would be much appreicated.

Make sure your Album information in mp3 tags is all the same in all tracks belonging to the same album.
Clear the cache memory of Storage Media service
    https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/WALKMAN/Multiple-Song-and-playlist-appear/m-p/732329?sl=y&sso_no_log=...
If, despite having the same album information in mp3 tags and clearing cache memory, you still get multiple entries or songs belonging to the same album are split into 2-3 albums, then I suggest an easy way.
Use Winamp and create an *.m3u playlist in the same directory you have the mp3 files stored in your phone. This playlist will then appear in Playlists - My Playlists and you will be able to enjoy your music in correct order of tracks and all the tracks will be there.
That is my method (using m3u Winamp playlists) simply because Walkman app does not respect the Track Number tag in mp3 files belonging to the same album and rather sorts the tracks within the same album based on Date Created.

  • How to keep icons from piling up on the dashboard.  I understand they soak up battery power.

How do I keep icons from appearing on the iPad dashboard when moving around the Internet?  I understand they use up battery power.

When you close them from the task bar, you are not deleting the app, just closing it down. Most of them are not using any power at all, just are there because you recently used them, but some do use power, or keep some memory.  It is a good idea to double click and shut them down at least daily, if not more often.

    Running Acrobat X Pro.
Occasionally, a website with a PDF triggers Reader to be installed on my system.
NEVER want reader (that's why i bought Pro).
How do i keep Reader from EVER being installed?

I don't get a pop-up. Something triggers the Reader installer to be loaded on my system. This occurs without my knowledge. Then, the next time i go to open a PDF, instead of it opening immediately with Acrobat Pro, I get the first screen of the installation stuff for Reader (Accept/Decline Terms of use, etc.). At this point, i get out of the install, go into control panel and uninstall Reader (which is listed as a loaded program, even though i haven't finished the install). After i uninstall reader and open a PDF, it opens correctly with Acrobat Pro. This happens once or twice a month at least. Is it possible that the Adobe Acrobat Update Service task loads Reader on my system at some interval? How do i block Reader form EVER being installed or loaded?

You can also decide how much to have it load, and how far back.
The other option is to turn off Wifi before you launch Mail.
