How to keep two HD's in sync?

How to keep two HD's in sync? They both contain my Sample Libraries, one is in my desktop the other in my laptop…essentially they contain the same items, but, the thing is: when I'm working on one I begin to delete, modify and add to the pool, and so the two become out of sync.
It's hard to know what exactly I've changed where. (So, what I usually do is take out things that I edit and re-save them separately, just in case, but this creates vast quantities of unnecessary duplicates).
So, what I'd like, would be if I could just keep both of the in sync somehow?
Here's what I'm thinking:
What if I was to use Carbon Copy Cloner, and just clone one onto the other, back and forth regularly? (Using incremental backup BTW) Would that be a good idea? I'd be worried that things might get corrupted by being overwritten/modified so regularly? Or would that be OK? I mean what if I had changed a small portion of a sample on one HD and then CCC'd onto the other, is it going to detect such a change? And will it always safely copy it across?
Thank you so much for any help.

If you are very strict about changing just one drive at a time, you can use CCC or ChronoSync and I think it will be fine.
BUT...if you are talking about making changes to both drives and trying to reconcile them, then you need ChronoSync or something similar. Because they allow you to preview exactly which files will be changed, in which direction, before you commit. I use a different utility (FoldersSynchronizer) for this purpose; it looks like ChronoSync achieves this through their Analyze window. At time I have stopped potential unintentional data loss by always previewing the changes.

  • Can't figure out how to keep two different sites...

How can I keep two sites and be able to get to both of them. When I create an iMovie and go to the share tab to share it wants to put it in the last site I created. What if that's not the site I want it on? I can't figure out how to go back and forth to the sites and update them without them writing over each other...

    Regarding Varkgirls suggestion about iWebSites:
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • Can I keep two iPhoto libraries in sync?

I have an iPhoto library on my MacBook Pro, and I have an iPhoto library on my iMac.  Both are recent models, and both are running up-to-date Lion upgrades. The libraries used to be the same, but they've diverged over the past several months as I've changed the way my iPhone, my iPad, my wife's iPhone, and my wife's iPad sync (mine now sync to the MBPro, her's to the iMac).  Is there a way to make sure that the libraries contain the same photos? How do I make sure I'm subrscibed to her Photo Stream and she to mine?
Is there a way to figure out what photos are in hers that aren't in mine, and what photos are in mine that aren't in hers?
    Thanks.

What do you mean by "Sync".
The general term means when two Libraries (A and B) are compared and files in Library A are copied to Library B, while files in Library B are also copied to Library A so that both Libraries are identical.
This is bi-directional copying and you cannot do this automatically with iPhoto. No Syncing software is capable of parsing the iPhoto Library in this manner. One or both of your Libraries will be damaged if you try this.
You can have uni-directional copying - files in Library A are copied to Library B - this is essentially backing up. Obviously you can also copy from Library B to Library A.
The nearest you can get to syncing is to use iPhoto Library Manager to move files/Albums/Events plus associated metadata between Libraries. This process cannot be automated.
AFAIK you can only log into a single Photostream at a time.

  • Keeping Two iTunes Libraries in Sync.

When iCloud became available, I was stoked to be able to sync the iTunes library on my work computer with my home computer. I thought that the cloud would keep my work computer up to date, updating new purchases automatically.  However, that doesn't seem to be the case.  My latest purchases on my home computer are not showing up on my work computer.  What do I have to do to keep these two in sync?  Is there a way to do it automatically?

Even though this is an old thread, one way to sync your iTunes library is to use rsync and Automator. If you're doing it that way, you can also sync your movies, audiobooks, podcasts, etc. from one computer to another which was an advantage for me. I just bought a MacBook Air and I had the same problem as you. Here's my solution: http://leolabs.org/blog/idevices/keeping-itunes-libraries-in-sync/

  • How to keep iPad and iPod apps sync separate if you are using the same PC for backups

Syncing the iPad and iPod using the same PC syncs the apps between the devices. How an Thisbe avoided I don't want to use the same apps in all my devices.

No problem.  The computer's iTunes keeps track by serial number.  The human keeps track by a unique name for each one.  In my case, the iPad is cleverly named "George's iPad" while the iPod is equally cleverly named "George's iPod."

  • Keeping two computers files in sync?

I have two MAC's and a family version of iLife '08. I would like to create a website using iWeb on one and have the ability to edit that site via ether of the two MAC's. Is there anyway to sync the files created by iWeb so I can edit on either computer?
I was hoping Apple would have adding this feature in iWeb '08 via .MAC syncing.

If you are working as a "family", the easiest way to do what you want is to set up a home network.
There are various ways of doing this. To get started, got to.........
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106461
When you have this set up, each computer will have an icon of the other computers hard drive on the desktop.
My youngest daughter does this, via my wireless network, when she comes to visit. This way she can "borrow" all my stuff!
Needless to say, you should make sure your wireless network is password protected.

  • How to keep E6 and N8 in sync with each other?

I've had an N8 for the last 6 months or so (coming from an E71!.)  I love the N8 hardware but, though I can manage, I do not love "touch."  I've been longing for the ability to slice through the Symbian layers that a hardware keyboard gives so I've ordered an E6.
I plan on using the E6 as my daily workhorse with the N8 interspersed.  Does anyone have suggestions for the best way to keep them in sync with each other?
    Many thanks,
    Michael

    Hi mknf,
Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
Which data/files are you trying to sync between the 2 phones? For the emails, this will still depend on the protocol that your provider is using. For POP mails, emails can only be accessed on 1 device while IMAP supports multiple device as it leaves a copy on the server.

  • How to keep Portal 6 systems in sync

    Hi,
Can Anyone please let me know if there are any solutions available for SAP EP6 to keep your Development, QA and Production environments in sync.
We need some tool or solution when creating a page or iviews or any object on the development environment to be 'Transported' across to all the other environments. Similar to the SAP TMS system on R/3. We tried coming up a solution but due to the fact that you do not have a centralized area where all the config is sitting and it's making our task very difficult.
Please assist, points will be rewarded.
    Kind regards,
    Morgan

    Hi,
As far as I know there is no transport system as in R3.  You have to use export packages.  You should have good control of what is in each transport package (using prefix for objects is one way).  Versioning of the transport packaged is a good idea.  Theese packaes are stored in a fileshare and loaded into test system.  If test is ok then packages can be loaded into prod system.  If test is not ok, I know some projects fix the problem, and load a second package into test for testing.  If this test is ok, both packages are loaded into prod system - this to ensure consistency in test and prod.
This only applies to the PCD content, not other config files.
    Hope this helps

  • How to guarantee two tables are in sync both ways on 10gR2?

a table at x database and b table at y database are wanted to be in sync.
if the request was in one way a dblink and a materialized view with refresh on commit would do the trick. but changes wanted to be replicated both ways, so I thought a trigger based solution but wanted to have your opinions if there is any clever trick for this kind of a need.
    Thank you.

please correct me if I am wrong, by streams you meand async change data capture from redo logs right? In my opinion this is not easy to configure, and since these are two small parameter tables, so it will be throwing a rock to a frog?

  • How to keep my album structure when syncing photos to pc

    Hello.

    Hi.
I had the same issue. I am not 100% sure, but please try this:
Keep your folders as they are. Use Aperture. Import all folders into Aperture.
Remember to select the option to copy all photos - is's possible to tell Aperture to just point at the original file so that no copying or moves are made.
In iTunes select "Aperture" in the "Photo" tab.
That should do the job - but I am not 100% sure.
Funnily the absolutely best way og viewing your photos is using an Xbox360 - but that requires your Mac/pc to be turned on all the time, because it only supports streaming. On the other hand the Xbox is MUCH quicker than Apple TV.
Please let me know if Aperture does the job for you...
Oh yes: iPhoto is a messy option: It insists to copy all photos into one extremely large file... Make me kind of unsure because I really can't control anything.
    Looking forward to other suggestions...

  • How to keep two libraries synchronized ?

I recently bought a laptop which I am going to use beside my regular PC. I installed iTunes on both PC's, but here comes the problem: those are not the same libraries. I of course could copy them once and it will look like they are the same, but in fact they aren't because when playing a song on my PC, the play count on my laptop won't be updated. So I want to keep both my libraries to be exactly the same (play count, date added, rating, everything). What's the best way to accomplish this ? I found SyncoTunes, but that doesn't update all of the data.
And then an even more impossible-to-solve problem: my iPod touch is now synchronized to my PC, but I'd like to be able to synchronize it with both my libraries (which should be the same).... Don't think that's possible though.
I know both of these problems are solved when using an external hard disk which I could plugin in both computers, but for now that's not an option. Is there any other way...?

I think you kind of covered all the possible, not so elegant but could work, solutions.
    Sorry,
    Patrick

  • How do I keep two iTunes users (my wife and I) libraries in sync?

Both my wife and I are iTunes users (using Windows OS'es) who purchase different music/songs onto each of our separate machines. Both of our machines are authorized computers of each other's purchased music.
What is the best way to keep the two music libraries on the two different systems in sync so both have the same music on them? Is there a way to backup system A and restore to system B so that only the new files are added to the music library on System B? If that works, I would then have to backup System B and restore to System A. Any help, advice, specific steps would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
