How To Locate com.apple.bluetoot.plist?
I'm attempting to delete the file com.apple.bluetoot.plist as recommended to restor function of my "magic" mouse. I love that thing - when it works! But there is no longer a way to find HD>Library>Preferences from Finder in OS 10.7. Or is there? I'm not a terminal user but could follow excruciating instructions. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Well, here we go again. My mouse stayed connected, mostly, for a couple weeks. Then today it started again with losing its connection and I've gone through all the processes suggested, including reseting SRC completely. And Immediately after the machine restared the mouse lost its connection. Every time.
I'm fed up. I'll go try to find a decent wired mouse to use on my machine, and then this is the last Apple computer I'll buy. I ended up buying a wired keyboard too, because the add-on numeric keypad I bought wouldn't stay connected either. How hard can bluetooth really be? Shouldn't these products function reliably?
In times past, Apple products "just worked." I used to tell everyone to 'switch' because Apple computers were reliable. Well, they're not anymore. I'm done. When this machine finally dies I'm going to an alternate OS and run something that really does 'just work.' Even if it takes more hand holding, it'll be worth it not to have stupid hassles like this.
Barry, I really do appreciate your help and patience. You've been the single ray of sunshine in this whole debacle.
Thanks,
Dave

Can't locate com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
I'm having trouble with a 2007 macbook that keeps restarting from sleeping rather than waking up upon opening the lid and have read this can sometimes be fixed by deleting the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file but I can't find it in the system folder. Only a "power management bundle." I'm on Snow Leopard for reference. Can anyone help with this? I don't have the computer in front of me personally so I'm just trying to pass it along to who I'm trying to help.
Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/Preferences/ as the path. If it isn't there, delete the ~ and go to that folder.

My mac 10.8 does no have the file, com.apple.desktop. plist I wentto lIbrary, preference and look for it and it is not where in my mac. I also launch time machine and file is no where on my Mac. How do I get this file back?
thanksSystem files are hidden by default in Finder now, search for what you want then click the little + button on the top right of the bar that appears when you do a search. A new bar comes up and click the first box (that says "Kind"), change it to "System Files". Then change the box that says "aren't included" to "are included" and your file should show up.

I have tried re-inserting the com.apple.finder.plist into my Preferences folder and re-booting - this didn't work.
First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion. To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4. What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content. Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems. You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults. A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install. If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive. -
My Iphoto application was quitting unexpectedly, so I deleted its corresponding plist at Home>Library> Preferences>Plists> com.apple.iphoto.plist.
Upon opening Iphoto all my photos in Iphoto Library disappeared. What should I do next to retrieve
my photos? I have no backups. Need your help, support and advise. Thanks and look forward to resolving my enormous situation.
Dr Beeif all you did was delete the preference file it can not possibly affect your iPhoto library in any way - if you have movoed the location of your iPhoto library then you will have to repoint to it (the preference file does contain the pointer to the default library) by depressing the option key, launching iPhoto and using the select library command to select it

My iPad is not being recognised in iTunes. I have tried all the basic tests and then followed a series of uninstall instructions. One suggests deleting the following file however I cannot locate it - "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist-orig". Is there anything else I can do?

Location of com.apple.sidebar.plists ?
Does anyone know where I can find the file "com.apple.sidebar.plists?
It is apparently meant to be under preferences but I can't see it for the life of me. Looking to edit it.Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
If you plan to delete it, restart after deleting it. Mavericks caches .plists and a restart is required. -
How can i get my com.apple.Finder plist back
If I reinsatll Lion will it put com.apple.Finder plist back in the library
I just now noticed that if Disk Utility is open a disk shows up on the desktop and I can eject it normally. Disk Utility does not, however. show the disk and it sometimes really slow to show Super Drive too. When SuperDrive does show up and there is a disk inserted should I not be able to see in SuperDrive?
I have tried the terminal thing and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Hi
As i open the Console i have the follwing lines in the logs file.
Those commands lines are send every 10 seconds.
DATE HOUR,* sudo[*]: root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/ ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/bin/launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.InternetSharing.plist
DATE HEURE,* com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.ReSources.inshare) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
The man page for internetSharing give the following answer for interneSharing : "InternetSharing is the back-end for the Internet Sharing feature."
There is no internet sharing configured in my preference panel (share) // the only options set up are for admin purpose (remote connection - handling and session)
If you have any idea of where does this process comes from, i would really like to stop this process.
I although have this line in the logs file which i found every 20 seconds related to remoteDesktop.Agent
DATE HEURE,* com.apple.launchd.peruser.*[*]: (com.apple.RemoteDesktop.agent[*]) Exited: Killed: 9
Do you have any kind of idea about which process is responsible for this line ? Does it have something to do with the previous lines on internet sharing ?
Regards
Here is the configuation in the plist file for internetSharing if it's helps

Can't find com.apple.desktop.plist file in Preferences folder.
I have three desktop spaces, and I have them randomly changing backgroud from a selection of pictures in a folder. To quickly find out which picture was currently use for each desktop, I have a AppleScript that returns some infomation within the com.apple.desktop.plist file. This has been working perfectly fine in Mountain Lion.
However, after I installed the Mavericks (clean install from scratch), my script no longer works. The background images can be changed as before, but there's no com.apple.desktop.plist file exist anywhere in my hard drive.
Does anyone run into similar problems as me? It's driving me nuts! I can't think of any reason that there shouldn't be such a file... Thank you very much! The returned file name from your terminal command "sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db '.dump' | grep jpg" is the file name of my current desktop picture "Earth and Moon.jpg".
The returned file names from your script:

The return from your terminal command "find ~/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library.photolibrary/Masters -name filename.jpg" is

The return from your terminal command "

I do have a little app (Script) which did exactly what I needed under OS X Mountain Lion but because under Mavericks Apple changed the location of the wallpaper information to a SQLite database this app is not working anymore. I could send you this app if you want but I do not know how to do this via this forum.
Thanks again for your help. -
Deleting the com.apple.iTunes.plist?
Greetings.
iTunes will not recognize my iPod classic and freezes with My user ID (The iPod does show up in my finder). It does not happen with my wife as user; iPod is visible and connects to iTunes without difficulty.
I have been told to delete the com.apple.iTunes.plist under my user ID, then to restart the iMac. However, the problem remains. I have looked at the tech documents, uninstalled and re-installed iTunes, upgraded to iTunes 10...all without success. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get my user ID on the same page so iTunes will recognize the iPod?
Thanks. This is probably too little, too late but there is also an iTunes plist file(s) located at
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.iTunes.605A79F2-A0DD-423E-9C65-C9FB9E1F6B CC.plist
N.B. The "605A79F2-A0DD-423E-9C65-C9FB9E1F6BCC" is a UUID so each instance will be different.
Don't know if that will solve the problem but you never know. -
(This is cross-posted from the 10.5 Ins and Setup forum [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8902103#8902103], per the suggestion of a reader.)
In 10.5.4, I added /usr/sbin/syslogd to the exception list in /usr/libexec/ApplicationFirewall/com.apple.alf.plist.
This allowed me to keep the mediocre application firewall set to "allow only essential services" and still allow my router to send syslog messages to a log on my Mac.
I upgraded to 10.5.6 (straight from 10.5.4). Since the upgrade, it appears that the application firewall ignores the additional exception entry I added.
I've tried moving the exception entry up (replacing the one for configd), but it doesn't matter. I already know about /Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist, so you don't need to suggest that I delete it. It's re-created (as a binary) each time you unload/load the launchctl for syslogd, and it does appear to use the file in /usr/libexec/ApplicationFirewall/com.apple.alf.plist.
The only two ways I've found to allow syslogd through are:
1. disable the app firewall (choose "allow all incoming connections" (not my preferred solution)
2. choose "set access for specific services and applications", which unfortunately allows all the specified applications (and probably allows Apple's hidden list of exceptions that includes things like World of Warcraft and Skype). The hidden list opens the machine to a greater number of attacks from trojan software, and I'd rather have the system locked down, not opened up.
Does anyone know how I can recover the 10.5.4 functionality, which allowed me to add syslogd as an exception, instead of adding it to the GUI list of applications?I also want to receive log information from my Draytek Router I found a reference in the Draytek forum see:
http://www.forum.draytek.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=12009&highlight=syslog+mac
however when I updated the
com.apple.syslogd.plist
the required information did not get thru to the Draytek Syslog program.
I am also using 10.5.6 -
ICal refusing to open (com.apple.ical.plist file missing)
I have tried opening iCal and it refuses to open. The icon bounces on the dock, then asks if I want to report the issue to Apple. I have reported multiple times but I don't know how reporting it will help my iCal work again. (See below the dashed line for the error report.)
Since then, I have tried to replace iCal, but the software claims it cannot be installed on this machine.
I have tried to update my current iCal, but no updates are available.
I have browsed the forums and saw that some solutions were if HelveticaNeue was missing from my fonts. Got it.
And then I saw some threads about refreshing the com.apple.ical.plist... That's a problem. I don't have that file in my library at all. I can't seem to find any way to get it either. What can I do?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

com.apple.ical.plist... That's a problem. I don't have that file in my library at all. I can't seem to find any way to get it either.
It is created by iCal when it runs.

I am new to the Mac world, so please bear with me. I have freeze up issues with beachballs delux on my mid 2011 21.5 iMac with 2.5 GHz Intel Core I5 processor. When I run repairing permissions, it resolves the problem for a few days, but then returns back to the same problem. It says "Library/Preferences?Com.apple.alf.plist. Should be 80, group is 0
Can anyone tell me how to resolve this freeze up problems? I origiginally had Lion operating system and when I upgraded to Mountain Lion the issue was better, but did not totally cure this. The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Post any messages timestamped during that interval – the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting. -
Group differs on "Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist";
As the title suggests I got this issue which is annoying because it is causing high inactive memory & this obstacles all the rest . Means I must do 2-3 times a day repair permissions with Disk Utility .
Group differs on “Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist”;
It gets repaired & then all over again . So far I could not find a solution . I have already sent feedback to Apple .
That's all folks , if anyone knows how to handle this it would be nice , at least until there is an official response .
Thank you , have a nice day .bump
I actually have this all the time. com.apple.alf.plist is always repaired whenever Disk Utility repairs permissions.
I also came across somewhere that it was included in the solution for a problem about iTunes requesting permission to access internet everytime it is launched. And I had that issue as well. (iTunes asks for my permission for internet access everytime I launch it.) And the solution proposed for this included the deletion of this "com.apple.alf.plist" regarding a firewall issue. Although I deleted the file, Disk Utility still repairs this file (though iTunes haven't yet asked for internet permissions.) everytime I run the permission repair.
I suppose there has got to be a solution to keep the file stable, like without causing the repair.
Not a big issue, as mentioned in the thread title; but still, this may be the cause or result of something going on in the computer; so any suggestions are welcome.
Cheers!
