How to locate photos using keywords in sub-categories?

Is there a way to locate your photos according to the sub-categories in keywords, such as under "animals" I have "wild" and "domestic"? When I search for them with the inspector, I only can access the main category.

How are you searching for keywords? I mean, when you say you search for them with the inspector, are you referring to, under the "Library" tab in the left pane, the search field right at the top of that list, or the search field at the top of your "Keywords" HUD?
When I try to search keywords using the keyword HUD, it hangs for several minutes between each keystroke until I finally give up. (I have a lot of keywords - I used Keyword Manager in iPhoto, and the conversion to Aperture didn't preserve the hierarchy, only the list.)

  • How to sync Photo using iTunes

    Hi All,
I would like to know is there any way/method to enable the "Selected folders" option in iTunes under Photos section?
I was trying to sync come wallpaper that into my phone, but after syncing, i will get another folder call "Photo Library".
Q: How can i remove "Photo Library" on the iPhone? and How to selected photos using iTunes and upon syncing i don't want to see"Photo Library" folder in my iPhone?
Please share the knowlege whoever facing similiar issue.
    Thanks.

  • How to locate and use files in Bridge

A great deal of my photos were imported into my iMac using iPhoto and they seem to reside in the iPhoto database/library.  When I try to browse them in Bridge CS4 the iPhoto directory appears but when I click on it iPhoto opens and that's the only way to see the files, though I AM able to open them in PS CS4!  How can this be corrected?

Easiest way is to go to user / pictures and select iPhoto library. Use right
mouse click and from the drop down menu choose show package content. In this
window go to the folder originals and copy the folder(s) that show here
(usual folders with years showing) to a new folder on your HD.
If you choose copy you will double the size of the existing originals on
your HD but then you are still able to use iPhoto for editing etc. If you
have no longer need for that you can choose move without copy to save disk
    space if needed.
Point Bridge to the new folder and use the menu tools / cache build and
export cache. This will cache your folder including all the subfolders.
Let it do its job and then you can work with the files as normal with
reorder by moving them to other folders or rate or what ever you want.
When I try to browse them in Bridge CS4 the iPhoto directory appears but when
I click on it iPhoto opens and that's the only way to see the files, though I
AM able to open them in PS CS4!  How can this be corrected?

  • How to locate photos in finder through the Photos for Mac app?

Hi, is there an option to locate where the photos are saved in finder through the Photos app. This feature was available in iPhoto but I am unable to locate it in Photos.

I am also curious about this. What's the point of using a photo management app that will not produce changes in the finder? People are already complaining that they've had problems with the upgrade from iPhoto to Photos. If Photos becomes obsolete again, I want to make sure that I have all my pictures properly organized in folders. Is there any way to make this happen in Photos?

  • How to find photos missing Keywords

I need to filter out the photo's that may have not been keyworded. Does anyone know how to do this. We need to confirm that our 30,000 picture all have keywords applied to them. I'm not sure how to run a search on folders that don't have something applied to them.

Cmd/Ctl select all the keywords in the Keyword Tags Panel on the Left of Library. Do Select-all (Cmd/Ctl-A) in the grid. Then select All Photograph and do Invert Selection (a Menu option). Put in a Collectio, flag, rate or label. Go from there.

Wow, your earlier post went quick!
No, no one missed the calendar tool like you do.
    Why?
Because they use the Calendar tool.
Click on the magnifying glass in the search window (note the little up/down arrows beside it) and select the calendar tool...
    Try it, you'll like it.

  • How to transfer photos using target disk.

I am transferring my photos from my Mac Book Pro to an external harddrive using Target Disk. However when I open Iphoto from the external hard drive, it will only show the Iphoto lybrary from whichever computer I mount the Mac Book Pro on.
When I search "IMG" or "JPG" I can see some of the photos that were in my Iphoto lybrary however they are only thumbnails.
    My question is:
If i=I drag the Iphoto icon over to the external harddrive. After I wipe out my Mac Book Pro and re download all of the information that I put on the external harddrive,
Will my photos appear only as thumbnails, or will it be regular size in Iphoto?
Will they be organized the same way as they originally were in my Iphoto?

Frist you have to tap and hold the image in the email to see the "Save" option. Selecting this will save the image to Camera Roll in Photos. Once in Camera Roll you can upload the image through the Drop Box app either automatically or manually, however you have this option setup.

  • How to view/browse photos by keyword?

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and Lightroom. I am testing Lightroom 4 to see if it fits my needs.
What I can't seem to figure out is how to browse photos by keyword without creating a smart collection for every keyword. Can anyone enlighten me if this is possible?
I have used Bibble for a few years now and this is something I used alot.
    Regards

Over on the right, in the Keyword List panel, point at a keyword and you will see an arrow on the right edge of the panel, to the right of the number of photos. Click on that arrow.
Alternatively, in the Filter Bar, select keyword as a search criterion, then click on the desired keyword (optionally ctrl-click on multiple keywords)

  • How do I automatically sync iPhone camera photos using iTunes?

Hey, gang!  I'm confused about the "Sync Photos from iPhoto" option in iTunes.  I clearly do not want to transfer *all* photos (years of accumulated digicam pictures), yet when I choose "Selected albums", iTunes gives me the following warning:
"This iPhone contains photos synced with another photo library or folder. Photos and albums on “Name of iPhone” will be replaced with photos and albums from this computer. Photos taken with “Name of iPhone” will not be affected.
Well, this is bizarre--what other library or folder could my phone have been synched with?  Plus, no matter what I was using, I certainly don't want to lose those photos on the iPhone!
Of course, what I really want to know is:
"How do I use iTunes to automatically transfer the photos I've taken with the iPhone to my MacBook Pro?"
P.S.  I know how to transfer photos using iPhoto, but that's laborious and I really want to transfer/back up my photos as part of my iTunes ritual.

Plus, it clearly indicates that there are photos on my iPhone that could well be deleted as a result of synching!
The only photos on your iPhone that could be deleted when syncing with iTunes are photos that were transferred from your computer to your iPhone, which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. These photos should remain on your computer so will not be lost.
Do I really have to go through 800+ photos in my Camera Roll and laboriously determine if they have matches in my iPhoto library?
Photos in the Camera Roll are not included or touched during the iTunes sync process.
Photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process are stored in the Photo Library.
The other odd thing is that there is a third album on my iPhone.  It contains the very same photos as in Photo Library, but is called something else and the photos are in a different order.  I am unable to delete it the way one can with a regular photo album that one has added.  What's up with that?
When transferring a photo album or folder or multiple abums/folders from your computer, all photos transferred from your computer are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library. The photos in the album or albums below that were transferred from your computer include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library. This way you can view the photos in an album only be selecting the album, or all photos in all albums transferred from your computer by selecting Photo Library. The same occurs when transferring only one album or folder or multiple albums or folders from your computer.
Photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process can't be deleted direct from your iPhone. Photos transferred from your computer are deleted from the iPhone the same way - via the iTunes sync process.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera, which is not handled by iTunes. When there are photos/videos in the Camera Roll, the iPhone is also detected as a digital camera when connected to a computer.

  • How to import photos from iphone

I can not import my photos from my iphone6 to my Macbook pro. I have plugged it in and clicked import and nothing happens. It's very frustrating. I've tried unplugging and re-plugging the phone. I've tried restarting the computer but it will not let me saying "photos are being imported". Though at this point my phone is no longer plugged in.

    Hey Adysnow,
Thanks for the question. What application are you using to import the photos on your Mac? iPhoto? Image Capture? Whichever you are using, let’s try to isolate the issue by using the other:

  • How can I search sub categories in iBooks?

Okay, after generally loving apple products, this one has me raging mad. When I search iBooks, there is a drop down list of categories and authors.
But sub categories -- as found in any normal bookstore -- are nowhere to be found.
For example, searching "Ferrari" will drop down a variety of books, two of which are in the Transportation category.  But, Transportation is not listed in any of the categories in the basic iBooks menu.
Words such as "history", "science and technology" cover a LOT of ground, and there MUST be better navigation to zero in on topics of interest.
So, how can I find a list of sub-categories so I can spend my iTunes wealth?

Sadly I don't think you can. I have a number of books published in the Games and Card Games category (as identified by BISAC code) but Apple don't have a Games category either. However in the iTunes Store (not iBooks) if I search for 'Games' and then select the 'Books' Media Type filter I can find the books in the results. Perhaps the same ill happen if you try with 'transportation'. Now that books are searchable directly from the iTunes store I find it much easier to search there rather than on my iPad.

  • How do I filter photos using the keyword hierarchy?

Since Aperture 3.1 came out, I've been taking another look at it and considering switching back from Lightroom. One baby step was to set up a proper keyword hierarchy with Aperture. Trying to use that for sorting photos, I started feeling incredibly frustrated and felt like I must be missing something screamingly obvious.
Here's my issue. Using the keyword HUD, I can set up a nested, hierarchical keyword list. The HUD helpfully displays a running tally of all photos that keyword is applied to. "Great!" I thought, I've got 46 photos of John Smith, let's take a look at them. So I click on the number. Apparently, while Aperture is happy to show you the number of photos with the keyword, it's not willing to take you to those photos (i.e., create a library filter and show the results) via the Keyword HUD.
Bringing up the filter HUD seems unhelpful for the opposite reason. While you can search via the keywords there, it doesn't show the keyword hierarchy! Am I missing something? Say I've got keywords for two people, Adam and Zoe, filed under People/Friends/. Using the keyword box in the filter HUD will list one at the beginning and the other at the end of my entire list of keywords. Worse, the filter HUD only seems helpful for keywords if you know which ones you're looking for, which defeats the point of using a hierarchy. If, say, I know there's 3 or 4 people I'm looking for under a particular category, but I can't remember their name of the top of my head, how do I go about finding them using the filter HUD? All I have is the long, uncategorized master list of keywords.
Again, I feel I must be missing something obvious. Thanks for your help.
    Cheers.

I agree, clicking on a keyword in the HUD that has a number after it to get those photos seems like a no brainer. Even though I know it doesn't do that I still find myself clicking on it before I catch myself. Need to send feedback to Apple on this, clicking on a keyword should create a filter to and display those images.
In your example the images of Adam and Zoe should be tagged with the keywords that apply to them. That is they would have the keywords people, friends, male or female, Adam or Zoe, and whatever other keywords you use to describe these images. Then you check as many keywords in the filter that apply and you can remember.
While the keyword HUD shows the keywords in a hierarchy, keywords applied to an image are one dimensional, linear. Its just a string of words without structure. The hierarchy is just there to make it easier to conceptualize the structure.

  • How do I manage photos using a folder - subfolder type structure?

How do I manage photos using a folder - subfolder type structure as I have done previously within Windows? For example, my photos were stored with a folder for each year and sub-folders for each month whicheach  held the photos. Can I do this in iPhoto?

For example, my photos were stored with a folder for each year and sub-folders for each month whicheach  held the photos
    Why bother?
Check out the search box at the bottom of the Window. (Click on the Magnifying glass, it opens it) Now click on the mgnifying glass in the search box) and select 'Date'. Now you can find all the photos from any day, month or year. If you want to find the photos from a range - say a paticular week - then you can do that with a Smart Album.
Organising photos by date means you have to remember the date the shot was taken, and after a while, and after a few thousand shots, this gets harder and harder to do, so you spend more and more time rooting through folders.
iPhoto offers a range of organising tools and each offers more possibilites to quickly find the shot you're looking for. For instance:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 45k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • How to Locate and Extract Photos

I have several old hard drives. Many of which include many images that are located in many subfolders. If I were to scan the hard drive lightroom does a great job of identifying images. But how to I move all those images to one consolidated locating eg /images.
    Thank you!

Import the images from all the drives into Lightroom. Then in Lightroom, drag images where you want.
That said, keep the folder structure simple and don't try to use folders to categorise your photos. Use keywords instead.
