How to know the delay in redo log apply on Active Dataguard 11g

Hello All,
How to know the delay in redo log apply on Active Dataguard 11g...
Do we need to wait till log switch occurs?
Or is it recommended to schedule a log switch every 15 min, no matter data is updated/inserted or not in primary?
Please suggest...
Oracle : oracle 11g Release 2
OS : RHEL 5.4
Thanks

What is the redo transport service you are using? is it LGWR or ARCH ?
Output of query select * from v$parameter where name like 'log_archive_dest_2' shows below value...
SERVICE=b_stdb LGWR ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=b_stdb
So is it lgwr already configured...? if yes then how do i see the delay in both servers..
Yes, the network is good as they both resides in same LAN within same rack
Thanks...

  • How to increase the size of Redo log files?

    Hi All,
I have 10g R2 RAC on RHEL. As of now, i have 3 redo log files of 50MB size. i have used redo log size advisor by setting fast_start_mttr_target=1800 to check the optimal size of the redologs, it is showing 400MB. Now, i want to increase the size of redo log files. how to increase it?
If we are supposed to do it on production, how to do?
I found the following in one of the article....
"The size of the redo log files can influence performance, because the behavior of the database writer and archiver processes depend on the redo log sizes. Generally, larger redo log files provide better performance, however it must balanced out with the expected recovery time.Undersized log files increase checkpoint activity and increase CPU usage."
I did not understand the the point however it must balanced out with the expected recovery time in the above given paragraph.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

You dont have to shutdown the database before dropping redo log group but make sure you have atleast two other redo log groups. Also note that you cannot drop active redo log group.
    Here is nice link,
    http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Oracle/DBA_tips/Database_Administration/DBA_34.shtml
And make sure you test this in test database first. Production should be touched only after you are really comfortable with this procedure.

  • How we know the Number of users logged into stratus?

    Hai,
How can we  know the number of users logged into stratus? If we knows only,in our project we can check the users are valid/authenticated.can we check that?
    Advanced Thanx

Stratus is adobe service which provides you with p2p id or say all your
application's users a p2p id. Adobe doesn't have any admin section where you
can manage/see all connected p2p users in your application.
This you have to implement at your end in your application code i.e.
    authentication,validation and user counter.
    Thanks,
    Vivek.

  • How to know the size of archived logs created under ASM

    I using Oracle 10g on Linux x86-64.
I need to ship the archived logs(not the entire directory, only a few) from the Live database to the DR site, so I need an estimate of how much time it will take to ship them across the network ?
Is there anyway I can know the size of a specific archived log file stored under ASM ?
We can use du in ASM to know the size of directory but I dont find a command in ASM to get the size of a file ?

No we are also switching logfiles manually , so the maximum size may not
    have reached.
What I need is something like ls -l command in the Unix prompt which will
help us to find the size of the file , a similar command to help us determine
a size of file in ASM ?What is the objective?
Anyways, you can get the size of an archived log file by quering V$ARCHIVED_LOG view.

    Hi,
I am using Oracle Database 9.2.0.1.0. My present redo log files are of 100 MB each
(redo01.log,redo02.log,redo03.log) which tooks more time to swicth the logs.
I want to change the size to 20MB each so that log switcjing will be faster.

  • How to know the history of shrinking log files in mssql

    hello,
In my SAP system some one shrinked the log file to 100 GB to 5 GB.How we would check when this
    was shrinked recently .
    Regards,
    ARNS.

    hi,
Did u check the logfile in sapdirectory. There will be entry of who changed the size and the time.
    Also,
Goto the screen where we usually change the logfile size.In that particular field press f1 and goto technical setting screen. Get the program name , table name  and field name.
Now using se11 try to open the table and check whether the changed by value is there for that table.
Also open the program and debug at change log file process block.use can see in which table it update the changes.
There is a case of caution in this case.
The size of the application server's System Log is determined by the
following SAP profile parameters. Once the current System Log reaches
the maximum file size, it gets moved to the old_file and and a new
System Log file gets created. The number of past days messages in the
System Log depends on the amount/activity of System Log messages and the
max file size. Once messages get rolled off the current and old files,
    they are no longer retrievable.

Does anyone know how to enable the "Delete" key for logging on the Windows 7 partition on the latest iMac, via the latest Apple wireless keyboard - the standard wired apple keyboard works fine via this key but not the new wireless keyboard?
    Many Thanks

Holy crap, this fixes the issue.  At least temporarily it has.  I should add that my issue was single finger forward/back swipe stopped working on the magic mouse in Firefox since Mavericks came along.  I have been fighting this since I upgraded to Mavericks a few months ago.  Thank you, tbirdvet.  You have no idea how much easier you just made using my iMac again.

  • The stubborn standby redo log

I publish this question here, Due to the similarity between the technologies, and I know for you this is very familiar.
I have a dowstreams which has four standbys redo log groups. One of these groups is still in a redo of the day 23/04/2010. This old redo is not filed, always there.
this implies that the database downstreams only work with three groups of redo log and some oacaciones all these are in active status and at that time the view v $ archived_dest returns error for that destination (downstreams).
    The question is:
how I can eliminate that standby redo log which is not being archived.
Thank you very much for your attention

    I run this query
    SELECT GROUP#, THREAD#, SEQUENCE#, ARCHIVED, STATUS,FIRST_TIME FROM V$STANDBY_LOG;
    and it returns me

How often should a database archive its logs
Re: Redo log size increase and performance
Please read the above thread and great replies by HJR sir. I think if you wish to get concept knowledge, you should add in your notes.
"If the FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET parameter is set to limit the instance recovery time, Oracle automatically tries to checkpoint as frequently as necessary. Under this condition, the size of the log files should be large enough to avoid additional checkpointing due to under sized log files. The optimal size can be obtained by querying the OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE column from the V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY view. You can also obtain sizing advice on the Redo Log Groups page of Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control."

  • What's the point of redo logs?

Why does Oracle bother writing everything to redo logs? If it's going to write data changes to the disk, why not just write them once to the data files and be done with it? What's the point of doing it twice? And if it's a redundancy thing, why not mirror the data disks?

    Hemant K Chitale wrote:
How would you backup a database while it is in use ? You can't lock all the datafiles to prevent writes to them. Yet, transactions may be updating different blocks in different datafiles even as the backup is in progress. Say your backup starts with datafile 1 (or even datafiles 1,2,3,4 in parallel) at time t0. By time t5, it has copied 20% of the datafile to tape or alternate disk backup location. Along comes a transaction that updates the 100th block (somewhere within the 10-11% range) of datafile 1 and also the 60th block of datafile 5. Meanwhile, the backup continues running, already having taken a prior image of the 100th block and not being aware that the block has been changed. At time t25 it completes datafile 1 (or datafiles 1,2,3,4) and starts backing up datafile 5. Now, when it copies the 60th block of datafile 5, it (the backup utility) doesn't know that this block is inconsistent with the backup image of the 100th block of datafile 1.
Instead of 1 transaction imagine 100 or 1000 transactions occurring while the backup is running.
Surely, Oracle must be able to regenerate a consistent image of the whole database when it is restored ?
That is what the Redo stream provides. The Redo stream is written to Archivelogs so that it can be backed up -- no Archivelog file is "in flux" (particularly if you use RMAN to backup the Archivelogs as well !).
Had Oracle been merely writing to the datafiles alone, without a Redo stream, there is no way it could recreate a consistent database -- whether after Crash Recovery OR after Media Recovery.Interesting point about how redo logs facilitate backups. So what you're saying is that the redo logs help keep the data in the actual data files in a consistent state by only writing full transactions to them at a time. Presumably Oracle will either write out the redo log data to the data files before a backup or will at least prevent the redo logs from writing to the data files during a backup. I always wondered how databases got around that problem of keeping the system available for writing during a backup. I wonder how SQL Server does it.
    Hemant K Chitale wrote:
Now, approach this from another angle. A database consists of 10 or 100 or 500 datafiles. You have 10 or 100 or 1000 sessions issuing COMMITs to complete their transactions, which could be of 1 row or 100 rows or 1million rows, each transaction of a different size. Should the 1000 sessions be forced to wait while Oracle writes all those updated blocks to disk in different datafiles -- how many blocks can it write in "an instant" ?
But what if Oracle manages to write much less information -- the bare minimum (called "change vectors") to re-play every transaction to a single file serially ? That would be much faster. Imagine writing to 500 datafiles concurrently, having to open the file, progess to the required block address and update the block, for each block changed in each file VERSUS writing much lesser information serially to a single file -- if the file is full, switch to another file, but keep writing serially. As to your second point, I don't really have a good enough understanding about the format of redo logs vs. the data files to follow you totally. Are you saying that it takes more time to write to the data files because you have to find the proper place in the B-Tree before you can write to it? And that doing that is slower than just opening the redo log and always appending new information to the very end? Maybe so, but it seems like all transactions having to write to a single redo log in serial would slow things down since there would be a ton of contention for one file. Whereas with the data files, you could potentially have several transactions writing to different files simultaneously (provided you hardware would support doing that). And it seems to me like a change vector would contain a lot more information than a field value, but, like I said, I'm not really familiar with the format.

    Hi,
try kill -7 command to take the thread dump you need to provide PID of the admin server as an parameter in the command, for example Admin server pic is 1045 the command will be:
    kill -7 1045 > Adminthreaddump
This command will create Adminthreaddump file with the complete admin server dump.

    Hi Reddy,
You may find the run time of a PC using below steps.
    1. Call SE38 > /SSA/BWT > Execute  > Enter your PC , choose the date and time > Execute. Here Run-time of a PC is displayed. (or)
    2. Call RSPC1 > Enter your PC > Execute > Goto Log view > Right click on the start Variant > Displaying Messages > Note down the start time in Chain Tab. Now Right click on the last Process type of the PC > Displaying Messages > Note down the End time in Chain Tab. The Difference b/w start time and end time gives the Run-time of your PC.
    Hope this helps.

HOW TO KNOW THE SECURITY QUESTIONS ABOUT APPLE ID?HOW TO KNOW THE SECURITY QUESTIONS ABOUT APPLE ID?

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 on the page that you posted from should let you reset them : go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account, then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you won't get the reset option - you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use

    hi kevin
if the ODS is a standard ODS then you check the following way in SE16
    (for custom ODS objects)
/BIC/A<ODS technical name>00 (Active Data Table)
    /BIC/A<ODS technical name>40  (Activation Queue)
/BIC/B<10 digit number> (Change Log Table)
    (for SAP defined ODS Objects)
/BI0/A<ODS technical name>00 (Active Data Table)
    /BI0/A<ODS technical name>40  (Activation Queue)
/BI0/B<10 digit number> (Change Log Table)
and for Transactional ODS Object you will have only the active data Table. So you need to check with /BIC/A<ODS technical name>00 for the custom ODS objects and /BI0/A<ODS technical name>00 for SAP defined ODS objects.
    hope this helps.

    Hi Patricia,
is it working for restricted key figure and calculated key figure ??
Note Number Fisc Period Opening Days
    1 1 2
    2 1 3
    3 1 0
because I have other restriction, so I create two restricted key figure..
RK1  with restriction :  Total Number of Note,
RK2  with restriction :  Total Opening Days ,
then I Created a calculated key figure, average opening days in a period
    CK1 = RK2 / RK1..
in this case, I am not sure if it will work or not..
for example, during RK2 calclation, it might be this   2+3 = 5, the line with 0 will be ignored..
during RK1 calcualtion, it might be 1 + 1 + 1 = 3. ---> Not sure in this case, the line with opening days 0 will be calculated or not..
    could you please confirm..
