How to load special characters (diacritics)

When trying to load a record from a csv-file into an Oracle 10 g database (UTF8 characterset) with the name Morré in it (note the accent grave) SQL Loader returns the following error "no terminator found after TERMINATED and ENCLOSED field"
using a backslash (Morr\é ) doesn't help
removing the accent grave (Morre) from the csv-file solves it but is not really what I want. Any idea how to tackle this?
Sample record from the csv-file
AAN0813171,"00979108","Derek Morré","Transactiefinanciering","EXC6654","791742","12-11-08","Open - Bevestigd","1063","8-9-2008
","7777"
ctl-file:
LOAD DATA
CHARACTERSET UTF8
APPEND
INTO TABLE CNV_PUB_INV_CTRL
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' TRAILING NULLCOLS
(order_no
,item_no
,fullname
,description
,no
,class_no
,start_date "TO_DATE(:start_date, 'DD-MM-RRRR HH24:MI:SS')"
,order_item_status
,price
,updated_on "TO_DATE(:updated_on, 'DD-MM-RRRR HH24:MI:SS')"
,bill_no
changing the client NLS_LANG parameter to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 as suggested in the following link
http://www.akadia.com/services/ora_sql_loader_utf8.html
doesn't help either.

Remco,
Did you ever resolve this? I'm running into a very similar problem with the letter a with a grave accent. Changing it to a standard a works but am trying to avoid that like you are. Changing the column definition in the external table to nvarchar2 does NOT help.
Now the interesting is the instance where this us failing is set to the AL32UTF8 character set. My sandbox instance is set to WE8MSWIN1252 and it works fine here.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bob Siegel

    Pandharinath.

    I don't know what your problem is but that's almost certainly the wrong question to ask about it. Java (including iText) uses only Unicode characters. (You may consider some of them to be "special" if you like but Unicode doesn't.) And when it does that, they aren't encoded in UTF-8 or any other encoding.
    So can you describe your problem? That question doesn't make sense.

    Hi Prashant ,
      What special characters would you like to include .
    There are a set of characters / icons /symbols that can be included in Script , for that open a window in edit mode and in the menu there will be an option called Insert  , here you can find a lot of characters/symbols that can be included .

  • How to handle special characters in Stage web view with Load URL method?

    Hi,
      I have Latin special characters in my text. My HTML content contains the text as well as the image. If I use stage webview LoadString,  images will not be displayed. But my latin characters are displayed correctly.
    If I use LoadURL method, the images are displayed correctly but I have problem in displaying the latin special characters. How to solve this issue?

    Don't pass data values in URLs. Whilst it is possible to escape values to make them URL- and APEX parameter-safe, it is much better practice to avoid the problem altogether.
    Create a surrogate primary key on the table that is an immutable discrete numeric identifier and only use this as a URL parameter. In target pages/regions, use this PK value to retrieve the required data from the table.

  • Problem with flat file loading/Special characters

    Hi, All,
    We just migrated from Version 3.0B to BI7.0, and I've a problem which I can't handle for the moment. We are in Unicode, current codepage of the server is 4103 and codepage of frontend is 4110 (from SNL1 Transaction).
    I'm loading czech texts in my material, via CSV files. The CSV file is correct on my PC, I see the special characters.
    The problem is on my loading, whatever Character set I choose in the Infopackage (I choose Standard or Character Set Setting User-dependant), I cannot see the good characters.
    Does any one of you already encounter this kind of problem, and, if yes, how did you solve it ?
    Thanks

    hi,
    check out with your flat file letter's type, if it's in lower case letter's change them in
    upper case letter's. or otherwise change the infobject's type as-- select check box
    corresponding to lower case letter's in infoobject.
    if helpful provide points

  • Loading Special Characters

    Hey everyone, hopefully this is really easy. I have a really
    simple easy quiz that pulls questions off a .txt file. Trouble is,
    whenever a question uses the special character "&", flash
    doesn't display it. Almost as if it isnt there. If I push things
    further, it actually displace a space, or in some cases seems to
    delete whatever letter was in front of it!?
    Does anyone know whats going on? Does anyone know what I need
    to do to the data sheet (or flash) to let it full up % and other
    special characters like $, #, or @ ??

    Hi Berall,
    When you load up data, it's assumed to be URL encoded. That
    means that
    special characters like the ampersand (&) are used to
    denote data sections
    rather than being taken literally. In this case, the
    ampersand denotes the
    beginning of a variable in the same way as if you had
    included it in a URL:
    http://www.someserver.com/script.php?var1=some_data&variable2=some_other_data
    There are two simple solutions to this:
    1. Replace all occurances of "&" with "&amp;". When
    teh data is loaded,
    apply the function decode(loadedText) on it.
    2. Create your own parser. Decide which character (or set of
    characters)
    will represent an ampersand. A simple function like this will
    parse it out
    and return the correct string:
    //assume the variable "loadedtext" is your loaded data
    var ampersandRepresentation:String="%amp%"; //Or however you
    want to
    represent it
    var realString:String=new String(loadedtext); //We just make
    sure it's a
    real string object here so that we can use the required
    string class methods
    var
    returnString:String=realString.split(ampersandRepresentation).join("&");
    //returnString now contains the correct ampersand-ed string
    If you're wondering how this is accomplished, basically the
    "realString"
    string is split up (the split command) into a numbered array
    anywhere where
    the string is found (in this case the '%amp%'...but this can
    be anything you
    want). The array is then joined up again, in sequence, using
    the ampersand
    character to join the elements. Again, you could replace this
    with any
    character or string.
    This is effective and *fast*...it uses low-level Flash
    routines to
    transform the data. You could use other routines to analyze
    the string one
    character at a time but it's processor intensive and you end
    up with the
    same result.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to insert & # special characters into oracle table?

    I have a text value which contains special characters such as & and #.
    After I pass from one page to another,
    TEST& becomes "TEST&amp;"
    I put " " on the above test, otherwise amp; will be truncated by OTN).
    TEST# becomes TEST (# is truncated).
    Actually the value is saved in table like this: "TEST&amp;"
    How to solve this problem?
    How to insert & into table without &amp;

    Avoid doing that through a link. If this is a page item then submit the page and redirect to the target page using a branching. On the target page, create a computation to compute the target item using the original page item as the source. If you are talking about a report, use the id to pass through the link and fetch the text column in an on load computation.

  • How to add special characters in Flash CS3

    Hi, i need the help of some flash guru… these last weeks we were working with cloversites.com to build a community website… the interface is awesome etc etc however we in Malta have eight special characters (GCZ with a dot on top of them and an H with a second strikethrough). Those at cloversites wrestled with the problem, they could see the characters on their computers but when they entered the text in the site, flash couldn't render the special characters. Here is their message:
    I am extremely sorry about this, but we were unable to add in your characters. We attempted to add them into our software but they did not work. We worked on it all morning and realized that we need an extra add-on for our keyboards. Adding special characters is nothing new to us and have answered this request for many of our international users. For some reason, the Maltese characters did not work in our sites. For example, our "option-G" is the copyright symbol so it will need to be transferred over to international characters.
    Unfortunately, we thing that this has to do with Adobe Flash CS3. The software allowed me to embed the characters, but we were unable to render them on the web. Which led us to think it had to do with the version Adobe is running and its inability to render the text through its software on the web. None of the characters worked on the web, and it looks like its just an Adobe bug. So we are able to type and use the Maltese characters, but Adobe Flash is having trouble with them.
    Does anybody know of any possible solution?

  • How to handle special characters in Apex

    Hi ,

    My Report has two columns Empno(varchar2) and Ename(varchar2).

  • How to preserve special characters in dynamic textfield for text comparison?

    The problem is as follows:
    Since I mostly develop for multiple languages I am forced to have dynamic textfields in my buttons which contain three lines (to account for the differnt text.lengths in different languages).
    I then populate the textfields with strings out of an array or xml and use the textfields contents later in my button class to execute different code depending on the textfields content.
    This works fine as long as I don`t use any special characters, like for example "\n".
    var labels:Array = ["\nLABEL1","LABEL\n\n2"];
    switch (e.currentTarget.txt.text)
                    case labels[0]:
                        doSomething();
                        break;
                    case labels[1]:
                        doSomethingElse();
                        break;
    shows the right thing in the button label (breaks the text were I want it)
    but stops to work
    (with htmlText &  <br> its the same)
    my workaround for the moment is to use filler spaces,
    var labels:Array = ["                   LABEL1","LABEL                                                                        2"];
    but that`s obviously ugly to setUp and requires a lot of trial/error to get it right for all languages.
    Any ideas how to bypass that?

    Bad habits die hard ;-)
    Weird enough spelling the problem out and getting this response from you cleared my head and  I finally got an easy solution.
    I simply attach a dynamic property to the movieclip, copy the array contents into them and instead of using the text-property for comparison I compare the MovieClips fresh created spectext property.
    Voila: Now I can be lazy without too much of a bad conscience.
