How to locate a stolen phone which is active in different country. I have the serial number and IMEI number. It was brand new iphone 4S unlocked and never used.

I was relocating from USA to India using Air India airways. On reaching Delhi, I did not receive my luggage. After 5 days of my arrival, I received my luggage with broken lock and my 2 iphone 4S and one Macbook pro air was missing. All these products were brand new and unopened from box. I filed complained about my missing electronics items but came up with empty handed. All these electronic products are registered in Apple in my name. After 2 months, I came to know by calling Apple representative that one of the iphone4S is active and is using Turkey carrier. I have the IMEI number and the serial number of this active iphone but due to Jurisdiction area limitation, I cannot do anything. Please let me know what I can do at best to alteast find out the complete gang involved in this shameful international electronic stolen item trafficking business. I still wonder how my iphone 4S reached Turkey although my itinerary was from Baltimore to NewYork to Paris to Delhi.

The advisor should not have told you this for legal reasons. There is no way of tracking the iPhones just of finding out which SIM cards were used to activate them and if they were activated at all. Court can authorize Apple to release this information to the count. There is no legal way without involving a judge.

If you haven't turned on FindMyiPhone in settings (yes, even for the iPod), there's nothing you can do. Apple will not help you find it using the serial number. If you did turn it on and the thief doesn't get into the iPod (you did have a passcode set, right?), then go to iCloud website using a browser, log in and try finding the iPod. Unless the thief reset the device to factory settings, and if the wifi isn't off, it's location should show on the map. After that it's up to you to report its location to the police.

I'm sorry, but your sister, unless she had already turned on the "Find my iPhone" feature and the person who took the phone has not disabled it, is out of luck. She should report the theft to local police authorities, including the serial number of her iPhone. While her experience is unfortunate, there are good reasons why Apple cannot do anything else about it.
I hope she gets her phone back.
