How to Leave OSX 4 ****?

My quandry: I have an 8 year old iMac (2006) with 4.11, a non-functioning internal drive and an LG slimline DVD player that is Mac compatible but requires at least OSX 5. There are two Snow Leoparx install DVDs within arms-reach, but unreadable due to no compatible player. I have OSX 6 on my hard drive and on a flash drive but the .pkg file cannot be opened with 4.11. Safari 4.11 is incompatble with Google and even this website, so I am typing this with my iPad. I don't have the free cash now to buy a new DVD player that somehow is compatible with this ancient OS. You see my Catch-22? Besides going to Linux, is there any other choice?

Ditch your current  optical with another, new compatble one.
That is the only way to solve your problem with installing an new OS X version on your Mac.
Here are two from here that will work with your Mac and OS X version and any future versions of OS X you install.
These are high quality tray loading drives that should last you many years.

How to uninstall osx server 10.6 ?

There's no downgrade path from OS X Server to OS X client.  Other than wiping the disk, and installing OS X client on the box.  Or as others have done in this situation, shut down the server function(s) you're not using, and leave it alone.

  • How do I find out how much space OSX and applications are taking up on my HDD?

I am thinking of moving my OS and all applications to a SSD to free up space on my MBP.
My question is how do I find out how much space OSX and installed applications are taking up on my HDD so I know how big the SSD needs to be?  Also, what is the best way to move these files across to the new SSD once installed?
    Many thanks,
    Andrew.

If you do command-click or right click on your hard drive and select get info, it will tell you how full the HD is.
there are some apps that can show you exactly how big particular apps are

I replaced my internal drive with a SSD for performance reasons a few months ago. There are a number of ways to move your files over to the new SSD. I am a fan of the clean install, which might take a bit more time and effort but results in a very fast and trouble free mac. An easy way to do this if you are replacing your internal drive is to put the old drive in an external drive enclosure. Then you install the new SSD and install mavericks on it. In my case I used Diskmaker X to make a Mavericks installer (DiskMaker X (formerly Lion DiskMaker) . Then you can reinstall your apps from scratch, and finally move your documents over from the external drive.

WHen I first installed iOS 6 the App Store crashes...and now having iOS 6 for 2 weeks now, all my apps are buggy and now are crashing! Safari and built in apps are becoming slow and crash. I hate how apple leaves iPod touch 4g and iPhone 4 in the dark and basically force us to upgrade to newer devices. Apple could of done better with the update and needs to resolve these issues.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • OK HERE IS WHERE I AM AT HARD DRIVE WENT DOWN UPGRADED TO A 250 GIG AND NOW NEED TO KNOW HOW TO INSTALL OSX ON THE POWERBOOK G4 17

I have a powerbook g4 17 and it recently went down the hard drive sounded like it was eating itself so i replaced the hard drive with a 250 gig and now i need help on how to get osx onto the powerbook it will not boot from disk i will start all the back at 0s9 if need be can anyone please help me i miss my g4

Do you have any OSX disks?
It won't boot from the new hard drive yet because there is no OS installed.
You need to use an OSX disk, put in your mac, then when turn on, hold down the C key (to boot from the CD).
Hold it down for a long time until you hear it noisily reading from the CD drive.  Once OSX starts up (from CD) you should go to Disk utility and you will need to format your new hard drive.
Once formatted, you can then install OSX.
Everything is done from the OSX install disk.
If you don't have one, you can buy a retail copy from Apple (not Snow Leopard), or from Ebay.  Make sure it is a retail copy, not disks that came with a Mac as they only work with the exact model of Mac it came with.

  • Does anyone know how to update OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.1. to 10.8.2. on a late 2012 Mac mini. All I get are 'not compatible' messages even using supplementary updates etc?

Does anyone know how to update OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.1. to 10.8.2. on a late 2012 Mac mini. All I get are 'not compatible' messages even using supplementary updates etc?

It appears that many of the problems with the HDMI are the "monitors" that are being used. Samsung and Vizeo both DO NOT support a computer input on HDMI only VGA. There probably are others, manuals must be read to confirm compatability.
I strongly believe that the reason the 10.8.2 update was pulled is due to the fact (it happened to me) that the new Disk Utility creates a Fusion drive if aftermarket SSDs are added to the system. I think Apple wants this propriatary Fusion Drive to be something you buy from them not a "homebrew" for lots less money.

  • HELP how to install OSX on power book ge prismo running OS 9.2

HELP how to install OSX on powerbook G3 prismo running OS 9.2  help.

First you need to install firmware update 4.1.8. Download at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1395
I used to have a 400MHz G3 Pismo model running Tiger 10.4.11. It ran quite well, however videos will be very slow.
On your Pismo, what is the processor speed, how much RAM and what size hard drive? I maxed out the RAM on mine & installed a 40GB hard drive.
Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1976068 Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac?

After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US

You can also download the Tiger Installation and Setup Guide

When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710 Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.

  • How to setup osx Firewall to allow incoming access to nginx?

    Hello!
How to setup osx Firewall to allow incoming access to nginx (any port)?
Local access is all fine, but when I trying to open http://<myip>:<port> from outside (other device in same network) there are no answer.
If I turn off Firewall all works fine, but I want to keep my safety.
Adding "nginx" binary file to Firewall  list doesn't help.

              Victor,
              two ideas:
              1. Once you've seen where jspservlet compiles the jsp to, try adding
an explicit servlet registration (then an acl for that servlet)
I'm not sure if it would work, never tried.
              2. If it doesn't, well, you have a servlet class available from
the jspservlet/jspc process. Move it to servletclasses (or wherever
you keep other servlets) and register/acl it normally

  • HT1338 how to open .osx file in lion

how to open .osx file in lion

I am not sure you can.  Open terminal (in utilities) and type the word file followed by a space.  Then drag one of those .osx files in to the termina.  You should have a line that looks like:
    file /path/to/osx/file
    Hit return and post results.
Also, see this link.  If what they say there applies here then you won't be able to execute those files.

  • How to leave feedback for a podcast?

Can someone show me how to leave a feedback for a podcast in the Apple's own Podcasts app?

I really don't think you can.  I always go to the podcaster's web site and post feedback there.  But I don't think that the Podcast app ( I use it for some podcasts but mostly use Downcast) or any other podcast app has the ability to upload feedback to the podcaster.  Hope I am wrong, but I haven't been able to figure it out.
