How to learn Oracle Financial

Hi All,
I am an IT engineer and new to Oracle Financials, and I would appreciate it if you could tell me what would be the best and quicker way to learn Oracle both from a technical and functional perspective.

Is it a good idea to go to accounting classes from a college (like assocaite degree from a community college). does this help any..?

    My opinion is a valid one Billy, based on many years with Oracle products.
    You may not agree with it, but it doesn't mean you have to be abusive.Well if you feel your point is valid and you're not just trolling, then please provide evidence or justification to back up your claims.
    If I were you I wouldn't bother learning Oracle - it's just a constant life of bug-fixingBugs can exist in any development environment. It isn't specific to Oracle, Microsoft or any other company.
    Bugs in the product are typically fixed with regular patches and most companies make those readily available, so there's no issue there.
    Bugs in the software developed with the product are the responsibility of the developer and are not an issue with the product itself. Good design, understanding and testing make for good application development. The product on assists to facilitate the development, not to ensure that there aren't idiots developing using it.
    and trying to get assistance from Oracle Support.What's the problem getting assistance from Oracle Support? Can't say I've ever had any real problems with them. They've always been most amenable. From what I gather, most people have issues with support when they themselves don't provide the necessary information to detail the issue in the first place.
    There are too many people learning Oracle these days (because it's pretty easy), and most jobs are getting out-sourced anyway.There are too many people getting certification and calling themselves Oracle developers/dba's and they don't have relevant experience, that's true, but that doesn't just relate to Oracle, it relates to many areas of IT (and I'm sure many other businesses too).
    Oracle is as easy as the depth you get into it. The deeper you go the more complex it can be. It's good that it's easy to get into as nobody want to come into learning a product that is just overly complex, but it's also good that it offers the power, flexibility and complexity when it is necessary.
    As for many jobs getting out-sourced, I guess that depends on your country and the economic climate and the nature of your business. I think there's a little less out sourcing going on lately as companies are beginning to realise that outsourcing their development often leaves them with unmaintainable, bug ridden code, written by people who don't care about the bussiness, but just care about getting money in their pockets. Of course there are still companies where the management just see a cheap short term option and go for it anyway, which is sad really.
    Saying all that however, you're points are certainly no reason to not bother learning Oracle. Your points could be applied to any product on the market. Hence why they came across as trolling.

    If this is so urgent.... and considering that for most people is a day off today.... you should search .....alone(??? !!!!!)
    So a quick search i've made the following:
    http://oracle.ittoolbox.com/topics/t.asp?t=302&p=302&h1=302 ,
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/content-management/ipm/ipm_peoplesoft_fm_integration_spotlight.pdf ,
    In any case , you can search using either google/altavista and/or the OTN search engine inserting the magic words Oracle Financials.... or whatever explicit you want....

    Hi Dodydh,
    I am afraid, your statement 'At r.12, Oracle has a new modul, i.e. Oracle Payment, which was subdomain of Oracle Payable.' is not correct.
    Oracle Payments is an upgrade version of Oracle iPayments of 11i and this module is expected to serve Self service modules. But Payment Batches which is part of Oracle Payables has been moved to Oracle Payments.
    You can very well ask them to implement Payment Batches (Processes relating to Funds Disbursement) but not the entire module.
    Please let me know if you require further info.

  • How fast is it possible to learn Oracle if I'm proficient in mySQL?

    Hi ladies and gents,
    I am planning on creating an estate agency website. I have about 3 months to do that. I did computer science in uni, so i know java, c++, SQL, x/html, html, a bit of javascript, css. I bought a PHP and Oracle book.
    My question is, considering the fact that I have never created a website with a fully functional database on, how long does it normally take for experience people to create such a site?
    If I am a fast learner would I be able to do it in 3 months? I am really scared that I am taking on a challenge that I will not be able to handle. I will be fully committed and obviously will be spending day and night on designing and coding the site.
    Finally the most important question I want people to answer is this, if I am already proficient in SQL, will learning Oracle take much time? Can I not do the site with SQL instead of Oracle at the moment?
    Massive "Thanks" to any who answers my questions. I am mainly interested in your views so any reply will be welcome.

    I've no idea on the project, having never done anything like that myself, but a working knowledge of SQL, whilst handy, isn't the be all and end all of working with a database.
    Firstly, you've got to get the design of the database right - normalised tables, primary keys, foreign keys, etc. Getting that right makes the rest of your job much easier!
    Secondly, a lot depends on the database you're working with. You'd take a different approach SQL / code wise when using Access than you would when using Oracle. So, you'd have to get familiar with the capabilities of your particular database platform in order to be able to make the best use out of it. (For example, Oracle has a different method of ensuring read consistency than MS SQL Server does, and what you can do in one big SQL statement in Oracle, you would break up into smaller queries and use temporary tables to hold the data.)
    Thirdly, the SQL used in each database platform is slightly different - most of it is standard, but there are bolt-ons which are not the same across the databases (eg. in the case of Oracle, how you handle DATEs is not the same as how you'd do it in SQL Server, Sybase, etc.)
    If I were you, I'd stick to using something that I knew, rather than trying to learn everything in 3 months! However, if you were wanting to bolt a website onto an Oracle database, I believe APEX could well suit your needs.

  • How to be come an oracle financial Consultant

    Hi
    I am a qualified accounatant and will like to try my hands on Oracle Financial. Can someone please advice on how on how to become one and what it entails, where the best training can be obtained in London, United Kingdom.
    I want to do the training but will like to know where to get it. I prefer the tutor led training with real case study not just books alone.
    Thanks

    I had the same problem. My specific requirements were to convert it to double. But the standard ADO.NET numeric should also work. Here is how I've done it in managed C++. This code is trying to be provider independent, hence using dynamic invocation:
    System::Object* pObjValue = pTypeCmd->InvokeMember( "GetOracleDecimal",
                        static_cast<BindingFlags>(
                        BindingFlags::Instance
                        | BindingFlags::Public
                        | BindingFlags::InvokeMethod ),
                        NULL,
                        pDataRec,
                        objParams );
    DebugAssert( NULL != pObjValue, "NULL != pObjValue" );
    System::Double dValue;
    if (NULL != pObjValue)
         System::String* pStrVal = pObjValue->ToString();
         if (NULL != pStrVal)
              dValue = Convert::ToDouble( pStrVal );

  • How to configure oracle 9i server

    Hi,
    I am a newbie to oracle. I need to configure oracle server for studying PL/SQL. I have SQL*Plus: Release 9.0.1.0.1 in it. I need a username and password on my localhost to login to it. I dont know how to run Oracle Database Server for it and how to create an user account. Could someone direct me how to do it? I just need to login to SQL Plus and study it.

    Do yourself a favor and deinstall 9i. It is obsolete and currently in desupport.
    If your intent is to learn Oracle then download 11g and use it instead.
    Then go to Morgan's Library at www.psoug.org and you can use the index to find demos you can use to learn all basic functionality.
    Feel free to contact me off-line if you have questions about the library.
