Hi everyone, I have an Ipad 2 and I wonder how to load my Ilife 2011 (family) version into my Ipad2 ???
of course I am talking about Ilife version on DVD...
I hope I would not obliged to get a new licence from the applestore...

It will not work. iLife is for Mac OS but the ipad runs iOS. Different operating system. Think of it as one talking german and the other speaking chinese. The only way to load apps onto the ipad is via the appstore.
Its the same reason you cant run PC software on a Mac.

I know this is a stupid question. But I was trying to put a DVD into the tray on my Desktop and I couldnt' get the thing to close. Anybody have any instructions on how to do this.

There is a button on the front of the drive. Push it and the door should close. Also, you can gently push the door and it should close.

.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update" It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).

I’ve owned Macs since 1990 (IICX my first), mostly desktops. Having had DVD/CD drives in all my previous laptop Macs since 2001 - (2) G4 Powerbooks, A 17” Mac Book Pro - and also inspecting a friend’s year-old Mac Book Pro which had the DVD slot - unless someone told me at purchase, I had no reason to know that the Retina display version of the 15” had NO DVD drive. ANYHOW, I fully intended to buy the non-Retina display version, because it was cheaper. Unfortunately by the time I got to the Apple store they were no longer selling the non-Retina display version; all versions were ONLY with the Retina display. And the fine distinction of a DVD vs. a non-DVD drive was not pointed out. So now I have to shell out an additional $80 bucks for an external SuperDrive.

Now I tried to add MS Office from my mac mini. When I click on say, MS Word it brings up a statement that the installer did not install correctly. So I dug up my disk of MS Office 2011. Also I am using OS 10.9 or Maverick. Help me...

You folks maybe correct in thinking OS 10.9 that I am using may be the culprit. However, I have posted here rather then the OS Mavrick group (which I did not know of tnx) because I had read several folks discussing (but wouldn't ya know it I forgot the tech term and I am familiar with it) a software that binds the machinacal device such as the dvd drive to talk to the other software, etc. Oh, and when I insert Microsoft's office 2011 for Mac, the drive accellerates and slows down. The drive never comes to the desk-top. The drive according to other comments in different forums have said the the firmware needs to be current. Then again, I would think that with the various system upgrades each system alteration / change would have the (hopefully, ha) necessary firmware to interface with devices / software and system, right? Anyway, for all the reasons I only took my concerns here. By the way I think I had started up the Mac Book Pro while holding down the track pad. I may hit the track-pad and see, and we'll see if that allows me to bring up the software to install and / or eject the MS office 2011, etc. Tnx for all your comments, I certainly appreciate it.

I have a +*MacBook Pro*+ with a slot-loading DVD/CD-ROM. I have a DVD that won't play certain parts. I repaired and cleaned it and now it looks much better and the part that was not playing in the movie is now playing. However, now there are other parts that aren't playing. I used someone else's computer to see what might be wrong. The DVD played fine on theirs, everything played. This person suggested that my *lens might be dirty*. I don't know *how to clean it if it is a slot-load or where to find the cleaning supplies*. If anyone knows how to clean the DVD/CD-ROM, please let me know. *Thank you!*

Haven't had the need to clean my newest, but in previous MBPs have had much success with the brush-type drive cleaners sold by various makers. These have 2 or 3 really soft, small and flexible brushes attached to the working side of a CD, plus a content track that leads you on how to play the thing so the brushes get a good go over the lens.
In my now-deceased Feb'08 MBP, one of them enabled me to resuscitate the drive and let it play CDs and DVDs it was consistently spitting out.

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Authorizing a computer does not cause media to magically appear.
Media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

I'm taking a trip where I'll be away from internet access. I want to load DVDs I've purchased on my MACbook pro so I don't have to take the DVDs with me. I thought it would work like music I've purchased on CDs using iTunes but this doesn't work. Anyone out there know how I can do this?
