How to locate data files

I have a Mac mini and also an external Firewire HD. My plan was to keep them “identical” so I could use the HD as a recovery drive if the mini goes down.
Obviously it isn’t always easy to keep current on all of the software upgrades, but I have fairly much caught up. But I really don’t know where to collect the data files on the mini, so everything is current on the external HD, without having to re-enter everything. Where do I find the specific data for:
Several Dashboard items (e.g., Stickies), Mail settings, iCal, Address Book, QuicKeys settings, and probably others. If someone can direct me to the path(s) to find (any of) these things, then I should be able to locate any others I run into later.

SuperDuper! is fantastic! I downloaded the program, saved what I needed from the external to the mini, then erased/zeroed the external.
I decided to pay and Register and get the more robust version. I set it up to copy the mini over (took about 90 minutes for about 29 GB) and when completed it was trulu identical to the mini.
Only problem I had was that it didn't automatically boot from external, as I had set it (booted back from mini) but changing startup disk manually, in Preferences, it came up exactly the same.
I can't praise the program enough!

If it backed up the lock file, then Lightroom was open when Time Machine ran, and the backup therefore may be corrupted. You could try restoring that backup (without overwriting your week ago version) and see if it'll open. If it does, you're off and running. What methods have you tried?

Hi,
The Piecewise linear source (PWL) accepts data as voltage or current vs. time. You can find this part by selecting Place>>Component, go to the "Sources" group then select "Signal voltage sources". Place this part on the work area, double-click on it and there should be an option to open a .txt file.

How to consolidate data files using data pump when migrating 10g to 11g?

We have one 10.2.0.4 database to be migrated to a new box running 11.2.0.1. The 10g database has too many data files scattered within too many file systems. I'd like to consolidate the data files into one or two large chunk in one file systems. Both OSs are RHEL 5. How should I do that using Data Pump Export/Import? I knew there is "Remap" option could be used, but it's only one to one mapping. How can I map multiple old data files into one new data file?

datapump is terribly slow, make sure you have as much memory as possible allocated for Oracle but the bottleneck can be I/O throughput.
Use PARALLEL option, set also these ones:
* DISK_ASYNCH_IO=TRUE
* DB_BLOCK_CHECKING=FALSE
* DB_BLOCK_CHECKSUM=FALSE
set high enough to allow for maximum parallelism:
* PROCESSES
* SESSIONS
* PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS

For maximum throughput, do not set PARALLEL to much more than twice the number of CPUs (two workers for each CPU).

I am playing now with storage performance and I turned the option of disk cache (also called write-back cache) to ON (goes at least along with RAID0 and 5 and setting it you don't lose any data on that volume) - and it gave me 1,5 to 2 times speed-up!
Some says there's a risk of lose of more data when outage happens, but there's always such a risk even though you can lose less. Anyway if you can afford it (and with import it's OK, as it ss not a production at that moment) - I recommend to try. Takes 15 minutes, but you can gain 2,5 hours out of 10 of normal importing.

i downloaded a utility from App Store called Winmail Dat viewer but still i could not open the files

A .dat file isn't a file. It is caused by a misconfiguration of their server. They aren't sending you a .dat file. The server is converting the email to that format. That format is internal to the Exchange server. Even if they sent you the file in a different format, the server would still mangle the message.
Again, if you can't find a converter that can extract the attachment from the mangled message, you need to have them talk to their IT department and fix their server config.

In 10gR2, you can drop a datafile from tablespace, as long it's empty (and of course not the last one):
ALTER TABLESPACE tbs_03 DROP DATAFILE 'tbs_f04.dbf';
Otherwise, there's no direct way to get rid of the file. You can just shrink it and move (i.e. "rename") it another location. For a non-system tablespace, move of all segments to another tablespace (and later renaming it) would be an option, but this of course won't work with system tablespace.

How to read .dat files that are hidden?

Is it possible to read .dat files that are set to hidden? 'cause what i did was i created a .dat file and set its attributes to hidden and my Read file code cannot read hidden files.

There should not be any problems opening up hidden files. Your problem is probably elsewhere (for example, you didn't escape the backslash, so what you posted is not your code).

How to Locate Original Files in Aperture Once Version Deleted from Library

I have a very large aperture library (250GB). For a long time, I have maintained my library by deleting only the "versions" of photos that I do not like (File-Delete Version), not realizing that the originals were still there. I would like to also delete the originals (master), since they are large RAW files taking up a lot of space. But with the versions now gone from my library, I do not know how to locate the original files to delete. Is there any way for me to do this?
I feel like there should be a way to find out if there are any original files not associated with a corresponding version in the library, to allow you to recover accidently deleted files. That would be a start, but I can't find a way to do it. Thanks.

Also, I visited the Apple store recently and was told that deleting the version does not delete the master, and they even showed me on their computers where files deleted from the library were stored (they did this by "File-Open Library in iPhoto," highlighting all the images, and then "File-Reveal in Finder-Original File."
For a managed library: "Delete version" will only delete the selected version, if there is more than one version of the the same image. But if you only have one version left, delete version will delete the original file as well. An original is of no use, if you do not have a version to reference it. The " File-Delete Original Image and All Versions" option is there to be able to delete all versions at once, together with the original file.
For a referenced library you will be prompted, if you want to delete the referenced original, if you are deleting the last version.
Just try it for a managed library. Import an image and use "Delete version" for the last version. The version will be moved to Aperture's Trash. And if you empty the trash, you will find the original version in the Trash in your Dock. And it cannot be put back from the Trash.
You will be prompted, if you really want to delete the file, when you empty Aperture's Trash.
The App Store genius must have shown you a referenced library, when the original was not removed after deleting the version, or they did not delete the last version, if it was a managed library.

Loading .DAT file from AL11 is nothing but loading from Application server, You need to keep the follwing settings while loading the file:
In the Infopackage under extraction TAB:
Adapter :Load Text Type file from Application Server.
Header rows to be ignored : Blank (Nill)
data format :Seperated with Seperator (CSV)
Data Seprator : ,
Escape Sign : "
Give the path of the application server where you are keeping the file

How to read .dat file and display on a chart.

Hello, I am very new to labeled and am looking for some guidance on how to display data from a file onto a chart. I have registered the appropriate data plug in (Yokogawa_DAT) however when I try to use the file viewer VI it is still not recognized by LabVIEW. I have included a sample of the data which includes 2 channels plus time stamping and color information etc. The data is produced by a Yokogawa VR100 recorder that is no longer supported, and therefore the native viewing software is impossible to get. Unfortunately my time is limited and learning all the ins and outs of LabVIEW is going to take a good deal of it, I am hoping someone will be able to point me in the right direction to learn the basics of what I am after without having to learn LabVIEW in its entirety. How to locate .exe file in pc harddisk programatically using labview same as search option in Windows.

I want locate a file which is a third party exe file.
For this purpose i should know programatically how many drives are present on the PC Hard Disk.
I made a VI to fetch the information about how many drives or partitions are present on the harddisk.
I am able to find that information and are able to locate each & every folder available on each drive.
But i am not able to that function in LabvIEW which can solve my problem and search for that .exe file for its existance on the PC disk.
THe idea is same as the search files and folders option in windows.
Can anybody help me in this problem.

Use the "recursive file list.vi" under the "file io->Advanced file options" pallete.
wire "*.exe" to locate all the vailable exe to the "pattern" control of this vi
