How to leave a mail copy in Server

Hi,
I would like to leave a copy of my mails in the server. I am using iMac and iPhone, configured to receive mail from the same account. Until recent times, i use to get mails in both. But, now my iPhone doesn't retrieve the mails. I went to online to check the mails in the server and I didn't find them there. I tried to do the settings in my Mail preference / accounts / specific mail account / advanced tab. But there is no option to leave a copy in the server. Such an option is available only for microsoft outlook account. Is there a way to enhance this option. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi Thanks for your response. This email provider is etisalat. I am living in UAE. It is a POP account. there is no option available in Preference pan for mail accounts / mailbox behaviors.

Under what circumstances does mail "not leave the mails on the server"?
If you mean that you delete them (or move them out of the inbox) on one device and then find them not in the inbox on the server when you look from another device, that's how IMAP is supposed to work. (Note that the deletion or moving might be the result of rules you have set up in Mail.)
If you mean something else, please explain your issue in more detail.

I can't find a preference to keep mail on the server as it's deleted on individual devices. We have 4 Mac devices and a PC running W8 with the iCloud control panel. How can we keepthe mail on the server as it is deleted from the individual devices?

Yahoo and Gmail both support POP if you wish.
All modern email systems are Imap (because it supports multiple and mobile devices)
I do not recommend POP under any circumstances, it can not be synchronized so unless you do not use Mobile devices at all (iPhones etc) it is useless.
Yahoo users (search this site) have endless problems and Gmail is highly non-standard. Expect a learning curve for that one.
Are you short of server space, why do you need to do this rather retrograde step?

i have just realised that my new ipad is deleting my eamils from the server, i dont want it to do this!! how do i set it to leave a copy on the server?? the option is on the iphone but appears to be missing from ipad help.....

worked it out!!
If you set email account as an IMAP account, it doesnt give the option to save incoming mail on server!
I have reloaded it as a POP account and this has given me the option.
Luckily my server is very flexible

How to fetch forgotten mails from the server

Possibly due to aborted fetch cycles some mails are left on my GMX-POP account and will not be fetched when I poll my mails next time. This happens only since some weeks but since there three times. Possibly something changed either in the Apple Mail program or how the server behaves? Is there a way to fetch this lost mails?
Obviously mails saves the time of the last poll. How can I reset this time to a date older the last unfetched mail to refetch all mails inclusive the lost ones? For sure then I will have duplicated mails. Is there a way to easily remove this duplicates without deleting it individually?

thanks for your suggestions. It seems my problem can't be solved in a smart way. To your question: My server space is limited ( 1 GB ), I use currently about 2/3 of it.
I have access to the mails via the web interface and therefore I could forward the mails to my account but I would like to have all mails local on my Mac with the original time stamps and format. But that's not the case for forwarded mails. In addition for sure the problem is not solved, if I cure the current symptoms and I have no idea if it's caused by an update of my Mac or by the server.

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. When configuring Mail I used POP ( I prefer it) with my Gmail account and it tediously uploaded all my received mail from the Gmail server to my mac mail program. How do I get the sent mails on the Gmail server onto my computer?

HOW DO I DOWNLOAD MAIL FROM THE SERVER

In the past, Thunderbird had a simple command , "Get Mail" That has disappeared as far as I can tell. Need to get my messages off the server as some just disappear if I leave them there too long and I never can tell what "too long" is.

IMHO, unless you have a formal service level agreement with your email provider, you should view all email stored on their server as transient and not guaranteed to be there tomorrow.

How to get internet mail into my server - any advice?

To clear the pipeline and reduce the amount of configuration, I decided to get rid of my private router and plug my server directly into the modem, thus using the server as the gateway/router for other computers in my home. Hopefully this will eliminate the need for an internal/private network DNS configuration as well as an external/public DNS configuration.
I have a registered public domain name of N.com and an associated public MX record for this domain which is also named N.com (as opposed to mail.N.com or something similar).
I reinstalled the Leopard Server software and when the setup asked for a "primary DNS name" I named it N.com (the same name as my registered public domain). I went into firewall settings in the Server Admin and "allowed"/opened port 25 as well as 80 for email and web services respectively.
When I looked in the Mail settings the default domain name is "localdomain" and the default hostname is N.com (the same as my registered public domain). Default user addresses are [email protected]
So here is the problem. I have no problem seeing the server's webpages from the internet, but I still cannot get any mail from the internet to show up in my user accounts.
What more do I need to do?

HELP! How do I restore mail left on server?

Since I archived part of my mail into a separate folder, I no longer see in my main Inbox the content of the mail and I get a message saying "Message has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." the account is active, but I no longer can retrieve the message content.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How to Leave Mail on Server

I can't find a "preferences" setting to leave incoming mail on my server. Even with MobileMe, I keep "losing" mail that is downloaded to Mail on my MacBook Pro laptop, and I need to later be able to download the same messages to my iMac desktop in order to keep my records straight.
(Even the IMAP accounts won't sync incoming mail to MobileMe. . . but I wouldn't need that if I could just leave mail read on my laptop on the server.)

that's special to some email providers. I know gmail POP does it but i didn't know about Comcast. such email providers have special POP setups and then messages removal preferences can only be set via webmail interface and whatever you do in email client preferences (Mail.app or any other email client) is ignored by the server.

If your Yahoo account is set up as a POP account, you can set the option "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" in the Advanced settings of Mail.

IPhone in deleting mail from my server? Help please

i have an ATT / Yahoo e mail acct. and never had this problem before.
As i have a phone and a home computer, i have always had the phone leave the mail on the server and that way I could also get it on my home computer. Now the phone deletes the mail off the server os I can't get it at home.
I have checked my phone settings but nothing helps.
Any suggestions would be great before i take a trip down to the ATT store.

Unless you had it set up as a POP account before with a specific setting not to delete messages from the server after download, I'm not sure why it would have behaved differently. This is the way it's always worked for me. It's basically an IMAP account with support for push notification. Nearly indistinguishable from an Exchange account. It synchronizes fully with the server. Deletions will be reflected on all devices using IMAP to access the host inbox.
