How to keep quality of stills in FCP?

Hi guys
I´m a cameraman not an editor and have a few questions for you.
I have a project coming up where we will do the whole film as a series of stills.
The stills will be shot using a Canon digital SLR camera, then imported to FC
Now, is it a way to import these stills and work with them, make an edit and be able to export the final film either to HD tape or 35mm print with out the stills loosing quality?
I guess it might be a way to work with proxy copies of the stills, then when the edit is finished, somehow replace them with the originals?
Could I even do this in FCE, or is Pro needed?

I'd use After Effects at 4k resolution and work closely with your transfer house's engineers BEFORE you start the project. Get their specs and work backwards from there.
FCP could be where you assemble the project's movies form other applications but your moves and effects should be composited in software designed for the job. FCP's motion editing interface is impossibly lame and the rendering capabilities are inappropriately coarse for hi-rez motion graphics.
FCP will handle the editorial and assembly/output tasks easily and can be used with low to medium rez proxies for rough editing. Substituting out your proxies for your high res images and high rez movies can be tricky in FCP so build lots of time into your schedule to get it right.
BTW, there's nothing new about these production techniques. I don't know where else you're looking but there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of blogs and production reports on rostrum camera production technique, including stuff by that Kent Burned guy.

Please help, very frustrated how to keep quality

ok my question is a concern i have with HD video. My goal is to import the footage into FCE, edit and then finish the project and burn to a DVD with or as close to the same quality i shot in.
I shot HD footage using an HVX200 on a p2 card. The settings were 720p 24fps 16:9.
the method of burning i was taught was to export the FCP session as a quiktime then use IDVD to burn.
Some issues i have had in the past is stretched picture,bad quality too compressed.
I just want to see if there are anyways that worked for you guys i can go by. Thank you so much for your help, first time poster long time reader.

Hey thank you very much for the reply. I was alittle lost in that thread because it went to talking about putting the file on a USB then to HDMI etc. I got lost cuz that's not really what i am asking.
The one part i get is that you can't burn HD because there is no such thing as HD DVD.
What i am asking is to keep as close as i can, is there anything i should know before importing my footage info FC like session settings etc and what are the settings i should use when exporting to quick time. Actually maybe i should mention the purpose and how the video will be used. I will be using it for high quality facebook video, and high quality youtube.
My main goal is to have it 16:9 without it looking stretched just fitting to whatever it's being viewed on?

Hello, here is my problem: reading your mozilla support, I learned how to make Firefox open links in Google results in the same tab, that's the way I like it, but I still like to have my YouTube windows pop-up in a new tab (I participate in one forum, when I come to the YouTube window in some topic, I usually click on a small right-down button "watch on YouTube", and that always opens video it in a new tab; all until latest few updates of Firefox). Can this issue be corrected in about:config feature, and how? Sorry if my English isn't so glorious.

Hello. I have just tried this add-on you suggested, and no change.
And no, there was no some other add-on before, not that I know about it. Mainly, I need this option while I'm on a forum (IP board powered), it is not really something so important, but it's neat function for me.
So, to be more detailed - I read a certain topic on this forum, and some of the posts from other members contain YouTube screens (looking same as on the original YouTube page), showing the frame of a video.
In earlier versions of Firefox, I used to click on a small YouTube logo button (right side, down, between "watch on full screen" and "watch later" buttons). Clicking on this button automatically opened new tab, leaving forum tab as it is, and in new tab original YouTube page, with that certain video. In the same time, in Google search page, when clicking on a link, all links were opening in the same tab.
Now, after some of the latest updates of Firefox, I noticed that some default settings were changed - in Google search, clicking on a link always opens a link in a new tab. I have found out here on your forum how to set this back in about:config feature, and now I have again that links in a Google results page are opened in the same tab (that's the way I like it).
But YouTube screens on this forum are now also being opened in the same tab, and that is what I don't like, and trying to change back.
So, what I need: all links to open in the same tab after clicking, as I have it now, and YouTube screens (e. g. on this forum) to be opened in a new tab (by clicking on a small YouTube logo ("watch this video on YouTube").
Pedantic I am, I know that, and I know that this may look silly to some people, but if there is a way to do something, please tell me.

How to keep quality for 720x576?

I'm making videos that will be displayed on 2nd hand 720x576 TV's. Before I knew that specification I was making the videos at 1080p and the quality was right. This is a large scale installation with many TV's synced together so I need the videos to be M2T and MPEG2 to fit with the system we are using.
I've tried exporting my 1080p project from premiere down to 720x576 MPEG2-DVD, (with top quality settings). I've tried making the video project 720x576 and exporting to that same size. I've tried converting the 1080 video down, (I've tried many programs including HandBrake).
The video just contains text scrolling up (like conventional movie credits). I've made this in Indesign to the same frame size as the Premiere file and exported to JPEG because InDesign doesn't export to anything better than I can see and Photoshop doesn't let me justify the text like it needs to be.
I have Premiere Pro CS5.5.
Any help would be great!

There are some rules associated with titles in DV.

Also, the speed of the scroll matters when working with interlaced footage. If the scroll looks wrong, change the speed ever so slightly. Keep doing that until you are happier with the results.

How to improve quality of stills exported from FCE?

I am in the habit of exporting a still from video to use on the opening screen of iDVD and the DVD label. I've noticed that the quality of the stills I'm exportng from FCE is much worse that the quality I get from iMovie from the same piece of video. I am wondering if I have the playback settings in FCE at less than optimal and so the stills are not as good?
To export I use Quicktime Conversion and export as a jpeg at 29.97 fps.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. This is what I am doing and selecting "highest quality". It seems the playback in FCE isn't as good as in iMovie and so the frame I am selecting isn't as good either. Do I possibly have some setting that is making the playback of lesser quality? The video is fine when I export it and burn it to disk.

How to keep photos and still download ios7 on Ipad?

I use my IPad as a camera. To take photos of construction jobs I have done. I want to download the IOS7 update for my IPad, but have been told I have to remove my photos from my IPad to make room for the download. I purchased additional storage which I thought would provide the needed space, but now I am told that storage space was for ICloud, and not for the storage space needed for the program download. I need to have my photos left on this IPad for my job. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Storage space on iCloud and your iPad are two different things.
The iOS 7 update is approximatley 3GB's in size.
Tap Settings > General > About > Available.
Make sure there's at least 4GB's available space before updating to iOS 7.
Instead of removing photos to free up storage space, try deleting apps you not use often.

What version is your database? DBCA in 10gR2 allows you to create a template from an existing database using only the structure. From DBCA

I have a Macbook Pro 15" that is three and a half years old. Although it has slowed a bit, it still runs well and runs every program I need. Any tips for how to keep this old computer running well and in good health?

I have a 250 gig drive and try to keep at least 100 gigs unused at all times, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, back up with Time Machine and CrashPlan, and have OS X 10.7.3.
This was my first Mac since an old Apple II GS. After that I used PC's and got really good at reformatting, replacing drives, reinstalling, defragging, resolving software conflicts, etc. Since switching back to Macs (five in my extended family now), I haven't had to do any of those things. So, although, the cost is three times as much, the aggrevation has been ten times less.
I'm retired and living on a fixed income and would therefore like to keep this computer running as opposed to constatntly upgrading.
That said, any tips?

It does have a crack on the left of the screen case about 3/4'' up from the bottom. I've posted that as another question.

For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior. Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):

Synk Pro
Synk Standard
Tri-Backup

Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.

Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Adding more RAM, if feasible, and a new, faster hard drive may also help pep it up a little.

1. what s good to keep battery life optimized. to keep the charge plugged on even it is fully charged or plug it off when it is fully charged ? also should i allow the laptop to empty fully sometimes by not plugging it in about 10% ?
2. u know when you first buy your laptop keyboard and plastic parts are matte. i hate when keyboard and other plastic parts getting shiny and a bit look oily because of usage. is there a way to keep them clean always and not shine ?
also i hate when some dust and other dirts get inside - between the buttons on keyboard. how to avoid that ?
3. which equipments or things to use to clean LCD monitor and other parts ?

How do i keep the VITC information in FCP

when i import clips into FCP with the Kona 3 card, it removes the VITC. does anyone know how to keep the VITC information when importing into FCP?

Does it? How do you know? I never had the VITC information go away. When I capture footage from a tape, the TC that I have in FCP is the same I have on the tape.

QT - want to know how to resize HD movie trailer from FCP for email!

I need to export a FCP movie (2 min. 30 sec) as a QT file to email. I'm new to this and am having no luck in figuring out how to do this. I have HD format, 16:9 ratio. Do I go into Compressor, or QT Conversion? I need to have good quality, yet still be able to have a size I'm able to email.

Forget about trying to attach a QuickTime file into the restricted space of an email.
Most ISP's limit the file size of attachments (.Mac limit is 10 MB's) and your two and a half minute HD file would consume that much in just a few seconds.
Serve large files from your .Mac iDisk and email just the URL or find (Google) some of the free file sharing services for your QuickTime file.
iWeb, iMovie and iPhoto (part of iLife 08) can help you make Web based files served from your .Mac account ($99 a year for 10 GB's of storage).

How to keep the WBS & Order in account assignment tab of SD contract item?

Hi Experts,
If I remove the plant from the shipping tab in the contract item (the contract type is WV), I will be able to enter the WBS or Order in accounting assignment tab. However, if I enter the plant (in order to determine the tax in pricing), the WBS and Order are disappered and there is one new settlement rule button showed up.
Do you know any configuration could keep the WBS and order in the accounting assigment tab even the plant is there.

Thanks for your answer. However, I even added the plant in the WBS, the tax (we use tax jurisdiction) still could not be determined.
The problem is that SAP changes the account assignment tab screen (it suppresses the WBS and Order fields, but addes settlement rule) with the plant in the shipping tab. Do you know how to keep the same account assignment tab screen with the plant in the shipping tab?

Migrating Presets does not require a network connection and you can still migrate your cc presets if you still have CC installed. Use Photoshop menu Edit>Presets>Migrate Presets... Migrating presets only migrates presets. It does not migrate Plugins, settings, extensions and scripts. CC 2014 is also not completely backwards compatible with CC. Support for Flash Panels and Oil Painter filter have been removed. So extensions like mini bridge no longer work in CC 2014
