How to lock a folder using admin password??

hello,
i want to lock a folder with admin user name and password, and, i dont want to use Utilities->Disk Utility then Select File->New...->Blank Disk Image.
Can we lock a folder without creating an image???
plz help!!!
i have mountain lion, 27inch imac!!

You can't. The OS doesn't support password protecting files and folders. The encrypted disk image route is superior to what you want to do. Why don't you?

  • How to lock a folder with password ?

Please tell me how to lock a folder with password (to keep personal files)

Keep looking it can be done. I have a folder on my hard drive that requires a password everytime I try to open it. I found how to do this in an old "Mac OS - The missing manual" but don't remember off the top of my head how I did it. I remember you have to partition a portion of the hard drive, I think I did like 10 Gig of my 1 Teribite external drive and then you give it a name and make up a password. The password is NOT changeable and if you lose it you can't get back in that folder. It appears as a standard folder but needs a password to open it.
Email me direct if you can't find any info and I will try to look it up - [email protected]

  • How I can recover my user admin password of my computer?

How I can recover my user admin password of my computer?
I have an I mac 27 Inch 2009 3.06 GHz Intel core 2 Duo. I cant remember my user admin password to enter my computer to make changes, how can I recover it? I have being entering as a guest user.

You can't recover the password, but you can reset it.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password. In OS X 10.10 and later, this option also works with FileVault, but only if you enabled it when you activated FileVault. It's not retroactive. Otherwise, see below.
Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities window appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar at the top of the screen—not from any of the items in the OS X Utilities window.
In the window that opens, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected. You won't be able to do this if FileVault is active.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but the Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as the login password), there's no way to recover it.

  • How To: Lock a folder to prevent it being deleted but still access it?

How can I lock a folder to prevent it from being moved or trashed but still have access to move/add folders within that folder?
The scenario is that we have a daily jobs folder and a final jobs folder. The daily jobs folder was accidently moved into an active job folder. I want these folders locked down so this cannot happen but when I use the lock feature nothing can be moved in or out of that folder.
Under OS9 the locked box specifically said "cannot move, rename or delete this item" yet you could add or delete items to that folder all day long.
If I try this with OSX I need to authenticate each bloody time! I just want to lock a folder down and have it accessable by anyone, anywhere, anytime without the need to type a password 80 times a day. HELP ME PLEEZE
      Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Read only access will prevent the addition or removal of items in the folder you set the permissions on; the folders below that one have different access settings, which can be less restrictive than those for the folder you set it on.
For example, if folder A contains B and C, and B allows Read & Write access but A allows Read Only access, items can be added and removed from B, but B itself cannot be moved out of A, and other items cannot be moved in to or out of A. If a folder your account has Read access to is inside a folder which your account doesn't, you can use the Finder's Go to Folder command in the Go menu to navigate to it if its path is known.

  • *** How to install an app without admin password?

I'm trying to install Final Cut Studio 2 and the system keeps asking for my admin password. I don't know it b/c I'm borrowing this computer from my dad. Is there a way to install an app without having to type in the admin password or is that step always required?
    Thanks in advance!

If your login window is showing the list of users, you can find the "short name" for each such user by hovering the cursor over that user.
If that doesn't give you what you need, boot again directly from the install DVD and use it to enable and set a password for the System Administrator (root) account -- follow the prompts. Be sure the password you set is not blank. This is the super user that's built into the system independent of your dad's normal "administrator" account. Now reboot again from your hard drive. In the login window, select the "other" option that will now appear. Then login as "root" and with the password you just assigned.
At this point you can use System Preferences / Accounts to adjust the passwords and administrator access privileges of your normal accounts on the machine.
Once you have done that, log out as "root" and log back in as a normal administrator account. Now go to Applications / Utilities / Directory Utility and disable the "root" user account once again for safety.

  • How to create a folder using plsql

    hi all
i want create a folder using plsql procedures .

I am not sure weather you can create a folder on database server file system using pl/sql code but you certainly can create/read/write file system files using UTL_FILE package.
'The Oracle supplied package UTL_FILE can be used to read and write files that are located on the server. It cannot be used to access files locally, that is on the computer where the client is running.'

    Handling Remote Connections Under UAC
Whether you are connecting to a remote computer in a domain or in a workgroup determines whether UAC filtering occurs.
If your computer is part of a domain, connect to the target computer using a domain account that is in the local Administrators group of the remote computer. Then UAC access token filtering will not affect the domain accounts in the local Administrators
group. Do not use a local, nondomain account on the remote computer, even if the account is in the Administrators group.
In a workgroup, the account connecting to the remote computer is a local user on that computer. Even if the account is in the Administrators group, UAC filtering means that a script runs as a standard user. A best practice is to create a dedicated local
user group or user account on the target computer specifically for remote connections.

  • How do i lock one folder with a password? just one folder individually.

    thanks

The Finder does not let you revoke both read and write permission from yourself, but you can revoke read permission from the GUI. Otherwise you have to use Terminal.
    Get Info on your folder
Under sharing and permissions change privilege to "No Access" for Group & Everyone (probably labeled "Staff" & "Everyone"). Change the permission to Write Only for "Me".
Click the lock to prevent changes.
Now nobody can view the contents of that folder without your account password.
To open the folder get info again, click the lock in the lower right corner, enter your password then change the "Me" permission to Read & Write.

  • How can I recover a lost Admin password?

My 97-year old mother-in-law received a Mac PowerBook G4 as a gift, running Mac OS X (10.4.11). She uses it mainly to send and receive email. I wanted to install a printer driver so she can print. Could not install the driver because password for Administrator was required. We don't know the password. HELP says we can reset the password using the install disk, but we don't have the disk. I have also downloaded software to give her access to a new wireless home network, but I need the password to install that as well.

You need to do this from an admin account which the user may not have.
    Change Password
    Mac OS X:
You do not have a CD/DVD
Changing password from single user mode:
You can also change the administrator's password from single user mode or create a new administrator account.
You need to get into single use mode for steps one and two that are listed below.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
Basically, you hold down the command-s key then powering on your machine. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think.
    1) You can change the password on an account. ( Do you know Unix. You are in a Unix single user console. ) The setup commands you need should be listed on the screen. For Mac OS 10.4.11, the commands are:
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    # Start up some utility processes that are needed.
    sh /etc/rc
    # You will probably need to press the return key once the system stops typing.
    # To find out the users on the system type, use the list command. The l is a lower case L:
    ls /Users
    # One of these accounts will be the administrator.
    # Pick one of the users which I'll call a-user-name and type it in this command:
    passwd a-user-name
    # and enter the new user password. You need six characters.
    # You will need to enter your password twice. Your typing will not show up on the screen just
    # press enter when you complete the typing.
    # For cryptic information on these commands try:
    man ls
    man passwd
The root account isn't enabled by default. I am not sure if changing the password on root will enable it.
