How to link eject key on keyboard to external cd/dvd drive?

I'm using an external Lacie cd/dvd drive with a Mac Mini to rip over 7,000 cds so I'm trying to find the most efficient way to do this. I will often rip cds while watching a tv or movie. I use my tv as my monitor. I have my itunes preferences set to rip and eject when finished. My problem occurs when I accidentally insert a cd that I've already imported or one that has mutliple entries to choose from on CDDB/Gracenote. A dialog box comes up asking if I want to replace, don't replace, choose album title, etc. At this point I want to be able to use the eject key to eject the disc and insert the next one in my stack. I don't want to have to pause my movie, swicth input jacks on my tv to view my desktop then manually hit the eject icon within iTunes. Why is it so hard to disassociate the eject key with the Mini's built-in drive. Didn't Apple think people would be using external drives?

Once again thanks guys but Ejector simply adds an eject icon onto my menu bar. I want to be able to eject a disc from an external drive without the need of switching off whatever movie I'm watching, changing the input on my tv to vga for my Mini, eject it from there and then do the whole process in reverse. Maybe I'm not being clear...I am NOT using my Mini to watch movies, tv, etc. I am using U-Verse or my Blu-ray player. I am ripping cds while I am watching movies. The ONLY solution is to be able to eject by using the eject key on my keyboard. Anyone?

I purchased a External LaCie Drive recommended by Apple Genius Bar to affordably replace a dead internal DVD drive on an older iMac G4. I bought a family package of Leopard OSX10.5 and installed 10.5 on my main computer (G5) using its internal drive. Trying to install it on my G4 desktop using the external drive, the install program will not boot the G4 holding down the C key during start up. I booted with the option key down and it showed the only drive recognized for start up is my main HD even though I had the 10.5 Installation disk in the external DVD player burner.. That was the gist of my problem. My G4 will not recognize the USB External DVD player burner Drive for start up. Once booted up from my HD anything I put on the DVD drive is viewed- a CD, a DVD, an commercial movie, even OSX 10.5 Installation. But when I try to install it, it asks to "restart" but can't restart using a system other than the one on my HD which prevents the installation procedure from ocurring.
The ATA CD/DVD disk drive in my G4 will only play CDs and it is not recognized booting up with option key down when the DVD installation disk is in it. Do you know if Apple supplies OSX 10.5 in CD format? or a system startup I could use in my internal drive on CDs that if booted would allow me to go right to Install. If I could start up on a CD formated system, I think I could then open the installation disk on my external DVD Player and install it.

How can I switch the region code on MBP w/ DVD drive for the 5th and final time? It brings up the window with that world map to do it, including the warning that "this is the 5th and final time I can do this", when inserting a DVD and opening "DVD Player", but it never executes my click on the "Change Drive Region" button prompt.
VLC or Quicktime Player won't play it either, but won't bring up that window to change Region Code anyway....
Otherwise, I'm not having any other issues with this MBP at all. Peak performance on all counts :-)
I tried resetting SMC after chatting w/ Apple Support, but it didn't help.

How to install Snow Leopard on a Mac with busted dvd drive

My problem is that my Mac Mini doesn't read all CDs or DVDs - including the new Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard that I just bought. From the support articles, I figured that I could install remotely, as you do if you have a MacBook Air. I couldn't get it to work, until I read this article:

Snow Leopard (SL) upgrade in my mac mini failed part way through and when I tried to re-do the upgrade, it would give me a blue screen (via DVI to my HD TV).
So, following the advice I found elsewhere, I did the following:
Booted up my 24" iMac, inserted SL disk into iMac.
Turned off mini, connected mini to iMac w/firewire cable.
Started mini and pressed and held the T key on the mini keyboard until it mounted on my iMac (seen in Finder) as a hard drive.
Started SL installation icon (iMac) and indicated that I wanted to install on the mini hard drive.
It went through a number of steps, then asked AGAIN which drive I wanted to install SL.
Then took quite a long time (upwards of 1.5 hours) to install, and the estimated time left during the install would sometimes appear frozen at 40 minutes, but the blue bar kept extending indicating it was making progress.
I was able to then boot SL on my iMac off the mini hard drive and configure everything (making sure that back to my Mac/mobile me was up and running and the proper in home network was correct).
Then "shut down" the iMac (which was still running off the mini hard drive), then powered down the mini.
Moved the mini out to it's normal place and reconnected to the HD TV and started it up and everything was perfect.
BTW, as many people know, if you're having video out difficulties with your mac mini, it's nice to be able to go "back to my mac" via another iMac to adjust the configuration. It's saved me a couple of times.

Now I am having other issues with installing software and windows updates so I would like to format hard drive. I have an intel Mac with trashed DVD drive. I haven't used it in three years but it works with an external monitor. So I'm putting it to work alongside the replacmene laptop I received from the insurance money post auto accident. I want to upgrade the laptop using my Snow Leopard DVD and I'm not sure how to upgrade the current 10.5.8 to 10.6 using the Snow Leopard DVD I own. It's not a big deal if I lose all the user data on it but I'd love to keep it if possible. How do I accomplish this upgrade?

just boot the Snow Leopard DVD and install. It will upgrade an existing system automatically.
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
E. If updating:
Download and install update(s)
Use Software Update, or
Download standalone updater(s).

T61 Keyboard flex / pressure affect DVD drive?

Hi all,
I read in one of the posts that on a T61 there might be "minor keyboard flex" just above the DVD-drive, which i can confirm, though "minor" is vaguely spoken in my case.
The FRU of my keyboard is #42t3218 and thus an ALPS-model, which from what i've read so far seems to be one of the more solid models.
Having seen pictures of the inner frame-structure from the lenovo-site for a T61 and from another thread for the Tx00-series, the magnesium cage encloses the entire DVD-drive area, thus supporting the keyboard from underneath.
But with my T61 there are three cut-outs in this part of the frame, the biggest one of which is in the middle just below the Enter-key and right above the "DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE HERE"-label on the DVD-drive, giving way for considerable flex.
Since i am a heavy typer, this part of the keyboard gets bent quite frequently and i wonder if this could inflict any damage to the DVD-drive in a longer term or if there is a keyboard-model with a stronger base plate which caves in less than this one,
I guess the cut-outs in the frame came out of good intentions in order to make the machine lighter, but i would rather prefer carrying that extra weight for knowing that it makes sense. Having the cage changed as a whole would really be the last option.

nah, no keyboard flex on my x300, its all very solid, even when using it on one's lap.
the key is stiff and clicky, it is responsive, the spacing is wide, so if you have large hands and type hard; this keyboards suits you. thinkpad's keyboard is much better than many windows notebook, however;
i somewhat prefer typing on macbook/macbook pro though. on the mac, i can type faster because the key is softer, also, the keyboard is incredibly stiff, this is done trough the use of full metal backplate, the macbook/pro doesn't have drain channel though, and if things go wrong (even if its only one key, and you want to get it fixed), you need to replace the entire topcase, which is expensive. so its really apple and oranges.

I have this problem with a Satellite 5200-902 that has the DVD-ROM corrupt and I don't find the part to change. (model DVD: uj-810b)
But I would like to reinstall the notebook with the CD recovery and I don't be able to enter in the BIOS for change the boot order and start with a USB DVD-ROM.
I removed the HDD and reinstall the WXp Prof by another machine but when I restart the 5200 I read this message " errore nel caricamento del sistema operativo".
When turn on I press F2-F10-F12 but if I select another peripheral for boot the notebook start only by network.
Can you help me to recover this notebook by an external USB DVD-ROM?

I have an usb floppy drive model ibm TEAC FD05pub, I think it's incompatible or the notebook don't has the power in the usb port because the led of the floppy is of.
When I tried to press ESC + F1 in the bios I set only the date and the password but no the boot order and other function.
I really do not know what to do and how to solve.
I can not execute any BIOS update I can only do so because the boot from network or DVD-ROM (unfortunately broken).
I installed the operating system by connecting the hard disk on another machine but when I go to connect to my notebook S5200 gives me error.

I'm sure to many of you this is a simple questions but I'm new to GarageBand and you might be able to point me in the right direction...
I have 24 different sounds I've created (24 notes / C to B in 2 Octaves) and I want to be able to assign them to the relevant notes on a USB keyboard so I can play the sound samples via the keyboard.
Any pointers in regards to where I need to begin? Is there a tutorial or guide on how to do this?

GB is not a sampler, but there's a way to do it: Use a Radio Sounds instrument track and drag your sound samples to the respective keys in the Musical Typing keyboard!
Are more "professional" way might be do use a software called Polyphontics which allows you to build a soundfont from your samples.

How to replace a key on keyboard

one of the keys popped off my keyboard, the letter "I"
only the key came off, the white bracket thing still attached to the grey thing.
i tried to push down on the key to see if it would snap back on, no luck. i have done some searches on how to fix it, all were not very clear.
i recall speaking to a person a long time ago about this, he said its hard until you know how, then it is easy.
any suggestions=?
right now i am typing with the "I" key just kind of balanced in position.

There is a Site with some Images presented using a JS slideshow. There is a keyboard control implemented, e. g. hit 'space' for next image. Since there is no textfield detected by safari the virtual keyboard doesn't appear and I cannot use the keyboard controls. Any hint or do I something wrong?

Using my Mac it's possible to use the Keyboard for navigating through all Images, of course. I don't have an external Keyboard on my iPad.
