How to keep selected parts of a clip in PRE9/Mac?

Sometimes I wish to make the following: insert a (e.g.) 10-minute clip in the timeline, and then keep only portions of it, for example: 2nd-3rd minute and 5th minute. It is something that I can do, for example, with Elgato Turbo.264 HD Software Edition, but I haven't found yet how to achieve it with PRE9/Mac. Please notice that I do NOT refer to simple trimming offered through in and out markers.
Any help/suggestions?

Thanks for that. It appears that Elgato can set multiple In & Out Points for a Clip at the same time. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any such feature in PrE (or PrPro). I think that this would be a good subject for a Feature Request, as I can see why you'd like to do it this way.
Even with the Trim Monitor in PrPro, I do not think that this is possible, but will check. Obviously, that will not help PrE users, but would point up that in the "big brother" program, PrPro, it is possible, so should not be all THAT difficult to implement in PrE - maybe PrE 10?
Thanks for educating me on Elgato. I see where that could possibly save a bit of time.
One more question: after you have set the In & Out Points to basically create Instances from that Clip, do you just drag to the Timeline, and all Instances come in, and butt-up to each other? If so, pretty neat, and it would save a couple of Click-drag operations.
Good luck,

  • How do I select part of a clip to import in Final Cut Pro 10.0.7?

Greetings. I'm a newby in FCPX.  I've been watching Michael Wohl's tutorial and it looks like I should be able to mark parts of clips stored on my HD to import into the event browser.  But I don't seem to be able to mark the clips with either the "i o " keys or dragging.  Only the full length clip can be selected. Is this feature diabled in 10.0.7  or am I missing something?  I also don't seem to have the film strip/list icons at the bottom of the Media Import window.  thanks!

This capability only exists when importing from a camera card or camera archive.

  • Fcpx - after selecting part of a clip, marking in and out, pressing the e key does not add it to the timeline.  what do I do?

At the Mac store they showed me how to select part of the clip, Mark in an out, and then use the key board shortcut, the E, to move back down to the end of the timeline. At home it refuses to do that. I can't even drag it down. I am using Snow Leopard, not lion. Can anybody tell me why I can't get the material down to the timeline except as an entire clip?

I was stuck in this exact same position yesterday, and wow was it ever frustrating. I can't remember the exact steps I stumbled upon to figure it out, but basically you need to create a "project" (not a "sequence" like you'd think - there is no "new sequence" command in FCP X) and that "project" will in fact be the sequence you are able to add your selections to.
The same real estate the sequence lives in is also where the "project library" lives, which will overtake your sequence if invoked - look to make sure the film reel icon at the bottom left of the screen is not active (blue). If it is active, click it to make the project libary go away.
I'm still struggling with FCP X as a long time professional FCP 7 user, and from what I've read this isn't uncommon. Best of luck getting past these fisrt few awkward hurdles and onto the actual editing (which, I have to say, so far I am having a hard time being precise or creative with).

  • How can I edit part of a clip

How can I edit part of a clip in iMovie.

First, select the portion of the clip that you would like to edit. Do this by dragging your mouse. A yellow border should be around this portion of the clip.
Next, right-click inside the yellow border and select SPLIT CLIP. Now you have a separate clip that you can apply your edit to.

  • Is there a way to place markers in a multicam clip, and then have those same markers carry over when you select part of the clip for a project (or various projects)?

Is there a way to place markers in a multicam clip, and then have those same markers carry over when you select part of the clip for a project (or various projects)?

Thanks. Beforehand, I was double clicking on the multicam clip and forced to make a marker on either the Cam A or B. I realize now that I can do it in the Event Browser. THANK YOU.
Considering I may create >20 markers per clips for around 10 different interviews, I wish there was a way to bring the Event Brower to the bottom half of the FCPX windows, to resemble the screen orientation when I'm working in an actual project (one could do this in iMovie), and this way the markers could be listed to the left without having all the other event clips around it. Is that clear? Is that possible?

  • How to mute selected region of a clip?

I know how to control volume of entire clip... But how to mute selected region of a clip?
Also I'm curious if iMovie'08 has some kind of audio frequency filter? My cam recorded it's lcd's whisltle sound. Is there a way to reduce it?

To mute a selected region of a clip in a project:
Select the region you want to mute by dragging the cursor while holding down the left mouse button. You should have a yellow rubber band around the portion you want to mute. You can adjust this further by grabbing the handles on either side of the yellow rubber band.
Now, select Edit/Split Clip. Your one clip should have become three clips. Select the one that you want to mute. Click the audio icon and set the volume to zero.
No way I know of to reduce the whistle within iMovie. You can share your movie and open it up in a Garageband project. There, you can do editing on the audio track with all the GarageBand Tools.

  • How to select parts of a clip in a project in iMovie 10.0.1

In the previous version of iMovie partial clip selection was possible just by dragging a left click over a clip within the movie clip project. Now in iMovie 10.0.1 the same left click dragging over the clip it's just for moving the entire clip to another position.
The only place where I was able to select a portion of any given clip is in the Event window, on the imported clips section.
Is it possible to select portions of a clip that it's already embeded into a movie clip project?
Thanks to all for your answers.

Further to Karsten's advice, position the skimmer (or the playhead) within the clip where you want to start your selection. Now click and hold down the mouse button (or trackpad). As you do this you will firstly see that the whole clip is highlighted with a thin yellow border. While still holding down on the click, you will then see a wider yellow vertical line on the clip, being the start point - drag this to mark your selection. Release the mouse button (or trackpad) once you've reached the end point of your selection.
If you wish to delete the segment that you've highlighted, just press the Delete key on the keyboard. Otherwise perform whatever other actions are available from the Modify menu item.
The key is to not release the mouse button after clicking on the clip. The selection border will appear within a millisecond after clicking and holding.

  • Audio in iMovie is silent when I select parts of a clip

I figured out how to turn on the audio for scrubbing in iMovie, and it worked, but it is still silent if I'm highlighting part of a clip to select it. I use iMovie all the time and in the past it has never done this. Any ideas of how to fix it?

  • How do I select part of a song?

I am creating some voice overs using songs from iTunes as background, and am using the Podcast part of Garageband for that. When I drag the song into Garageband, I have the whole song showing as a track. If I only want to use part of it, how can I select that part I want to use? Once I do select it, what next? In my first attempts, I have used the cycling selection as one means of doing this, but it seems like there should be an easier way. Thanks.
    Joe

Sorry, but I am brand new to Garageband, and am finding it very complex compared to other applications. When you say to drag the ends, I don't know where to find those. Do you mean in the track itself?
I am confused by what should be done in the track itself, versus the big section you get at the bottom when you double click on a track, versus the Podcast track, versus the bar at top if you use cycle or arrange.
Thanks for the link, I will read all of those, but I am really struggling with this app.
    Thanks.

  • How can I stretch part of a clip only?

I am trying to replace the originally recorded voice audio with a re-recorded, clean version. I used the Automatic Speecha Alignment tool and it did an OK job, but it's not quite perfect. I now need to adjust some parts of the clip that are not perfectly aligned, while leaving the parts that are already aligned correctly in place.
Is it possible to stretch part of a clip, leaving the rest where it is? I think of this like the After Effects Puppet tool, but for audio.

You might get on better with the original method if you break down the parts that you are having difficulty with matching into smaller sections, and reapplying the Speech Alignment Tool to them like that - which is, in a way, similar to what you'd have to do with the clips; ie, split them up.

  • How download only selected part of a podcast ?

    Hi,
anyone can help me to find a tip to download only a pattern matching selected part of a podcast feed?
For example, think about to download only the feed contents where the title contains a specific word . Is it possible in iTunes ?
    bye

Delete the tracks from the iTunes library, allowing iTunes to move the track files to the Trash. Then download the tracks again from the iTunes Store via this procedure:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
That fixes the problem for many people. If problems with the tracks persist, go here:
    iTunes Support
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

  • Newest iMovie - how to move selected parts of clips from events to trash

    Hello,
I have used to import clips to events and than trimmed them down with the function "reject selection" and than when I used "Move rejected clips to trash" or something like that, iMovie removed the selections from the clips and generated new clips ones. It was fast and very nice feature.
Now, with the new version I can't seem to find this functionality? Am I missing something?
    Kind regards,
    Uros

Got the same problem. The menu item has disappeared in this botched-up job of an iMovie upgrade. When I tried to select rejected clips/segments and move them to the trash I was told to wait until iMovie has finished running tasks and that I'm to check the activity indicator. Problem is, there're no running tasks and no activity indicator!

  • PE 4.0 - how do I make PART of a clip slow-mo??? is it possible?

I see many tutorials on how to make something slow motion, I understand fully how to do that. I'm a skateshop owner and have been filming recently, and have been teaching myself how to use Adobe Premiere Elements 4. I know how to make an entire clip slow motion, but I need to know how in the world do you make JUST a portion of a clip slow motion, or is it even possible in this program??? I've been racking my brain for days now, and I can't figure it out. help?

Glad that it got you what you needed. Sometimes, things are pretty simple. Other times, they require 40 pages of single-spaced type!
Also, though you did "cut" your Clip on the Timeline, PrE is a non-destructive editor, so your original Asset is untouched.
    Good luck,
